The sickening way so many adult men blamed her, a small child, for the way her body made them feel! And her performances were all coached by equally sickening men. Breaks my heart to bits.
@@Tvoyiamama it’s a conspiracy theory. The men who abused her and talked disgustingly about her were pedophiles, most likely a cult had nothing to do with it.
I never knew what Shirley Temple looked like as a teen/adult. She was very beautiful. I find it so disgusting how much women are abused in the industry. She did not deserve that.
No woman deserves that - no child deserves that. The people who made the Baby Burlesque shows were perverts. Decades ago I was walking in NYC on a Sunday and there was a very sexually seductive picture of a very young child on the cover of a music album. I wanted to smash in the widow and tear up the cover. (At the time I worked for Child Protective Services) We seem to "look away"from obvious sexual abuse themes re young children. Brook Shields when she was age 10 (thanks to her sick mother) Wasn't surprised that she suffered Post partum depression after the birth of her child. Look how Jeffrey Epstein got away with sexual perversion of young girls for decades. (How many famous people in the arts, business, politics etc participated)
IKR Back then she probably had to follow more rules because women were more "proper" back then, especially actresses. If I was her, I would have been hitting those creeps with my parisol but I'm glad I didn't live back then
That's probably where the rumor started & the Vatican having to check her body to find out...eek. this girl was a victim of exploitation, but somehow came out of it & I'd hope ppl remember her for the holesome joy she gave others
What Disney, Nick, etc doing to kids is what exactly what Shirley Temple experienced. This is still happening today. Folks with power are still getting away with it. That's why Hollywood will always be Hollyweird. Thank you for doing this video. This story is too hard for me to watch. It's sad. I'm glad that she lived to tell her truth and she lived her life after she left the entertainment industry. RIP Shirley Temple.
It absolutely NEVER occurred to me that Shirley lived on to be an adult. Ive watched her films since I was very young and I always believed that she must have died young. Somehow, I couldn’t imagine how her soul would NOT be suspended at that age.
I don't think people realize that all this type of extortion of children has been happening since decades ago. People where just more quiet about it back then. Thank you Sloan for bringing awareness to this. 🙏
But he’s not exposing who is doing it. Same people involved in enslaving Britney. They’re all cousins with Epstein, Weinstein, Polanski, and Woody Allen. They’re all members of the same cult. Sloan can’t see what’s obvious and neither can any of you. Someone tried to stop this in the 1930s.
*You missed a few connecting details in Shirley’s MGM visit.* The part she was “auditioning for” at MGM, with Arthur Freed-was actually *FOR* the role of Dorothy, in *wizard of oz!!!!* The only reason she *didn’t* get the role as Dorothy, is literally because Arthur was *INFURIATED* when he exposed himself and she started nervously giggling! She told the whole horrifying story in detail, when she was a guest on (I think it was Larry king’s…) talk show. *Basically the TL;DR of the story is this…* Shirley and her mother were separated from each other immediately after arriving to MGM studios. Her mom was taken to one office and Shirley was taken to Arthur’s office- where he promptly tried to use the “casting couch” with her. Within a few minutes of the giggling incident happening- she and her mom were escorted out. When they got to their car, Shirley started crying and told her mom what happened in the room …and how did that b i t c h respond to her little girl telling her something horrible like that…? _SHE STARTED LAUGHING_ and said; *”if you think THAT was bad-you don’t even want to know what was happening in the room I was in!!!”* She just laughed it off like a big joke and basically told Shirley to “get used to it”…. *I truly despise the entertainment industry and the repugnant stage parents that will do/allow anything to happen to their children- for money...* 🤬
thank you for clarifying that. it makes a whole lot of sense why her money was gone then. she trusted her parents and they failed her in every single way. she deserved so much better and her mother just let it happen. especially as a father, knowing grown men are lusting over his baby girl, is absolutely repulsive. but i guess the money to them was worth more than their child’s innocence and any real attempt at a childhood.
I heard that she didn't get the part of Dorothy because the studio that she was with (the studio system) refused to lend her out so that she could do it.
On the contrary, I think it's not just the mom's reaction that's questionable. I think her minizing and rationalising reflect's how society treated women back then. I think the mom was propositioned too in the worse and when hearing her child was presented that way made her think, "Well, at least you aren't almost r*ped and just flashed... Well Hollywood."
I grew up watching Shirley Temple’s movies and as a kid I never fully understood how inappropriate they were. I always thought she was so cute and talented and in a way I wanted to sing and dance like her. Thanks for making this video because I now have a new found respect for her story beyond my childhood memories.
