I would say that rather than hating Mankind or any other particular race the Beastmen really hate Civilization, the idea of civilization and anything that is just barely related to civilization, like buildings and established hierarchy. Back in the days when Dwarves and Elves ruled the Old World and Humans were largely Barbarians I'm sure that the Beastmen's hate was directed more toward the first two rather than Humans. Now that Mankind has become the most widespread of the civilized races they have also become the main target of the Beastmen. Probably the Beastmen see Civilization as some kind of Aberration to the natural ways of Chaos, and so they want to destroy it all to protect their own (very Chaotic) vision of nature.
Well they hate anything that isn't them as well but you're probably right they hate anything related to civilization if you go farther than a couple of tenths it's an insult to them
Blue138UEF You are thinking about this in a real world context in a fantasy setting. Sure humans are bad but considering how there are threats out there that make other humans look like puppies by comparison the thought of using their tech and organisation to fight other humans was probably an afterthought honestly.
It's the old "MLP vs. Spess Mehrinns" meme again, okay so seriously, Skaven would slaughter and devour "catgirls". Cuteness essentially isnt allowed, it's just that it has no chance against the brutal Warhammer universe.
Jakob Hallberg Though to be fair, Skaven are pretty weak compared to a normal human, so a Cat-person could feasibly body them with ease, especially since Skaven hate cats
Wow, the pre-history of Warhammer Fantasy is just really dark. I find it fascinating that the beastmen once were the dominant race, being the predators of their time while mankind (until they united) could do nothing but fear them. It sounds a bit like when neanderthals roamed the world as stronger and more brutal than their sapiens counterpart who in the end got outsmarted by us.
Arch I want to say from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for your vids. I have found them beyond relaxing and extreamly ,informintave, funny and fun to watch. I really like how me a total newb to the game can get to know all of the different factions in Warhammer.
In a way i like how to beastmen represent the flaws and fuckups of humans at a primal level in the warhammer world without all the fop snobbery and predudice stripped away
Very good video, Arch. I've found myself listening to these as I fall asleep- they are terribly interesting, very well made, and soothing to listen to while all the Chaos (ba dum tiss) of Finals going on. +1, and thanks for all the content.
The reason why the Beastmen are at war with everything is because, as followers of Chaos, they are naturally at enmity with anything that is anathema to Chaos - which is, well, everything.
A small update on the whole beastmen wemon question, i just re-read Trollslayer, and in it a Chaos Champion remembers beastwemon as being shy and carring, although so at the behest of a Demon
I can just imagine a best man siege on places like castle reikguard, where you see huge minotaurs just walking up with like a tree bashing it against the wall in hopes of breaking through while he gets pelted with arrows and gunfire, it would just be a slaughter.
Arch, I love your vids. I first watched your channel when total war: warhammer came out. Your lore video are amazing and i really enjoyed learning about the warhammer / 40k. Please keep up the great work!
The beastmen needed a buff like the Tau empire's Kroot. The more they eat other species the stronger they get. Otherwise they are entirely outclassed by almost every other faction.
The "beefmen" as I call them have pretty cool lore. Sadly I don't see many folks who play them on the table top. In the m&b and total war mods I'm not even sure if they're playable.
LastRussianEmporer in the total war mod for medieval 2 (call of warhammer), they are not playable (they are a horde ai basically) its also rage of the dark gods if you want to be really updated with that mod
I have quite a disagreement with the notion that beastmen are "not intelligent." Beastmen possess the same level of intelligence as a human, they just have a savage nature and instinct. They also do build structures, they organize pyres and build weapons and chariots. Civilization is directly abhorrent to Chaos, organization falls to the whim of Tzeentch who is essentially the God of Organized Chaos. It is said that the last thing a human leader of a warparty will ever realize is that the Beastmen were not at all unintelligent creatures.
I'm glad this one was done. So how do you guys think the beastmen would work in a total war game? I think it could be a large faction of multiple roving warbands. It could be really fun to play as a bray shamin who whips all of the local bands into one force before attacking the humans when they least expect it.. Maybe trading with the chaos factions. And the fact that the chaos incursions won't harm you could be offset by being wedged between the wood elves and Bretonians, who equally wish to kill you.
