Still to this day the destiny is one of the most aesthetically pleasing steampunk or should I say space punk spaceships of all time. I have constantly thought of what the ship would look like within its full glory, and with the magic of your video I think it pretty much does that.
Don't know much about this franchise but I know that destiny is badass. What's its purpose and is it still out there tryna complete its mission or what?
Best looking ship I have ever seen. And looking at the comments, some people have made fan fiction continuations of universe atlantis and sg1. If your interested just Google "stargate universe fanfiction"
Probable by the time the ship was launched, the drones had not yet been invented. In addition, they have finished ammunition, and given that "Destiny" had to fight off attacks for centuries, they would in any case add to it a type of weapon from an unclassified ammunition.
@@EdbyVekTor ohh yeah I forgot this was built before. There was no dna requirement to access just codes I think. Still the technology they had during that period was impressive. A fully automated vessel capable of repelling attacks over those vast years.
Art Clark - "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. "Arthur C. Clarke." As someone who is a witch, I can assure you that we do not ride brooms. Most of the time we traipse around in cars, vans, trucks, motorcycles etc. BTW, the phrase "riding a broom" was a medieval euphemism for having sex. Think about it. :)
It is unlikely that the creators of the series will continue; too much time has passed. The series is waiting for either a restart or stagnation. But I will not stop making videos on it, it just takes time.
Amazon bought "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer", now they have the rights. Considering how much they are investing in the series and in the return of franchises (Lord of the Rings, Star Trek), I think we should expect the return of this universe. True, the quality and format may raise questions, we'll see.
@@EdbyVekTor I just hope it's a real continuation and a full length series, and not something like Origins. Some people might have liked Origins, but I think it was a very half assed effort. And I'm not really open to the idea of a reboot of any sort, because that just resets and focuses away from all the previously established stories that we love so much
@@tardarsauce3355 It wouldn't be bad if they did the same with Star Trek Picard. There were some mistakes, but in the second season they worked on them, as I see. Stargate needs the same
@@tardarsauce3355 They changed the mood, the classic show was quite light and positive, the new show became gloomy, cruelty appeared, as well as profanity. The new style scared away many, but by the second season they approached more carefully and gently shifted the focus, finding a balance. This is to explain it in a simplified way. In principle, I was more or less satisfied with the first season. But then again, I didn't grow up on the New Generation, for me that amazing Star Trek was Voyager. And I was very pleased that one of Picard's key characters was a character from Voyager. Picard's second season is less than halfway through, so it's hard to rate the season in its entirety, but I more or less like what it is. But it's time to close Star Trek Discovery, after the second season it clearly sank, this story has nothing to offer.
@@EdbyVekTor we can hope it's not more than 500. Hard to say how far destiny will have to drift. I just hope Eli was able to get the last stasis pod working 😳 I'm sure he did. "Science fiction is an existential metaphor that allows us to tell stories about the human condition. It may seem trivial to the blinded philosophers and critics of today but the core of science fiction, it's essence is critical to the survival of humanity, if we are to survive at all." Issac Asimov.
Billions of light-years, as Rush stated, plural. Other side of the universe, as Eli stated. Earth has an observable sphere of 13 billion light-years (due to speed of light). So either: 5-13 billion (using Earth's observable sphere as a limit) or 500-999 billion light-years (assuming the universe is *very* large, and 999 billion is the American max; exceed it and you have a trillion which contradict Rush).