Been looking forward to this one! The original child star who went through so much trauma and abuse especially in a time where child labour laws weren’t really a thing.
I don't like that Sloan used "tragic life" to describe Shirley's life because she would NEVER have accepted that description of her life. She felt blessed and she used her privilege and fame to not only help the USA but to help people around the world. She was a hero, not some 'tragic life' story.
@@thornyback her life was completely tragic. We aren't speaking from her perspective. We're speaking from strangers perspective of seeing her be used and abused.
@@thornyback most kids don’t know theyre taken advantage of, it’s definitely tragic that grown men made her dress up in skimpy clothes and touch then just bc she didnt know what was going on doesnt mean its not tragic
@Thornback, I agree. I grew up reading about her life and hearing her speak about it in interviews. She always claims she was blesses and had a great time. I think the bad things that happened to her made her tougher. If she didn't experience all that she did she wouldn't be who she came to be.
Would love a video on Drew Barrymore. Beginning as a child star she's been through so, so much, many adults wouldn't know how to get through it all. There were ups & downs that are relatable. She really put in work to find herself & the reward is amazing. She's such a kind loving woman her growth is inspirational.
The part you said you weren’t sure what the guy was trying to say, something about her childhood only being skin deep etc…. He’s saying she’s a grown woman in every way accept to look at her age/baby face. He’s saying she knowingly casts her eyes on men and dances a certain way to entice them… that she’s a grown woman seductress in a child’s body. It’s disgusting. The dude that wrote that should have been investigated for being a predator as well. If he’s publishing stuff like that, he obviously sees nothing wrong with sexualizing children and acting like it’s a positive thing, and if he’s doing that so openly in his writing, wth is he doing privately?? Ugh.
Sarah Pace Sings Idk. It’s hard to imagine that would be acceptable at ANY time in America. Did people think it was cute?? What were these parents thinking?? And they full on kissed each other in the mouth…. That part really disturbed me, because it looked like they were directed to try to make it look “passionate” other than just an innocent thing kids would do. Ugh.
Yes please do a whole show on the early childhood stars through the years!! Drew, Judy, and even Tatum and Reese!!! Growing up my parents loved scandal sheets (tabloids) and I was literally raised on E! so we've always kept up with our favorites as a family interest. Its so haunting and astounding what was allowed.
omg I was so excited to watch this. I was obsessed with Shirley Temple as a kid. I watched her movies over and over! Shirley was absolutely amazing and it makes me sick to find out about all the horrible trauma she had to endure with that gorgeous smile and shining spirit she had. Truly iconic and the way she carried herself through it all is the definition of inspirational!
What was done to this poor little girl is just beyond sickening. When you read out the except about how she kneed that guy in the balls I actually cheered I was so relieved. It's almost unbelievable that she grew into such a strong and confident woman. A true inspiration.
@Jasmine N. There's also the teenagers below eighteen who's parents run their accounts, makes them create often inappropriate content and even manages everything behind the scenes. From tik tok, to Instagram and so on. Danielle Cohn is a good example.
Oh! It's amazing that you're covering this woman and her story. My grandmother actually taught me just how tragic her life and career had been, and a coupe years ago I saw a documentary. Child stars aulways get the short stick.
Props to your grandmother for seeing another side 💕 it's not easy when you see it first hand to change your perspective so drastically. Shirley temples are my fave but I no longer order them as Shirley didn't even like it. I wish they would change the name of the drink in recognition of what she deserved from day one
Sloan, I almost didn't watch this because so many people have done Shirley Temple "deep dives" and they all leave me wanting more. THANK YOU FOR ACTUALLY DIVING INTO THE BURLESQUE BABY SHORT FILMS!!! This is SO disturbing, thank you for shining a more informative light on it. Love you and your work!!!
The information that was missing though is the reference to the original work that the baby-burlesque shorts were copying and to put them into the zeitgeist of the moment. When reviewing history we cannot remove events from the atmosphere and culture in which they took place. This is a time when kids were commonly put to use. Contraception was not common and people had more kids than they could feed so abuse was very common and kids were expected to contribute from a very young age. My grandfather born in 1910 was sent away at the age of 7 to work for his own food on the next farm. Imagine sending your child away at 7 to work for food. Beyond horrible! But that was the hard reality of life back then.
There are some biographies written on her, I've read a few. they all go into depth about her, perhaps you could find some at a library if you're still looking for more information.
