This was an extremely weird review. Andy comes out at the offset just being thankful it didn’t suck. Greg says he doesn’t know how he feels about it, but they both give it a 9 and proceed the rest of the review explaining why it’s not good. This feels like a genuine non 9 game just from the points you guys actually explained real well. Poor writing, poor dialogue, non impactful choices and lack there of.
This channel is just shill content. The show is struggling. So they r shilling as much as they can. Even shilling by pushing politics , leftist politics since they live in a super liberal town 😂 . A bunch of fake dudes
Watching reviews come out for this game has been so interesting. It feels like for every person I trust saying they freaking love it, there’s another saying the game is horrible (I.e SkillUp). This one may just have to be one I either just try for myself or wait a while for the dust to settle before doing so. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
How do you feel about DAV not having manually controllable characters being able to switch btwn them? It honestly looks like they through combat options out the window.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this game, was great to hear what you liked about it and how you felt. Thanks for putting in those last min hours for this one.
@@Zories97 The Matty Plays review is craziest one one for me. It’s like 40 minutes of him just being absolutely devastated by how bad he thinks the game is. 😂
The reviews for this game are all over the place from mrmattyplays to gameranx to kinda funny games it’s crazy how split people are about this game personally I think it looks cool and am looking forward to trying it
Yeah definetly. I kinda love it though. You get a feel for who to trust going forward. For example, everyone has the right to their own opinion but I CANNOT understand how a grown human being would score this a 9/10 for example, never mind a 10/10.
It’s a strange game. If it weren’t called Dragon Age or were just pitched as a spinoff, then more people would receptive to it. It’s a solid ARPG in its own right but judged against the previous Dragon Age games, it can feel shallow and far too tonally different.
Yeah the game looks cool and honestly I’d actually really like to get my hands on it I think having the expectation of not getting to make any real choices may help your experience going into it
The "Kinda Funny Highlights Channel" was recently converted, check out "Kinda Funny In Review" for the big movies pods, most of the non video game stuff can be found over there.. KF/AF included
Bioware is already on thin ice, they're not going to take a risk and make a new Jade Empire 20 years later when the first one didn't do super well either.
I don't know how people are glossing over the biggest issue with the writing. They don't show, they tell. EVERYTHING. Every event and motivation has to be stated plainly and clearly. No metaphors, no inference or insinuation, basically no slang or linguistic nuance. 'Here's what we did, here's what we're doing, here's what we're going to do, and even if our motivations are clear, we're going to restate them plainly.' It's just so bizarre how bland all of it is.
really enjoyed this open discussion and i appreciated the written notes/journaling! been a dragon age fan since origins and i can’t wait to get ahold of this game to see what they’re doing!
Very interesting Gamescast coming off SkillUp's review. Polar opposites when it comes to story, characters, writing, decisions, etc. I love hearing such divisive opinions on titles and where everyone is coming from.

skillup actually showed examples , this just reeks of sad
@@vikingrbeerdserkr8406 He didn't though. He's been a fan of Dragon Age and even said in his previews that he was cautiously optimistic. He then presented a full review of the game and offered multiple examples of proof as to why he disliked it as much as he did.
@@mAcroFazeSkillUp’s opinion is as valid as this reviews. It’s opinions, not facts. He’s showed examples of things he didn’t like and apparently that’s the only opinion that matter? If you don’t like them too, then it’s a problem, for you. For others, it didn’t break the game.
@@bdizzle9586 Oh for sure, I'm not trying to disprove that. In fact SkillUp even throws in the disclaimer that yes, his opinions are his own and that his intention isn't to shit on the game so much as it's just to provide what's most likely a different, if not more thorough perspective is all. I'm not saying people shouldn't enjoy the game or that it sucks, I'm no die-hard DA fan by any stretch of the imagination, I'm simply replying to the comment that SkillUp "Hated the game before he even played it" by saying that simply isn't the case, and that isn't opinion, that's fact.
