Love your talk..this coming from a senior reemerging artist..the real art market today is a dog day for artists, it's more like running a marathon race, trying to get in the front, where your blood, sweat, and tears, is just a commodity, unfortunately..
For me it was either hands on goong to openings and getting to know the people involved, this works best i believe, or se ding out cold calls and emails, dms and tags but this usually dosnt get the attention obe would like. Try getting to know anyone who works there or just casually talk to people in the wider field, eventually one person knows another and if you turn up a lot they will start to notice you and after a while you have a better chance of trying to persuade them into showi g your work, best though if another artist recomends you, this is usually how you get a show:)

One only needs one gallery to get started though, but finding 100 good ones that are close enough to be viable can be hard if not impossible, depending on where you live. I think one's best option is direct contact, going to events and getting to know the people that work there and especially the artists they represent. Artist referals are the leading cause of getting representation in my area and I would say top 5 anywhere without hesitation.
Took me 8 years almost, but went from painter to producer and opened an online art sales platform and now collaborate on artistic projects with many of the largest institutions in my country. Turned out painting wasnt as interesting for me as making art happen but Im saying you can do a lot if you put your mind to it:)
