The Chicago Bulls picked Chicago's own Matas Buzelis with the 11th pick last night. This video is my initial thoughts on the pick and I explain:
- Why I'm excited
- Some concerns I have

To resolve somewhat your jack-of-all-trades concern: I think if Matas were the age of PWill, ( subtle inference very intentional ), this would be a serious concern. But at age 19, I believe that it can be argued that this indicates that Matas has been working very hard on multiple aspects of his game, that he has made abundant progress, but that at his age it is only reasonable to concede that the work is not done. If his very obvious emotions after his selection are to mean anything, I believe it indicates how hard this young man has worked on his game, and what kind of passion he feels for overachieving in his basketball career. Looking at the clips that I have seen, I believe Matas has scary upside, and that the next step up from jack-of-all-trades is called……complete player.
I enjoy this type of content Duncan, your analytic videos are highly unique but its nice to hear your thoughts on bigger picture stuff.
I believe his shooting issues was due to the play style of the g league...its kinda like aau ball...its pretty chaotic.
Great pick by and for Chicago! This guy has amazing talent. He's like Ousmane Dieng with more dog in him. Great handles, athleticism, shooting and mental drive, and of course a really good shot blocker. From what I have seen I just hope he matures a bit (I'm sure he will) and takes a note out of Chet Holmgren's book, and learns to turn his blocks into transition or at least turnover opportunities. Chet is the master of keeping his blocks inbound or even in his own possession, to create not only a block but a turnover and another offensive opportunity.
