The fact there's so little In The Heights video essays is such a shame but that's what let me find your amazing one so easily! I know this was for an assignment but I absolutely ADORE your work here.
I can’t agree that Abuela has no resolution. Her last night alive, she finally found peace in being able to see the stars again that she longed for in her memories of Cuba. She knew that Usnavi and Sonny were going to find their home in the DR using the money she got in the lotto win. And even after her death, In Everything I Know, she was the push for Nina to go back to Stanford and continue finding herself and her purpose. And in the Finale, her mural on the grate was what made Usnavi realize that his home and purpose was in Washington Heights. For him to essentially become Abuela; to illuminate the stories of other people by providing them with advice and a home. Abuela’s arc didn’t end when she died; it was completed through the younger generation that she worked so hard to protect and provide for. Their happiness is her resolution.
This is a super valid take!! After having seen the movie and the changes they made (especially taking away the narrative power of Abuela like you talk about here), it makes me appreciate how they made Abuela’s influence key to the story in the musical.
@@emilyprins9143 Yes, I very much agree! The movie was good, and it has amazing moments, but I will always prefer the Broadway show. The amount of depth for every character, except for maybe in Sonny’s case, is unmatched.
I'm so sad that video is not longer available :( You did a great job with this video essay, I literally cried by the end! I didn't noticed that Abuela's character arch wasn't complete, I mean, I kinda sense it, but didn't quite grasp it.
wow, the clips that you used are REALLY REALLY great, its so full of emotion, is there a place where we can watch the full recording? also, GREAT VIDEO, cant believe you only have 5 subs as of now, but im calling it, once the movie comes out, this video will definitely blow up!! :)) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

With all of that being said, I loved hearing your take on the musical. It’s my favorite, and I’m glad to see any video essay of it!
