Hi Carrie. Happy belated Birthday! My second Lamy Safari EF and Polar Glow came in yesterday. I love it! I bought Lamy Blue/ Black with my first Safari. I liked it but I wanted a little bluer tint in the ink for taking notes.
The EF nib was sticking a little and a little dry, so I made hundreds of circles and figure eights and stuff on Post-it paper and polished the nib up a bit. I also got it to flow a little wetter and it's writing so good now. The Polar Glow is pretty dark with a good blue tint which is just what I wanted. Plus, the bottle is pretty cool looking. I love it. Thanks!

I love Polar Glow and Writers Blood and I just ordered Mont Blanc’s toffee as I just bought my first Mont Blanc. Got it for $100 on Poshmark so I hope it’s not a knock off (#144 from 1989 and never been inked). It’s coming tomorrow so I can hardly wait!!! I hope your taste comes back. I’ve heard to take Zinc and it helps so maybe try. It couldn’t hurt-if I couldn’t enjoy my fav candy I would 😢 can’t wait for your birthday haul review🎉
I've been a subscriber for a great while but have never posted until I learned today we share the same birthday! So enjoy today as I enjoy it with you! I'll only confess that I am more than twice your age. But I'm still enjoying fountain pens as much as ever so you have a long career ahead! Great inks! I bought Ginger Chicken at your recommendation and have loved using it during fall (bought 2 bottles to justify postage to US). Will enjoy the second bottle as much as the first.

It’s so funny we have so much in common from pens and tea, to book tastes and ink tastes.
Tsuki-yo was my second ink bottle ever over a decade ago and is still one of my favorites.
Rouille D’Ancre has been upset by Lennon Tool Bar Sun Moon Lake Red Tea, which is my favorite tea of all time. The ink is slightly warmer and Herbin’s.
Diamine Safari for an olive green. But I’m exploring more olives so this may change.
Awesome ink selection! I've been wanting to try Ginger Chicken ever since I first saw you feature it on a video quite a while back. Such a great color. Also, if you are interested in a deep blue similar to the two you mentioned, with a sheen somewhere between them, you might like Sailor Manyo Kikyou. Thank you for sharing!

Since I mostly use my fountain pens for drawing, I mostly want waterproof inks. This year (2023) I started mixing De Atramentis Document inks to play with color. My favorites are green grey + a little yellow for a warm green that doesn't look like pickle juice, and brown + a little yellow & a little light grey for a brassy color to use in my brass pens. Favorite non-waterproof inks are Writer's Blood (now I feel dumb that I only bought a 30ml bottle), and lots of the inkvent colors from this year that I look forward to using. I also enjoyed Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu-syogun, Yama-guri, Momiji, and Ina-ho this year.
Nice selection. My number one ink is still (and will most probably always be) Mont Blanc "Toffee Brown". Number 2-5 (no order) are Diamine "Bloody Brexit", J. Herbin "Poussière de Lune", Lamy Crystal "Ruby", J. Herbin "Éclat de Saphir".. And as a special ink: Pelikan Edelstein "Golden Beryl" - the only shimmering ink I really love.

Happy Birthday, Kerry! My favorites this year have been MB Glacier Blue, Iroshizuku Murasaki Shikibu, Tsu-kiyo, Asa-Gao, and Taccia Sabrimidori (goes down blue but dries to a greenish blue with red sheen).
Oh, forgot Cross Violet! Great color, gold-green sheen, some water resistance. And Platinum Pigment Blue (cartridges) that I used in my Pilot Curidas. Also loved Sailor Seiboku (pigmented blue black).

Loving your choices! I have a few of these bottles. My faves this year have been Diamine Salamander, Kobe #34 Sourakuen Tea, Ferris Wheel Press Lapis Lullabies, Diamine Ancient &/or Vintage Copper and Pilot IROSHIZUKU Kon-Peki and Tsuki-yo

I'm curious about Lapis Lullabies too, but I'm in love with Stroke of Midnight and I feel they may be too similar... I'll may check some videos comparing them.🤔

@@s.n.11 you wont be dissapointed! Salamander is a green grayish, and is stunning, my favorite ink of 2023 for sure. The Kobe? OMG such a beautifully writing ink, it’s a gorgeous green color. Lapis Lullabies? OH>>> thats a dusty teal with shimmer. VERY nice ❤️

