Canadian Club 43 Year “The Speakeasy” Whisky

- Today we have (mostly) a very old whisky to review! The “mostly” is because this Canadian Club 43 Year “The Speakeasy” does have a touch of 11-year-old rye whiskey in it. But don’t worry, it’s not enough to take away from the beauty of its age. To create this special 2021 release, they began with 43-year-old whisky created using 100% corn. Over the years, they’ve kept consolidating the barrels (essentially “topping off” the barrels with others of the same age) to minimize evaporation and preserve the whisky for all these years. Once it was time to bottle, they probably just used enough rye whiskey (by law it has to be below 9.09%) to revive the spice component. Now “The Speakeasy” name pays homage to all the underground establishments that dotted the US landscape during prohibition. And since Canadian Club was one of the most bootlegged spirits out of Canada during that time, it seems like a fitting tribute.
Retail pricing for this 90 proof whisky hovers around $300-$350, but if you’re lucky and find them on closeout (as I did), you might get a much better deal.

As of November 2021, my current bottle count is over 2,500. I am a Certified Specialist of Spirits and have also been accredited by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). I've been actively collecting for more than two decades and what started as a small basic home bar has transformed (with the help and understanding of my wonderful wife) into this collection and career. Speaking of my career, our new “Saints Alley Bourbons” have hit Total Wine shelves and they've been a hit! Given my knowledge and high standards, you know I’m working hard with my team to keep giving you some amazing releases! Thanks for watching and remember to please drink responsibly. Cheers!
This is a fabulous Canadian Club expression! Fantastic! I agree with your tasting notes. I share them. The 40 year old CC is my favourite of the 40-45 year olds that have been available. This is amazing after dinner, sipping slowly and just relaxing! I got the CC 43 yo expression for $230 in Vancouver! The 40 year old cost me the most. Terrific video! Thanks so much! Cheers!
That’s awesome to hear about the 40! Thank you for the great information and cheers! 🥃
I have debated about getting something like this one day just for the experience and having something with that age statement on the shelf is impressive. You will never ever find anything with that age at the prices these go for.
Just found and bought today in ohio. Its part of their last call program. Reduced pricing to move any remaining stock out. Only said it was 42 yr old, when I got there it was the 43 speakeasy. $179.99 down from 300.
That's how you do it! ;-) Congratulations and cheers!
Loved the review! It’s 310 dollars in Ontario
Thanks for mentioning that there are different whiskey experiences. Now that I am getting old my preferences are changing. Due to some health issues I can't drink high proof anymore. I've been through all of the phases. I really enjoy a soft but complex whiskey. Redbreast 15, Jameson 18 and Dalwhinnie 15 to name a few. I would love to try this C.C.
Great review, as usual, and educational, which I really enjoy. I have learned so much from your reviews. Many thanks!
I have the Canadian Club Chronicles Series 41, 42, 43 & 44.. The 44 has an caramel apple crumble, and dark plum on the palette..Exceptional value for the price, and a nice addition to any collection. Great review, and I recommend trying the 44..
Very nice! I'll have to see if I can find one - if they ever get to Texas. Cheers!
That makes sense as to why it would be more challenging to get. You must get a lot of exceptional Bourbons we don't get here. The 9.09% of other in the 44 has hints of brandy in it..
Always love your videos, I learn a lot
Thank you and cheers!
Thank you
Thanks!
You’re welcome and cheers!
It sounds delicious 😋
Nice review, great deal at $200!
Would love to do a review of that. Nice interesting bottle. Cheers
woa! 200 is an amazing price. I dont know how you keep finding these whiskeys as these amazing prices!
Lol, thanks! I literally just stumbled on it here in Texas. Just went to a mom and pop store and saw them on sale. Cheers!
I just saw this at my local store for $360 plus tax.
BTW - that Heaven Hill 27 was a real sipper for me. =)
I saw this bottle and the other little brother a bit older. Debated on whether to pull the trigger.
As a Western Canadian we do love our CC.Great review on the 43,thanks. Have you tried the 40,41,42 and now the 44 yr?
I Have tried a couple of those, but not the 44 (it hasn't made it to Texas yet). Thank you and cheers!
Where did you get this? I can't find anywhere in South Texas with it.
LH - what's your favorite Springbank / Hazelburn / Longrow bottling ?
Too hard to pick an absolute favorite. The double dark was greatness, but on my shelf I go to a single cask Springbank 17 and an older Hazelburn 8 in Sauternes a lot. Cheers!
I wanna know your thoughts on basil haydens
It’s okay, but I always feel like my money could be better used elsewhere. Cheers!
How many god damn fruits and nuts and veggies you smelling in that juice
Lol, tree-fiddy! Cheers!
