I never realized that flatbeds had all these anchor points for changing the direction of pull. Quite satisfying watching you use this technique to gently coax that vehicle out of the unit.
You can customize the bed when they build the truck so whatever you want. Ours was maxed out with wires with flat sides and next with an extra 2 feet added to the bed. We had chain crosses Add it to the center as well same as the side since we hauled a lot of equipment. The only thing I wish we had was the remote. I specked out our truck But we did have the bash bar attached to the bed rather than the truck. It was a 4400 chassis.
Those anchor points are there for tie-down locations, strictly speaking redirecting your winch line and using a flat decks winch line for recoveries is frowed upon due to the equipment not being designed to work that way. You can do it, but it does not mean you should. He states I the video that the winch is only for unloading and loading recovery, I was trained that recoveries with a deck truck are not allowed due to the equipment not being designed for recovery work.
There is a lot of speculation about why this vehicle ended up in a storage locker and that there may have been criminal activity involved. Please allow me to clarify.....we are required by law to have the police department run a VIN check on any tow such as this to determine if the vehicle is reported stolen or has been involved in any KNOWN criminal activity. When this vehicle was ran through the police database, it can back CLEAR. I do not know why it was in the storage locker. That being said, it is possible that some of these vehicles may have been involved in UNKNOWN criminal activity. However, it would be pure speculation. I have a job to do and there are legal steps that I MUST follow so that I am not in possession of a "questionable" vehicle. Also......as I always say, there are many ways to perform a job. As long as a job is performed safely, then who is to criticize? However, I have received a LOT of criticism over how I performed this job. I KNOW that there are other methods that may have been faster. I KNOW there are products available that may have made this task easier. I KNOW that I am not perfect. I used what I had available and the task was performed without damage or injury. I accept constructive criticism, because I KNOW that I do not know everything. I learn every day. I hope to continue learning for many more years. Anyone who claims to KNOW everything might want to reconsider. I do NOT like it when people are rude with their comments and, unfortunately, this video has stirred a LOT of rude comments. Please be polite and professional......none of us are perfect.....I certainly know that I am not. As the scripture says "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"......Can those making the critical comments honestly state that they have never performed a task that they couldn't have done better or learned from??? Thanks for watching and God bless.
I thought it might have been a salvage vehicle someone bought to fix up and just stored it.
Go buy you couple wheel dollys that sure help u out Alot
Mr Pratt, I don't think that your regular viewers would question your morals and ethics!
I’ll bet there is a finance company looking for hat vehicle that would be happy to pay your tow and storage fees to get it back.
When you think about it ANY vehicle you deal with could be part of some criminal activity. :D
Just play by the rules and do your job, you do it very well.
These videos make my anxiety go wild, but then it’s like a natural high seeing the finished “project” as we shall say. It’s amazing.
heres a word of advice
"if *YOU* can get it in there *HE* can get it out"
thatjokerperson Good one lol!
Ya but still its tricky and he did a clean job
@Mike L there are still methods to get vehicles out of deep water. Look it up on youtube, there are plenty of videos
You should see where I pluck cars out of as a reposessor.
Front end damage, hidden in a storage unit, "forgotten", what are the odds this vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run?
Brent Boswell that’s what I was thinking
I think those odds are very high indeed.
probably was
hit and run by meth head who forgot where they parked.
The front bumper cover had been inexpertly riveted-on or screwed-on though, visible at 23:40. If the vehicle was in a hit-and-run, someone took the time afterward to reattach the front bumper cover with tools instead of simply removing it or leaving it as-is. There's enough rust on the rumpled parts that I would be surprised if it went into the storage unit right after the damage was caused too.
This has the vibe to me of someone having received a grandparent's car for free after the grandparent stopped driving after a moderate wreck, tried to fix the the car without knowledge/ability/funds, and then put it into storage hoping to get back to it later, but couldn't afford the storage unit rent and just left it.
