That is the same thing the old folks said when they heard NGR for the first time. My family has been friends with the Burch family for decades. I will always love this kind of music over the crap that is billed as country music this day and age.
Saw these guys from the very beginning in Louisville Ky.The absolute best New Grass..Bought my son all their records to learn the licks and appreciate the music.
Gotta say, favorite part was Pat Flynn flying out of the gate with that scorching solo. John had that yeowzers look on his face. As for everything else - perfect.
Only got to see them once in 1989, but man, what a band! It's too bad their personal conflicts couldn't be resolved. I'm ready for a New Grass Reunion!
This song by Van Zandt put the energy into this performance. Going out on the highway myself. At 77 seeing a Freightliner may give me a way to die without b.s. nursing homes.. What really was Townes thinking?
Here's one for the die hard bluegrass fans, there was a band named the new tradition and at one point they hired a lead singer name Ray Caldwell, Richie Dotson played banjo, Ken white guitar, and Danny Roberts on mandolin. At that point they were New grass reborn. Ray's vocals we're identical to John's and the rest of the band was on point! New grass revival is iconic.
I taped it around that same time too! But on a cassette tape recorder sitting next to the tv, we didn't have a VCR yet haha! I listened to that cassette in my car until the tape finally broke! Man they were/are awesome!
One of the best that I have seen or ever did see live every time, and just a great bunch of musicians and gentlemen that I had the pleasure of meeting.
The closest they got was when Bela and Sam joined the Doobie Brothers at the Music City Roots (John is one of them now). In fact, John kinda seems really, really at home with the Doobies.
Late 2019 still listening to this not an American as i live in SE Asia , people here don't listening this kind of music but i do coz im a cowboy chinx yeeehawww...where is my dip & moonshine
White freightliner blues I'm going out on the highway And listen to them big trucks wind I'm going out on the highway And listen to them big trucks wind Oh, white freightliner, won't you steal away my mind guitar Well, New Mexico ain't bad, Lord The people here, they treat you kind Well, New Mexico ain't bad, Lord The people here, they treat you kind Oh, white freightliner, won't you steal away my mind banjo Well, it's bad news from Houston Half my friends are dying Well, it's bad news from Houston Half my friends are dying Oh, white freightliner, won't you steal away my mind mandolin Lordy, Lord I'm gonna ramble Till I get back to where I came Lordy, Lord I'm gonna ramble Till I get back to where I came Till that white freightliner's gonna haul away my brain
Génial ! T'as de la chance. J'ai vu Sam Bush et John Cowan vers les années 2000 en Californie, et j'ai vu Béla Fleck avec les Flecktones et autres plus tard. Je ne les ai jamais vu tous ensemble :(
partied with these guys at joe tripps in pensacola. they played the niceville mullet fest that weekend. Sam bush could smoke you out of weed and play his ass off. bela was quiet and aloof.pat also very nice guy the same with john. I wish they would have stayed together a little longer.
These guys were fricking amazing live, fun and just damn good. Flynn, Bush and Fleck tearing up the strings Cowan too. Then Cowan would hold those high notes seeming like forever, OMG! Practically threw myself at the stage a few times. My guy was an exceptional player so I didn't :D
how the hell can anybody listen to modern ' country' music after hearing this kind of talent, harmony, and energy? NO comparison!
×2
"Country" music has become rock music. Hell, Ozzy Osbourne could be a country musician today. Bluegrass music is the real country music now.
Such fact
That is the same thing the old folks said when they heard NGR for the first time. My family has been friends with the Burch family for decades. I will always love this kind of music over the crap that is billed as country music this day and age.
@@mdhbigdog
No ots become pop music, basically nicky Minaj with a fake twang.
I do not know why, but this was the ear worm I woke up with today.
So happy I took to UA-cam to find it.
Incredible talented gifted virtuosos.
Cut my teeth and learned a few things back in the day with these fellows!
Every time John Cowan and Sam bush sing together, an angel gets its' wings.
Bluegrass is the punk rock of country music. Raw high energy masterpiece right here
I love that!
It makes my hair stand up to see the great talent at work
That break on the acoustic guitar by Pat Flynn (0:40 - 052) was as good as it gets and he made it look effortless!
That's the best break I've ever heard on this song! Wow!
REAL BLUE GRASS ! bring it back like more like that 👍😁♥️🕊✝️♥️
Saw these guys from the very beginning in Louisville Ky.The absolute best New Grass..Bought my son all their records to learn the licks and appreciate the music.
Gotta say, favorite part was Pat Flynn flying out of the gate with that scorching solo. John had that yeowzers look on his face. As for everything else - perfect.
Pat Flynn is a badass. People forget about this group. John Cowan is a hell of a vocalist and, of course, we know about Sammy and Bela :)
Calling NGR "just a bluegrass band" like a friend of mine did is like calling Queen "just a rock band". They're so much more.
dorkandproudofit 4 of the best at what they do. Glad they found each other if only for a short time.
Much more talented than Queen.
Okay, there's 12 folks on here that should go see a shrink. Best band ever. Sam Bush is the King
I must be one of them! These guys, and some others wrecked a great song originally written and performed by Townes Van Zandt by using 'hot rod' riffs.
Sam Bush is still my hero. That dude brings it every time he picks up an instrument.
Imagine if we got a reunion of these four. Unbelievable
Only got to see them once in 1989, but man, what a band! It's too bad their personal conflicts couldn't be resolved. I'm ready for a New Grass Reunion!
This stuff they play today cannot compare to talent like this, grew up with bluegrass & The Beatles!! Peace & Love
leur concert à Toulouse (dans les années '80) est inoubliable ! unforgottable ! unvergesslich ! exactement like this Stueck.
This song by Van Zandt put the energy into this performance. Going out on the highway myself. At 77 seeing a Freightliner may give me a way to die without b.s. nursing homes.. What really was Townes thinking?
Just fantastic! Saw them once - Top top peeps!!!