It is agreed that the BABY BURLESQUE films were made in questionable taste. But they were the training ground for Shirley. The degree of "abuse" may be a relative thing taken on an individual case. The most obvious one was in KID IN AFRICA where a wire was used to make a group of Black kids fall down after they couldn't coordinate in unison. Their legs were cut in the process.
Can you please do one on Michael Jackson’s life as a child star too? His father was awful to him and his siblings… his life mimics Judy’s in some ways… and also Shirley! It’s crazy what these people went through and that child stars still go through this!! Thank you for your video Sloan and bringing awareness to how dark Hollywood and music industry is
So glad you talked about Shirley, I always knew that she must have endured the worst trauma, starting at 3y/o and back in the day I can't imagine how much they exploited this poor girl :(
I'm really glad that a lot of child stars are speaking out about how they were mistreated and abused. While I'm sure, at the time, there wouldn't have been laws regarding children on film sets... one would hope the adults in the situation would be more aware of the child's wellbeing. So sad. Those baby burlesque films are something else. Would love to hear about Judy Garland - I don't think I know her story.
I was getting to leave this comment! Judy Garland performed on stage since she was like 3 and her first film when she was 13. If you ever want to cry over a tragic life story read Judy Garlands wiki page.
@@kaileygiles7486 ..not really children are still being sa so much. Hollywood is a cesspool of creeps, rapist and pedophiles still terrorizing children, men and women. Especially in the music business too.
It's an old practice. Even before the movies, families did provide their children as laborers and took their earnings. That happened to Walt Disney when he had a Paper Route in Kansas City. But at the time of Shirley Temple, there was a Depression on and jobs were scarce. So if a family had a kid that the movie studios were interested in, they saw this as a source of income. In so many other cases, the parents did exploit the child by living off its earnings. So the blame of exploitation cannot be placed solely on the studios, but on the parents who used their children as a source of income whether or not they could work. And in some cases they used this as an excuse not to work.
Shirley deserved a much better childhood than the one she got because no child deserves to be seen as anything sexual. I find that creepy and weird. They should be allowed to be kids and live normal lives
Child stars' abuse and trauma seems to be a pattern in Hollywood, and what's sad is that it still happens to this day :/ Once parents get their child into the entertainment industry, most of them stop caring about their well-being... I will never fathom how can a family depend financially on a CHILD. After all she's been put through, I'm glad Shirley was able to not fall into depression and lived the rest of her life away from Hollywood. PS. I'd like to watch a video about Judy Garland, but maybe after that you'd like to talk about Jackie Coogan too, Sloan? :) His situation is similar to Shirley's - his mother and step-father spend his money on expensive things, so he sued them and won. Because of him, the Coogan Act was enacted.
I can't believe this!!!!!!!! How disgusting and immoral this is for Shirley!!!!! It is incredible that during those times immorality existed when it should have been eliminated completely!!!!!
I wish the Coogan act would also ban stylists in Hollywood from dressing kids like adults - like millie Bobby brown, I always felt that her outfits, were one reason why she got such sexualized comments. But her and so many other kids/teens in Hollywood, when people call their stylists out for making these kids and teens look like adults, they see it as a form of "bullying" because they don’t know any better, as it has been drilled into their heads to think that it's ok for the stylist to make them look older than what they are...
I used to watch all of her shows on tapes every morning as a kid before going to school. It looked so innocent as a kid, not understanding what I'm watching half the time. But now. Realizing how she really struggled on that set like a lot of child actors ruins the little good parts of my childhood I remember. Now I just feel guilty I was a part of this. It actually makes me want to cry since I have a baby girl now and I could NEVER as a parent let my kid do THIS. Also with the wizard of Oz, I remember watching that on tapes too. Ugh I hate how they treated little girls/boys back then. It's NASTY.
Great video, Sloan. It is so critical that people understand that the things that happened to Britney have been taking place for decades. Centuries, even.
I am 53 and I used to watch Shirley Temple movies all the time when I was a kid.She was an excellent dancer and her movie were sweet. I really liked Heidi because I read that book in school at the same time. She was such an amazing woman and her career as ambassador and beauty, brains and grace were inspiring.