After reading your thoughts and a few of the comments by others, I thoroughly enjoyed watching you extract the vehicle from a rather unique position inside the storage unit, your narrative during the procedure along with the written tutorial made it all the more clear as to what you were trying to accomplish, first-safely, second-no damage to the storage unit itself, and third-no further damage to the vehicle.
I don’t recall ever using the small pulley and chain in the anchor points the way you do in a lot of scenarios like this one, my hat it tipped to the person who thought up the technique...this was when I operated a flat bed and medium duty wheel lift back in the late 1990’s....
Keep up the great work and amazing videos you choose to share with us..
Thank you!
Should have just brought Tator, lifted the building out of the way and grabbed the jeep. :)
Or picked it up and dumped the jeep out
lol
very funny, ha ha.😒
H
lmao
Hats off to your skills man!!! I mean holy cow thats brilliant.
27:40 You've got the right attitude Mr Pratt, count your blessings not your obstacles! You excel at an often dangerous and thankless job, but from all of your subscribers we say Thank You and God Bless!!👍🏼🙏
Tow truck drivers: "Ain't no one's bed cleaner than mine!"
Ron: "Hold my dish soap."
Wow, the skill and precision in which you manuver this vehicle is amazing!!! I never knew you could store or fit a vehicle in a place like that! Kudos Ron for a job extremely well done!
Yes you can. I use to store my 2014 Camaro in one. The owner of the facility was worried when I wanted to store a car there. At first he was scared because he thought it was an old car with leaks lol
I love storage unit removals. This separates the tow truck driver from the recovery operator
Very true! Know from experience! Miss my trucks! Had to retire due to cancer. Have a great day and keep up the great work!
Ran a wrecker for years, towing cars out 0f garages without damaging the concrete or epoxy requires some unusual steps when you can't drag the vehicle.
You should see where I pluck cars out of as a reposessor.
I see some tow truck drivers and think any idiot can do that, then I watch Ron’s videos and think there is an art to this.
Friday mornings with Ron! Yes please. Off to a great start now!
My favorite is Friday evenings after work with Ron eating dinner after a long day's work. :-)
Wow Ron, you make that look so easy. Knowledge on what your tools can and can't do is well worth the time invested.
I enjoy all your videos Ron. It’s awesome watching a professional at work. As I get older I’ve come to realize that when you want something done right the first time. You pay someone professional to do it. And it goes that way through a lot of ways in life. Stay doing what you do and always stay safe.
Thanks 👍 Thank you for watching and God bless.
Wouldn’t it have been easier to pull the car out with the winch only at correct angle, then once car is fully clear pull
It round and load it up?
There's multiple solutions to every problem, I'm sure he has his reasons for doing it as he did, I agree with you though
I've been recoving cars for 15 years. I would have side pulled it out with a snatch block and slippery Jim's under the wheels and then squared it up outside. At the end of the day its up to the operator how they do the job. As long as its on and gone who cares!
Everyone has their own technique, as long as the end result is achieved and works as intended. Then there should be no problem.
Guy: They can't take my car, I've got it secured in a storage locker!
Ron: Hold my coffe... :)
or in Ron's case, coffee. (Ron doesn't drink alcoholic beverages)
Y'all watch this!! 😁
I had to recovery a doge charger for Enterprise rent a car once. parked on street with one 3 inches off the front bumper and as well as the back bumper, look right at the enterprise rep and said that exact phrase, Watch this... the customers that kept the car and forgot to pay on it came running out once it was up my deck.....lol
Guy: They will never get my car, its locked away in a storage locker!
Ron: Give me 30 minutes!
michael king l
I really enjoy your videos. Your positive attitude, and strong commitment to safety. It is refreshing to see a company that insists on performing only quality service. We need more people like you in the world. Thank you for your videos.
Courage. Commitment. Honor.
GO NAVY!
People seriously underestimate the level of technical skill and finesse required to do a recovery like this with this large of a flatbed in the small of a space with zero damage to the building. I hope you're training up apprentices. These are skills that only get learned hands-on. Well done.
