- A Thai temple cat's bid for affection during solemn Buddhist prayers for the new year on Tuesday was enough to test the patience of a monk trying to maintain his concentration. Video of the saffron-robed monk gently trying to push away the cat who crawled into his lap during the five-hour-long prayers delighted Thais who saw the footage on Facebook.
"I was trying to read the book. But I was more focused on the cat," said the 25-year-monk, who uses the monastic name Luang Pi Komkrit Taechachoto. The video was originally posted on public Facebook group "Cats' Slaves" and was soon reposted on different pages. It has gained around 300,000 views collectively and was also replayed on Thai TV.

Greg Williams nope not in original Buddhism. The other gods are mostly Hindu that got added on because of how close they were in ideology and geography.

1 year back i went to temple to perform kaala bhairava pooja. A dog (mount of kaala bhairava) sat in my lap and played with me. after completion of pooja, dog ate naivedyam (it was a sweet recipe )that I offered to kaala bhairava during pooja. I felt like I was blessed!!

I must be in need of a lot of healing all the time. My cat wont leave me alone.
I sleep, it sleeps near my head. I eat, it's by my side staring at me and my food. I use the toilet, it crawls into my pants and stares at me. I shower, its staring at me through the shower curtain. I wash the dishes, it lays down by my feet. I cook food, again it lays down or sits by my feet. I watch tv or youtube, it lays next to me usually with one paw touching me. So on and so on. Non stop. I love my cat but sheesh. Lol.

That kitty cat absolutely adores him hey.. doing the whole pussy cat stomp on him is one of a cats greatest signs of affection. The greatest sign of affection is when a cat bows their head and bunts you or your head!! That kitty cat was absolutely at peace and wanted to share themselves with that Buddhist for snuggles and cuddles hey!!

@AUTUMN FOREST No need to be rude by calling people idiot. Have some manners. And it was a story I heard years ago. Probably before you were born. There were certain animals that had been blessed by Buddha. They were in a line before Buddha to be blessed by him and among all the animals was a cat. The cat took his time to get in line because cats are contrary. They do things on their own time. So by the time the cat decided to get in line it was to late. All the animals had been blessed except the cat and Buddha was gone.
It's just a story but I've heard it many times so I assume it's part of Asian culture. Somewhere. I'm not saying it's a part of their beliefs for real but a lot of the old stories have a base in beliefs of the time.
