Totally agree with Jamie. I love when teams have their own philosophy, I love that Stoke was always boring sit in football but then United playing direct football and Barca and Arsenal playing quick close passing. Not a fan of teams playing the same all the time.
Exactly. Arsenal used to be creative, chelsea counter attack, liverpool long ball, United direct, Stoke caveman football but it was fun when everyone had thier own style. Sick of seeing teams that aren't good enough forcing themselves to play out from the back

I'm not reserving any judgement yet for Mourinho. It's still way to early and he's in a job where there's a lot of contractual issues behind the scenes.
Gary Neville my favourite one to listen to. Speaks clearly, simple, no BS and straight to the point. Doesn't ramble off on different tangents like Carrager lol
The reason why playing from the back had less success against past Pep teams and this Liverpool side is that they had maturity and discipline in the back. For Man city then, Kompany and Laporte made sure that the team was not as vulnerable on the counter and with this Liverpool the same could be said of Virgil and whoever he is paired with. Yet still this strategy sometimes work and it is not only about Mourinho. Liverpool dropped points to a ManU playing from the back and lost to a Napoli built around absorbing pressure.. Liverpool may have been the better team against Tottenham, but they were also lucky to grab the win.
No signings in 2 years. It was supposed to happen. It happened with much greater teams in the past. I remember when AC Milan dropped from a top team to a mid table team after a summer without signings. Pundits said when you don't improve the squad it will get weaker (compared to other teams who did improve their team).
@@-LAH I didn't say it was his fault. For sure he asked. The board is to blame about this. No signings because of the new stadium. At least it's what they said last season.
They don’t need new signings necessarily but they need a complete overhaul. They need to sell the likes of Eriksen, Kane, Lloris, etc, and rebuild. Their squad cycle ended after the UCL final. If they want to compete again, they need to rebuild
@@jsmarty1 ??????????????????????? Are you crazy? XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD LEts sell our best goalkeeper, our best striker and one of our best midfielders ... Sure First, think than post stupid comments ...
Major Mononoke Kane - brilliant striker with a massive ego, terrible leader. Probably can get 150 mil for him - sell. Lloris - not good enough anymore. Sell or demote to 2nd choice keeper. Sell Gazziniga: he’s average. Eriksen: sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell - he’s already downed tools. He’s not performing at all for Spurs - get as much as you can out of him otherwise he’s going for free. Dele Alli: sell. Great talent but poor attitude: sell. Alderweireld and Vertonghen: keep. Good leaders and are old as is. Few top clubs will want them anyway. Keep Son and Lucas: easily their best players. Sell Rose and Aurier: they’re genuinely crap. Keep Winks because he’s ok but he shouldn’t be starting. Use all of those funds to buy young, humble prospects, and one of two good veterans who can lead.
@@jsmarty1 agree with literally everything you said. They'll keep Kane though because they need to fill the quota of English players but they could make so much money from selling him. Oh, keep Sissoko too. Great work ethic. (Spurs have the MK Dons version of Dele right now)
Jose will grind out results against the best teams and bully the smaller teams with superior player quality and tactical play. However, Spurs were way off it yesterday and Jose knows that. He likely did not believe that the back 4+2 could thwart Liverpool's attacking 2-3-5, and that the team could recover well in high transitions - Liverpool are just too quick and skillful and that's just how it is. Keeping it to 1-0 and saying that "a throw-in and a Lo Celso missed chance prevented them from beating Liverpool" is enough for him to galvanize his players for the remainder of the season and provide impetus to their cup runs. Jose's "grind'em out" style of football is likely still effective; Even Atletico play the same type of low block-counter football and have had a lot of success in recent years. His biggest problem is that Klopp and Pep are taking turns to ratchet up 98+ points season after season, so a team that finishes with: P38 W26 D9 L3 P87 doesn't win a league title any more. Jamie is right in that they are probably 5-6 players away - they have to find a few workhorses in midfield and replace their backline and goalkeeper. Son, Kane, Moura, and Alli are enough to win PL's and CL's.
atletico have had an exceptional defense in recent years, and almost every player in the squad has solid defensive atttributes. if spurs regularly attempt the same style the outcome would be increasingly meager. we dont have the defensive quality to play such a style and retain success.
