I'm pretty much at the point I'm writing letters to A list actors. It's hard to think of who because I want to be genuine. I had an in person meeting with a financer and they finance the entire project and wanted to do this for 5M. I have 2 B list actors who's read the script and told me they cried reading it. I still feel very stuck. I also met with the film commission as well. I just feel stuck still there is this hump
Our follow up meeting is sometime next month they're also shooting like 3 other movies. So I know I'm not priority right now. It's just hard to know if you're over the hump or not
I also wanted to say. I only wanted to make this film for 500K. When I pitched the film all the executives wanted to give more because of what my pitch was. Its hard to explain. They wanted it more so they want it for 5M budget
Staying within the 250K budget range is excellent advice because like you said you can turn that budget into 650K and that is more than enough money to make a smash hit genre film and open the doors to attract more BIG FISH in the future.
Thank you for these videos. I'm thankful for you taking the time to help other filmmakers, as much of a niche as it is. The view counts are a testament of how few people are looking into this industry seriously, because your videos are pure gold and deserve much more.
This is the channel I've been looking for! Thank you so much for your generous and insightful videos Alexi - this stuff is pure gold and I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to share it.
Thanks! DG means Distribution Guarantee. This is the advance / guarantee the distributor will pay upfront for the rights to the film in your local territory. ROW MG means Rest of World Minimum Guarantee. This is the advance / guarantee the sales agent will pay upfront for the rights to the film in outside your local territory (i.e. rest of world). Hope that clarifies it!
Great details. For $2-3 mil, do you think it could make business sense to have one unknown and one A list (or almost A list) actor in a dual protagonist film?
The screenwriter of our film is also a hilarious actor and is tailor made for one of the leads but w just short, small tv and 2 small indie feature film credits
Post-production company that provides post services on the film. They can invest part of their fee back into the film. It's common practice in Australia, less so in America
Can you add like 30% Louisiana's and 25% New Mexico tax rebate and invest your own money for the rest of the budget? If they have no minimum. That is how I understand it so far.
Yes you can use multiple rebates, though you will only get money back for the expenditure in each state. And yes you can invest your own funds to cover the difference between the rebates and your total budget.
@@AlexiOuzas Thanks, I took a producing class at UCLA, but really didn't understand well enough. Now I am getting back into it again, I am going to Sundance coming up in 2 weeks for fun and hoping to meet some producers that I can have good chemistry with. I am focusing on action and comedy.
The last two videos have been pure value - excellent insight into the business of film. Great stuff, Alexi
Thanks for the feedback!

@@BountyRogueCinemax best of luck with putting this together, it sounds like you're making good progress. If you have any questions, let me know

Glad it was helpful! Will be putting out some fresh content soon.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks!
Could you give me the 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th best videos to bring up to the Hollywood producer ?
Great video, thanks!
Awesome video! In the "Type of Finance" column you have DG and ROW MG in the Marketplace section. What do those mean?

Could you share the spreadsheet on google docs?
Yes! I've added it to the description
Love the new thumbnails!
Thanks to you!

@@kitcassim4156 yes it would. One 'known' name should be enough to support the financing and sales of a $2-3m film.
I'm a little confused on where the "Post-production" equity is coming from??! Is that from a production company who you are partnering with?
Post-production company that provides post services on the film. They can invest part of their fee back into the film. It's common practice in Australia, less so in America

So on a 1 million dollar budget 300,000 + 200,000 I would have to put in 500,000 of my own or find additional producers?
@@SunMaximus yes - but you really need to prepare your budget and finance plan in more detail to get the exact figures
@@SunMaximus best of luck!
Why do you have grants in the spreadsheet?
I guess you could get money from non for profits.
You can access grants around the world. It's less common in the US but common outside the US.