I’ve come up with somewhere between, 1 Gly - 150 Tly. 1 billion light years (1 Gly) being a very low estimate, where the Destiny travels at only 10,000 light years per year, and started 100,000 years ago, going by Rush’s “launched 100,000’s of years ago” quote. 10 Kly/yr x 100K yrs = 1 Gly We know that both of these values are under estimations. At 10 Kly/yr it would take 10 years to get through our galaxy and 30 (edited, to 300) years to get to the next galaxy. The Destiny is clearly traveling much faster than that. And the Destiny was launched 50 million years ago from Earth. ____ And the high limit of 150 trillion light years? (150 Tly) This is a very over estimation. They originally proposed that the Destiny would visit a new galaxy every season. So, assuming that the total time needed to travel through one galaxy, then crossing through intergalactic space and arrive in the next galaxy, took one season and one season is equal to one year. And assuming that the average distance between galaxies is 3 million light years. Then by using the total number of years since the Destiny was launched; 3 Mly/yr x 50 M yrs = 150 Tly. But I think that it’s safe to say that the Destiny doesn’t travel that fast as they needed to travel continuously at FTL for 3 years to get from 1/4 of one galaxy through into the next galaxy, as per the last episode of the series. ____ I’ve decided to go with a more mostest figure of ~ 1 Tlys. It’s still low, but maybe the Destiny now travels at faster rate since there’s people above. ____ Rush is a mathematician and maybe an engineer, not an anthropologist or cosmologist. His early estimates about the Destiny’s age was way off, so it’s likely that is estimates regarding how far the Destiny is from the Earth are off too. Though there is a difference between how far traveled vs how far away. The Destiny could be 100 Glys away while actually having traveled 10 Tlys, though that contradict Eli’s statement that the Destiny has traveled in a lazy straight course. ____ The diameter of the observable Universe is ~ 93 Glys. With the lower limit regarding the Universe’s overall size being 250x larger than that of the observable Universe. So; 93 Gly x 250 = 23.25 Tlys
@@eds1942 Rush's quote about "100,000's of years" was woefully inadequate for just how old the gate on the ship is. The oldest known milkyway gate was over 4 million years old, found in Antarctica and the gate on Destiny was possibly one of the first ever constructed, which would make it much much older than the gate found in Antarctica
Thorns_ It wasn’t in Rush’s skill set to make that kind of determination. I mean, an archeologist could, a metallurgist could, but not a mathematician or geneticist. The idea was originally to have the Ancients here on Earth near the time when the dinosaurs still walked around. The oldest known archeological Ancient stuff in the Milky-Way dated back to ~60 million years and they reached Earth before 50 million. The Destiny dates back till around that era, loosely the Destiny “...pre-dates anything found in the Milky-Way”. I think that the oldest known Stargate in the Milky-Way dated back to ~50 Gyrs. The one found in Antarctica was left by the Ancients that fled to the Pegasus a few million years back, so 4 Gyrs should be about right. (The writers might have been having second thoughts in the later years in regards to the dating vs technological progression.) My thoughts are that the Seed-Ship type Stargates were a sort of a cheap, starter gate. The automated SG seed ships mass-produced that type and dropped them on any world around their path through the Milky-Way and Pegasus potentially suitable for human life, and a team of Ancients would come around later and setup a high quality permanent gate if the planet worked out.
Awsome Ship aint it. i mean all over the Sci Fi worlds. this is one of the coolest ships. would take it over a Star Destroyer Class or even a Enterprise
The Destiny herself was the only interesting character on that terrible show. Every episode was like a soap opera, a really really boring soap opera. I'm a huge fan of the movie, SG-1 and Atlantis but SGU just sucked donkey balls. The only exception might be Dr. Rush, he both looked and acted like a guy I used to work with. He smoked crack to get "inspiration" for the symphonies he composed. No I'm not kidding. I'm not naming names, but he was an accomplished composer, Guinness World Record holder and a real cantankerous old bastard that loved to smoke crack.
At first I thought exactly the same. But over the years my opinion has changed, I understood this show. The creators themselves are to blame, they changed the tone too suddenly and abruptly. If the Universe had started to come out in parallel with Atlantis, at least towards the end, we could have tried the new format but enjoyed the old one at the same time. But it turned out that they abruptly changed the tone and left us with no alternative, either a new format or nothing connected with this universe.
@@EdbyVekTor I've changed my mind on other shows over the years so it could happen here as well if I revisit it in a few years.
Watch these three shows, they are damn worth it. Destiny was launched thousands of years ago and flies towards its goal.

