@Dexter Dylan I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thank you for this video. This helped me do the same thing to my AR-300. I was wondering if you have any video as of it actually filtering the water? Did this end out turning out the way you wanted it to work. I can’t wait to get my first roller mat working. Saying goodbye to filter socks.
Nice mod. I am going to probably do that with a Trigger 39 sump I have that has been sitting for a while now. I plan on cutting the sock holder out even though its brand new once I do my bigger tank. I do currently have a Sk-5000 on my current system and you will find out the frustration I have with having the part that is screwed on the back of the sk-5000 lines up with the line that you now can't see for the used roll.
Thanks! as for changing the roll i see your point! Can you just slide the roll off leaving it attached? May solve that issue .. or maybe ill glue a tiny mirror to the back of the stand for alignment :P
@@ReefDudes The mirror idea for sure has me intrigued. Never thought about that. The other issue I have is I can never just slide off the roll for whatever reason makes me a little angry but I have had to unwind it off the roll every single time. I can't seem to figure out my issue so as of right now that will not work. If you have any tips as to why the paper will not slide off let me know very frustrating.
@@freedomaquatics6328 its right as its constantly compressing but i can generally put my thumb on the center motor part and slide the external sleeve/roll off

Pretty sweet little sump for sure! I’m considering that filter roller..and was curious about having the siphonic drain connected directly to Clarisea intake. Does that have an affect on purging air out of the drain line when return pump turns back on?
Planning on doing this exact mod but I have a question. What do you have draining into the second pipe? I have a single durso style overflow so I'm not sure what I would put to fill up that chamber. I don't plan on using a refugium but would still like that chamber to fill with water for my algae scrubber.
@@ReefDudes with having only one drain line how would you recommend I get my refugium chamber to fill up? since there won't be any water in that first chamber with using the clarisea. I was thinking of either T'ing off of my main drain Into the second drain or drilling some holes from the filter sock chamber into the refugium chamber. Any ideas ?
Super nice! How did you attach the magnet to your dosing pump? Is there anything inside the dosing pump that could react negatively to the magnetic field?
The housing is metal so it just worked! (super easy!) I dont believe the magnets should have a negative impact on anything as i have mounted many pieces of gear this way on my prior tanks.,
The whole system looks amazing but 2 questions, do you think cleaning under the fuge area is going to be possible and what tool did you use to cut for the roller
@@ReefDudes that's good to know, I might grab one of those, it looked like something people use to cut drywall. Maybe different blades for different surfaces. I'm sure you'll figure out something amazing to clean that area, snails are probably a great idea
Only great thing about this pandemic is having extra time to slowly watch all of your old videos and take some notes. Have you always been a DIY person or did you have some skill level before hand, making mods and such alittle less intimidating?
I like building things. When I was young I loved to take things apart and figure out how they work... so most things are not to hard to figure out.. and hey if someone else can figure it out why can’t I?! ;)
Awesome vid! Super helpful Devin. Do you have any recommendations for a sump that would fit a RS peninsula 500 and accommodate the Clarisea 5000 without requiring DIY, drilling, and so forth? Essentially looking for a peninsula friendly sump that will take a roller filter nicely :)
Look at the "triton method" sumps as the tend to have big open spaces in the first chamber. RS doesn't list the external sump dimensions so you will have to measure but for a few ideas www.saltwateraquarium.com/filtration/refugium-sumps/sumps/?aff=8
Might not be a bad idea to paint or seal the back of the cabinet. it does not look like solid wood and would not want it coming apart and weaken the stand
Great Video - Any updates on the Eshopps sump modification? How did you determine what height to use for the filter roller? After using it for a while, would you recommend the Eshopps sump?
@@ReefDudes I have a Cad Lights 70g tank which is 36". I wanted a 24" sump to save on real estate. The Eshopps R100 only has a 4" sock (opening too small), the ADV-100 is 24" and has a 7" RECTANGLE sock (hole still too small), looks like I have to go with the R-200 30" with the 7" circle sock. That's the only one with an opening big enough to modify. You rock. Your vids have been helpful. Thank for Sharing.
@@ReefDudes I just realized that only part (seemingly half) of the flow from the tank is going thru the filter roller. And it seems like your second drain pipe is fed directly into drain chamber, thus feeding into the refugium (unfiltered). I noticed this as I was setting up my tank, which has a Herbie overflow and only one drain. I planned to bypass the drain chamber and go thru the wall, as you did, but then I realized that there would be no water in the drain chamber, and no water going to the refugium. Your thoughts?
@@DartFrogDojo you prob could let it fill the back columns and most will go to the filter, som ewill overflow out (dont connect the pipe but just have the bulkhead into the back)
@@ReefDudes Ha - I just read your reply. Been working on this all day and I came up with the same idea. :-D Gonna use 1.25 threaded bulkheads to connect the overflow chamber to the filter roller. I'm using the Bubble Magus medium roller, which has an exposed motor. So, the bulkhead for the filter roller intake will be only a few inches below the overflow. I plan to do a forum and video build thread. Thanks again Deven.
Hey Deven, been watching your videos for a little while now and love them. Very informative. This office tank build looks awesome and cant wait to see it loaded with livestock. Do you have any concerns with the waste side of the rollermat rubbing on the side of the stand? How does this return water to the refugium? I don’t understand how it gets water back into the chamber that you plumbed past.