Hi Andy, seen a few comments criticising your body language or whatever but honestly not everything has to be animated etc. Loved your insight and perspective on this game and it definitely comes across that you loved it! I can understand the struggle of tryna finish games for reviews and having external work to finish for the set and other work! Great job guys and excited to play myself even more when Halloween hits:) much love guys ❤️🙌
I think I’m really going to love this game. People expecting it to be Baldur’s Gate 3 or game of the generation or something are always going to be disappointed. Inquisition is such a flawed game in so many ways - mediocre combat, tedious open world. But I absolutely love it and have played it many times. As long as it gets the fundamentals right I think flaws don’t matter so much. People seem to want perfection out of games these days but that almost never happens. Even previous Bioware games are far from perfect.
"as long as they get the fundamentals right" after looking at a cartoony, animated, childish humor, horrible writing, light hearted DRAGON AGE experience is such a silly point to make. It was apparent from their companion reveal trailer that they DIDN'T get the fundamentals of a Dragon Age game right.
@@BackwardsCombatable Lol, you don't even know Dragon Age then because the series has always had light and goofy humor. This is pure revisitionist, tourist bullshit to say the games have been totally serious grim dark fantasy. It's totally a lie.
@@mandu6665 You've never played a Dragon Age game if your takeaway is that they are full of light and goofy humor. Maybe you should do some research and actually play the games before talking.
This was a great gamecast. Also wna give a special shoutout to Andy between hosting more shows recently and just overall, he’s been killing it man. Good job Andy and crew
It doesn't need to be GotY ... I just want a fun and exciting gaming experience and from what I've read that's what I'm getting so I am pleased and can't wait to start my journey
@@84jesterx skillup opened their complaints with stuff about facial animations, dialogue being 'hr friendly', and a lack of an option to be evil. none of which is really a concern for me. every game has awkward facial animations at times and some of the clips i've seen looked good, i have no idea what "HR is in the room" dialogue means. and being evil in most games ends up being shallow and boring after the shock value wears off.
@@84jesterx I did look up some footage too, thank you for your honest concern. At 33 years of age I think I'm capable enough of deciding what I like and what I dislike myself.
@@315MusicMan Same here. Personally I never really play evil characters in games cause it's honestly never rewarding. It's interesting to see how games approach it, but otherwise I see evil paths as "extra content" and not the main meat of the game. That's also how it was treated in BG3 LOL the evil paths have lesser questlines and endings that just wasn't as cathartic as the good/best endings. I'm guessing HR in the room means that they couldn't be as evil as they wished to play. From what I know, the evil options are just being a mild asshole lol
I've played Inquisition about 8 times, every time with a different Inquisitor, different race, different choices etc, so there really is no "canon" for me. I'm gutted 😂
I just watched the reviews of this from a few other You Tubers like Skill up and Matty plays and they made it sound absolutely awful, the contrast with this review is pretty wild. Kinda crazy how one person can think it has an amazing story and incredible combat and another person thinks it’s one of the worst stories ever and the combat put them to sleep.
Some people have different standards. For me, I’m only dripping $60 on something that is innovative and high-quality. DA:V feels like if you had AI make a fantasy game. Not worth it. Maybe a deep sale.
also those two reviewers seem to be in minority in those opinions. (but still valid for having them) reviews across the board seem positive with 84 on opencritic
There's also been UA-camrs who have loved it, dantics is a good example, WhatCulture, Kala Elizabeth was surprisingly critical but ended up saying she loved it!
I think the dichotomy with FFXVI is that there are truly terrible and shallow things in this game (the side quests, the gearing system, the "open world exploration" ) Those things are all things that could really make anyone dislike this game and I don't think anyone could disagree. But it also does things on a level that maybe no other game has done before, so as long as those moments sell the game for you, the rest of it is "worth it" I'd be curious if this game is the same way.
@lockekappa500 spot on! For me the spectacle was everything and more that I want from video games. Seeing asuras wrath and God of war 3 levels of anime craziness presented in realistic art design and high fidelity graphics was innovative to me. It made sludging through the boring stuff worth it. I'm also trying to see if there's something about Veilguard that can draw me in. Will wait for more players to get their hands on it!
@@heejincider4905 I know this sounds hyperbolic, but the Bahamut fight ALONE and everything that surrounds it is worth the $70 price tag. I just dont know how anyone can not recommend that game knowing you're telling someone to never experience that.
