dropping a lil fun psychology fact here. students actually oftentimes get sick during finals for stress!! so it was probably just because of all the things stressing you out that you got sick. also just to reassure you: YOU ARE SO GOOD AT PAINTING CAMILA! i have been watching you for literally over a year at this point and you've not only made a ton of progress, but you've also refined your style into something truly unique. sure hyperealism can be stiff sometimes like you say, but i seriously think that this painting feels alive. the details are stunning, especially for how *big* this piece is. another great watch, im glad to see that this big project all wrapped up, and wish you luck on your next one!
As someone who is Mexican and live in the US w/my family, sitting around the table and eating tacos (or just food in general) is such an important part of spending time with them. Like, I know it looks like a very casual subject for such a big project, but to me, the scene is very personal and speaks to your homesickness. Idk, I really connected with this painting. Btw, I thought that your sister was you this whole time!
I'm so fascinated with the cartoonish character Camila has used in a lot of her work. It feels like a manifestation of the anxiety of art school looming in the background, or in this case it's Cam smiling through the pain of being away from family as she's on the outside looking in. The caricature is useful in the place of true emotion (since Cam is such a silly goose)
I’m OBSESSED with the way you did this and I love the idea of having more surreal caricature people and elements sticking out in a mainly realism painting. I hope you do more of this it’s one of my favorite pieces you’ve done.its so interesting to look at and def would make me want to see more of your work.
camila! this is a reminder that the reason why you have so many followers is BECAUSE people love your work. it's been so fun to watch your journey in art school and i think you have a fantastic career ahead of you.. actually right now!! (the painting is outstanding)
14:24 Cam, no matter what major it is, that's a canonic event. I have majored in archival science and for the entirety of my college years, I feel the same as you are describing. And news: now I have a master's degree, and still feel that way lmao but the thing is: now I know a lot more than I knew when I was in my first college semester, but there will always be someone who knows more than me about my area, and that's life. The only thing we can do is try to learn with who knows more and focus on our self-evolution. And you are doing great. Don't let the impostor syndrome get over you! Love from Brazil ❤️
I really love this painting. I think it is a lot deeper than you may imagine because you are giving us a glimpse into your mind. How you see your family and what you long for!! It shows so much and has a lot to interpret 💜💜💜 also as someone who goes out of their way to get authentic tacos at least once a week, tacos are a worthy concept 😂😂
This probably sounds so dumb but around 28:37 I just started tearing up. I'm a highschool senior who wants to major in the arts but im super stressed about feeling uneducated and not good enough of an artist to do art school. but its super nice to hear that you've learned a bunch in art school which is what ive been looking forward to. im sitting here painting stressed about my stupid ap art portfolio so thanks for giving me hope :)
That damn ap portfolio 😩 I sympathize with you. Honestly I thought ap 3d and 2d was a waste of time, but they actually get me 6 college credits. I graduated HS class of 2021 and I'm starting design school next year :'D
"I had fun doing it, I also did not have fun doing it" is literally me at the end of every project, I'm a junior in painting and print. ur progress on this painting was crazy , I cant believe how much energy u spent on some areas I was really sick during my final, and it forced me to work differently, in a good way but was still really challenging. but mine was only 18x18 inches. major cudos to u !!! I can see this in a museum, its a painting where many people deserve to step up to it and observe your hard work
watching this painting’s progression has got to be one of the most fulfilling things i’ve seen on youtube. congrats on finishing it, it looks so good 😭💕
i really like this painting camilla. it can get frustrating when art gets too conceptual and it feels like everything you make has to have some complex, deeper meaning. in an attempt to make meaningful art, i feel like it can have the opposite effect on the artist and make the artist feel disconnected from their art. this painting doesn't feel like an essay, it feels like a celebration of your conviction. please keep making art, this is inspiring 💗
idk how many times you need to hear this Camila… but you are a GOOD PAINTER… the progress you have made is phenomenal… who cares about other people’s journey, just take one step at a time 🤩
you have so much intention behind your art and care for the craft and that's already enough to make people respect you as an artist, no matter if you use fancy, meandering words or not. i can relate so hard studying architecture at uni and i think keeping hold of those intentions which are true to yourself is so important and it becomes the best thing about your work so stay strong!! well done camila!