So glad you're mostly better! Being no diagnostician, I absolutely am not going to say what you totally had. Stay well! ... Nice inks! No disputation from me! As to mine, maybe it is best to say what I ordered in full bottle after loving a sample. In no particular order. Diamine Ancient Copper, 30 ml which I transferred from the crappy plastic bottle to a neat glass bottle with cork stopper which formerly held saffron threads. Private Reserve Avocado, which somehow was perfect in my Olivewood Pens from Greece Churchill. Well, just those two reorders. I loved but can't see owning a whole bottle of DeAtramentis Mahatma Gandhi, a saffron ink with such fabulous shading possibilities . . . lovely for writing, but tough for reading. Two reorders, then. Pilot Iroshizuku Asa-gao. Such a lovely deep blue. Diamine Red Dragon. What God originally planned for red, and then some subordinate said he needed a little different for apples.
Happy birthday! My top 2 inks are Pilot Blue Black and Aurora Blue Black. I’m about to try Tsuki-yo and Ku-jaku but every time I stray from blue black I can’t seem to write more than a page with any other color.
Noodler's Black. IMO the best ink in the World. My mainstay for utility black, main (only) choice for Sudoku and crosswords (often pulp paper). Immediately water proof, impossible to remove from paper, wood, cotton, linen. Easy to wash away from hands, plastic and pens. Stirling writing behavior in all pens. And *_VERY_* lightfast! (...for a dye based ink). In a community that almost only obsesses over color, it's not even particularly black (if blackness is your thing, this isn't for you), but still has a robust (and very deserved) reputation as an awesome ink. (Always shake/turn the bottle)
Noodler's 54th Massachusetts. The blueblack companion to Noodler's Black and does everything almost as good. Again, color is nothing to do cartwheels about, but the rest is. (Always shake/turn the bottle)
Noodler's Baltimore Canyon Blue. A clean beautiful blue that does the serious stuff - water proof, lightfast - as well as 'Black' and '54th', and the writing/pen stuff almost as well, troublefree. (Always shake/turn the bottle)
J. Herbin Lie de Thé. Good writing ink with good lightfastness and fair degree of water proofness. I also like the muted brown ochre color.
Diamine Autumn Oak. Good, benign writing ink with very good lightfastness, combined with being one of the most water soluble inks on the market. And that can sometimes be good and the preferred property for some pens and uses. Even if the pen is fully dried out, you only need to draw up a little water and you're good to write again. The color is a gorgeous Burnt Sienna.
Honorable mention: Noodler's Upper Ganges Blue (Always shake/turn the bottle) + water (2:1 to 1:1). Out of the bottle, this is a dull blue ink that can be prone to pen difficulties as it starts to dry out. But dilute it (NOT in the bottle, does not keep) and it comes to life. The color becomes a gorgeous, modest blue, that really does look like Upper Ganges, and despite being diluted, it's still very water proof and very lightfast. Diluting doesn't help all of Noodler's troublesome gunk-inks, but in this case it's a complete cure. ...And the color also becomes nicer.
Honorable mention 2: All of Pilot Iroshizuku's inks. The entire range. They're costly but it's really top quality stuff. All the inks have good properties, including very good lightfastness and "readable enough" water resistance. This is particularly remarkable for the many blue inks in this range, since it's common for warm blues in other brands to have vulnerable or poor lightfastness.