That's a big NO on that one, dawg. Only 3 types of people like this: - the VG media - some fans supremely high on copium - creators that Bio & EA winked at. The rest of the gaming world hates the sh*t out of everything they've seen from the game.
I love how whenever a new thing comes out there’s a certain section of people screaming the reviewers got paid off cause it doesn’t match with the preconceived opinion of the game they made up in their heads before even touching it. Maybe and I know this is crazy but maybe they just have a different opinion than you.
Fr. Oh they perceived it as being bad and reviewers say they like it and all of a sudden the reviewers are paid off and shills. But if it's a game people are hype about and it's got bad reviews people get upset over a low score for a game they haven't even touched yet. I take some reviewers seriously others not but I also just reserve judgment until I can either actually get hands on myself or wait to see a bigger consensus that isn't just reviwers
Yeah the only ones that got a code were the o es speaking g up about it, anyone that called it out didn't get a code, are then surprised that the only people reviewing it are the ones that shilled for it, so yeah they were paid by getting a free copy of the game, shows how cheap they are.
Never seen anyone so uncomfortable talking about a game they themselves rate as 8.5. They look like someone put a gun to their head. No enthusiasm towards a supposedly brilliant game. Yeah guys, congrats on getting paid good money and access for lying to your audience.
@@MegaMerdeux I don't care for BG3, I do care about people being honest with their audience. If you like Veilguard then that's great, those three don't look like they enjoyed the game at all.
damn looking at the comment sections here and other places people really want this to fail....we don't deserve games man and at some point game devs are just gonna give up
Bioware is just Bioware in name alone. If they make a game that doesn't resonate with the masses, then so be it. It's just business. The devs that haven't lost the plot when making games, and who respect their audience, will in turn be respected by the normal gamers out there(non of the weirdos on either extreme end of the spectrum). The core mass of normal gamers, are the ones who will buy and support those devs. These companies are learning the hard way to not chase trends, do not try and rip us off, don't release unfinished or buggy games, don't insult or talk down to your fans that built u up in the first place, respect the original IP or lore, etc.

Loved this discussion. I have to watch your Spoilercast after I play the game so I can listen to you guys expand in more detail some of your thoughts! Excited for Thursday!!!
You could easily watch a few short story recaps and be up to speed. I'm going to guess some of the reveals or emotional beats for the main story won't be as profound as someone like me who has been playing this series since 2009 but Bioware has always been good about making later entries in a series very approachable for new players. If you love the game, then you have three excellent and very different games to play and treat as prequels in a sense.
Kinda surprised Kinda Funny doesn't have a tier for the highest paying Patreons to get a digital copy of Gregs journals from games he is reviewing... As I am typing this, Greg announces he is giving away the digital version of his journal for free LoL
It’s been a long time since this has happened, but between Dragon Age Friday and pokemon TCG coming to mobile, I’m about to become consumed by video games and I can’t wait haha
@Theandycortez You’re still rocking the RTX 4090 right? You mention using FSR, and I gotta ask… Wtf are you using FSR instead of DLSS with a 4090??? lol
Nah I said FSR is default on steam deck. I switched to XeSS on steam deck. Used DLSS of course on PC but accidentally said AMD DLSS. Slip of the tongue.
I think most people were expecting to be able to role play in a BioWare game so to hear your character doesn’t have the option to be evil is a surprise
Genuine question, are you guys sat in front of a green screen? Or is that a genuine studio with a back screen? Coz as i was watching I couldn't see any typical Chroma Key giveaways....
I love the DA series and have played all previous games multiple times. Each has pros and cons. Am looking forward to this one and thank you for a great review session
I know Andy is big into graphic design (as I am with my graphic designer background) : I love the menus and the graphic design in the game, it's looking like A GAME and funky like no menus looked for me for a while. Refreshing to see. The amount of 1 or 2 bugs don't surprise me, after 2 bad games, you talk about a studio that took their lesson and learn. More studios should do it. Plus, Thanks for loving the 2D motion designs part with narration, I worked on those at my old job a couple years ago!