This is the first video I'm seeing of yours. Thank you for sharing her story. It is so sad to hear what happened to her. As a child, I was always like Shirley is so cute and entertaining. Now that I'm older, it is awful to hear she was just prayed on by every single person that crossed her path including her parents. Makes total sense why she left the business as an adult. There were always power hungry people in the movie business and still are obviously. Always offering roles or stardom in exchange for something. It is disgusting and still happening. I'm glad more people are speaking out and not just letting it happen anymore.
i can't imagine growing up in the spotlight like that, surrounded by perverts and weird nasty comments in the papers by creepers in the media. it's sickening. the story of the lady who thought she stole her child's soul and wanted to harm shirley is so freaky too. people can imagine anything and try to harm you over things they make up and believe in their heads. her own family stole from her. she was my fave child actress i grew up on her movies. it's sad to learn about what went on behind the scenes.
To be honest I’ve never heard about anything that happened with Judy garland but I grew up watching that movie all the time with my mom because she loved it, it’s truly a classic and I’d love to learn more about her situation too
Shirley temple is literally my childhood and idol she inspired me to get into dancing at a young age and wanting to be famous and to hear she went through all this trauma and abuse at such a young age broke my soul💔
My grandmother and I loved Shirley Temple. She had all her movies on VHS, and I watched them with her often when I was little. Shirley’s death felt like losing someone special to me, and my grandmother felt the same way. I had no idea that she went through all this horrific stuff when she was just a kid.
THEY DELETED YOUR IG!? 😤🤯😤🤯 DONT let this stop you or get you down! It goes to show that you’re very accurate with what you say and that’s why they’re trying to silence you but don’t let them! Keep posting on UA-cam! You got a strong team behind you and we love you Sloan✨💜 I’m rooting for you and hope you get your IG page back ...
I use to love Shirley Temple and watched most of her movies numerous times when I was a child. So many child actors were treated as money making machines and not children. Julie Gardner and Natalie Wood were also very abused. I love that you are making videos about these child stars from so long ago, I hope to see more. Thank you.
I used to watch Shirley temple as a kid, I imagine because it was a show my nanny watched in the 20’s and 30’s, so she passed it to my mom and her me. The only Shirley temple song I remember is “animal crackers in my soup”, lions and tigers loop the loop ❤️ I liked the video, and I do want you to do Judy Garland in the future. As someone else said, make sure if you do happen to do a Judy garland video to be extra meticulous, as there’s a lot of mixed up stories out there (which is unfortunately what happens when you’re a huge actress in a time before fact checking was instantly available through the internet)
"Adult emotions of love and grief glissade across the mask of childhood, a childhood skin-deep." No. She is a child. She was an actress that was abused and taught to do and say what she was told or be punished. Predators always love to tell us "you are mature for your age" when we are just children. It is what we want to hear when we are young and unable to get adults to take us seriously and predators know exactly what to do and say to manipulate that in their favor. A child is still a child even if they are "acting like an adult". They're lying to themselves as much as they are lying to the children they take advantage of because everyone knows being attracted to children and their mannerisms is wrong. They will say whatever they can to try and mask that these children are children and not objects of desire to them because of their youth and ignorance. These men are gross. Just think about all of the actors and actresses, regardless of age, that have been coaxed or threatened into silence. The industry hasn't changed. Some sets have psychologists on sets, people specifically hired to help actors with scandalous scenes and represent actors if they do not want to film them, but even then, actors are scared of being labeled as "difficult"- a label that spreads quickly to other people in the industry. Saying no, asking for changes, etc. can easily get you ousted from the stories I've read. We need change. The people at the top feel they are untouchable. Other predators seeing these people get away with things shows them that they can get away with abusing others as well. It's sick.
Well yes, it is sick. But think about all the people who have come out and exposed their äbüßers. Sure, they might get a Weinstein or R. Kelly, but there's no way it stops at one person. Someone really high up in the chain is protecting everyone and all those people are in on it.
Shirley Temple was my first special interest as a kid. I would watch all of her films over and over. My mom would do my hair like her. And she was also my introduction to true crime and child abuse advocacy. I would watch PSAs about how to identify child abuse and what to do. I was just so heartbroken hearing what she went through that I started to bring awareness and advocate for child abuse. I wish this never happened to her. She was a huge part of my childhood.
As a kid growing up I would go to my grandmother's to watch Shirley Temple. My siblings and I loved her and love watching her movies with our grandma. Those sentimental memories warm my heart and are ones I'll never forget. Breaks my heart to know what these child stars have to go through. As a mother of 2 young kids I can't imagine my kids going through what alot of these child stars had to go through. Not only my kids shouldn't have to go through that but nobody's kids should be put through those horrifying experiences. My love goes out to them and those responsible for harming and violating these young kids should be held accountable. My heart goes out to them and so appreciative and thankful for those who have stood up and spoken out against these creeps and for having a voice for those who are scared or unable to speak out. Much love sent to these young ones and whoever else are victims.