(This got a littly rant-y, I apologize...) I enjoy all of your content, but I especially like these kind of painting vlogs that focus on one piece from start to finish, and this one spoke to me a lot. I would consider myself an artist, and while I'm on a much lower skill level than you, a lot of the struggles that come with it (or with being passionate about doing any kind of thing, really) I can relate to. Hearing you speak openly about your worries and your struggles with your painting, and seeing you overcome them with a finished painting to prove it really motivates me to do the same. I love being able to see your progress through the years, and I really enjoy the mix of hyperrealism with the looser and more playful elements of your more recent work. I feel like it's so hard to realize you're making progress because it all happens gradually and slowly, but then you look back on your work from a year ago and suddenly you realize how much you've learned, and to me that's so rewarding. I'm definitely way less qualified to judge your art than yourself or your professors or anyone who actually knows what they're talking about, but in my eyes, you've absolutely improved over the last years and I hope you are able to see that and be proud of yourself for it, because you absolutely should. Thank you for making these videos, and please get some rest after that colossus of a painting!!
Hearing you talk about how your struggle to love your art, and style, and process is so real and comforting to hear. I'm currently in ap drawing and its highkey brutal and I feel like a fraud all the time. I appreciate how honest you are in your videos about your personal challenges as an art student, and just an artist in general. It's not easy to be kind to yourself and recognize the things you're good at, but you are truly so inspiring and every piece I have seen you create as left me in awe.
Girl, you are such a warrior for pushing through all of the stress and sickness; even with the overwhelming situation, you still smiled and made a superb video for us, not to mention the gorgeous painting!! 😢 I know you may doubt yourself a lot, but trust me when I tell you how talented you are!! Keep it going, girl, we believe in you ❤ Your passion and artistic abilities are going to take you so far!
I understand that artists are their biggest critics but You are way too hard on yourself! You are so talented!!! I love the concept of this painting where its based on your feelings of missing home. I feel like art doesn't always need to have a deep ass meaning or be symbolic all the time. You're painting what you feel and that's important and valid too!
I always thought your face rendering was so realistic and perfect, but I feel like it has still managed to get even better!! your family's faces are so full of warmth and life
I really love the surreal vibe of paintings like this I think you do so well when you lean into that surreal vibe. Making these paintings of just an everyday thing, very realistic looking too, but then there is just something really off about it on some way. It creates a really cool feeling and I think that’s really something you do extremely well
The painting looks amazing, silly! Just makes me feel so lucky to live right by some amazing Mexican food; I’m gonna have to learn how to make it on my own once I head off for college. I don’t know how you can survive out there without some delicious tortas and chilaquiles, with everything RAAAH! Congrats on how it all turned out! I love seeing pieces that aren’t too deep, and just simple and comedic. Much love ❤️
I love your content!!! Everything you say resenates with me so hard. Just knowing im not the only struggle with their art college journey makes me feel a little more confident knowing im not alone. Thank you for being real and not afraid of showing your art process.
Thank you for sharing the process of your finial. I think it is very beautiful! I love the concept, and your details are crazy good! I’m learning a lot for you! Thank you for the long AF video! I am so happy! Try not to be so hard on yourself. You are a very talented young lady!