"This isnt an RPG." And that is a huge reason why reviews are going to be all over the place. Dragon Age is a RPG franchise. And this game sounds like a basic action/adventure game. Which is fine, but thats not what the fanbase wanted, and thats not they were told they were getting. So yea, they're gonna be unhappy about it. They completley changed the artstyle, tone, gameplay, and fucking genre of the franchise then get suprised pickachu face when the fanbase isnt happy. Market Elder Scrolls 6 as a traditional entry into the franchise then reveal at the last second it's actually an RTS and see if people dont have some very negative things to say.
It doesn't help that EA Bioware did not give out review codes to several content creators who were critical of the games during the early previews. Fextralife has an entire video on this. That said there are several very negative reviews aside from Skill Up, so this is clearly a divisive game.
@@HollowKnight21 And? Bioware has ALWAYS been about being inclusive with games so why would they give UA-cam channels that court a transphobic, homophobic and racist cult of fans? This game clearly isn't for that fanbase so why do these chuds even care. EA has the right to pick and choose who they give review codes to and no one is entitled to a review code. Plus, MattyPlays is in hotwater for his "editor's friend" breaking embargo and releasing footage while trying to spoil people on Twitter. His "editor's friend's" Twitter account was full of racist and homophobic posts yet quickly got nuked once people started calling out MattyPlays for the leak. THIS is why publishers can be selective at times with UA-camrs. These are just dudes with cameras. They're not professional games journalists and often court controversy and the type of gamer big companies want nothing to do with. Fextralife is a thief and a pissbaby. That dude steals content from forums, Discord channels, and Facebook groups for his wiki. The Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit banned him and his wiki page because he uses bots and search engine shenanigans to boost his page. Souls fans and Monster Hunter fans have HATED him for years because his wikis are full of wrong info and he threw temper tantrums when people corrected him. He even posted people's real names on the wiki page after they called him out for stealing and the places those people used to discuss the games got brigaded by incel Neo-Nazi gamerzzz chuds. Fuck fextralife forever. He is what's wrong with games these days.
@@JimmyDoogs That’s kinda the point. Dragon Age is meant to be like those games. The fact that it isn’t is why you like this one, and that should be a NEGATIVE on a review not a 9/10. It would be like Naughty Dog putting out a completely pvp Last of Us game and coming out and saying it’s a 9/10. By it’s very existence in that franchise it cannot be higher than a 7.
Would love to have another cast nember or even a special guest who wasn't super into this game on the spoilercast. With this game having such polarizing opinions online it would be great to have some of that discussion here. Loved this episode!
Thank you for the review! It seems everyone I *actually* trust or like loves this game. Dude, I'm so confused now. Andy and SkillUp are two reviewers I usually align with in terms of game taste, and they both have completely different opinions on the game 😂 I will say, I am a little put off by the visual design of the game and some of the dialogue I've heard. But the combat does look pretty cool.
Skill Up is a die hard fan mind and Andy not as much, i am surprised Andy is so high on it though with how much of it sounds nothing like the rest of the franchise.
Honestly I love it. But Harding and Bellara’s delivery is so grating and Disney channel. Everything sounds so exasperated even when not needed. That’s my only major gripe and it’s bothering my exp.
@@cloverraven Me too. I’ll pop back to this if I can find it and be real. It just hurts my ears “actually he’s right behind me…isn’t he 🤓” headass delivery. Loll
What do you mean all over the place? In general the game is scoring pretty good, maybe not for the lineage of Dragon Age but a 83 is a pretty good score for a game with this kind of history? If Wikipedia is to be believed, the game's development started all the way back in 2015 which is often a telltale sign of a complete mess of a game so in the eyes of many critics, it seems to have done quite well?
@Nergal134 It's more that the reviews that are critical of the game are showing a lot of footage that just looks *really* not good, specifically dialogue/narrative/voice acting. Meanwhile, the positive reviews are seemingly glossing over these really noticeable (and rather striking) issues, and praising it as a GotY contender. I just don't think on release these glowing reviews are going to be viewed as being entirely justified, and that it seems a lot of the narrative highpoints in the second act are blinding a lot of the narrative issues in the first/third acts. This is without touching on the awful lipsync & voice acting I've seen from different reviewer footage (including positive reviews). It's just what's being said, and what I'm seeing, aren't lining up at all, and I think the true quality of the game isn't a 9/10 or a 3/10 but somewhere more in the middle. It's ironic actually that Veilguard has the exact same overall Metacritic score as another game that got a lot of positive reviews (despite the footage acting as a contrast to their praise) - Starfield.