It would be a bit hard to play as the Beastmen and like an earlier video he made about Chaos Warriors, Beastmen should be like roaming warbands that I'd guess be the standard enemy you fight in the Old World seeing as if you want to get somewhere, you have to cross a forest.
Also I could have sworn that so long as a beastman had a snout and horns they were full fledged Gors even with other mutations. Also "Brays" without any horns seem to actually not be mentioned ANYWHERE but Tome of Corruption, and may not still be canon.
the beastmen are usually melee based if the game throws in ranged ones it will be a interesting twist for them and with ranged troops they will be formidable.
It would break against the Beastmen traits tho if they did that. And besides, they're good at ambushing so they dont need ranged. As well as they have no idea on how to construct bows or crossbows because, well, they're animals.
Ahriman I see fair enough also they apprentlly have the durability to withstand ranged attacks up to a point so they can close it. so it does make at least to add on to what you said that ranged units is not part of there traits.
Javelins thrown in the charge, to disrupt the enemy's formation, perhaps using an atlatl to give the javelins more range and power, doubling as a club when they hit the line.
there was a Templar squire who was turned by a chaos artifact but still preyed to Sigmar and begged for death from his master (he was beaten to the edge of death by beastmen) see beastslayer
+Jordan Harris (Jslayer12) Arch might make other videos of the Warhmmer world when all the faction lore videos are done. Theirs a lot of other subjects he diffident touch on such as important wars/battles,characters,places etc. I personally want to see a video about Gotrek and Felix.
These bestmen could provide a good food source for humans. It was mentioned that some are goats and cows. They could be captured and slaughtered for beef and enslaved for milk products. It would not be cannibalism. What are your thoughts?
Arc, i recommend u do in depth lore videos on the factions. For example u could go over all the colleges of magic in the empire or the orgins of sigmar. Or the vampire wars of vlad von carestein. Just an idea
Beastmen are only outnumbered by the Skaven and Greenskins. That said, they're easily more numerous than all the Humans, Dwarfs, and Elves combined. At least 3-1.
No, that's not quite right. See, Beastmen as he said in the video are men fused with animals and they have a staunch belief that humans are not as much chaotic as the Beastmen are because they represent order while Chaos is... Well Chaos, the opposite. It's also sorta racist. But the less animal a Beastman is, and the more human it is, the less it's worth in the warband. Thus it's not about mutation but about racism, kinda.
Honestly, i think these dudes will be like a "rebel" faction, like in Medieval 2 Total War. Someone you have to kill as Empire, for example, in order to unite the Realm.
"Before you think about leading an army of Beastmen, consider the fact that they never wash!... EVER!" Beware of the terribleeeuuuhhhhh Hipppieess Offf Chaoooosss!

We need a version of creed in Warhammer Fantasy. If you don't know who creed is, then this sentence will sum up his tactical genius (Plot Armor). Some even say that creeds genius stands with the powers of tzeench and the laughing Eldar God and even the Emperor*HERESY EXTARIMUTIS THE UNIVERSE*
anyone else imagining a really smart beastmen warlord equipping some of his human mutant slaves with javelins and sending them to harass and soften up the enemy units and then using Shaka Zulu tactics by sending in his head and horns to charge the weakened units while keeping some units in reserve as his loins! I can imagine the beastmen doing this as its although very simple its very ingenius!
Not sure if this is mentioned in the video, but did the Lizardman feast on the Beastman or something? Not seeing even a tiny cluster of Beastman in Lustria.
Well in an earlier video he talked about how the Lizardmen were built to resist Chaos, either the Beastmen left the area/never went there or they as you said were slaughtered by the Lizardmen.