I cried watching this why am I so emotional 🙈 I remember watching all her vhs movies when I first moved to the US. I loved all her musicals. My mom also pretty much sold me out to get things and robbed me out a lot of money using manipulation knowing I loved her and would forgive her. My goodness this was horrible to hear. RIP beautiful Shirley hope your next life is full of healthy love and happiness
Yes please cover Judy Garland. Her story is so incredibly sad but she was still such a kind person. Love your videos you do amazing research Sloan, thank you. 🤗❤
Having been through sa, I guarantee that poor Shirley endured this torture as early as three years of age. The people around her saw her as nothing but a lump of usable flesh that made them money. My heart breaks for her, and I hope she found closure by fighting back in the political field.
Oh wow I love this so much! There's something for all ages. This is exactly why you're literally the very best UA-camr ever!!! You bring some fresh eyes/light on even these old issues and people that are more than worth still talking about.
Though her films were way before my time, I used to love Shirley Temple films, I remember being confused when my grandma told me Shirley was an old woman … I really believed she was still a kid like me, that is a testament to her acting and quality movies, they remain classics no matter how many years pass. It’s heartbreaking she had to go through so much horror, and yes, Baby Burlesk is extremely uncomfortable to watch.
i am so glad you decided to take a look at this story because of your work ethic. My grandma loves shirley temple and would play it for me when I was little. She got offended when I tried to tell her the truth lol she said it was an innocent show.
Thank you for making a video about this! Her and Judy Garlands story makes me so sad. All of the kids who were abused, assaulted or drugged into performing. It’s so sad. A lot of people judge them without knowing the truth.
my great grandmother was the woman who styled Shirley’s famous curls for everything! My grandfather has a few pictures of them playing as kids when she was done getting her hair done
Sloan, this is by far my favorite video you've done. I was a huge Shirley Temple fan when I was a kid, it even was my nick name when I was around 5, but Judy Garland was my #1 favorite. I wanted to be just like her. Even though I personally already know her entire story, you should tell it! I'm sure there are many people that aren't as familiar with her personal life and it's a good time of year because the holidays always make me think of her due to her version of Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas from Meet me in St. Louis and she did a Christmas Special with her kids in 1963 at her house that people could watch on YT. It even has the old commercials. The whole thing is such a wonderful time capsule, very bittersweet.
I really like that you are getting into historical characters and such. You are so good at this Sloan, I love watching your videos. You allow yourself to be so open while you discuss, and that takes a lot of strength. Thank you for all you do! And yes! would LOVE a vid on Judy Garland.
This isn't the first story I've seen on Shirley Temple. Im in my 50s and I use to b love watching these movies when I was a kid. Now looking back on it , because I was a child too I think I was being brainwashed. It's very weird. I would never put my child through this kind of treatment. I'm just happy that we have grown from this mindset. Sadly these things still happen.
Maybe talk about Aaron Carter's career/rise and fall as a child star and family troubles (he recently broke up with his fiance a few days after she gave birth for communicating with his twin sister Angel). However, there's SO MUCH to unpack with that family..
She was always one of my favorite childhood actresses. The irony of having a daughter look the same, curls and all. Watching this is heartbreaking. Such a precious soul.
Thank you, for covering this. I've been a Shirley Temple fan since childhood. While I know some things she went through, there was a lot in this video that I did not know about her. I'd like to see you cover Judy Garland as well. I know she suffered substantially throughout her life.
I have a 5 year old daughter and her father is Irish we both have curly coiley (is that how you say that? Idk lol) anyway she inherited her light blonde hair from her father but the curls from us both and I was constantly told I have a little Shirley Temple because she’s also very sassy and vibrant like Shirley (which I’m sure is the case for most happy children anyway lol) but that on top of having her beautiful curly blonde hair, I was always flattered when they tell me that because she was such a beautiful beautiful little girl…it’s just so sad everything she was put through…I look at my baby and think I could NEVER put someone so innocent and happy through anything remotely abusive or damaging to her well being…
I have this odd kinship for Shirley we share the same birthday . I loved her movies as a young girl and I remember saying in my head she' reminds me of my daughter some how I was a child. This some how brought me comfort. Never really existing much in my mother's life as a youngster. I took such comfort in her movies. I am a grown women now who went through almost dying bringing my daughter in this world literally. She has oddly resembled Shirley till about 5 years old. It's hard to explain. Also I have always just know never put a child in entertainment it spoils their innocence. Innocence should be respected and protected.