Greetings, and Blessings from Cardington Ohio ..... Very nicely done .... You make it look easy and as smooth as butter, but we know it's not!!! Thank you for sharing another great job video!! Thoughts, prayers and Blessings to each of you!
Thanks to you, I’ve got a job working with a repair shop.
James Kanipe GOOD luck👍
So, no cars and trucks speeding past you and no power lines trying to bite you and no pressure getting everything tied down. How relaxing of a job for you! Although you do make even the most difficult jobs look easy. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful equals a Fantastic Recovery with NO damage to the Storage Locker. You make it look Incredibly Easy but that’s what 30+ years of Experience looks like. 😬 Great 👍 job, Ron and GOD Bless you also!
26:30 I'm sure Ron, you have heard of other recovery & towing companies that the wannabe recovery drivers have actually left the winch tightly applied with the tire straps hogged down. Those folks just *shortcut cowboys*, total disregard for the SOP and USDOT rules. You sir are the "Pro From Dover". God bless you Sir
Not going to lie at the start of the episode the first thing that caught my eye was tow matter and let’s be honest if your a tow truck driver and you don’t own a tow matter plush or figurine your dash isn’t complete with out one
Ron, that’s what I call surgical precision! You are one of kind!
You know most of the thumbs down are the people that just want to hate on us wrecker drivers.. Keep up the great work Ron.. My next stage is to start learning heavy.
Storage lots give me the creeps. Every unit has a story and some of them are pretty sketchy. "If these units could talk".
Think about the stuff people don’t find
Shady stuff gets stored and never found then they simply move it and it gets rented to someone else
The really creepy ones are multi level indoor storage lots where it’s just halls and halls of doors that all look the same leading into unknown size rooms
Ever consider carrying some go jacks to pivot the car first?
THIS, also so handy in a workshop or if you are packing cars into a storage space since you can snug them up super close and safely... and pretty cheap for something so useful
I was thinking neutral and wheel chocks. With ropes attached, you can ever drag the chocks along so they act like a ratchet to hold your progress.
Obviously, that's more of a hard surface solution and Ron seems to attract mudhole calls, but this would have been a good one for it.
Go Jacks can be useful but you also have to be careful using them. This vehicle here is front wheel drive so if you apply Go Jacks to the front wheels you now have a free rolling vehicle which can cause it's own issues.
I was thinking this, but hey he got it out pretty quickly considering the technique.
Love to have this jeep
I could watch your videos all day long.
Ron, everytime I get myself into situations like this I ask myself WTF I'M DOING?!?! 😂 but you just proved to me that its just part of that #TOWLIFE. Love the vids keep it up!
Wheel lift wrecker might have helped some in this “few far between” instance at a lower cost than rotating rollback
Most Flatbed Towtrucks here in Germany have a Crane to lift the car on the bed.
Nice job. I would have never thought of the way you pulled it out of the building. Totally amazing recovery.
Is there really ANY vehicle you can't rescue?? Maybe one encased in cement, sunk in a pond?? I'm amazed and in awe
by how many different situations you handle! You are a true professional! May God continue to bless you and keep you safe!
You broke a man law. Once it's tied down you must say, "that's not going anywhere". 🤣
Or wheres it gonna go
It is so awesome watching a master craftsman leverage his tools so fluently.
I know this is really late but i had to comment. I
Have been binge watching the last week or so. I come from a family of engineers ( mechanical, electrical, aerospace, chemical etc.). It would take them months to problem solve and calculate what needed to happen! You arrive on scene and evaluate and set into motion beautiful recoveries filled with all sorts of physics! Very impressive! I am also glad you finally stated what the dish soap was for. I had been wondering because I saw it in several videos! You are a great man and a devote Christian! Thank you for all you do and the care and time you give your staff, the other emergency responders and especially the victims of these crashes. You are a man we can all look up to!
You sir, are a car whisperer. You can convince any vehicle to do just about anything, anywhere!👏👏 On another note, I've wondered what the dish soap was doing on that truck in the past. Now I wonder no more🤣
Good job on "Twitching" this Jeep out of it's hiding hole and best thing ~ No On Coming Traffic!
or power lines!