Isn't the whole point of Mourinho to bring instant success to a team? Normally I would say give managers time but when you have a guy who has built his entire career on starting fast then burning out after 3 seasons you have to say it's kind of worrying when he can't even start fast anymore. He's past his best IMO.
He took them half way through a season, most managers take a team the start of the season they get pre season and time before that to mess about with the players he had like 2 games to prepare before his first game yet nobody talks about this, people just hate mourinho 😂👍
Sorry lads. Regardless of new signings the first thing Mourinho will do at any club is get them organised and make them tight at the back. Since coming in Spurs have actually got worse at defending than they were under Pochettino. If that's not a clear indicator that Mourinho isn't the manager he once was I don't know what is!
@Gehn Saavedro In the first few weeks of Klopp's tenure he beat Chelsea away 3-1. This was at a time where Mourinho's Chelsea were difficult to beat. A couple of weeks later he beat Man City away 4-1. One of the few teams to thrash City that season. A month later he reached a League cup final, yes he lost, but there was forward progress. Liverpool were unable to pick up points against the big teams. This season Mourinho has played against Ole, Lampard, and Klopp and picked up 0 points. Picking up points against lower teams is expected of Spurs.
Klopp hadn’t failed in his last two jobs leaving toxic atmospheres at both and spent more than some countries. Is it too early? Of course, but he hasn’t been able to come in and solidify issues or make them harder to beat. It’s been patchy at best and we all know he doesn’t do well without outspending everyone. This is the last chance saloon and he’s already blaming lack of investment when he was made aware he’d have to do spend normal money like everyone else bar Pep. Complete fraudster.
If you want sucess as a manger now in the PL you have to give it 4 to 5 years look at Pep and Klopp they were given time for their projects and now 4 of the top 6 have new managers that 4 need at least 2 years to reach a level of winning the PL
I see what you're saying it was a freak spell. He transformed Tottenham though without hardly any financial backing for years on end while relying purely on his own ability to improve his players. I think they should have at least honored Pochettino with a decent cash boost to properly improve key areas which probably now after just walking into the job mourhino will miraculously spend. i think getting to the champions league final went to the boards head who just expected that thier jumble sale manager to continue pulling of the miracles
UK LAD yeah, he took Tottenham from nowhere to make them contenders and did so well in the champions league. They have to be ready to buy players when he needed them. Mourinho will need players too
When does Jamie Carragher realise that he's already said the same thing 3 times? The hostess does very well to bring their talking past each other to an actual point.
Get used to the sentence "He needs four or five players." I heard it before when he was the manager of MU haha😂 Don't make an excuse JOSE said Tottenham squad is way better than MU squad 🤣
Yeah... because it is. You can't tell me you'd take Maguire and lindelof over alderwiereld and Sanchez? Fred and mctominay over ndombele and sissoko? James rashford and martial over son Kane and Alli?
Levy hasn’t got a clue. It’s a repetitive cycle where you get the team playing and then you can sense that they are just going to fall apart. Success comes from everyone contributing at the club. The warning was there when he didn’t buy anyone in the 2018/19 season. The first thing you do when losing in the Champions League Final is to listen to the manager and bring in those players he wants at the club to go one step further. We have a bunch of clueless old men running the club who no doubt have loads of dosh but haven’t got a clue where to spend it. If you leave it to Daniel Levy he will go in interested in the player...but then sits down and negotiates a reduced price in the player...or reduce his wages.
Still putting his feet up on the beach waiting for another mug club to ignore he left with 29% win percentage, won zero trophies in 5 years and awful tactics that cost important games.
Slobadan Mikôcyábych LMAO he was a top bottler. As someone who endured a few seasons with Jose at United, I’m enjoying another predicted episode of spurs banter. Jose is absolutely finished.
@@JamesHussain82 Almost all of Utd signings? People think he's some kind of a genius. He's been past it for a long time. His archaic tactics don't work anymore

