    My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

      The downside with Medtronic is it's so big, but I agree the tandem cartridges are a faff and seem very wasteful of insulin. I would also prefer if they were made of clear plastic so you could visually check everything is ok inside.

    This pump is new to me. I had a Medtronic, and an Animas pump before this. The Animas pump was a good decision, and the Medtronic to replace it was rather forced on me. So Far, the T-Slim puts the others to shame. I find it wild, intriguing, and amazing that the pump does everything, corrections, and maintenance without asking for input. This is a well-engineerd instrument! I hope the quality of what it seems to be stands up. I'll not go backwards in my care, this pump won't allow it.

      Think of filling the cartridge (reservoir) like mixing & taking insulin via a vial & syringe, if you were diagnosed long enough ago to remember that process. That's what this "cartridge filling" brings to mind. I wish you the best & hope for improved control & easier care for you!

    so I've had a Medtronics pump for 20 years and made the jump to the tandem pump (just today) and Dexcom G6 (three weeks ago). I love them BOTH BUT I really hate the way to fill the Tandem pump. Please look at how SUPER EASY Medtronics makes it. Now I'm looking for a "fill syringe"? on the net to buy :( The Medtronics pump reservoir has an attachment that connects directly to an insulin vial bottle and none of this ridiculous transfer insulin via "fill syringe" then inject it to the cartridge. Then after attaching the quickset tubing I can add more insulin back to the cartridge? This seems like the ONLY part of this new pump that I really dislike/hate.

    @Tandem: Why does the video show a new cartridge in the pump and an existing infusion set/site? Both should be changed every 48-72 hours, right? So what would be the occasion to put in a new cartridge but not change the infusion set? If this is a NEW infusion set, then you are not filling the cannula in this sequence.

    • @tandemdiabetes
      @tandemdiabetes  3 роки тому

      Hi Ranjeet. You are correct, we recommend that both the infusion set and cartridge be replaced
      every 48-72 hours. However, if you notice leaks around the site, or if you
      suspect your infusion set cannula may have become dislodged, you should replace your infusion set right away. This may cause your cartridge change and infusion set change to be at different times.

    I have a question on removing residual air from the cartridge. The video says to pull the plunger until it is fully retracted, what does it mean for the plunger to be fully retracted, and is it possible that I could pull too much air out of the cartridge? My trainer said to pull until I see two air bubbles come out, just want to make sure this lines up with what the video is saying

    • @tandemdiabetes
      @tandemdiabetes  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jesse. Thanks for reaching out! Fully retracted means that the plunger is pulled back as far as it allows. As for the air bubbles, two is the most common amount you will see come out of the cartridge. Any more or less than this isn't bad.

    How long in advance can you store the cartridges which you already have filled with insulin before using it. Filling a cartridge costs time which you can’t do during work or travel.

    • @tandemdiabetes
      @tandemdiabetes  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Hans, although it's convenient, We do not recommend pre-filling cartridges. Tandem has not done testing on the biocompatibility and stability of insulin stored in the cartridge
      for extended periods of time, or of insulin refrigerated in the cartridge. In addition, insulin has dissolved
      gasses and when cold insulin is warmed, the gas will come out of solution and form bubbles. So, putting a pre-filled cartridge of refrigerated insulin in the pump may result in bubbles in the system.

    • @AB-hu4fc

      @@tandemdiabetes So you are tell us that Tandem did not bother testing the biocompatibility and stability of insulin stored in the cartridge. So how can Tandem claim it is safe to use without testing to see if it is safe? For this reason I will have to pass on getting a Tslim x2 and stick with Medtronic. Medtronic sucks but they at least did the testing to claim that insulin loaded into the reservoir is safe to use.

      bedtime or if you will not be able to test your BG
      1-2 hours after the new infusion set is placed. It
      is important to confirm that the infusion set is

If you do inadvertently change your CGM sensor supplies from Dexcom G6 to Dexcom G7, please contact Dexcom to arrange receiving Dexcom G6 supplies until we have completed integration with Dexcom G7.
      The timing of integration is dependent on many factors and we are actively working to deliver an integrated solution as soon as possible. Tandem’s goal is to have the first FDA cleared insulin pump to integrate with three continuous glucose monitoring sensors. We anticipate that existing US in-warranty t:slim X2 pump users will be able to remotely update their pump software and choose their CGM: Dexcom G6, Dexcom G7 or Abbott Freestyle Libre 2 starting this fall. Why not remove the residual air before drawing insulin into the syringe?

    • @tandemdiabetes
      @tandemdiabetes  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Gino. Removing the air from the cartridge is performed this way so that you can see this air being removed, rather than just assuming that this is happening.

    Can the cartridge be reused ?

    • @tandemdiabetes
      @tandemdiabetes  3 роки тому

      Hi Paul. No, we do not recommend reusing your cartridges. The efficacy of your t:slim X2 Pump cannot be guaranteed if cartridges other than those manufactured by Tandem are used or if cartridges are filled more than once. Use of cartridges not manufactured by Tandem or reuse of cartridges may result in over-infusion or under-infusion and may cause serious injury or death.

    • @tandemdiabetes
      @tandemdiabetes  5 років тому +1

      The initial estimate of the insulin level is calculated during priming process and may occasionally
      generate a low estimate of the cartridge’s actual insulin level. Each time insulin is delivered, the estimate of the remaining insulin is updated and refined. If the initial estimate made during priming is low, the displayed reading on the home screen will remain where it is until the actual contents are reduced to the displayed estimate. If you have concerns about your fill estimate amounts, call our Customer Support for guidance at (877) 801-6901.

    What a ridiculous refilling process. I have to do that every three days. Using a needle while holding a vile to pull out the insulin with no locking mechanism to secure it. then balance the cartridge on its thin base, get the needle just right, withdraw air?? Then insert insulin. Geez, what’s with the 1970s process. And after all that, still have to prime a line and sink a site. Way too long and complicated. They need to get rid of that needle and air removal process. Whoever designed that was not a diabetic or had endless free time to changeover sites.