I taped this off Austin City Limits back in 83 or so and mustve watched it a hundred times. Killing. My band pays homage to them everytime we do this!

Hot damn.
Boys, get back together and tour!!!
The closest they got was when Bela and Sam joined the Doobie Brothers at the Music City Roots (John is one of them now). In fact, John kinda seems really, really at home with the Doobies.
Best new grass band EVER!

Courtney seems so relaxed when he plays. Great video.
It is Bela in this video, not Courtney, but Courtney was a great banjo player too!
Ha! I must have been hacked because I didn't write that. Lol
Amazing! Just bloody amazing!
It doesn't get any better than this!!!!!!!
I've listened to this many, many times. It always forces me to grin, it is the happiest music in the world. Badass players!

Those Bluegass flat pickers are awesome!
Townes Van Zandt wants to thank you boys and so do I. This was a great Bluegrass Band for sure.
How could you possibly dislike this??
Wow……..just wow.
Musicianship par excellence! About the best I've seen. Thanks.
Some of the best music I've heard in bluegrass! Totally awesome! Love that bandjo player. Love Jerry Donglas. Sam bush. Tony Rice
NGR is to bluegrass what Queen is to rock. They are to bluegrass what Iron Maiden are to metal. They are, simply put, legends.
What an inspiration to all
up and coming puppy Dawgs!
Banjoistically yours,
Jon Eric

Génial ! T'as de la chance. J'ai vu Sam Bush et John Cowan vers les années 2000 en Californie, et j'ai vu Béla Fleck avec les Flecktones et autres plus tard. Je ne les ai jamais vu tous ensemble :(

Masters of their instruments. Boys, here's how you play music- Thus endeth the lesson for today.
I'm not even a "fan" of Bela's per se, but his banjo playing always sounds great to me!
partied with these guys at joe tripps in pensacola. they played the niceville mullet fest that weekend. Sam bush could smoke you out of weed and play his ass off. bela was quiet and aloof.pat also very nice guy the same with john. I wish they would have stayed together a little longer.
Before their time, awesome stuff
Pat is a great picker!