I cannot believe what I’ve just heard, spurs dealing with injuries, mourinho only 2 months into the club facing the best team in the world, only for the chances that were missed by spurs we aren’t talking about how he’s nicked a draw or even a win
It does make sense, you just haven't understood it. If Spurs played the way Poch played Carra thought they were 2 players away from winning the league. With Jose's style they need players to fit that mould so of course need more signings to make that change. You have to factor in also that Eriksen isnt the player at the moment that he was at his best under Poch.
Think of it this way. If you take over a company and want to take it in a new direction, but the current staff aren't skilled in that area, you're gonna need some new staff and to get them producing before you can even think about turning a profit.
Poch went head to head with levy regarding signings, their relationship became frosty as a result and without the backing of Levy Potch was sacked. Now you bring in Jose, and all of a sudden Levy wants to bring in players for Jose??? I don't get the logic from Spurs board. Jose will command a bigger budget than Poch would have wanted.
He’s done being the manager he once was, everyone could see the beginning of it at Real Madrid when he couldn’t beat Pep expect for the one year. The way his second stint at Chelsea ended he hasn’t been the same since.
Everybody knows the Mourinho way now. Pseudo mindgames and waiting for a counter while digging himself in. Good teams should easily counter that with a solid possession game and passing the ball around while players make runs all over the place. Good luck staying 100% focused during a whole game while Salah, Mane and Firmino keep changing positions.
steven 91 He got sacked the season after with them in 16th place. Since then his biggest achievements have been winning the Europa League, claiming the community shield is a trophy and finishing 19 points behind Man City while he was at United. He’s still a good manager but is that that the Mourinho of old who was considered the very best alongside Sir Alex in the 2000s?
Wtf the football that spurs played yesterday was way better than any performances I've seen spurs do in a long time about "to get back to where pochetino was" tf pochetino was telling his players they could have a break after they beat some low level team in the champions league last season. And that new defender japhet tanganga I think that mourinho played yesterday was class played really good against Liverpool a top team so I think Jose is doing very good. Spurs just didn't take their chances that cross from aurier to lo celso should of been a goal🤦🏾♂️
@@TheSaxon. If you watched the same game then you know that Liverpool got shut out completely. Salah and Mane were fully dominated. If Spurs had more accuracy in their finishing then they could've easily scored 3 goals in the 2nd half
@@TheSaxon. They weren't that comfortable as they were flagging towards the end (by Klopps own admission)..unlike Spurs. Gear-wise they were in 3rd imo.
This is damn near word for word what people where saying about Mourinho at United 2 years ago. Expect 2-3 major signings in the summer, and a great season for Tottenham next year, followed by the drop off. Everyone forgets that he's a negative manager and tactician. He will win, often by 1-0, he will bring big name signings, and it's always undone in the 3rd season because victory without a soul kills the club culture.
They should go for Ndidi in the summer and buy 1 decent wing back and 1 half center/wing back and a Kane Backup like Alario from Leverkusen or Alcacer if they can get him
Pochechino was already struggling. Think the team that beat Liverpool 4-1 about three seasons ago still had players in this weekends squad where as Klopp only had one. Theres been no progression under Pochs only backward steps. Its not Mourinos fault the state of the club but he'll get the blame
It's important to remember that Jose has had barely any time to work with these players on the training ground. This was the second time he's had a full week between games to work with his players, and there is already a massive difference and they played much better. There's no shame in losing to this Liverpool side, everyone is losing to them these days. What matters is how they actually played, and I think Tottenham did a great job defensively and had some great opportunities going forward that they should have really put away. That's better than most sides have done against this Liverpool team, and should give them a bit of confidence which it's clear the side need. Ultimately I think people are being way too critical of what is a very young side under Jose, Klopp didn't build his Liverpool side in a few weeks. Lets see where things stand further into his time at Tottenham rather than jumping to conclusions.
Tbh when klopp came the liverpool side was mid table and worse quality wise than this spurs side plus mourinho has already managed in prem whereas when klopp came it was his first time in the prem so mourinho has not got much of an excuse

