Lifelong resident of Wisconsin here. Public land in Wisco will be VERY difficult either bow or gun season. It is hunted VERY hard during both but it can be done successfully and there are big bucks to be had. Hopefully this experience hasn't spoiled your desire to try Wisconsin in the future. Consider yourself very lucky to be granted permission on that private land as very few people will allow hunting on their land. Best of luck to you on your next Wisconsin adventure.
Thanks for watching. I am used to public land pressure and it’s all part of the experience and makes it that much more enjoyable when it all comes together. I definitely haven’t crossed it off and really enjoyed the challenge of it.
Yea it’s unfortunate that it’s so common. Hunting can be a bit messy at times and all we can do is try our best to take ethical shots and make the right choices with the situation at hand. Thanks for watching.
I know what you are saying. I live in Ohio and they drive deer like that here too. I find deer that are shot up every year. I will not shoot at a running deer. I have a lot of respect for you for doing the humane thing and putting that deer out of its misery. Thanks for educating the public on the reality of hunting ethics and the respect we have for the animals. Trump 2024!
I love these animals, as much as I like to hunt them, enjoy watching them and being still in nature. Nothing but respect for them. Thanks for watching!
I have been hunting that public for 40 years ( even before the easement, had to take a boat down river). Had two guys from Georgia bow hunting next to me on public 10 miles from you two weeks before your trip. Long drive to hunt on public with alot of pressure. I guess I guy could get lucky. Good luck next year.
You tagged a deer. Nice! Drives work both ways. With sitting, those drives and missed shots will put deer right in your lap. Sometimes I sit waiting for those to happen. Time to wake up! Next trip have to experience the drive.
Yup Welcome to Wisconsin. First time watching you. Glad to see someone who says Public land actually hunting nondraw open public land. To many UA-camers say Public Land and there hunting. Land Trust. Conservancy. And even Parks usually closed to hunting. But open up areas occasionally to control the heard.
Yea I’m pretty opportunistic when it comes to hunting land. I’ve killed my biggest two deer on public and both were deep where I had to quarter and pack them out. I got nothing against private or trust or whatever has the deer but it usually ends up public for me. Was glad to get to hunt the private 10 acres as well. Thanks for watching.
Kudos to you for being an ethical hunter. Ive done the same thing with a small 4 point that somebody shot in the back leg. Freaking idiots piss me off.
I had to when I saw her. I think she would’ve lived a couple days, no vitals had been hit. Glad I was in the right place at the right time. Thanks for watching!
Id recomend going lil farther north in wisconsin u ever wanna come again hit me up i got lots of good public land bucks and have alot of differnt public land spots
Being a lifelong resident of Wisconsin, I can attest that the gun season sucks. It is nothing but a crap shoot. Too many people out there desperate to shoot something. Stick to bowhunting it is a lot better. Or wait until after the 9 day gun season and go muzzleloader hunting. I have shot some of my biggest bucks during the muzzleloader season and I see probably ten times more deer than the regular gun season. Most idiots are out of the woods after Thanksgiving.
Good to know. I'll probably pass on gun season next time but figured I'd give it a try while I was there. I don't own a muzzle loader but I'll have to look into it
Great video. Hunt where you can. Life long resident of Wisconsin and I also cannot stand deer drives for the same reason that you had to shoot that doe. Come back anytime but definitely stick with archery season.
New subscriber here great video brother! I travel all over for work I see a good bit of the country I hope to do that as well id love to hunt Wisconsin sometime!
BRAVO!!! Refreshing to see an ETHICAL Hunter now days. I own 50 acres in ohio and would let this man hunt for free. We all are looking for Mr Monster!! But rarely do I see or hear of this. This act of harvest should be the utmost importance but sadly it is not. What a shame. If you would reply maybe your next hunt could be in ohio. Thank you again sir !!
Wounded deer is a part of hunting. The percentages may vary, but it happens every where. Just do your best to make a clean kill. You are young and maybe never wounded a deer, but if you ever missed a deer, you could have woulded it instead.