your art is always amazing and I think seeing your journey in art school is so fun to watch for me. I graduated college in 2021 as a painting major and I wish I had vlogged it then. it's nice to know as an artist who really loved school (to a point), and really got SOOO much during that time, that we all have had similar experiences that make us feel insane lmao. I can see you changing a lot both artistically and mentally when it comes to creating and that's like the best thing ever to me. keep going always. im painting right now watching this
Comparison is the root of all evil. Remember that. You’re not a fraud. You’re not an idiot. You’re talented, and you’re learning and growing. The painting is so fun! And the passion you found when planning it and painting it is enough to validate that you should have done it! 😊
I love your art so much it’s so unique and I’ve never seen anything like it! When someone asks who my favorite artist is I say Camila. Don’t ever feel bad about yourself and keep being you
Genuinely I love the painting & it resonates a lot with me as a first gen Mexican American. I moved from Texas to Chicago for school (also an art major) and one family tradition we used to have was eating at home from his place called pollo regio not far from the small town we lived in. I feel the homesickness girl, but it's okay we got thisss
I absolutely love your work!! Your art is just stunning! It’s normal for us to doubt ourselves, we just can’t listen to our negative thoughts. Thank you for showing us the long process of making your painting! I was shocked and so excited to see we had a longer video from you! Thx again. Happy 20th Birthday 🥳
Happy birthday camilaaaaa!!!! Hope 20 and the years to come treat you will happiness and care🫶🫶🫶 your paintings are such an inspiration and i love your commentary and thought processes, its so interesting to see what your thinking. Also your understatedly funny, like your facial expression and meme references got me giggling😭
I relate so much to youuu! As an artist, and with the struggles that comes with it (I'm studying illustration in Chile, I know isn't the same as studying art itself... but yeah, I know how it feels to be running and not knowing what to do and having "crisis existenciales" jsjs) and I really enjoy watching your videos, and I love your art too, hope you enjoy this chritsmas.✨
Camila, I like watching your videos BECAUSE you speak from the heart and because you paint self-portraits. Your work is deeply personal. Even when you say it doesn't have much meaning, the fact that you paint yourself and your life is meaningful in itself especially in this wild world. I love seeing you enjoy work! Keep loving it!! Lo que te hace feliz ❤
AGHH I'm like 20 minutes through and I've already seen the finished product but I just love how it's coming along! Also I'm a junior in high school so it's really cool to see what art school is like for you
Grass is always greener and that’s why it’s better to only compare yourself to yesterday. If you improve each day (on average, nothing is linear) then they stack up like bricks building a house. Always liked this quote: “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better best." Love your work btw, the vulnerability is refreshing in a world of people hiding themselves. 😊
IT CAME OUT AMAZING!! And even though you probably have a lot of people already telling you this- you’re GOOD at painting! I love the mix of hyper realism and the simpler background + how personal it feels, it reminds me of my own family dinners haha
You're absolutely amazing, Camila. Funny, talented, and the most important thing, hard working. You care a lot. I personally think as long as you're always apprecating the work you put on, even if you're not satisfied with the end results, at the time, it'll be fine.
I still remember when your work first came across my fyp forever ago. Someone i didn’t know of before, i could recognize your face because of how much i liked your art, and how perfectly you recreated yourself.
Honestly I kinda feel the same in artschool as in people just not liking my work... I'm an illustration major and everyone just loves the loos styles but like I just render stuff and do more like a traditional approach ig (and anime sometimes lol but also quite rendered ). I feel like there is always a current style that is seen as good and some people will just disregard everything diffrent reagrdless of the quality of it, which is insane in art?? But I do feel you on that sadly. (btw I adore your work !!)
I loved the painting your my inspo for when i go to college (well hs first) but i would like to go to a art college because of you knowing that A.I cant take physical drawing away TYSM for theese rundowns on your college experience it motivates me too draw!!!!
4:45 "OMG, Hopper, I can't believe you did all that work just to paint some random people in a street corner diner lol" Camila, I love your work, and that's what you sound like 😂❤
Hey Camilla, I don't know about you, but when my eyes (or one of my eyes) start twitching a lot, I know I need a new glasses/contacts prescription. Might want to get your vision checked. Love the video! Long content from you is always appreciated. Also, I love that we get to see you paint people who aren't you! You did great!