"It's not a role playing game" I know he didn't mean this as a negative, but how can you make a statement like this about a Dragon Age game and then say the game is great.
Because they shilling for bioware the game clearly is a big difference from the old games and people are not gonna like it. Bioware is dead . Im scared to how they are gonna mess up mass effect next
This game has shown itself to play things way too safe, IMO. Like Andy brought up how you can't have your character be evil or even just more of a dick if you wanted to. None of the dialogue options let you be anything other than different levels of "nice" for the most part. Think what u will about reviewers like Skillup and MrMattyPlays, but when watching their reviews, you can see for yourself the examples of what they are criticizing or praising. Everything I've seen and heard about this game, makes it out to be "baby's first Bioware action RPG game". Which is fine. There's a place for games like that. But it's still weird that this is the game we ended up getting, after so long in development, and that it's as "basic" as it is.
I haven't played the game, so who knows if I'll enjoy it or not... but on the evil choices... Most games either remove content from you when you make evil choices (like Baldur's Gate 3... choose evil, cut the story in half) OR the plot progresses and no one seems to mark on, care, or are impacted by your evil decisions (like how in DA:O, Allister will plea with me, the character who is a blood mage, not to trust blood mages... it's like 'bro, I'm right here!'). I don't hate the idea of narrowing the path of choices if it makes the whole experience make more coherent sense.
Only 20 minutes in but I’m glad to see normal guy reviewers praising this game. It’s so hard to trust the huge company reviews anymore and it seems like content creators are dragging it through the dirt. It makes me wonder how much of the negative opinions come from a real place of review and not a biased place of “EA has been failing, this isn’t perfect” or “this isn’t DA origins so it’s awful”. Games don’t need to be perfect, games in a series like DA don’t need to be identical, games need to be enjoyable. If they leaned into taking you on a story like Witcher vs giving you fallout RPG then more power to them. Can’t wait to finish this and see what the guys think
Great coverage, y'all! Really appreciated what you all had to say with varying degrees of familiarity with the franchise. I loved what Greg said about it being a Ground-Rule Double instead of a Home Run. Still a great outcome, just not quite as good as it could have been.
Thank you guys for giving multiple individuals perspective. Mr Matty’s review scared me as a series fan myself. However judging a game and a team for the product itself and not comparing it to older titles feels to be a more adequate critique. I’m looking forward to jumping in to the game.
I don't understand how people can say something like "don't compare it to older titles" in cases like this. If they released a Halo puzzle game should we go "hey, hey, settle down you can't compare it to the rest of the series and its expectations"
@ My main point is look at the team behind the title. If it’s missing the creative minds that established that “it” factor for a previous title, then why would informed consumers expect that same vibe. Honestly looking at every dragon age they all feel extremely different, Origins being my personal favorite.
@ To your point, a Halo puzzle game may not speak to the series base audience, expanding genres within a franchise is a way to broaden your audience. Allowing for revenue to give company investors incentive to be on board for a new main series title. It’s just business but I can lead to bastardizing the integrity of a franchise. We can look at the new Destiny mobile game as an example. Completely different team in charge of it and it’s already been stated as non-canon to the main series, it could be the nail in Destiny’s coffin. Or it could bring in a new audience and provide the hype necessary for Destiny 3.
If you as an individual have experienced previous games from this series or even other games from this developer how is it bad to compare this game to those? I understand judging something on its own merit but you must be realistic. Everything we experience creates this "scale" we each have to judge and critique. Calling something a bioware game means something. It immediately gives you expectations. Now being a reviewer means you must traverse and discern all these things to critique the product. It's completely fair to compare something to another thing and for me personally I'd prefer the reviewer to be well versed in a series and explain to me how it holds up to the rest of the franchise.