Carragher and Neville have raised the bar in terms football punditry, analysis and personality. They feed well off each other. Without a doubt, they are the best by a proverbial mile.🥊👌x
I think Mourinho played the right game against Liverpool but the team didnt take enough of the chances against Liverpool! The fact is Liverpool only scored once so they held them off very well!!
Always said, Poch lost the final and ultimately the job the second the team sheet for the final was released, benching your semi final hatrick hero for an injured player was a moment of pure madness. I can tell you for a fact seeing Kanes name on the teamsheet put a smile on every face in Liverpool
Pochettino this, Pochettino that. Liverpool have won the last 4 games against Tottenham before this one. It’s not like Pochettino was dominating Liverpool every time the played. Is everyone forgetting Pochettino with the same players were being dragged into relegation battle and didn’t win away game for almost a year.
His point was that over the last 3 years it's not been an effective way of playing against City. Nearly every teams has tried to hit them on the break and City still amassed 198 points over two seasons, the only team to have a good record against them is Liverpool who play attacking against City. If you look at Liverpool with Klopp, most teams teams try to frustrate them and hit them on the break but in the last 18 months the only team that beat them was City and they did it by attacking and pressing Liverpool. Just to quickly go back to CIty, the counter attack has only been somewhat useful against them since they've had a centre back crisis. So his argument that sitting off teams to get points is gradually becoming less effective against the best sides in the league. So maybe, Jose Mourinho will have to adapt his style and become more aggressive to keep up with the points totals these teams as accumulating if he wants to win the title with Tottenham.
5 players? People were saying if Mourinho had the Spurs squad, he could easily challenge for the title compared to the United squad. Of course it needs improvement in midfield and fullback areas but 5 is pushing it. That being said, he set up Spurs the right way for that Liverpool game considering the injuries had.
Spurs fans will have to decide whether they want trophies or 'good' football. Also, I disagree with Neville using City as an example for progressive football. Sure, not many teams are successful against City when dropping deep but their attacking talent is utterly ridiculous. They are probably the best at it and using an outlier to justify his argument is stupid.
No, Mourinho did 100% the right thing and they know it, they just don't like it. What they are not factoring in is that Poch was pretty much all out of ideas by the time he left. Teams would come, sit deep, and we couldn't break them down. It was time for a different voice and a different strategy. I'm not saying it will work long term, but we were getting battered by the better teams. We weren't battered yesterday. As for the whole "they could have won the title", yeah but there's always another chance and we have to move on.
Mourinho needs four or five players to get back to where Pochettino was" During the next transfer window, Tottenham sign Højbjerg Hart Doherty Reguilón Bale Vinícius Rodon
@@jsmarty1 you have to be kidding me, he has 11 goals in the prem this season despite how poorly we're doing and has been one of our best performers and he's well known for being humble. Who would you get that would be an improvement on Kane then?
Joe White it’s not that you’d get an improvement on Kane, but long term, just from selling Kane, Spurs can make 3 good signings for about 140-160m. Theo Hernandez: LB, hot prospect from Milan, in brilliant form. Probably could get him for 40m. Bruno Fernandes: very good, fairly young midfielder from Sporting Lisbon. Probably around 60m. Timo Werner. One of Germany’s best players at the moment. Has a release clause with a max of around 50m. Get him immediately. Just from selling Kane, you’d get these 3.
Before Pochettino Tottenham was a middle table team , all we see now is his hardwork, instead of buying good players they built stadium , than this thankless club kicked him out.