I have wounded many deer and mistakes happen especially when it comes to bowhunting. I understand drives are very effective to harvesting game quickly but it is very hard to make a quality and ethical shot at a running animal.
Be very careful walking through the woods out here in WI. 3 weeks ago I tore my ACL on the right leg. Can't field dress. Still can hardly put any pressure on the right leg. Tripped on one of those damn vines. BTW What camera are you using! Nice pics. Drives: Jefferson County outside (north) of Evansville, WI Unfortunately, they do drives on a farmer's land that my blind faces. The day they do the drives I will not hunt that day. Someone will get hurt or die the way they do it. One person in each corner of the field and the field is 430 sq yards. They are using shotgun and .308. Around the field is where the guys are doing the walking through the woods to spook the deer into running into the field. After they are done they will BBQ (and several beers) then start shooting off tannerite and misc objects one year we hear full auto being used. I already witnessed a deer shot from 300+ yards from a guy's blind there. The first shot missed and sorta spooked the deer the second shot the deer went down but was in obvious distress until he finally walked over to it, 10 minutes later, and finished it off with another shot. I just can't stand to see a deer jumping all over and obviously crying in pain. It started out where the farmer only let the one guy hunt then that guy let his buddy come who let HIS buddy come. Last drive they had 12 people out there. It is getting way outta hand and they will shoot at anything that walks/runs. One day the police and coroner will be out there and only THAT will put an end to this BS.
Sorry to hear about the ACL that's unfortunate. Your experiences definitely hit the nail on the head. I'm sure some people do drives safely and well but its the careless ones that are worrisome. I've been a part of a dog drive down here in Georgia and shot 4 deer with buck shot in less than 30 seconds. It was a well coordinated effort at a friends club with a safety briefing at the beginning. People are spread out far enough for safety and the dogs do the work. Just keep an eye out for the dogs and let the 12 gauge do the rest. The drive in Wisconsin seemed very accident prone.
I live in sc and I will never go hunting up north in rifle season again. 😂 I left the second morning in Ohio. So different from where I hunt be lucky to see someone park within a mile of you here on public.
Yeah it’s definitely different. Gun season down here is so long and the public gets pounded that first weekend and then the pressure seems to steadily go down.
I've never hunted up north as you say, but watching these UA-cam videos makes me glad I don't. I hunt in the northern KY area on private land. Hill country and my cattle farm. I've gotten to the point where I don't hunt opening weekend of rifle season except a couple spots on my farm. Too many people shooting, and I like to hunt when it's nice and quiet. I can't imagine doing a deer drive with people shooting everywhere.
@@danielherring9324 sc season starts gun august 15th to January 1st in most of the state. Our deer are so spooked it’s crazy. Luckily people quit going once the cold weather hits and deer start coming back in.
@brian5148 That's crazy for a gun season. Ours is only 16 days. I imagine it could be very hard to even get a deer in high-pressure areas with that long of a gun season. I prefer hunting when colder. I process everything myself with the help of my wife. It's always better when cold, and we can let them hang for a few days if need be.
@@HuntSoloPublic haha it's just different I thought the video was going to be you ducking behind a log due to being in a drive and no one has any clue you are there. Hope you enjoyed your hunt, but your video presents one problem I have as a Wisconsin resident hunter. You are able to come here buy over the counter tag for $160 and got permission on a small piece of private land. Even if a deer drive ruined your hunt, consider yourself lucky to come here without having to draw a tag and spend $500 like other midwest states. Yea I’m not buying the whole “let’s restrict non residents” it works for you if you never plan to hunt in a different state. I’m also fine with lottery drawings and think that positively affects the quality of the experience. I knew the low tag costs and low barrier for entry would mean more pressure and I don’t mind hunting pressure. 10 acres of private land was nice but my experience goes to show it’s not always better. I have had similar experiences on public land and it’s part of the deal when you sign up for it. Thanks for expressing your opinion and watching.