How could you give this game a 9 when the writing is so bad, you either have bad taste or you were bought by EA. I am leaning towards the latter. This game is great, it’s a great litmus test
I unfortunately really did not connect with this game and could not finish it because I was just not having a good time. Not a fan of the character designs, with the cartoony visuals combining with the simplistic, shallow dialogue really reminding me of the Marvelization of the Star Wars movies. This doesn’t feel like the dark fantasy world of Thedas from previous games, but like a Saturday morning cartoon version of it. I also am kind of bummed about the combat. I can see why people who don’t like more tactical or slower paced would enjoy the button-mash action that you speed through but it felt like playing an MMO or other multiplayer game and it just didn’t work for me. I’m left definitely being shocked by the positive reactions this game is getting, but clearly just means this a different type of game than the past that I loved. Now looking forward to Mass Effect with the hope that it holds the BioWare magic I didn’t find here.
same that happened with Concord, all was amazing and they all sign out and never came back. I bought the game super excited and all content creators (and people) were gone. Then I realised they were there just for sell me the game, not give their honest opinions...
I appreciate your reviews! I'm going to support this game and hopefully it sells very well so Bioware can continue its work. Lots of folks looking forward to the new Mass Effect.
It's super sad to see people whine about diversity. It's a normal part of life. Why be hateful and avoid fun games? They're missing out on lots of amazing experiences.
For me it's the tone, the character animation and voice delivery that I really don't like. It's Disney Effect: Andromeda all over again. It's a little hard to believe they could mess it up again
They didn't mess it up since that's exactly what they were aiming at. A less dark story with more humor. I personally would've preferred a darker story and more grounded writing. But people who expected the old school dragon age vibe will obviously be disappointed, it's not the same writing team making these new games.
It's insane listening to these guys chub each other up and talk themselves into giving a higher score than this game clearly deserves. The very first guy admitted that it was a 50 hour long game and stated that the dialogue was cringe and that the combat was repetitive yet it was somehow an amazing game. 50 hours of bad writing and combat yet they are saying its a 9. They are clearly high off finishing the game only a few hours before talking.
@@TapTwoCounterspell lmao where did they say its bad? They said at places the dialogue was cringe. That doesn't mean bad. And I didn't once hear them say combat was bad. I don't think this game will be a 9 for me but it's pretty clear you're just mad they didn't rip it apart.
yeah its quite obvious they didnt have enough time to digest the game like they said at the beginning, the other replies to you are delusional. its a game they stated outright they had to rush because they had no time
The reviews are quite diverse out there yet all four or five of them loved it 9-10s. Seems like one of them would have seen some of these issues other reviewers did. I don’t think you’re a bigot cause you don’t want several trans and pronoun lectures in your dragon fantasy game you’ve been waiting years for. I’m supposed to believe that these characters are worried about this shit in the middle of everything going on? You can like the game and still be honest about how a lot of this is just forced in and just doesn’t make any sense in this game.
@@theminimumheroic well matty also didnt like it but yeah I know what you mean, Im looking at a bunch and going to decide when the game is out and see what players think. I said this on another comment but for the people upset about all the negative or generally mean comments remember this is the vocal minority. They scream and yell and throw insults because they think that's what they need to do to be heard. But most people don't care and generally have better things to do. Like playing games.
Ralph on Skill Up had a pretty convincing review with lots of examples of how shallow(from writing to combat) this game can be. He’s a pretty forgiving guy but he’s also a DA fan who clearly didn’t like the shift in tone and that bias may have brought down his personal score.
Guy says it's one of BioWare's best, but also that it's an 8.5 with a by-the-books story with lifeless cities and the writing isn't as good as it should be..?
This was an extremely weird review. Andy comes out at the offset just being thankful it didn’t suck. Greg says he doesn’t know how he feels about it, but they both give it a 9 and proceed the rest of the review explaining why it’s not good. This feels like a genuine non 9 game just from the points you guys actually explained real well. Poor writing, poor dialogue, non impactful choices and lack there of.
No I said those were my initial thoughts on it (my first 4 or 5 hours with the game)
Yeah 9/10 reviews are usually glowing. This felt like the citizens of North Korea giving a review of their government
This channel is just shill content. The show is struggling. So they r shilling as much as they can. Even shilling by pushing politics , leftist politics since they live in a super liberal town 😂 . A bunch of fake dudes
You don’t think it’s a 9/10 and we all know that
for those asking at the end of the review, i like it more than dragon's dogma 2. really wish DD2 had veilguard's level of characters and story beats.