do not worry, if he get a good player like Militao or Drogba plus Kane. Erickson will leave, change player number 8(he is not good enough to play for top 4 team), and get 2 proper midfielders - this team will be dangerous, because from defensive football to counter is the most plausible way. Liverpool win most games, because of fitness levels, not because they better set up tactically. Chelsea won Europa league by beating attacking football. Liverpool against Barcelona last year, pundits want to say that Liverpool was playing on front foot? They did not see the ball most of the time, especially first game. Tottenham in the final of Champions league final made a mistake going forward full force in the first 15 minutes.
Were these lot watching the same game? I think Spurs were brilliant today. They were unlucky and deserved at least a draw. Mourinho needs time he’ll prove everyone wrong.
@@kanelfc98 I think it goes without saying really. Yes he's not wrong but I mean it's like Michael Owen saying "you need to score goals to win matches". Every team could do with more signings
As a spurs fan, I think we need to start playing with 3 CB's. When Conte first came and started playing 3 at the back, i thought it was quite strange and different, but now i love the idea of it. Spurs have struggled recently with results, and i think that a back 3 would suit them more than a back 4 would. having Toby, sanchez, and tanganga playing as 3 CB's would be solid. allowing the wing-backs to attack more and deliver crosses in without having to worry as much. just my opinion. but i'm not the manager, so I just support my club and hope for results. However, one cannot excuse the lack of signings. look i get that the stadium was just built and we're tight on money, but we can still be cheapskates as we have been for a while now. take punts on young, promising players, and players that are out of favour.
Everyone was saying he has a better team than he had at United. Mourinho himself said he was happy with the players and team he had at spurs. And he is still struggling. Mourinho left Solskjaer a poorer squad at United an he inherited from Pochettino at spurs. Mourinho won't win anything at Spurs!!
Why would Norwich fans be happy if they got relegated? Results are the only thing that matters and you saying they're playing "good football" when clearly their position in the table says otherwise. Good football that gets you relegated isn't good football.
Ted Gebrekristos no I mean what he is saying is a hindsight. if Spurs got at least one point, he would praise Mourinho though they would discuss his football style. of course Liverpool created some big chances but Spurs as well.
I get what you are saying. Pundits are just as bad as the rest of us - results mean more than performance! Makes sense but there is a bigger picture and the last 2 months spurs have looked a better side than what they did at the end of poch's reign. They said it as much themselves when they admitted those tactics used to be praised. They were praised cos they worked. If chelsea conceded a few more chances and scored a few less then theor opinion would have been the complete opposite. All retrospective thinking and it winds me up a bit tbh
personally I admire what Jose tried to do against Liverpool he knows his team better than anyone and he knew that if he would go toe to toe with Liverpool they will tear them apart so rather go conservative and hope that chances such as Sons and Lo Celsos are tucked away, everyone would be hailing Mou if he took 2 or 3 points off Liv he kept them at arms length other than that good piece of footwork from Firmino it was an evenly balanced game
Lfc fan here, Spurs is always a hard game away from home. The new full back got taught a lesson by Bobby but overall he played well and will learn from it. Promising talent for Spurs. Son needs to hone his finishing but he is an amazing player.
Mourinho has'nt been pulling off any particular miracle , or even a very well done, solid season for 10 years now. He is more of " a name " than reality now. The exact opposite of Conte who, with the trust of the club management, would always get 110% out of anything he coaches.