Best looking ship I have ever seen. And looking at the comments, some people have made fan fiction continuations of universe atlantis and sg1.
If your interested just Google "stargate universe fanfiction"
A magnificent ship. I wonder why the Lanteans didn't include drone missiles instead they placed cannons on this ship.

I always thought the ship looked like a broom. With that line of thinking, you know what that makes the ancients, right? Witches.

What kind of brooms do you have?! Can't say I've ever seen a broom that looks like the Destiny.
Art Clark - "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. "Arthur C. Clarke."
As someone who is a witch, I can assure you that we do not ride brooms. Most of the time we traipse around in cars, vans, trucks, motorcycles etc. BTW, the phrase "riding a broom" was a medieval euphemism for having sex. Think about it. :)
Broom? Hammer, Pickaxe. And Kalintysta is full of it.
Turn it around and it looks like thors hammer "mjölner". What that makes the ancient look? Gods.

an unfair fate for such a franchise
hell of a mission with enough power 5 ZPM-s should be enough for a resque
This show is amazing and holds up very well to this day. Unfortunately it was cancelled by Syfy for wrestling...
Stargate needs the same
@@EdbyVekTor What kind of mistakes did they make in Picard? I'm curious as I've never seen it, but I have seen and quite admire Star Trek TNG

Anyone every try to work out how far the Destiny has traveled?
Billions of light-years, as Rush stated, plural. Other side of the universe, as Eli stated. Earth has an observable sphere of 13 billion light-years (due to speed of light). So either: 5-13 billion (using Earth's observable sphere as a limit) or 500-999 billion light-years (assuming the universe is *very* large, and 999 billion is the American max; exceed it and you have a trillion which contradict Rush).
like there is a sequel to the comics, there you can take a look
I’ve come up with somewhere between,
1 Gly - 150 Tly.
1 billion light years (1 Gly) being a very low estimate, where the Destiny travels at only 10,000 light years per year, and started 100,000 years ago, going by Rush’s “launched 100,000’s of years ago” quote.
10 Kly/yr x 100K yrs = 1 Gly
We know that both of these values are under estimations.
At 10 Kly/yr it would take 10 years to get through our galaxy and 30 (edited, to 300) years to get to the next galaxy. The Destiny is clearly traveling much faster than that. And the Destiny was launched 50 million years ago from Earth.
____
And the high limit of 150 trillion light years? (150 Tly)
This is a very over estimation. They originally proposed that the Destiny would visit a new galaxy every season. So, assuming that the total time needed to travel through one galaxy, then crossing through intergalactic space and arrive in the next galaxy, took one season and one season is equal to one year. And assuming that the average distance between galaxies is 3 million light years. Then by using the total number of years since the Destiny was launched;
3 Mly/yr x 50 M yrs = 150 Tly.
But I think that it’s safe to say that the Destiny doesn’t travel that fast as they needed to travel continuously at FTL for 3 years to get from 1/4 of one galaxy through into the next galaxy, as per the last episode of the series.
____
I’ve decided to go with a more mostest figure of ~ 1 Tlys. It’s still low, but maybe the Destiny now travels at faster rate since there’s people above.
____
Rush is a mathematician and maybe an engineer, not an anthropologist or cosmologist.
____
The diameter of the observable Universe is ~ 93 Glys. With the lower limit regarding the Universe’s overall size being 250x larger than that of the observable Universe. So;
93 Gly x 250 = 23.25 Tlys
(The writers might have been having second thoughts in the later years in regards to the dating vs technological progression.)
My thoughts are that the Seed-Ship type Stargates were a sort of a cheap, starter gate. The automated SG seed ships mass-produced that type and dropped them on any world around their path through the Milky-Way and Pegasus potentially suitable for human life, and a team of Ancients would come around later and setup a high quality permanent gate if the planet worked out.
Awesome

I think the main problem was that I just didn't find any of the characters likable. I especially hated the fat kid, he was just annoying. If you don't like anyone on the show, then it becomes a chore to watch.
@@nodak81 I'm currently working on a remaster of this video, and at the same time I'm rewatching the entire series to know which scenes to choose from it. Watching it is much more enjoyable than the first and second time. While the characters' experiences may not touch everyone, the way it was filmed and directed is still well preserved.

boy, did they screw up what could have been a great show? almost every single episode ended up with some political BS or a threat from across the Universe from back home. hardly nothing was filmed about them searching this vast ship they were on. I mean nothing was explored except for one or two episodes. always the same old threat of some enemy and next to nothing about the unseen region of the universe they were in. you make a show based on a great premise but, then make it infighting of political views... frigging yawn me to death. a complete waste of what could have been really good. no wonder it just ended like shit.
In the comic that came out after the series finale, it turned out that in one of the parts of the ship there were living sleeping ancients, as well as equipment capable of repairing the entire ship completely. The fact that they themselves have not found this for so long is damn strange)