Watching reviews come out for this game has been so interesting. It feels like for every person I trust saying they freaking love it, there’s another saying the game is horrible (I.e SkillUp). This one may just have to be one I either just try for myself or wait a while for the dust to settle before doing so.

Bioware is already on thin ice, they're not going to take a risk and make a new Jade Empire 20 years later when the first one didn't do super well either.
It's 1 of only 2 games I wanted to play that was exclusive to the original Xbox that I never played.
I would love a Jade Empire remake. My first Bioware game.
i would love a remake or a new one. Jade empire is so underrated
I don't know how people are glossing over the biggest issue with the writing. They don't show, they tell. EVERYTHING. Every event and motivation has to be stated plainly and clearly. No metaphors, no inference or insinuation, basically no slang or linguistic nuance.
'Here's what we did, here's what we're doing, here's what we're going to do, and even if our motivations are clear, we're going to restate them plainly.'
It's just so bizarre how bland all of it is.

I’m not sure if this game is for me but this is spot on.
Perfection should never be the expectation
Ubisoft ceo?
"as long as they get the fundamentals right" after looking at a cartoony, animated, childish humor, horrible writing, light hearted DRAGON AGE experience is such a silly point to make. It was apparent from their companion reveal trailer that they DIDN'T get the fundamentals of a Dragon Age game right.
@@BackwardsCombatable Lol, you don't even know Dragon Age then because the series has always had light and goofy humor. This is pure revisitionist, tourist bullshit to say the games have been totally serious grim dark fantasy. It's totally a lie.

It's interesting to see how games approach it, but otherwise I see evil paths as "extra content" and not the main meat of the game. Kinda crazy how one person can think it has an amazing story and incredible combat and another person thinks it’s one of the worst stories ever and the combat put them to sleep.

There's also been UA-camrs who have loved it, dantics is a good example, WhatCulture, Kala Elizabeth was surprisingly critical but ended up saying she loved it!
This feels like Final Fantasy 16 all over again. People HATED it and LOVED it.

You could easily watch a few short story recaps and be up to speed. There are lots of games that had mixed reviews and people enjoyed em in the end, so the last opinion should be yours
The general consensus of most reviews has this game being really good and then there’s Skill Up saying it’s a bigger disappointment than Anthem.
Reviews are kind of all over the place right now so I'm definitely interested in grabbing it down the line and trying it
What do you mean all over the place?

No it makes complete sense. This game was do or die for the studio so they played it safe and made it as mainstream as possible.
@@lurkingposterDude they disrespected DA’s name and you only care about that
@@tdspkhype3042cry about it
@tdspkhype3042 Only care about what? I'm just explaining why BW went the basic route. I didn't even say whether this was a good or bad thing.
And I'm happy to see a normal comment. Thank you.
Great coverage, y'all! Really appreciated what you all had to say with varying degrees of familiarity with the franchise. I loved what Greg said about it being a Ground-Rule Double instead of a Home Run. Still a great outcome, just not quite as good as it could have been.
Nice of you guys to step away from talking politics and going back to something you actually know something about!
Ahh yes.... DRAG Age FAIL-hard: San Francisco Simulator is out and I decided I identify myself as DEI nonBUYnary 😏.....so, no thanks 😎
When you said “SoB” I died laughing haha
Great show yall! Excited to play now. Bioware is back!
If you give Veilguard a 9/10, then wtf would rdr2 or elden ring be? 15/10? They are miles better games
Anyone who buys this game is going to be very disappointed
How could you give this game a 9 when the writing is so bad, you either have bad taste or you were bought by EA. I am leaning towards the latter. This game is great, it’s a great litmus test
No idea what to think about this game. SOme reviewers i trust are flaming it some love it lol. Feels like starfield all over again
@@jimifender22 Probably ends up being a little worse than the critic reviews. Starfield has an 83 on Metacritic after all.
it became part of the culture war which instantly bogs down any genuine critique
Summary: Better than Dragons Dogma 2 worse than Buldars Gate 3.
Dragon Age: Concord
#1 game on steam lol
@@TheAndyCortez 10 days later #26. fucking shill.
Just more pandering, lost all respect.
