Even though I could never be able to afford to live in a place like this, let alone make those kinds of improvements, TOH has always been a calming source of entertainment for me as well as for tips on small scale projects I might do!
Ive been thinking that for years. Wish theyd show more of the structural framing being done from old to new. Being in the trades makes me curious to see how they go about it all. One hour long episodes would be great. Heck I would watch it for 2 hours lol!!
I suppose the stone corner cut off could then be used at the top or bottom of the wall because the flat edge would be beneficial for a clean start or end.
I really TOH and the people on it, but there has to be some reason why nearly every project is some gaudy monstrosity that no one could ever afford. They are turning the entire property into what looks like a mini mansion combined with the original house. Same with the Jamestown house, there has to be something better to focus on.
Can someone explain to me what restoration means? I see houses taken apart… like this one 60% if not more. What are you actually saving…”restoring the house”… when basically everything is brand new in the end. That “house style” could be easily copied in a new house… saving a ton of money…What I’m missing here?
Restoration is a catchall term in this application, the appropriate term is Renovation, taking the house, fixing it up, and modifying it to fit a 21st century lifestyle.
Don't need to see a homeowner picking out paint, wallpaper, cabinets, fixtures, etc....not interesting. Focus on the details of the deconstruction, construction and finishing process. Show the installation of the interior decorating but please not the selection of it. So boring.
They show that because selecting finishes is just as important as building a wall etc. Selecting the tiles informs the carpenters what type of backing that goes behind the tile whether it's dry wall ,concrete backer board etc .
As a supplier of ppe this is literally 70% of companies. Major things like tying into the roof joists for fall protection I do not see in the vast majority of Job sites I go to. I full disagree with you on this aspect, they are doing more than the vast majority of companies. Also osha regulations for high vis apparel is different in each state and site classification. Hard harts should be standard but they use them here and there I noticed.
I never get tired of these shows.
Absolutely love seeing Tom work with his son.
Thats his brother!🤣
@@jakebuttrick8853 ha ha well... thanks for letting me know. Appreciate it.

Brave, skilled, costly and always fun to watch and learn. Thanks!
Only problem is it the episode isn’t long enough

@PJJ296 The only problem either your troll comment is, it doesn’t make sense. Way to embarrass yourself!

9:42 please explain how will you sharpen a diamond blade!
Tommy. " If I can touch the ceiling it's low "
The blade goes away to the farm upstate at the end of the day :D
I got the wallpaper joke. His first appearance on the show.
Great project, love This Old House!
ty TOH for the full episode
Always loved this shoe & ask this old house.

whats the budget on this project? something thats never talked about
If you have to ask, you can't afford it lol. This is probably a million dollar addition
@@tacojohnhg8181you forget that they took 60%+ of the old house apart…
even if it is over a million give people a chance to see what it cost in 2024 to remodel@@tacojohnhg8181
@@tacojohnhg8181 If I could afford it, I would do a million dollar renovation too if it means having the This Old House crew work on my house.
I'd ballpark $1.75 million based off slightly smaller additions I've worked on

I prefer when they refer to the worker by name instead of he.
Why yall uploading old seasons like they’re new?
Because they want you to watch the new seasons on TV.

Too much shopping, not enough construction.
What annoys me the most (as a General Labourer myself) in this show is the lack of PPE in a bunch of the scenes! Safety vest, hard hats, gloves, etc!

Again, TOH features clearly millionaires. When will they show a basic, normal blue collar family renovation??
Never. They think it’s not good for views but in all actuality it would be better to see some work for normal people instead of rich people

Can somebody explain why subway tiles are so popular? Why would you want something that reminds you of a subway where it smells like human waste
It has to do with maintenance and installation costs
I could take or leave subway tile, but I definitely don't see it and immediately (or eventually) think of human waste.
@swagnilla_ice. Maybe they’re just that good? 🤣
