  • Went for a quick trip down to one of my favorite primitive hot springs spots this week. Zeda got to have her first hot springs experience as well. Then, we headed down to paradise valley for another couple nights on the river, where montana once again presented a beautiful sunset

    Definitely one of the better places to self isolate with Covid, Zeta definitely looking happy and healthy there.

    “Redacted for your safety.” Priceless! Zeda’s really enjoying the springs and I’m enjoying watching her. Nice voice. Maybe Darth has some competition. Would a 12v dehumidifier would or would it draw too much power?

      Good question. At this point, everything is drawing too much power. I have to rely on my catalytic heater over my forced air furnace because the damn furnace has drained down my batteries to dangerously low levels. It's a potentially good option, though, in the near future.

      @@downbytheriver501 A friend of mine heats his Lance 1172 with a “PlatCat” vented catalytic heater. I think he installed a tiny computer fan to ensure good airflow.

      Thanks taylor! It's a surprisingly large amount of work as a hobby, though, as im sure you'll soon find out. Just a heads up!

    Damn yt!!! Didn't even know you put this up. Was wondering how you & Zeda were doing. Glad yer still moving around & giving Mrs Bigfoot a show at least. ps
    Need to find "Shadowing" in your editing software to make letters pop instead of fading away when they come up to a brighter area. Couldn't read the text at start.

    • @downbytheriver501
      @downbytheriver501  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, YT is a fickle beast. You have to turn all notifications on, or else I'll likely not be seen, even if you're subscribed. I try to put out a video every sunday now. It seems like folks like that day more than any other. Yeah, the shadowing thing is a PIA. The editing software I use (imovie) is very basic and I need to upgrade to final cut pro, but the amount of money I have already put into this channel is leading me to conclude I need to settle down a bit because it's getting rather expensive!

    Do you keep the roof vent open while you are in the camper? A small fan like you have on low circulating the air helps move warm air around and opening the vent allows the warm air to carry out the water vapor. We used to have a northern lite that we winter camped in all the time, we learned you have to heat at a high enough temp in the camper that the hot air can carry the moisture out of the camper vent. A Maxair vent cover is a must so you can use the vent in rain/snow.

      @downbytheriver501  2 місяці тому

      Yeah it’s been on my list to get a vent cover. Now that I have an amazing off grid solar/battery bank I use a dehumidifier and there’s no more issue!

    Awesome video!! Sucks you're sick though. That hot springs looks amazing!! I bet it was a bit chilly getting out to dry off though?!?! Zeda seemed to really enjoy it....she made me smile with how excited she was. Those are the biggest battery chargers I have ever seen!! haha

      It was actually perfect. The springs were hot enough to soak in to the point of almost fainting. Then, your body is impervious to any cold temps for about 20 minutes.

    Truck Camper Magazine did a story a while back about a great NL computer fan mod for air movement. The NL owner was a snowmobile enthusiast who used his rig to camp and pull his sleds around upper Michigan in the dead of winter.
    Good luck and good work!

      The second biggest issue I have while camping up in the cold winter environments is battery consumption. Actually, this is a primary issue most of the time. Solar panels dont charge up the batteries enough, the batteries are much less efficient in cold temps, and my battery bank is too small (2- GPL-4CTs) to maintain staying off the grid without charging or driving for more than a couple days. Now, the batteries are shot and wont last a night when using my furnace, so I have to use my catalytic heater as primary heat source until I get the battery situation resolved. Which sucks. A lot. Hahahha

      @@downbytheriver501 Would a DC to DC converter off the truck work for you as another charge source? With a remote start, you would not have to get out of the camper...

    I don't use mine nearly as much in the winter but condensation is a big issue. I cut a bunch of 1 inch styrofoam strips for under the mattress which helps a bit. But, when really cold I semi roll up the mattress during the day and use a fan.

    • @downbytheriver501

      Yep I basically have to do the same thing every few days otherwise I'll get mold growing on and under the mattress. Fun times!

    Thank you for this video which I enjoyed very much. Hope the bath didn't make your situation worse! Your dog is adorable! You make me want to get a NL camper but I hesitate between the latter and a van. I'm thinking about all of this! What camera do you use? Your pictures are magnificent! (This is a translation from French, I hope it's comprehensive in English!)

      No worries on the translation. It is better than many english speakers out there.
      My camera for this trip was a gopro 10. Although I also have a canon vixia hf g60, a gopro 6, and a drone that doesn't work.
      The bath really helped me feel better. When I was in there, the illness resided and I couldn't even feel it!

      I caught it on my way back to Montana from southern utah.
      Also, I am a very gregarious person occasionally, so it was pretty inevitable. Frankly, I am surprised it took this long to get it!
      Thanks for watching.