Thanks for the video. I am totally new to Warhammer Fantasy. I have the 8th edition book. I am interested in learning the old world war game. I expect that I will play Age of Sigmar. Beastmen appear to be an uncommon or less popular army.
really good quality video again, I hesitate to say what I expect from you now, hah, oh and for the criticisms you got for your vampire counts campaign, I agree that the campaign is ridiculously challenging and unfair but if you don't want to continue it then don't. I am not saying I didn't enjoy it, in fact I do, and if you do as well, despite how hard it is, then carry on, this is your channel, no one else's. If you are going to do another one, pick yourself next time so you don't wind up with a faction you dislike, I am not saying feedback is pointless but don't do something because you feel you are forced to. You are the one playing and I am the one watching. Anyway, looks like I rant almost as much as you, haha, good video again Arch.
if beastmen can have an appearance of a rat?? does that make skaves some what related to beastmen ahah?? love ur vids man!! powering through all of them, brushing up on my lore. was a loyal warhammer online player until it shut :( thank god totalwar warhammer is coming back :D
There is little official lore on them. All we know is : _ There are a lot of jungles with tigers, elephants, and beastmen. _There is a species of beastmen that look like ugly tigermen (raskshasa) who can sometimes be kept at bay with small offerings at local shrines. They are lunatic creatures who are as likely to defend a village as they are to raze it for no reason. _ This is the land of spices and final destination of the Spice Route coming from the Old World. Accordingly their food is very hot (causing some unfortunate bowel movements to the unwary merchant or explorer) _ They trade with the High elves who have a port settlement near them. _ One of the major landmark near them is the City of Spires. But we don't know anything about it. Is it a ruin ? Does it belong to Ind ? Is it even a city ? _ There are multiple kingdoms in Ind and an aristocratic caste is ruling with an iron fist over the miserable populace. _ They are deeply religious and superstitious and their daily life is punctuated by ceremonies and offerings. _ They have more than 1001 gods, one being the godess of 100 eyes worshipped by priests in red robes (one of her major temple was sacked by the Dark elves) and another being Brahmir whose idols make those tainted by chaos cower in fear. _They suffered from major Dark elf corsair raids arround 1100 IC with whole towns being sacked and enslaved. Malekith, the Dark elf king, even led an assault on their capital (or one of the various kingdom's capital), razed it, and summoned a tidal wave to wipe the ruins for fun. _They have mages able to summon "chimeras and bestial apparitions" to assail their ennemies That's pretty much it.
another thing i hoped GW would further was the whole underworld sea the dark elfs used and the race of troglodytes living there. i really hoped for a new race there but after the AoS bs i guess that'll never happen now. just a question though, where did you find the info on Ind? i use lexicanium a lot but its only good for 40k to be honest. thanks
Scott Macleay There are small bits here and there about Cathay and Ind in various army books and some WH RPG books. Most of the info i got here was from the dark elf books (with a few bits from the Ogre one), the old Lustria campaign book and i think some white dwarf lore articles.
I enjoy coming back to this old Arch lore. Unpolished, raw, but still some of the best out there.
You can definitely see a down grade

I like how the beastmen near the Lizardmen actually have mutated to disguise themselves as Lizardmen from a distance.

Feeding an army requires supply. Supply implies organization or resource. Don't look now but what we're talking about is, Economy.
is there any warhammer faction left you could do a lore Video about?
The dark elves or kislev or chaos dwarves.
Jordan Harris Kislev is a stand alone faction ?
MrSupergambo yeh they had there own bear riding knights and everything a few (10) years ago
More lore YAY, this solves my exam nerves ^^
any chance of a vid on the kingdom of ind ?
There is little official lore on them.
All we know is :
_ There are a lot of jungles with tigers, elephants, and beastmen.
Accordingly their food is very hot (causing some unfortunate bowel movements to the unwary merchant or explorer)
_ They trade with the High elves who have a port settlement near them.
_They have mages able to summon "chimeras and bestial apparitions" to assail their ennemies
That's pretty much it.
wow, thats a hell of a lot more than i knew before reading your comment, thanks bro
another thing i hoped GW would further was the whole underworld sea the dark elfs used and the race of troglodytes living there. i really hoped for a new race there but after the AoS bs i guess that'll never happen now. just a question though, where did you find the info on Ind? i use lexicanium a lot but its only good for 40k to be honest. thanks
Scott Macleay There are small bits here and there about Cathay and Ind in various army books and some WH RPG books.
Most of the info i got here was from the dark elf books (with a few bits from the Ogre one), the old Lustria campaign book and i think some white dwarf lore articles.
i have the ogre book but the dark elf one is pretty much the only army book i dont own. might have to ebay that