Shirley Temple being actually really responsible in politics something I could only wish to see from the ex or current actors in my country, who only see it as a popularity contest. Mad respect for her!
Thank you for this in-depth look at Shirley Temples life. I never knew any of this and I grew up loving each and every movie she made. How horrible to think she endured this kind of treatment from the beginning of her career. All the people who should have been watching out for her....failed her. So sad. Such a talented actress and a wonderful humanitarian. Would love to see a video about Judy Garland !! Thank you Sloan ! ❤
Ik my dad showed me the Shirley Temple movies when I was a kid and I became obsessed he ik different child star but he even showed me the Heidi movies and I was obsessed with those too lol
Could you do Judith Barsi some day? Her story is so tragic , but needs to be shared. She was the little girl who voiced ducky in lamb before time and the little girl on All Dogs Go To Heaven
It’s sad and unfortunate that this kind of behavior is still going on not just to child stars but adults as well… enough is enough these ppl need to be held accountable for their actions and behaviors!!!!!
I wish all these child stars Healing and peace beings this chaotic history it’s so scary. I’m glad I was protected. I’m grateful for my mother. Grateful I got told NO! I cried watching this just wana hug them all tell them love is out there. Thank you Sloan! Great content
WOW!! I had no clue that Shirley Temple had suffered through all that. That honestly breaks my heart and makes me feel so guilty for watching a few of her stuff. Honestly everything just makes me feel so sick to my stomach. It truly opens my eyes to how really bad things were during that time. Thank you so much for brining light to such disgust of that part of the world is like. Please do The Judy Garland video as she has gone through so much. I did a report on her back when I was younger and what information I did learn was absolutely horrific. Although there was so much thrown around about her as well.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We need to hear this so things hopefully don't happen again to our children. In the 60"s when I was a kid I use to watch Shirley's movies. I loved her!! I never saw that 1st show/movie you told us about. Poor kids. I would like to hear Judy's story. We need to make everyone aware that these things happen to children in showbiz and elsewhere and we need to protect them more...even if they are not ours!
I am incredibly uncomfortable with the imagery and subject matter, and I'm only a few minutes in. Absolutely insane. Thank you for covering this wildly fascinating person's life and career.
I remember back in the days. During commercials they would advertise Sherley Temple VHS videos. 😂😅 They’d be like “re-live the classics now for only $19.99. Order now! And we will include another one of her classics.” 😂
So screwed up what she went through!! Also YES to a story on Judy Garland as well. Btw, the original Wizard of Oz VHS showed a guy hanging himself in the background. I remember literally wandering what i was seeing whenever i watched it on my vcr because i loved that movie. I also remember my mom and a friend taking about it! They actually cut it out of the movie and released it without that part. It's definitely wild!
Love you Sloan! You always tell the truth behind everything! Love that you are delving into “old Hollywood”! Yes please…do tell the story of Judy Garland! Loved the Wizard of Oz and would love to hear more about what Judy went through! ❤️
I’m so glad you made this video! I grew up watching all of her work, as a kid in the 80’s. I wanted to be just like her. It’s so gross to dissect these roles now. Wow. The entire video I was wondering where her mom was during all of this. So unfortunate. I would love for you to make a Judy Garland video! ❤️
I used to watch all of Shirley Temples films when I was a child. Once i got in my 20s a UA-cam video was in my recommendeds and my innocence died. To know that she went through all that yet she still radiated on film made my heart ache. I’m so glad her story is out..

Do Natalie Wood next.
Shirley Temple was my grandpas favorite. 💔 I can’t wait to watch this one! Loading it up on my tv now!

Shirley was hard as tacks. She navigated this world of creeps, and difficulty with such Grace and strength. She was wise beyond her years.
And then went on to grow up into the ambassador of Czechoslovakia
@@sakurashy8492 and she have a well deserved Kennedy center honors , but Shirley grace and morality is beyond that
Aww how old was she during those times and what kind of parents allowed this ?
Same! I don’t know why I had it in my head that she passed very young
She died in 2014
Because she lived a quiet life
She had an amazing life! Amazing inspiring brilliant woman! Look into it.
I thought the same thing up until a few years ago. She just completely fell off the radar.