not overrendering is how your paintings develop personality so dont worry about rendering things to their highest level! many painters find the truest and most honest form of their work in their underpaintings
I hope you know that all creatives struggle with self doubt. Even the successful ones. (Including the ones you admire!) We all envy someone else’s talent or fresh perspective. We wish we could achieve their results or think like them. But try to remember you ARE that fresh perspective to others! You’re still growing as an artist and as a person. You have so much to discover with your creative voice! So don’t stress too much about where you’re at or where you want to be. I think the more you allow your creativity to be a form of play, the more you’ll achieve narrative depth and “life” in your work. And I can confidently say this painting had lots and lots of your life in it! That’s what makes it interesting! Always remember that your work is not your worth. Your work has worth because it illuminates your humanity and the worth you already had. ❤
I can see how you think this concept for your painting is too simple and silly to you. However, I want you to know that from an outsiders perspective, such a concept like this one about the love and admiration for those special times of eating dinner with family, is perfect for a large painting. It’s truly your form of being able to relive these fond memories by making a life size painting and portrays so well the emotions felt when being reunited at home again. To me, I couldn’t think of a more perfect idea for a large canvas piece.
Just wanted to say I've been watching Ur videos for years. Before u started art school, wanted to say Ur an inspiration to me and I find your videos very motivational, I've actually just been accepted into art school and start next year. Wanted to thankyou for always keeping it real in your videos
this is by far the most relatable video and realistic portrayal of what painting is like. before getting into college i made a 2 by 3 meter (maybe even bigger i dont remember) painting that took around 90 hours and i can tell u right now that 90% of what you said in this video was how i was feeling word for word 😭😭😭 especially the being in the studio for 8 hours but only getting 3 hours of work done, i even remember feeling sick the whole day during painting (probably because of the paint smell and constantly having to think and stand and work for as long as i could) but yeah just wanted to say because it felt reassuring to watch this video and know im not alone in this
@@caamileon haha thanks it took me forever,I had to keep replaying it just to make sure! (uhm so i keep redoing this comment because the reply thingy didn’t work)
i'm sure others have said it and that u don't really care abt the opinion of randos but we do actually like your work ! i guess i can only speak for myself but i dont follow a lot of popular art creators because im uninterested in a lot of what's popular, but i love your work. for me, your work is the perfect blend of realism and creativity which is what i love so so much, your composition is always creative and engaging to look at, your color choices are so brilliant especially when u do non realistic colors, and your videos and explanations of where you were at during the piece connects me even more to it! i think your whole process is your art and you need to give yourself more credit. we don't gaf about how many people follow you, you're talented and a genuinely fun person to follow and watch the artistic process of !! for a genuine critique maybe lean into the weird trippiness of the smiley little version of yourself that you paint. i think ur rly onto something w that and should add that element into more areas of ur paintings
hi thanks for all da love and support always I’m reading y’all’s comments and I am Very Grateful For Y’all 🫶
dropping a lil fun psychology fact here. students actually oftentimes get sick during finals for stress!! so it was probably just because of all the things stressing you out that you got sick. also just to reassure you: YOU ARE SO GOOD AT PAINTING CAMILA! i have been watching you for literally over a year at this point and you've not only made a ton of progress, but you've also refined your style into something truly unique. sure hyperealism can be stiff sometimes like you say, but i seriously think that this painting feels alive. the details are stunning, especially for how *big* this piece is. another great watch, im glad to see that this big project all wrapped up, and wish you luck on your next one!
This is so real, i was super sick all finals weeks
My sister is currently 0/6 for not being sick during finals
43 MINUTES OF CAMILA AAAAA
YAYYY!!🎉🎉
She is feeding us well 🍽
YESSS
The caricature is useful in the place of true emotion (since Cam is such a silly goose)
ur so right :')

your humor is what brings all your videos together. by far most entertaining youtuber I’ve ever watched 😭 love you girl
camila! this is a reminder that the reason why you have so many followers is BECAUSE people love your work. it's been so fun to watch your journey in art school and i think you have a fantastic career ahead of you.. actually right now!! (the painting is outstanding)

Cam, no matter what major it is, that's a canonic event. I have majored in archival science and for the entirety of my college years, I feel the same as you are describing.
And news: now I have a master's degree, and still feel that way lmao
but the thing is: now I know a lot more than I knew when I was in my first college semester, but there will always be someone who knows more than me about my area, and that's life.
