  • The rebuild of the Frongeye's distributor runs into a bit of a challenge. Will the internals of a 25D distributor fit in the casing of a DM2 distributor? Watch to find out!
I found this ‪@KingTriangleCat‬ video very helpful while figuring out how to put the distributor back together... • Assembling a Lucas 25D...
Just a quick disclaimer... this may not be the "correct" way to do this job but it's how I did it with what resources I have on hand.

great breakdown of a distributor, excellent example for the rest of us facing this task. And I now have 2 Econobox garage t-shirts, they're quite good quality! thanks!

Another great video, Ian! I don’t think I’ve ever taken a distributor completely apart before. Murphy sneaked into the Econobox Garage with that little screw in the distributor body, didn’t he?

Thanks Joel. I once read a book about Murphy and the closing statement read "Murphy was an optimist" :)

Ian, did you inspect the distributor drive shaft. It's easy enough to remove. I had a lot of rotational play in the rotor (and noise when running). I had installed a Pertronix system so it ran well, it compensated for the excess play I think. I decided to check the dizzy drive shaft and found the gear that meshes with the camshaft was worn razor thin, the obvious cause of the excessive play. I happened to have a spare and popped that in. No more noise.

Hi Tim. I did a quick check and didn't find any excessive wear or free play.

    Looking good Ian!
Two things that popped into my head watching this video… 1) you use these as your second brain - meaning you were mentioning to yourself about the spring location… you were talking to yourself in the future when you go back and watch this video on your second brain… I do that but not as intentionally.
    2) one of the best cleaning tools I have is my Dremel rotary tool with a wire brush - steel or brass brush. I also use my Dremel mounted in the vise using a Luthier tool from StewMac. Google search StewMac Anchor for Dremel. Basically you mount your Dremel into this adapter which then gets mounted into your bench vise so you have both hands free to control the angle and pressure on what you are cleaning.

Thanks for this Bill. I'll check out that Dremel accessory!