who want's to see every team playing the same style, I loved what Jose did yesterday
Exactly. Arsenal used to be creative, chelsea counter attack, liverpool long ball, United direct, Stoke caveman football but it was fun when everyone had thier own style. Sick of seeing teams that aren't good enough forcing themselves to play out from the back

Mourinho has worked with his squad 2 months and hasn't chosen a single player for himself yet. Klopp has been practising with that squad for 5 years!
Not that exact same squad.

If he mentioned it he'll still be considered as biased so there's no winning in that for him
City were getting battered for the most of the first half by United.
ManU are the most dangerous team in a counter attack in the league. So you cannot compare Spurs counterattacking to ManU and this is coming from a Liverpool fan.

The team was gone Jan 2019 , no money given to the best manager Spurs have had for over 55 years, chairman should go .
No signings in 2 years. It was supposed to happen. It happened with much greater teams in the past. I remember when AC Milan dropped from a top team to a mid table team after a summer without signings. Pundits said when you don't improve the squad it will get weaker (compared to other teams who did improve their team).
@@JohnnyC01 That doesn't apply on Liverpool this year tho

Sky pundits at it again with the “this team needs 4/5 players” merchants.
I can't trust Neville's punditry on managers after his tenure at Valencia.
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
LEts sell our best goalkeeper, our best striker and one of our best midfielders ... Sure
First, think than post stupid comments ...
(Spurs have the MK Dons version of Dele right now)
Mourinho saw this title in the summer and said "ight, bet."
Swap those waters for pints of Carling you'd be watching any Weatherspoon's sesh
Isn't the whole point of Mourinho to bring instant success to a team?
Normally I would say give managers time but when you have a guy who has built his entire career on starting fast then burning out after 3 seasons you have to say it's kind of worrying when he can't even start fast anymore. He's past his best IMO.
instant success if you bring him in before the start of the season
He took them half way through a season, most managers take a team the start of the season they get pre season and time before that to mess about with the players he had like 2 games to prepare before his first game yet nobody talks about this, people just hate mourinho 😂👍
Sorry lads. Regardless of new signings the first thing Mourinho will do at any club is get them organised and make them tight at the back. Since coming in Spurs have actually got worse at defending than they were under Pochettino. If that's not a clear indicator that Mourinho isn't the manager he once was I don't know what is!
@@footballnerd277 you should better wait for sometime. Give him 1-2 seasons and he'll do good.

Klopp was making forward progress. Spurs are going backwards.
Spurs 31 points off the top....enough said.
@Gehn Saavedro trust me. Spurs are screwed mate.
@Gehn Saavedro
In the first few weeks of Klopp's tenure he beat Chelsea away 3-1.
Gary talking sense and in touch with reality, rare for him.
If you want sucess as a manger now in the PL you have to give it 4 to 5 years look at Pep and Klopp they were given time for their projects and now 4 of the top 6 have new managers that 4 need at least 2 years to reach a level of winning the PL

Pochettino knew the score

Well Said Jamie !! Go into Management !

Guardiola has lost games this season due to team playing that manner what is Neville talking about?
He said they won most, not all of their games. Listen up before you criticize!
Jamie 'I played here'. No you haven't.

Isn't that Carraghers answer for everything?
The best, most insightful comment comes from Gary right at the end
I think if Lo Celso and Son scored in their big chances and won 2−1, he would never say it.
I guess liverpool's chances don't count.
Chamberlain hitting the post, Van dijk point blank header, mane header don't count?
Ted Gebrekristos
no I mean what he is saying is a hindsight.
if Spurs got at least one point, he would praise Mourinho though they would discuss his football style.
of course Liverpool created some big chances but Spurs as well.
Agreed ❗
Lfc fan here, Spurs is always a hard game away from home. The new full back got taught a lesson by Bobby but overall he played well and will learn from it. Promising talent for Spurs. Son needs to hone his finishing but he is an amazing player.
Mourinho wasnt given good defenders when he was man utd manager but when he leaves ole gets two great defenders and hes still struggling
The squad Mourinho left Ole was crap compared to the squad he inherited from Pochettino!
Jose had a much much better squad to work with at Utd than Ole has.
@@Hedgebets100 ole got exactly the same squad
Mourinho has'nt been pulling off any particular miracle , or even a very well done, solid season for 10 years now.
He is more of " a name " than reality now.
The exact opposite of Conte who, with the trust of the club management, would always get 110% out of anything he coaches.