Or power lines 😂
A little "Shake & Bake"...and that's how you "cook" a Compass.
or Hook and Book......lol
All fall into hard times a few times in their life. This happened to me with a new S-10 I had many years ago. The repo man came to tow my S-10 because I could not pay the payments after the economy collapse. I had to get a much lesser job to keep my home. I saw the tow truck coming and the repoman getting out of the tow truck. I simply stopped him. I told him I was going to get the keys. I came out with a drink for him, the keys, asked if I could take a few things out. The repoman was impressed and let me take out my belongings and enjoyed his drink. I then shook his hand, he wished me luck, and he drove the S-10 onto the flat bed tow truck. He wished me luck again and that was the last I ever saw of the S-10. As I mentioned, all fall into hard times from time to time. The way you handle yourself at those dark times shows a lot about you. If you can not pay for something, do not hide it or refuse to give it up. Just cooperate. Someone else has a job to do by taking your vehicle. Why make it unpleasant for the repo worker that has nothing to do with us not being able to pay for our vehicle. Just give them the keys.
😭
Lolol, you've set the bar pretty high for other tow companies now. We've all learned about QUALITY in how our vehicles should be treated when towed. Lolol
24:00 Whatever you do, don't drop the soap!
This was a masterpiece. Great job.
Great job Ron ! That was pretty tight I must say. Thank you for sharing your videos. Love watching them. God bless you and be safe.
That was a tight squeeze no doubt. I used to work in a storage and truck rental for a short time and I always wondered what was in those delequent storage units. one never knows I guess. drugs were found, stolen items, even get this....spoiled food items. But not a vehicle uh yet. I found a unit where someone was living in. One never knows what goes on in these places.
Always keep safe and before all things and before everything....keep God first. I do and He is Good. Yes God is good and I can't do anything without Him with me.
God Bless you, your family, and your staff and crew.

Ron loves a challenge and I hope he shares this as training video for his staff. I know I sure learned something.
I’m fascinated by some tow truck driver skills and this is no different. Fantastic job!
Always good videos, always impressed with the capabilities of a professional armed with a roll-back.
Great job, great to watch, thanks for putting these videos on. I know some of them get me thinking about driving more carefully. All being said, storage lockers: people got too much stuff.
"Dawn deck cleaning liquid" not a sponsor but should be.
Dawn has so many uses beyond just washing dishes.
Though I think I saw Ajax on the label :-) But nevertheless, it all works just the same for making tires slide better on the deck.
Notice how Dawn comes in an Ajax bottle?
Dawn that was actually Ajax... LoL doesn't clean worth a poo
It was AJAX
This seems like the old "crashed my car while drinking, I'll hide it and report it stolen" trick.
my thoughts exactly. The insurance will pay and if its found in a storage YEARS later then whos to say you did it.
@@jussayinmipeece1069 I'm guessing the records of you renting the storage unit, and you reporting your vehicle stolen will say within a reasonable doubt that you've did it.
Looks like a hit and run to me, since there weren't any police reports on the car.
You forget. They ran the vehicle, it came back clear
I like how you filmed no damage to storage unit after. It covers you. Great job
There are those that can do , there are those that just talk , then there's you ! You do it fine , you do it safe ! Even though some think their experts , you always say God Bless !! They could take lessons from you in manners !!
The story might be as unexciting as someone not having the money to repair it right away so they stored it and then did have money to pay the storage fees.
I love watching a true professional at work. Another good job, Ron.
As always, Ron showing his amazing skills. Nicely done Sir!
Ron as you said there was many ways and many things you could have done different. But God bless you, you did it your way. The greatest part weather we admit it or not if we watch closely something can be learned. Only the haters cannot see, Ron please keep up the good work.
A Peterbuilt with all-plastic innerds and an automatic? What is this world coming to?
