I was experimenting with patches on the mother 32 and decided I wanted it to play along to the Subharmonicon by itself. I'm quite pleased with the results, and find that the mother 32 adds an extra layer of interest in terms of generative ambient music. Definitely room for improvement but I'm sure I can iron things out eventually.
Processing: a blend of Valhalla Room, Shimmer, Supermassive, stereo delay (Logic), hall reverb (Logic), saturation
Recorded and mixed in Logic Pro X

I really enjoyed creating this self-generating patch! Let me know if you'd like to see more stuff like this.
Please!
Heck yes. This is lovely and I really enjoy seeing what people do with generative patches. Cheers!
Oh god yeah!
Definitely! Amazing stuff for sure. This is a wonderful pair of instruments, and I would like to see them interact more. Much respect.
of course. yes indeedy.
Just stumbled upon this channel and my lord is your work amazing. I could sleep and just listen to this throughout the day and feel somehow rejuvenated. 💖
Thanks so much! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos :)
Beautiful man. And thanks for explaining everything in the description
Cheers, glad you liked it! And you're welcome!
Vraiment intéressant! Pure dope!
awesome. thank *YOU* the camera work is just as great. =)
I enjoyed each second 🙌🏻
This is seriously gorgeous and was a joy to listen to. I'd love to see and hear more stuff like this. I don't understand the patching yet but appreciate you being so transparent about it. Saving this video for when I'm a bit further in. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words. I will definitely be making more stuff like this in the future.
This is class, really lovely. Subtle, interesting, and polished. Too many people over-use reverb and shimmer, but you've got it just about perfect here. LOVELY!
Thank you! I put as much thought, if not more, into post production as I do the patch /performance. I appreciate the kind words!
Sounds great.
Fantastic
🖤🙌🏽
Looking to pick up these, but wasn't sure how well they worked together since I feel like you always only see one or the other and a DFAM. Your videos cleared that up REAL quick. Really incredible stuff, thanks for sharing!
Hey, Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Beautifull 😍
I I had to guess how many subs you had judging by the sheer quality of your videos I would have to say you have at least 1 million!
You are far too kind!
More like this.. please..
Some of the most musical examples with Moog’s modular that I’ve come across.
I appreciate it! Definitely more to come. Thanks for listening!
Nice, like it a lot
Thanks for listening :)
pure love
Thanks for listening :)
very nice!
Thanks for listening, Audhentik!
damn this is great!
Cheers! Thanks for listening!
This is why I love synth.
me too :)
As Tony would say, Greeeeeeeaaat stuff! 👍🏻
Thank you!
Really impressive. Your vids made me go get a mother-32 and to dream about assembling the holy trinity one day. I cant see any cables between the units. Are they not synced or connected at all?
Thanks Markus! You're correct, they aren't synced for this particular video.
great stuff, thanks for sharing. how exactly did you set it up to make it random and selfgenerating? thanks
Thank you. I use the random voltage assign output quite a lot in my performances. In this case I have it going into the mult to control multiple parameters, one of them being the tempo. The sequencer is then randomized as well to add to the effect. I have detailed patch notes with pictures on my patreon page. Cheers!
how are you finding the subharmonicon fits into your process for production ? just got my mother 32, and hav ebeen thinking of grabbing this as well.
Hey, it certainly changes the way I make music. With the SubH you kind of have to building everything around it. It's not really something you can bring into a jam that's already started just because it's so unpredictable. That being said, happy accidents often often. I see it more of a stand alone experimental synth that's fun to build off of.
It’s a gorgeous piece of music, really. One question though: do you feed your signal through a laptop or desktop because I noticed in the liner notes that you are using software effect plugins. Is there a reason why you don’t use a standalone hardware effects unit? Keep creating those beautiful melodies!
Thanks for listening! I don't own any hardware effects. I was producing music entirely in the box (Logic Pro) for years before I got my first hardware synth. I've accumulated a lot of vst's and effects over the years so everything I record goes into Logic. I'd love to get a hardware delay or reverb at some point, or even some more stand alone modules such as mutable instruments.
SyllixMusic You do wizardry with the Mother 32. Thanks to your video’s I’m seriously considering taking the step to (semi-)modular synthesis. Though it’s clear to me you have to dip the Mother’s sounds in a nice reverb.
I like the smooth sounds and peaceful visuals. I saw the info about audio, but for video what lens+camera do you use? Do you postprocess it in any way?
Thanks Ruben, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I use a Sony a6000 with a 7Artisans F1.2 lens. In terms of post processing the video I don't do much, just touch up the brightness and saturation a bit. Cheers!
@@SyllixMusic Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful generative sounds. Can I ask, are they both standalone, as in not connected with any cables?
Thank you. That's correct, the synths are not connected to each other.
I don't know what is going on! hahhahahaha ? You ran some loop on one thing and it fed into another? Or you played actual notes or how are those high notes coming out? I don't even know what a Mother 32 is.
Haha! It's two different modular synths doing two different things. One creates the pad sounds which have a very slow polyrhythm, the other one (mother 32) plays the high notes that come in randomly. It does this through the patching of cables. In its own, it's just a regular synth. Can make different kinds of sounds, etc. But when you patch different things together with cables, you can control many different things allowing it to behave pretty much however you want, and create unique sounds, rhythms and patterns. Modular synthesis has quite a steep learning curve. I'm still very new to it, but it's a lot of fun!
@@SyllixMusic ok, I did look up some vid of a guy demoing the mother 32 and I saw some of it but stopped b4 he got to the step seq part. I guess that's the part where the high notes randomly happen. Pretty cool. I mean, it's neat to keep a boundary of sorts and let the thing play inside that boundary. Almost like someone else doing music but it's just how you rigged it. thx!!!
An excellent description👍.
@@SyllixMusic beautiful concept - can you explain what panel patches you set up on the Subharmonicon and the Mother-32 please ?
@@markdoran3114 Thank you. There's some subtle modulation going on with the subharmonicon, mainly the sequencers are affecting the rhythm. For the mother 32 there's a lot more going on - random voltage feeds into Mix 2. The output of VC Mix is multiplied going into both cutoff and LFO rate, and in turn the lfo modulates the tempo providing the randomness of the sequence on the mother 32. I have detailed patch notes for all of my videos available through my Patreon if you're interested. Thanks for listening!
Hello. Is there connections between them ? How they are in the same beat ?
Hey, they are not connected and are not on sync. Each synth is recorded separately into my DAW. I made sure to sequence the notes on the mother 32 in a similar key though!
Музыка красивая, холодная. Что же там, что же там снаружи....
