@@YousefTubebelieve it or not I remember there was a time where you could actually call a play about a job that was listed in the paper and ask them questions about it so you could even decide for yourself if you even want it to work there before you went through all the trouble of sending a resume or anything and once you did send a resume or put in an application you could actually call them or stop in in person and ask them if they looked at your resume or application yet and you could try to set up an interview I mean it used to be so much more civilized and then once they started with people applying for jobs online it just got crazier and crazier and crazier .
At first it wasn't so bad but once everything started to become more automated where they would use a program to scan and read the resumes is when it got really out of hand .

You don't need college degrees to make good money. If you like to work with your hands and like machines, go be a technician. The only time a degree really helps is if you are entry-level with literally zero experience. But even then, you are better off working on personal/open source projects, as opposed to just having a degree.

Sorry, bud that's a skill issue. People who have a degree take jobs for granted. I have no degree or rather I could not finish it for financial reasons. No longer in a position to continue studying without earning money. What degree does is certifies you of something to be capable of doing, But is that the only way?
No. You make projects solve problems in the industry contribute to open source. And whats possible now which wasn't before are "certifications" not "certificates" there is a difference you are gonna have to google if you dont know. I'm going to Data Science Im going to go for AWS Database/Machine Learning/Data Analytics And IBM Data Science Professional Certifications and Google Data Engineer/Machine Learning certifications and Azure Certifications and so many more that more than qualifies you for 2+ years. What are they gonna say
"even though you have experience working on projects and solving problems and these exams that you cleared certifies you from different cloud systems which generally recommended for professionals with atleast 2-3 years of experience working with their respective systems, we are gonna have to pass up on you "just" because you dont have a degree"? When people as incompetent as you are sitting around with degrees does it really matter?
What you said about it not being a norm is absolutely correct! But why would you want to be a NORM? I swear degree holders are legit people with pacifers in their mouth, legit scared of doing anything out of the ordinary.

@@helechoale1979 im not too familiar with BCA. If you live in america and want a degree i would recommend whats called alternative learning collage they work similarly to vocational school in places like Germany. There are many schools and courses to choose from. And there degrees are recognized by all employers. What these schools do is teach you what you NEED to know to be prepared for the job. Where as traditional colleges try to pour as much information into you as possible so you fail and have to stay for another year and pay them more money. Depending on your knowledge that you already have and what course you take, you could probably get a bachelors degree in eight months, but it can take as much as five years although that's pretty rare and only in very specific courses like level two or three engineering most courses will take two years with minimal knowledge. Just because it happened to me, it happens to everybody is what I hear from this. Survivorship bias is a thing. If you look at statistics, most places still hire people with degrees and it makes a lot of difference for senior level positions, promotions, raises etc.
Great it worked for her but that’s a dangerous message to send to someone who can completely waste their prime years where they could have studied and got a degree but they didn’t and live to regret it later in life. If you are working in tech, a degree in any tech or stem field will probably help you in some way.
That being said, with how absurd the tuition fees are, I can understand the dilemma many people face when it comes to getting a college degree. I would recommend applying for scholarships and look for work study programs to help you instead of relying too much on predatory student loans. Good luck.

The paradox is that you don’t really need a degree to perform in an entry or mid-level role in tech. What matters more than anything is experience.
Getting your foot in the door is easier with a degree, I’m not going to deny it. But it is definitely possible for anyone without a degree to do so. I have done it. It just takes persistence, a good resume, and communication skills. If you knock on enough doors, people will grant you interviews.
With that being said, if you want to get a degree, it is best to first get a job in the field, then work towards a degree online while you are working in said field. That way, once you have completed your degree, you have at least 5 years of real work experience on top of it. As an added bonus, you will take on less student loan debt, or none at all, in order to get your degree.

For most positions, the education requirements companies post are what they consider to be the ideal candidate. There are a few exceptions of course, such as healthcare and teaching. If you do not meet all of a company's requirements, it never hurts to apply anyway. I was always told to ignore those requirements.

If you genuinely want to strengthen your odds of landing a job, you should get a degree. You will get multiple job offers and be able to negotiate your salary. Also, you will get to a point in your career where you can only advance with a degree. She may have gotten lucky this time, but even with the experience, there will be a point where she hits a roadblock because the company she wants to work for will seriously require a degree and actually enforce the requirement.

    • @shawnmercado2219
      @shawnmercado2219 5 місяців тому

@@melissagreye8445 It's a complex question, but one of the main arguments for having a higher barrier to entry in the form of degree or certificate requirements, is that, while not perfect, at least they are objective standards. In general, companies don't have a good way to gauge how well a person will perform on the job. Interviews are pretty famously bad at this, no matter how long and arduous you make the process.
As such, employers will tend to operate based mostly on feeling and impression. The whole process becomes more about things like:
      - ability to network
      - ability to *sell yourself*
      - general likeability and personality
In other words, they're basing hiring decisions mostly on things that don't have much to do with how well the candidate will perform on the job.
In the worst case, this opens up the market to "crackers" (e.g., "how to crack the coding interview", not the racial epithet) and straight up fraudsters. Even in the best case, basing hiring decisions on factors like networking is, by definition, cronyism. But the thing is it's necessary in a system without objective standards because there are so few ways to add any confidence or verification to a candidate's claimed acumen other than referral.