I don't think people realize that all this type of extortion of children has been happening since decades ago. People where just more quiet about it back then. Thank you Sloan for bringing awareness to this. 🙏
so sick man even like 150 years ago girls like aged 12 would be married to men 30+ its been happening for hundreds of years
Yes! Families made children keep it a secret. Now we are calling them out 💪🏽
Very true
@@lizzie0canada9roxya that exact thing is still happening in many other counties. Child marriage must end & former child brides must be protected 💙
*You missed a few connecting details in Shirley’s MGM visit.*
The part she was “auditioning for” at MGM, with Arthur Freed-was actually *FOR* the role of Dorothy, in *wizard of oz!!!!*
The only reason she *didn’t* get the role as Dorothy, is literally because Arthur was *INFURIATED* when he exposed himself and she started nervously giggling!
She told the whole horrifying story in detail, when she was a guest on (I think it was Larry king’s…) talk show.
*Basically the TL;DR of the story is this…*
Shirley and her mother were separated from each other immediately after arriving to MGM studios. Her mom was taken to one office and Shirley was taken to Arthur’s office- where he promptly tried to use the “casting couch” with her.
Within a few minutes of the giggling incident happening- she and her mom were escorted out.
When they got to their car, Shirley started crying and told her mom what happened in the room …and how did that b i t c h respond to her little girl telling her something horrible like that…? _SHE STARTED LAUGHING_ and said;
*”if you think THAT was bad-you don’t even want to know what was happening in the room I was in!!!”*
She just laughed it off like a big joke and basically told Shirley to “get used to it”….
*I truly despise the entertainment industry and the repugnant stage parents that will do/allow anything to happen to their children- for money...* 🤬
wtf would her mom say something like that 🤢🤢
thank you for clarifying that. it makes a whole lot of sense why her money was gone then. she trusted her parents and they failed her in every single way. she deserved so much better and her mother just let it happen. especially as a father, knowing grown men are lusting over his baby girl, is absolutely repulsive. but i guess the money to them was worth more than their child’s innocence and any real attempt at a childhood.
I heard that she didn't get the part of Dorothy because the studio that she was with (the studio system) refused to lend her out so that she could do it.
#truth
On the contrary, I think it's not just the mom's reaction that's questionable. I think her minizing and rationalising reflect's how society treated women back then. I think the mom was propositioned too in the worse and when hearing her child was presented that way made her think, "Well, at least you aren't almost r*ped and just flashed... Well Hollywood."
She was such an adorable child. She grew up into a beautiful woman, it’s sad and heartbreaking she had to go through all of this.
Shirley was such a strong woman who has been through so much in her life! I’m so amazed by her. Thank you for sharing her story Sloan!
I grew up watching Shirley Temple’s movies and as a kid I never fully understood how inappropriate they were. I always thought she was so cute and talented and in a way I wanted to sing and dance like her. Thanks for making this video because I now have a new found respect for her story beyond my childhood memories.

Wait, A little princess with main actress Liesel Matthews?
Been looking forward to this one! The original child star who went through so much trauma and abuse especially in a time where child labour laws weren’t really a thing.
I don't like that Sloan used "tragic life" to describe Shirley's life because she would NEVER have accepted that description of her life. She felt blessed and she used her privilege and fame to not only help the USA but to help people around the world. She was a hero, not some 'tragic life' story.
@@thornyback her life was completely tragic. We aren't speaking from her perspective. We're speaking from strangers perspective of seeing her be used and abused.

He already did the vid on her. Still, if what you say is true all that could be revealed with a deep dive.
it’s crazy how adults could be so envious of a CHILD.
Ugh.
Yes to Judy please ❤️❤️❤️ Dorothy was my idol as a kid

Its so haunting and astounding what was allowed.
Same! E! True Hollywood Stories and ET (Entertainment Tonight) we’re always running in my house as a kid.

omg I was so excited to watch this.
Parents in this industry tend to steal their kids money. Greed and using their children is such an ugly concept. I feel for them.
“ ACE FAMILY “
@Jasmine N. There's also the teenagers below eighteen who's parents run their accounts, makes them create often inappropriate content and even manages everything behind the scenes. From tik tok, to Instagram and so on. Danielle Cohn is a good example.
with this one they kill her mom as I heard just get nasty hand on child
EXCEPT Elisabeth Taylor who had a strong personality right from the start.