Zero credibility
this feels like propaganda
same that happened with Concord, all was amazing and they all sign out and never came back.
Kudos to you guys. Real reviewers. Not those basement dwellers getting triggered by pronouns. UA-cam is a cesspool full of haters.
It's super sad to see people whine about diversity. It's a normal part of life. Why be hateful and avoid fun games? They're missing out on lots of amazing experiences.
Jade Empire 2!
Great review. It seems like this game is for new people but leaves Origins fans behind.
I don't think this game will be a 9 for me but it's pretty clear you're just mad they didn't rip it apart.
dude didn't listen right
cope harder
yeah its quite obvious they didnt have enough time to digest the game like they said at the beginning, the other replies to you are delusional. its a game they stated outright they had to rush because they had no time
The reviews are quite diverse out there yet all four or five of them loved it 9-10s.
This isn’t the Bioware you’re looking for, move along.
Really wide review score range on this game. Skill Up hated it but I think I’ll try for my self
Finally, a rational normal human response
Thanks fextralife for helping us find the paid schills. Oh hi kinda funny, glad you enjoyed the game 😂.
😂😂😂 it's crazy. The combat better be top tier bc that dialogue was the cringest shit ever
Fextra life is just butthurt they got rejected.
Facts!!!
@@frankhemstra634rejected for being critical
😂
I like this review on it, especially since I’ve seen such negative stuff for other reasons.
how do the kinda funny guys love it so much and skill up hates it its so polarising
skill up wanted to be evil, soo
Bruh why is everyone paying so much attention to the 1 bad review instead of the dozens of good ones?? Do y'all just want the game to be bad?
@@theminimumheroic well matty also didnt like it but yeah I know what you mean, Im looking at a bunch and going to decide when the game is out and see what players think. Im not paying it so much attention its honestly that im just baffled at how on one side its GOTY and the other its the worst game ever made
@@theminimumheroic Yes, they do. Their ragebait grifter overlords demand this game fails because it's woke or whatever, so they will spend hours just brigading everything about this game.
Reviewers should stop making a number up and vote as every single time anyone give opposite values.... just review the game, tell me what it is and what not but leave numbers behind stuff nowdays is too much varied to be compared to
I said this on another comment but for the people upset about all the negative or generally mean comments remember this is the vocal minority. They scream and yell and throw insults because they think that's what they need to do to be heard. But most people don't care and generally have better things to do. Like playing games.
If you're new to the franchise I'd at least give Inquisition a play, since certain events are directly tied to it.
Love seeing people salty about positive reviews 🤣
LOOOOOK AT ME LOOOOUUUIIEEEE 😂
Ralph on Skill Up had a pretty convincing review with lots of examples of how shallow(from writing to combat) this game can be. He’s a pretty forgiving guy but he’s also a DA fan who clearly didn’t like the shift in tone and that bias may have brought down his personal score.
This is why the review scores are so suspicious. He had evidence and most of the reviews don't.
dude was showing way too much spoiling shit, terrible
@@MurderWeaponLimited there was a huge warning he was gonna spoil shit don't even 😂😂
He is not a DA fan, he said before the review he has no history with the franchise and barely touched Inquisition
@@skaldi8347 for not being a DA fan, he sure had a lot to say about the change in tone from the previous games.
Never played a dragon age and all the mix of reviews is giving me whiplash. Can’t wait for steam reviews to see what everyone talks about.
beware of people buying and shitting on it for no reason
Guy says it's one of BioWare's best, but also that it's an 8.5 with a by-the-books story with lifeless cities and the writing isn't as good as it should be..?
Yeah it makes NO sense.
His 10 isn't you 10? It's not that hard, what's his rating of ME2 maybe not as good as this
Really makes you question who would fall for this
But the real question not answered here... do all of the Qunari look as awful as what they have shown us?
No, I'm very pleased with my Qunari
@OrderNo66 thank you
If this game featured the main character of Stellar Blade 75% of people complaining in the comments wouldn't be doing it lol.
Lmao, you're so right. All this culture war nonsense wouldn't matter if peepee happy. It's a really sad state of affairs, really.
Besides their mum, clerks in a store, and Pornhub, it's the only way these nerds are able to interact with women lol.
