    I have a KAC SR-15 lower with 2 uppers. One is a KAC CQB 11.5 with EoTech and G33 and RC3. The other is a KAC Carbine 14.5 with Kahles K16i and RC2. I can swap the suppressors depending on want or need. The uppers overlap enough for many rolls but work great at their intended rolls. Thats my main rig. Kinda like the military for special operations when they are issued a short upper and 14.5 upper with one lower.

    The original SEAL RECCE is pretty much the perfect setup for this kind of POU. NXS 2.5-10, high quality match barrel, mil spec receiver, bcg, G trigger. Mine with bipod and optic is maybe a pound heavier than my Mk18. Swap out the RAS for a more modern/lighter rail and you’re there. Light, very precise, no nonsense setup. Add your can and night vision accessories if wanted and done.

    Hop, you just confirmed my opinion I’ve been leaning toward for a while. That being, red dots and magnifiers are for fighting rifles and LPVOs (especially 1-10s) are for SPRs. Real scopes are for long range rifles. I’ve been drawing that conclusion because an SPR is supposed to bridge a gap between fighting and long range. The 1-10s give you a 1x, and then a longer range reticle and magnification. Not the best, but max effective range of 5.56 isn’t that far anyways. I can’t stand 1x on LPVOs for fighting rifles, I want dots. And for close range rifles (300s, MK18), I don’t think a magnifier is necessary.

    @philliplopez1501 9 місяців тому +9

    Urban? So concrete buildings, cars everywhere, gang activity, and groups of marauders kitted out similar to a SWAT team.
    So ammunition choice would tend to favor penetration characteristics.
    Longer barrel setups to achieve higher velocities needed to deal with crosswinds in a city environment.
    Lessons learned from urban combat...4x works well... red dot with magnifier works well.
    Scopes require some additional training...but come with the ability to adjust for aging eyes.
    Urban...needs to be light enough to carry/climb fences, walls, generally get up on to rooftops in a hurry.
    Lots to consider
    Best of luck
    Phil

Is there something different about 3-9x scopes compared to 2-10x or 3-12x, besides the small difference in magnification? I haven't used many scopes so maybe there's something I'm missing. If I had it to do over, I'd have built a 24" 6.5 Grendel as a SPR, stuck with a lightweight 16" 5.56 as my go-to rifle, and built out a 12.5" 6.5 Grendel as a close quarters build. As it stands, though...
    I run a 16" pencil profile lightweight build with a 1-8x LPVO and a top dot as a GPR. PEQ on a QD with an Inforce light. The Inforce isnt as good as a Surefire by any stretch... but its lighter, and easier to pull off the rifle if need be. Its also hard to beat dual output for under $150. It works well enough in close quarters, can touch 700 realistically with good ammo, and is excellent in the 25-300 range, which is where you can expect most of your engagements to take place. Best of all, it's under 8 lbs fully loaded...
    The last thing I want if I'm having to move fast in an urban setting is a 12 lb SPR on my back.
    Dont get me wrong, they have a place... I'm back and forth between Oklahoma and Tennessee a lot, so my stomping grounds are ...pretty flat. A 20" HBAR build is definitely in my arsenal. Its not my go-to, though. And neither is my 10.5" build.

      In the process of building up first arsenal. Got a ddm4v7 in 2015 but looking to add a suppressed pistol/sbr. 6.5 grendel seems to be the answer on paper but I'm scared to build because of the reliability reports of the 6.5 Grendel system. Thoughts?

    • @BuckF0eJiden
      @BuckF0eJiden 9 місяців тому +2

      @Genesis-revelation70 as long as you're getting your barrel from a reputable manufacturer, you should be fine. Go with Ballistic Advantage if you're unsure and don't want to shell out a ton of money somewhere else.
      I'd also go with the Type II Grendel and buy a high-quality bolt. The bolt lugs are longer on type II, which will help with the lugs shearing. You'll also want a high-quality bolt because the extractors are a little more thin in the Grendel/6ARC/7.62X39 ARs.
      That aside, you should have no reliability issues at all with a Grendel build. Just tune your buffer weights for proper ejection, and you're good to go.
      I prefer my ejection just a little weak at closer to 4 o'clock, but you wanna aim from somewhere between. 2 and 4, ideally.
      Polishing your feed ramp will probably help, but I've found it's not really necessary. Most of your 6.5 Grendel reliability issues come from using lower quality complete uppers without actually checking the torque on your parts. Gas blocks, gas keys etc are almost always under-torqued or not staked properly on lower quality complete uppers. Otherwise they're adequate for most people.

    Maybe an odd question but here goes. If a suppressor is not legal in your AO, what do you think about pushing the barrel to 16"/18" since you will not need to deal with the bulk/weight of a can?

    • @highdesertdrew1844
      @highdesertdrew1844 9 місяців тому +4

      a 16" with a blast diffuser or linear comp is certainly not as good as a suppressor, but it maintains the SAWC, retains the velocity, and does all the important things. This was my solution.

    • @benb50001
      @benb50001 9 місяців тому +9

      I think accomodating a suppressor is the main reason for wanting the shorter barrel. If that isn't a factor, I think the extra velocity is worth it.

      the UPR is easier to shoot, because it was built for long range. The 308s we had were all in BR configuration. So easier for wind, but I found a bit harder to shoot.
      End results, the UPRs were the most accurate combo that day.

    My "do-it-all" rifle is a 14.5 Geissele Super Duty upper (only $840 for complete upper WITH REBCG/Airborne charging handle & Surefire flash hider with pin/weld ALL INCLUDED on black friday, deal of the century) on my old Colt lower with an SSA-E and ambi controls with a Super 42/H2.
    Vortex Viper PST GenII 1-6x, Offset enclosed emitter 509T, Cloud defensive Rein 3.0 light, BCM angled foregrip angled forward, and a Vickers sling. And my Mini RC2 suppressor.
    I chose the 1-6x PST because for the $500 i payed i believe it is the best bang for the buck LPVO thats daylight bright, and since i truly believe the vast majority of fights will be like, within 100 yds, i prioritized that great 1x and daylight bright reticle, but the glass is great and i have that bit of extra capability to zoom up and make hits farther out IF needed. But i also live in North Idaho which is far more wooded, at least for the area that i live. especially in the outer edge of the city and around the family property which is backed up to miles and miles of national forest. I have to ability to make hits down the road leading up to the property, and across canyons and such, but if its super far im probably just bailing into the trees and setting up an ambush if anyone tries to follow. Or im sneaking closer to inside my 400yd very comfortable range IF needed... Mabey down the road i go more magnification But for now im happy.
    Rifle does absolutely everything i could ever want or need, especially to the 400yds that was my intended range of comfortable capability i wanted. and it will be my main squeeze for many years to come.
    I mean. Ive shot it out to 550-600yds but honestly in reality targets are never fully exposed and thats a very far poke. If its 600yds im just gonna bail, they aint gonna hit me when im dodging, ducking, dipping, diving, and dodging at that range. 400yds i am very confident and competent.
    As a side note. I am also very happy with the AAC ammo. Ive grabbed 3.5k of the 77gr OTMs and they shoot more or less 1MOA, but my main "duty ammo" are 77gr Razorcore and 75gr speer Gold Dot JSPs, i have 1.5k of each put aside for the struggles to come.😂

    Your rail is fine lol. What you can do tho is just throw on a Trex Arms light bar to push your light out farther for less shadow from the suppressor, but theres no REASON to waste cash on a new rail for no additional capability whatsoever, and just more weight.
    Nutnfancy SAWC would approve of your little baby rail 😂
