- Note: It appears that the checkmate at the end of this sample game is NOT CORRECT. The Commander can actually escape by boarding his own AirForce unit.
This is the second sample game of this new chess variant, invented by the distinguished Vietnamese war veteran Colonel Hải Nguyễn Quí. A sophisticated application of realistic modern war strategy, adapted to a chessboard. Complex, active and eduactional. Introduced to the English-speaking world by AncientChess.com.
Love this demonstration. Gives more of an Idea of actual play. Thanks.
Quang Đức Nguyễn sends this comment:
AncientChess In the 2nd game of Commander Chess: Determined Victory Squadron, I see the blue anti-aircraft gun went next to the red airplane, but the plane still flew out of the gun and it wasn't shot down. I think this is the rule: (maybe my English is bad) About anti-aircraft gun: if the airplane takes off at the border of the fire circle (Colonel Hai's word for the protected space in the sky) and doesn't fly across it again, it will be safe. About the missle: if the airplane is 2 space orthogonally from the missile (border of the circle) and doesn't fly across the circle again, it will be safe. if the plane is in the circle, not the border of the circle, it must be landed, or be shot down immediately. The missle also controls 1 space diagonally, I'm talking about 4 diagonal dots, if you draw a circle demonstrating for the range of the missile, you will see the 4 dots is located in the circle, so all of these 4 dots are also located in the circle, an airplane locating there must not take off. About both Aa and Ms: an airplane can capture Aa or Ms despite where the plane is locating.
Thanks for this detailed comment. The action described takes place starting here at 01:30.
What is being discussed is a fine point (but an important point) about Air Force units landing on and flying from points that are just on the edge of the circle zone covered by an Anti Aircraft or Missile piece.
The basic rules can be found here, for printout: veryspecial.us/free-downloads/AncientChess.com-CommanderChess.pdf
You will note that this detail, described by Quang Đức Nguyễn is not covered in that booklet.
Thanks, Quang Đức Nguyễn!
At the moment 2:40 of the video when the red plane capture the blue militia and leaves the red commander in check i did not understand because the red commander was inside the fire circle protected by the missile this happened because he became hero plane thank you may Friends
3:02 commander can move to aircraft, no checkmate
Interesting. I'll have to look up the details of rules again ...
@@AncientChess thanh you
@@hienvo3518 I have sent your question to Colonel Hai, and will let you know when I get a response from him.
I think it may be that a piece cannot go from being on the Headquarters onto another vehicle -- but I do not know. I will wait for the Colonel's response.
I have received this answer from Colonel Hai, creator of the game: "Applying the rules of playing piggyback pieces, the commander can get on the plane to rescue.
Thanks youQuy Hai"
From this, I understand that you are correct! The escape by AirForce is possible, so this is not checkmate. I will put a not in the comments above. Thanks!!
@@AncientChess thank you very much
can't the blue commander move onto the aircraft beside the headquarters
Yes, please see the note above. I believe this was a mistake when this game was published.
