    There was a time ... ancient thought it was ... when a physical trip to the public library was needed just to get basic information ... these days, videos such as this one routinely convey, cumulatively, millions of hours of experience, little tidbits people pick up, and other priceless gems that save up and coming (7+ years using Blender full time and I barely consider myself a novice) students of the trade countless hours moving forward. Nearly every video contains at least something that is priceless. Some contain many things. Creating these things is not fast or easy in most cases. The effort is appreciated, to say the very least.

    By plugging a voronoi texture into the emission texture you can get a cool look that adds more colour to your lights.

  • @paulatreides6711
    @paulatreides6711 3 роки тому +5

    a good thing about octane ,is that you don't need to subdivide ..it just works like that since it's voxel based or something ..i hope they will bring that up into cycles or eevee as well !

    • @Urheimat9
      @Urheimat9 3 роки тому +4

      Not so much that it's voxel based, it basically just fakes it with a form of parallax mapping with edge displacement. But yeah would be sweet to have that in blender. There is a free octane version for blender, but it's several versions behind and generally just pretty crap compared to the c4d plugin.

    • @paulatreides1354
      @paulatreides1354 3 роки тому +1

      @@Urheimat9 yeah ..i didn't know how to explain it ..well..i didn't know how it works actually haha ..thanks for the info ,but i agree , i come from c4d and now i'm on blender since more than one year ,i love it .but the octane plugin. i agree it kinda sucks ..it's not really well integrated with blender's functionalities

    • @Urheimat9
      @Urheimat9 3 роки тому +2

      @@paulatreides1354 the shoddy integration sucks. plus the fact that since you're not using a PLUGIN like you are with CD4 (which is always going to be compatible with a few versions ahead) but are actually using a specialized build of blender that you have to install separately, means you're stuck on that blender version until OTOY decides to put out a new 'octane edition' of blender. It's just ridiculous lol, i really wish someone would make an octane killer already.

    • @paulatreides1354
      @paulatreides1354 3 роки тому +1

      @@Urheimat9 oh yeah that's right it's a special build ( i keep calling it plugin for some reason ) yeah problem with the server , no octane scatter ( it uses teh blender particles , but i'm not a fan of it ,less parameters ) ..i already asked to the guy who is responsible of the c4d plugin if he could work for the blender one ..but he said ..no haha ! he wants to work with only one software..and yeah i agree with you 100%

    I'm rendering this in 4K with 2.93.0 Alpha on a 3090 and get massive memory leaks for an animation, causing some Optix Error. Only way for me to render it somewhat stable is with the CPU but the render times are pretty painful even with a good CPU. Just putting this out here in case anyone else have similar problems with adaptive subdivision.
    Great tutorial however! Very easy to follow and I appreiciate the time stamps!

    • @StevenScott_studio53
      @StevenScott_studio53  3 роки тому

      strange, does sound like a memory leak could be a render bug, because I can get ""decent"" render times just using the 780ti

    Great tutorial as always! Yesterday, I tried it and it worked great with one exception: I tried to use it on a cube rather than a plane and the displacement worked on the top and the bottom side of the cube only. On the sides, there were lines only. Is there an easy way to fix that? Thank you!

    • @StevenScott_studio53

      it might just be the display viewport not showing the displacement hit f12 and render a frame does it show up then ?

  • @matthewmassey2333

    I'm still new to blender and learning but I had a question I was hoping someone could answer just to see if I understand this correctly. Using bump in the node system whenever you download say a PBR texture gives the illusion of displacement. But In order to actually displace say a plan There has to be enough geometry just like sculpting? Does this mean that every height map that comes with a PBR texture has the capability to fully displace the surface if it has enough geometry? Hope this is not too long winded, no question is a dumb question 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @lukasbieri
      @lukasbieri 2 роки тому +1

      Hi! Very short answer: Yes, you’re correct with all of that. You need geometry of a certain resolution/density to be able to displace it properly using displacement maps. And yes, you can use height maps that come with materials to do that. The easiest way to have dense enough geometry without having to subdivide your mesh a ton is using adaptive subdivision, which is demonstrated in this video. Hope this helps :)

  • @Blendercage
    @Blendercage 2 роки тому

    When I render out the image, it is flat. There’s a little height info like you plugged the texture to a bump node and into the normal, but no displacement no matter how high I set my scales.