Fancy
@@Schmuly ppl are afraid to try. i think it should be a requirement on driving test. whether you continue to use it is up to you, but knowing HOW to use it, might be a benefit at times
Its a working truck. no place for leater, or butt massagers or creature comforts. this kinda use would destroy that.
@@yamahonkawazuki I'm willing to bet that Ron could out shift you any day of the week !!!!!
All beds are now an automatic now:(
I don't know much about towing but would this be a situation where a shorter wheel-base wheel-lift truck (maybe with an auto-loader) would be helpful?
Was thinking the same thing
....and some drum beats.
Yes it is far more difficult in a bed with a selfloader you can back up to it and steer it out or winch it.
Yep. I do it all the time.
Usually those type of trucks are used by companies that enforce parking or do repos. A lot of times those towing services are a sketchy companies which Ron does not seem to be
Guess there is nothing Ron can't retrieve in any situation.... Great Job as usual. Thanks Ron and God Bless.
Ron, Just a thought... Once you pulled it off the inside wall of the locker (Great job BTW) and found out that the steering wasn't locked, I might have hit the shift interlock and pushed it out by hand. Crank it hard left, line it up with the truck and load and go... Might have saved some time and aggravation... Lol. Thanks for taking us along for the ride sir... Always appreciated!!
There's a fella that operates a vehicle storage unit like this near me, he has wheel jack dollys to move vehicles in and out
if you knew before you hooked up you could steer it, you might have had the bed near the other lockers and pulled it out that way, hindsight is always 20/20 though, and as it is said There is more than one way to de-fur a feline.
I love watching you drive in the cab view I don’t know why
Good job getting the Jeep out without extra damages. Yes there are many ways to get the job done and many tools as well. Don’t worry about the critics. 👍 You can always search the vehicles by year, make and model on youtube to see if they have a video on how to get them into neutral which could help a lot and make the job easier. Be safe out there and be sure to keep the awesome videos coming. 👍👍👍
I hope it wasn’t involved in a hit and run
They would have discovered that when they filed the legal paperwork.
David Young At least it wasn’t a Ford..
@@thomasdesmond2248 not really. if it was involved in a hit and run with no witness they would not know .
Something fishy about this fiat.
Maybe it was uesd in a crime !
He said in the beginning it was a Jeep
Would have come out when filling the legal paperwork.
Think the name is "Jeep."
This is pre-fiat. This is a Daimler-era design.
ROY CAPPS it’s a Jeep u on about fiats for
"We got this......" You've always got it coz you know how to work (play) the angles.
I want that truck. Remote control bed is awesome. And I really like the double snatch block. Makes complete sense.
Love your dedication to help people!
Ron, you must have been a Master level player of that game "Operation" growing up! haha You couldn't have done a better job getting that vehicle out of that tight space!
Hmmmm... the ole Dawn in an Ajax bottle trick huh?? Silly marketing scheme!! haha
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Solve for the first problem, then continue. Solve for the next problem, and so on.
All that Ron did was this, but faster, with more experience. Going slow and taking your time means you can make sound decisions.
LOL. I'm sure he played the game.
Woah how in the world did the gate keeper for the storage company not see that being brought in like that and not permit the person to stow it away in a unit that could have been used by someone else. Be safe while out on the job Ron and God Bless you , your videos always are a blast to watch.
That's some pretty impressive maneuvering, Ron! Nicely done.
Hey Ron, I'm wondering why you decided to both extricate the vehicle from the storage unit and load it in one go. Obviously you were successful.
Why not pull it straight out then pivot and load?
Does look a lot more complicated than it could have been.
Just what I thought- swould have taken less time
Many diff. ways. He chose his.
also, its a auto? is there not a switch in the center console to put it in neutral?
Chris hauser He says at the beginning that he wants it to stay in park. The reason for this is to keep it from rolling if he needs release tension on the winch line.
This looks like someone bought a Salvage Title expecting to "fix it up" and be able to sell'/drive.
Having recovered a few like this, it's usually people who get into a wreck, then want the car to be totaled to collect the insurance money, but insurance won't pay. They stop making the payment and the car goes up for recovery so they hide them in storage units so they cannot be recovered while they try to fight the insurance battle.