Omg at 10:57 “whered I go” 💀 😭 😆 I actually laughed out loud at the pause after that lmao

I love how you play stardew valley music in the background of your videos. Thats one of my comfort games 🌞
I was looking for a comment like this!! I love Stardew🥲
43:10 minutes of a journey of highs and lows omg

You're so good at painting. I really enjoy watching the process.

Also, youre a huge inspiration to me. Please know that you have so many rooting for you. You got this!!!!
You’re one of the only people I have notifications on for new videos
I relate so much to youuu! It is the hardest painting you ever made cuz it goes hard 🔥🔥🤯
Ur so amazing! Keep up with ur work!!!
Love it! It's been so fun to see it develop
I still remember when your work first came across my fyp forever ago. Someone i didn’t know of before, i could recognize your face because of how much i liked your art, and how perfectly you recreated yourself.
Hi!!!! I really enjoyed watching your work your blogs are soo fun! Your art is truly amazing thanks for your hard work 🎉
40 MINUTES??? LETS GOOOO
you did it! I love how it turned out!!!!!!!!!
(btw I adore your work !!)
girlll it looks so good!!
6:44 The best ideas totally pop up only when you're in the shower 😅

4:45 "OMG, Hopper, I can't believe you did all that work just to paint some random people in a street corner diner lol" Camila, I love your work, and that's what you sound like 😂❤

Hey Camilla, I don't know about you, but when my eyes (or one of my eyes) start twitching a lot, I know I need a new glasses/contacts prescription. Might want to get your vision checked.
Love the video! Long content from you is always appreciated. Also, I love that we get to see you paint people who aren't you! You did great!
thanks!! hehehe I get my prescription changed every 6 months my eyes are ass 😭💔
Go Camila!!! Love from Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷
U slayedd this
you're really my inspiration!
congratulations you’re all done !! it looks so beautiful aaaaaa !!!! also omg the sound effects you have always have me laughing so bad 😭
not overrendering is how your paintings develop personality so dont worry about rendering things to their highest level! many painters find the truest and most honest form of their work in their underpaintings
Yesss the queen is back🎉🎉

MY FAVVVV IS BACKKKK
Wanted to thankyou for always keeping it real in your videos
this video helped me calibrate my drawing tablet monitor
this is by far the most relatable video and realistic portrayal of what painting is like. before getting into college i made a 2 by 3 meter (maybe even bigger i dont remember) painting that took around 90 hours and i can tell u right now that 90% of what you said in this video was how i was feeling word for word 😭😭😭 especially the being in the studio for 8 hours but only getting 3 hours of work done, i even remember feeling sick the whole day during painting (probably because of the paint smell and constantly having to think and stand and work for as long as i could) but yeah just wanted to say because it felt reassuring to watch this video and know im not alone in this
and now that i am in college i can relate to the "do people even really like my work"😵
0:24 57, she said the word painting 57 times (and yes I did watch the whole video just to see how many times she would say it.)
You need a medal that’s incredible
@@caamileon haha thanks it took me forever,I had to keep replaying it just to make sure! (uhm so i keep redoing this comment because the reply thingy didn’t work)
HAPPY BIRTH !
congrats on finishing the painting, it looks wonderful!! I’m also sick during finals season but we’ll get through it :/
mama a distorted caricature behind YOU 💜
i'm sure others have said it and that u don't really care abt the opinion of randos but we do actually like your work ! i guess i can only speak for myself but i dont follow a lot of popular art creators because im uninterested in a lot of what's popular, but i love your work. for me, your work is the perfect blend of realism and creativity which is what i love so so much, your composition is always creative and engaging to look at, your color choices are so brilliant especially when u do non realistic colors, and your videos and explanations of where you were at during the piece connects me even more to it! i think your whole process is your art and you need to give yourself more credit. we don't gaf about how many people follow you, you're talented and a genuinely fun person to follow and watch the artistic process of !! for a genuine critique maybe lean into the weird trippiness of the smiley little version of yourself that you paint. i think ur rly onto something w that and should add that element into more areas of ur paintings