I’ve been using Organics Studio Nitrogen because I love how easily it sheens red, but my problem with it is that it smears pretty much forever. I just smeared a journal entry from a month ago. Do you have the same trouble with Polar Glow? If not, I may have to do a switcharoo. Thanks for the in(k)fo!
Oh, yikes, I'm so glad you're feeling better! That sounds like it was horrible.
My top five inks are *probably*:
1. Platinum Carbon Black. I use this in the largest number of pens, and it's the ink I write the most with. Boring, I know, but utilitarian, water-proof, and well-behaved. I love how smoothly and wet it writes. And black is also my favorite color -- and I love the way PCB looks matte on the page.
2. J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune. This is definitely my second favorite ink. I love the color and how well-behaved it is. It works pretty well on poor quality paper, and it has beautiful shading. I wish it were waterproof and wetter, but if it were, it would not PCB out of the top spot.
3. Sailor Seiboku. Another beautiful ink that works really well on poor quality paper. It's also drier than I like, but that's part of what makes it behave well on the lower quality paper. I love the color, and the shading is absolutely amazing. Blue is almost as utilitarian as black, and this ink is also waterproof (which I tend to prioritze), but I feel like it has more visible personality than PCB. Because of it being waterproof, well-behaved, and pretty, this is almost always the ink I use to address letters and packages.
4. Diamine Kopi O Kaw. I haven't been using it much this year because it's a Malaysian exclusive, and so it's expensive and difficult for me to get ahold of and I don't want to run out. But it's a *beautiful* dark brown with green/gold sheen that smells like coffee (though I think it smells a little chocolatey, too). It's beautiful, well-behaved, smells amazing, and is super smooth.
5. De Atramentis Aubergine. My fifth and sixth are close to each other, but I think this one comes out on top. A deep, eggplant purple, super wet ink. It's not waterproof, *but* if it gets wet, it does leave faint but completely legible gray text behind.
Honorable mentions:
De Atramentis Document Dark Blue. This was almost my number five ink. A dark, wet, waterproof navy blue that just writes so smoothly.
Diamine Skull & Roses. A German exclusive that's a heavy blue/red sheener. It's similar to Polar Glow. I usually use it for my gratitude journal which is an Odyssey notebook with Tomoe River paper.
Diamine Writer's Blood. I love the rich, deep burgundy color, and I love the name.
De Atramentis Document Dark Green. Pretty much what it says -- a dark green, waterproof ink.
J. Herbin Emerald of Chivor. Probably self-explanatory, but the color, the sheen, and the shimmer.
Platinum Pigment Sepia Brown. A pretty waterproof brown that I keep in my Kaweco Brass Sport. The color itself probably wouldn't be my favorite on its own, but I love to use that pen, I like waterproof inks, and I think it matches the pen well. I also like how wet and smooth the ink is, and I do think it looks very nice, even though it doesn't necessarily pop.
Private Reserve Infinity Purple. I can't stand most PR inks, but I love their Infinity line and I don't think they get enough hype. They really don't dry out while the pen is uncapped.

My favorites of this year are: -Sailor Blue (a dark denim like blue, with a red/purple sheen). - Sailor Blue Black (simply love it). - Octopus Fluids Sepia Black, which is a very nice dark brown. - Diamine Sepia, which is a very nice yellow/brown shading ink. And - Monteverde Horizon Blue. This year I want to find a nice dark green ink. Any suggestions?
I suggest Monteverde California Teal. It’s more green than blue and has red sheen.
Happy birthday! But .... 35 aint old. I can barely remember when I was 35. Had to look it up in my matrix: In 1978 II was a heavy equipment mech schooling on Caterpillar machines in Peoria, Ill. Demm! In 46 years you'll be my current age, so cherish what you have.
I don't have any favorite inks, but I'm conservative; Parker, Waterman, Pelikan, Sheaffer, blues and blacks w/o any fancy additives (glitter, shading, &C). Iroshizuku blues and a black. Noodler's 45th Massachusetts, Bad Blue Heron, and Eel. I dislike Noodler's bottles and Iroshizuku bottles because they are too easy to knock over. I prefer short, broad based ink bottles; for this reason I have some Diamine inks, one in brown. I dislike purple inks the most of those I find unappealing.
Love your ink choices. I’m wondering, have you ever compared either of your orange/brown inks to Ackermanns sbre brown? Just wondering if they’re similar. Want to get one of these.

Welcome back to the land of the living. You've clearly lost some weight, though that terrific high speed delivery and facial expression has not diminished. Now, about the 80 ml. bottles: if you like the ink, the big bottle will 1. save money 2. be much less likely to turn over and stain your great aunt Tillie's ecru crushed velvet upholstered settee. Inks (not all in big bottles, oh, well) I've liked a bunch in 2023? Noodler's Ink Bay State Blue, the ink we love to hate. Great saturation, terrific shade, never had any issues with clogging or clumping or jumping or settling. Private Reserve Unknown Green, cool color. Diamine Amaranth. Waterman Tender Purple, Monteverde Mandarin Orange.