Yes there's so many bad ones. So many awful Adult like skits. It's gross
I agree, they never go into great detail. This was a good video on the topic
Thank you for your video Sloan and bringing awareness to how dark Hollywood and music industry is
Everyone knows this story already
Yess I agree I'm a fan of m.j he really suffered a lot he was a legend we love him and miss him till now 😭♥️♥️♥️♥️
So glad you talked about Shirley, I always knew that she must have endured the worst trauma, starting at 3y/o and back in the day I can't imagine how much they exploited this poor girl :(
I'm really glad that a lot of child stars are speaking out about how they were mistreated and abused. While I'm sure, at the time, there wouldn't have been laws regarding children on film sets... one would hope the adults in the situation would be more aware of the child's wellbeing. So sad. Those baby burlesque films are something else. Would love to hear about Judy Garland - I don't think I know her story.
They are making things better for future child actors❤️ they truly care about their industry and want to see the change happen

@@kaileygiles7486 ..not really children are still being sa so much. Hollywood is a cesspool of creeps, rapist and pedophiles still terrorizing children, men and women. Especially in the music business too.
It's so sad that those kids parents allowed their children to go through this. I would never have my daughter work at a young age.
And in some cases they used this as an excuse not to work.
allowed ? they put her through that !
It's honestly disgusting how a bunch of adults were jealous of a child and the trauma they put her through absolutely sickening
Shirley deserved a much better childhood than the one she got because no child deserves to be seen as anything sexual. I find that creepy and weird. They should be allowed to be kids and live normal lives
My heart breaks for the childhood she lost.
Thks for the thumbs up!
It's NASTY.
aww please don’t feel guilty, we didn’t know then but all that matters is the now and just keep being a good mama and protect the children 😊😍😍🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
They still do it
That’s what they wanted! For us to think it was normal, but we know better now. This shall never be normal again!!
Great video, Sloan. It is so critical that people understand that the things that happened to Britney have been taking place for decades. Centuries, even.

I'm so glad you're covering this! Her story is horrific
Crying instantly because I used to watch Shirley Temple with my grandma 😥 what she went through is so terrible 😭
My great grandpa was in a band with her. Such a sweet girl with a tragic past.
Thank you for telling the stories and advocating for the well being of child stars

Could you do Judith Barsi some day? Her story is so tragic , but needs to be shared. She was the little girl who voiced ducky in lamb before time and the little girl on All Dogs Go To Heaven
Lol lamb before time.
It’s sad and unfortunate that this kind of behavior is still going on not just to child stars but adults as well… enough is enough these ppl need to be held accountable for their actions and behaviors!!!!!
I know these videos aren’t easy to make. Thank you for continuing to expose such horrible acts
i genuinely have now idea how someone can look at someone that young and innocent and see them in a sexual way..
Shirley was a fave of mine growing up 🥰 Please do a video on child star Patty Duke. Be prepared to be blown away. Her life was horrendous
This is so sad! I remember my mom telling me about this when I was a kid. She was absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!! She has that timeless beautiful 😍
I wish all these child stars Healing and peace beings this chaotic history it’s so scary. I’m glad I was protected. I’m grateful for my mother. Grateful I got told NO! I cried watching this just wana hug them all tell them love is out there. Thank you Sloan! Great content
I have all of her VHS movies and sing alongs, I grew up loving this little girl 😭❤️
I seriously love sloans eyes and smile. They always brighten my day 😇
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Shirley temple was my childhood. I remember going to the library and picking out the cd from the isle and curling up at home with my mom.
Thank you for this deep dive into her life. She seemed like a fascinating person her entire life
I am incredibly uncomfortable with the imagery and subject matter, and I'm only a few minutes in.
I remember that!! They sold them in color
That wasn't a hanging munchkin it was actually one of the lights that unhinged
Can't wait to see this channel hit 1 million subs. You deserve it Sloan!
I'm so glad you spoke about this. But it needs to be 5 series. Very interesting. Thank you for bringing this to us. You are amazing 👏 ❤
Love you Sloan! You always tell the truth behind everything! Love that you are delving into “old Hollywood”! Yes please…do tell the story of Judy Garland! Loved the Wizard of Oz and would love to hear more about what Judy went through! ❤️
thank you for all you do Sloan ❤️ we love you
I’m so glad you made this video! I grew up watching all of her work, as a kid in the 80’s. I wanted to be just like her. It’s so gross to dissect these roles now. Wow. The entire video I was wondering where her mom was during all of this. So unfortunate.
I would love for you to make a Judy Garland video! ❤️
Thank you for using your outlet to share her story.
I used to watch all of Shirley Temples films when I was a child. Once i got in my 20s a UA-cam video was in my recommendeds and my innocence died. To know that she went through all that yet she still radiated on film made my heart ache. I’m so glad her story is out..
