Great to see him also win a cup in Colorado and the Avs have resigned him for another year. First Wings/Avs player to win a cup with each team I believe.
This guy is such a gamer dude. As an Avs fan seeing him this playoffs, dude is a puck hound and never stops moving his feet. Still at an older age he buzzes around. Perfect guy for the PK and bottom 6
@kiker0909 Couldn't agree more, you can tell it's a hockey town based on when they make some noise. Many other cities (coug Pittsburg cough) boo and cheer like a bunch of sheep listening to an NBC broadcast. Detroit fans know skill and hustle plays when they see 'em.
Bobby Orr once killed a penalty kill by himself, staying behind the goal and dodging players who went after him. Not to discredit Helm, it's tough keeping the puck away like that single-handedly, especially against the Blackhawks. That would have definitely been awesome to see in person!
Helm got like 10x better during this last offseason. His stick handling and puck protection is as good as Zetterberg almost. Paired with his insane speed, he will be a force to be reckoned with
What makes me laugh the most about this is he’s from Winnipeg like me, and as a defenseman I use to go on rushes like this and just fly down into the offensive zone, but just too distracted or uncoordinated to look up and find a passing lane well doing it. I’d end up going back and forth on the outside and winning/losing the puck back just like this 😂 It’s a Winnipeg thing. Heart over Head I guess lol
Im not taking it seriously? great shift for helm, but good players can do this and produce points. Players like Giroux, Crosby, Datysuk to name the obvious ones.
Only time I've ever seen a standing ovation on a penalty kill that didn't result in a SH goal.
Goosebumps, love the fans recognition.
Me too, love the standing ovation!
Always come back to this. Thank you Helmer for a legendary run with the Red Wings and good luck in Colorado!
He did in fact have good luck
That was the moment Darren Helm became Darren Helm. Every Red Wings fan remembers that night.
I remember his breakaway goal the most
12 years later almost to the day that this was posted Darren Helm wins the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche. What a career.
That is the definition of out-working the opposition!
This never gets old.....
Watching this as a Blackhawk fan, I even wanted to applaud the effort. Great shift.
Much respect for the comment. Love Helmer's hard work. Doesn't score many goals for us, but night in and night out, he plays tough!
Just hockey bro anyone who's a hockey fan no matter the team recognises hard graft
Darren Helm is one of my favourite Red Wings. Great shift mate.
Had Helm been healthy enough for the 2013 playoffs in second round against Chicago, Detroit might have won that series
This shift made me fall in love with helm.
Great to see him also win a cup in Colorado and the Avs have resigned him for another year. First Wings/Avs player to win a cup with each team I believe.
this shift gives me goosebumps
had to come to this clip finding out he retired today, legendary pk
nice career Darren. dont be a stranger in Detroit. you are family after all and we loved you first!
Best of luck in CO, Helmer.
Thank you for the memories.
That's why its called Hockeytown
Wow, what a shift
Happy retirement to the Gretzky of 4th liners
Detroit fans can recognize more than just goals ...

I remember watching this, I was going crazy!
Best 3rd liner
1:07 ducked right under and Campbell missed him by a mile holy hell
Helm is easily one of the most underrated players in the league, he's a huge part of the wings lineup, same goes for Abdelkader
God I love this.
Penalty Kill. 5 on 1 and they're all in the Power Play team's end.
We miss Helm. Get Healthy soon!
Happy Retirement to one of the fastest players to ever play in the NHL.
Stopped the hawks. Won the game in OT and lost the finals. So much respect from Darren Helm
I A M S P E E D
So the next day in the black hawk film room.........
Just Amazing
he just advanced the colorado avalanche to the western conference final
Incredible !
Buzzes me so hard everytime I watch it
And boy wasn't this something to recognize!
I miss this helm man
13 years later...TO THE DAY...he puts the Wings former arch rivals,in their 1st WCF since....losing in 2002 in 7 games....TO DETROIT!
hopefully he comes back for as many of those first round games against Nashville as possible!
he has been learning from the best person to play keep away.........pavel datsyuk lol
I remember watching this and going "-yeah... Yeah!... Oh Yeah!... Fuck YEAH!... WOOOW!"
Can not wait to c him back on ice
How is it that I'm just seeing this now?
Let's go Avs!
Dayum.

@instinctz1 yea, usually it is mayhem if coaches are making trades
Helm got like 10x better during this last offseason. His stick handling and puck protection is as good as Zetterberg almost. Paired with his insane speed, he will be a force to be reckoned with
Made me sad reading this
Knowing what could have been. What a shame he got his wrists slashed and he was never the same
ill miss helmer
holy shit...
The guy who had 11 more points then helm in 44 less games.
And yet people still ask Babcock if there's a possibility of Helm being traded...
Danger Zone
@Kanientakeron Im like yeah what now
what an arrogant comment. if any player on any team did something as incredible as this they'd get an ovation.
How sweet would it be if he made the goal? ^_^
I'm fairly certain all fans can. -.-
Pens should get Darren Helm, amazing fit.
Well he's on the market now.
Nah Pens shouldn't mess with their forward lines right now since they're literally perfect.
@Kanientakeron You and me both!
Nashville
You've obviously never been to a game in nashville or phoenix. Those fans don't even know the difference between icing and offsides.
Shut up, Edzo
someday you might grow up and recognize more than just points. (and my previous comment was a joke, don't take everything so damn seriously)
@martylocal87 you know what i mean.
Doesn't count. Cam Barker was out there.
But that was sweet!
@Garrick14May Me too :)
Sidney who?

Brian Campbell... you plain suck 0:28