Never seen any of these people come out on top, usually ends up with the car getting towed away one way or another.
Clean title. No reported accidents.
Salvage title wouldn't have a plate on it. This car had a plate on it.
You sir, are a true professional!! Nicely done!
Very nice Ron I worked in the towing business for 20 years I would have done it the same way and like you said sir you do what you can to get the job done with what you have an experienced operator can and will get it done we always have tricks up our sleeve 😀 God bless you sir and be careful out there 👍👍🇺🇸
That would be a nice car for someone easy fix back in the day my best friend would say gravy lick fix
But the problem is, it's a Fiat product. So, it was never really nice. Bwahahahahahah
Probably...looks mostly like sheet metal...(except for the deployed airbags).
Once the airbags are deployed, it's a "total loss".
jfbeam you can replace the air bags
As Lawrence Welk used to say, "Wunnerful, wunnerful".
sweet precision "grab" right there! i'm allways fascinated how you pick vehicles out of places.
if i had to do this myself i think i would have tryed to unwedge it with some sort of Trolleyjack and then drag it out straight because i'd be afraid of destroying the storageunit in the proces :D
Great job
Ron
you work with what you have available.
It is always easier to be smart on behalf of others
Wow 1.4K people are watching this now. Cool
Morning Ron
A lot of times I say to myself “well that’s not how I would do that” while watching Ron’s videos. Usually the difference between somebody that makes his living in the recovery industry and somebody that watches UA-cam videos about it quickly becomes apparent. Dish soap for example, I never would have thought of that. I find the legal side of a recovery like this interesting as well. I figured the burden would be on the storage facility owner and they would have to put a lien on the title similar to how a mechanic does for a car abandoned at their shop with unpaid repair bills.
Keep up the good work Ron, stay safe, and God bless.
Great job 👍 you Didi it. First I thought it is impossible to take it out without any damages to the vehicle or storage... but you did it. Hats off you your operating skills.... 👍
Set of go jacks would’ve made that job easier
Hit and run?
How can that be a hit and run when unit wasn't damaged, my guess stolen and stored. Or about to be repoed so they just stashed it where it couldn't be traced but they can anyway
That would be my guess. Then hid the car and had to wedge it in.
That' what I was thinking.
Headlamps, grille, windshield all intact. Hood *destroyed.* That's a strange crash, and stranger still for a hit and run.
I think they hit a pedestrian then hid the car
Once again Ron, you made that look easy because of your knowledge and experience.
Good job brother! None of us were on scene to do this job n none of us were called to do this job! So we can all be Sunday couch quarterbacks n speculate on what should’ve been done ! You Mr.Pratt are a army of ONE! You did a fine job no damage to storage unit or Jeep! It’s called CYA (cover your a**!) you don’t want to be in possession of a vehicle that was used in or for criminal activity or a stolen vehicle! Hey you just pick em up n fine job sir! Godbless n be safe out there keep the rubber side down!
That’s a complicated one talk about having to use geometry in real life. I would of got it stuck in a bad position and ran.
If you had some "Go Jacks" it would have been much easier.
Limited access to the wheels and door size along with the drop at the concrete/asphalt would see them not work well. A half an inch drop with a few thousand pounds on them can destroy those caster wheels.
This video is an excellent use of a rollback to get a vehicle out of a tight spot! Now all I have to wait for is for Ron to discover two smugcars in a storage locker with no room to maneuver them! :D
I think you did a great job. Using your chains to change directions was spot on. No playing around with dollies that would have just taken extra time to sort out.
I would have thought a long reach forklift would have made this an easier removal than the roll back
haywardsteve Its not Midwest forklift.
8:45 I think you mean, "NOW for the tricky part" :)
Excellent recovery, always tough removing anything that is wedged in any where and this was no exception.
I really enjoyed this video . I’m a fully trained armchair specialist and even with all my “skills” I would have struggled to get that vehicle out of the storage unit .Lol . Great job Ron .
