We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. So go ahead and take a whack at that subscribe button if you'd like to join us on this crazy ride. Get ready to learn and be inspired!

The best part about your squash and veggies....not sprayed with Katie Perry and Bill Gates Apeel!!!!
I've seen Michelle being very consistent and explicit in the vast majority of your videos, constantly specifying "my garden", "my peppers", "my babies", my this, my that.
Shouldn't it be "our garden", "our peppers", "our babies", "our homestead" etc.? Just wondering because Codi seems like a helping hand and not much else.
Your squash is fantastic! For some reason, my female flowers wouldn't open at all. I got tons of male flowers, just a few females, but most of the flowers stayed small & tight. I couldn't even open them by hand. This was on all my squash - zucchini, yellow straightneck, delicata, butternut, and even my pumpkins. Any ideas?
@@NewbsGPSeriously? That's all you take away from their very informative videos?? How much time do you spend in the garden?
¹@@NewbsGP
This family is spiritually and wonderfully filled! Their videos are SO peaceful. I’m a seasoned nurse, over 30 years, and I watch their videos just for mindfulness. ❤️❤️🥰🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽Their videos just bring me peace. ❤️I also love the way they shelter their kids visually. They are PERFECT with only showing what they need too for all of us to see that the kids are a part of this wonderful life. Keep doing YOU “More Than Farmers Team!” Excellent job and many Blessings❤🙏🏽
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy the videos!☺️
I totally agree.😊
I agree 100% very seasoned homesteaders💖💚
EXACTLY what I would say to my mom when I would be chatting away about their videos. I guess I finally piqued her interest because now she says to me: "Did you see this week's episode of MTF?"
:)
Agree,👍
Has anyone else noticed the beautiful videography and editing skills of this channel? Honestly, I could watch it without sound and still love it. But then I would have missed Michelle's cute giggle while tossing berries to the ducks.
Thanks so much!😄
Yes!!!! It is such a great "show" because of that! I love the quality of the videos and editing so much. I love michelles teaching ability. I just love these two so much and am so proud of them when i watch them haha!
Philippians 1:9-10 NKJV💝💝💝
[9] And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, [10] that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 💝💝💝
The camera doesn't shake, the camera rolls gently, no boring scenes.... Different than others. Winner!
You two make the most ADORABLE couple. You are living the life that I would dream of having when I was young. I am now almost 67 and doing it on my own. Turkeys, chickens and a garden that feeds me all year long. The only thing I have to buy at the store is dairy. I can butter and milk. I have rhubarb, black raspberries, grapes, blueberries and tons of strawberries. If I had a handsome husband when I was young.....Man I would have felt so BLESSED!!!!! You two are BLESSED!!!
Thank you! Wow that’s great!! Way to go!😊
You are blessed too. I’m 67 also and living on 5.5 acres. We have goats. We’ve had chickens but plan to get more (20 probably) in April. Now we may get a calf. We have gardening going on all over the place, including an orchard, several long rows of grapes, blackberries, cherries, pears, plumquat, plums, etc.
I just came here to say, you two have one of the best homesteading channels on UA-cam.
Thanks so much!😊
I agree 👍
A tip from an old gardener: You don't necessarily need to water every day, in a drought. If you water 2-3 a week, but water A LOT when you do, letting the water go deep into the ground, that's going to a. save you some time, and b. cause the plants to root in more deeply, searching for that water ... which makes for stronger plants in the long run. You actually save a bit on water, too, since water that's deep in the soil doesn't evaporate as much in the summer heat.
Hi! I've been binge watching your videos. Love them! I'm getting so anxious to start gardening again this year. Do you have any tips on how to keep the rabbits out of your garden? They have been so bad the last couple years. Thanks for the help 😊
I have literally spent the last 2 weeks watching your Chanel. Iv started right at the beginning and Iv nearly watched all the way through! I’m obsessed! I love how honest you are! About getting overwhelmed, about how hard it can be, about the mistakes u make along the way! I’m trying to learn to grow at home and keep making mistakes and then I get so upset and beat myself up thinking maybe I’m just not cut out for it. But your Chanel has given me so much hope. I’m not a homesteader but any means but I just want to learn to grow for myself and my family. I also have a full time job so can’t always give it as much time as I’d like too but I have hope and all your tips and tricks are so helpful. I think maybe I try and do too much at once so slow and steady will be my mantra moving forward. God bless u both and your honesty. I’m so glad I found u x x x
Welcome here! So glad to hear our videos have been helpful! That’s wonderful that you are doing what you can. Keep up the good work!😊
I wish I had a friend just like you to walk alongside me as our family of 7 works towards transitioning to this lifestyle. None of my friends really cares about any of this but I think it's all amazing! Thanks for all the info and inspiration!
Good luck to you....what an amazing adventure for you and the kids. Maybe you need some new friends...lol. A support system is SO helpful!
Here's an easy sausage recipe: mix in 1-2 T of ground sage, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cayenne, a little sale, pepper, garlic powder into a pound of ground chicken. Form into patties and cook in the skillet until done. Can be refrigerated and reheated for a quick breakfast or frozen for another time.
I live in northeast Ohio (Summit County) and I planted two butternut squash plants at each end of my raised bed. This was my first time growing them and so far I’ve harvested 20 squash and there’s at least 20 more to harvest here in the next two weeks. Mine are also between five and six pounds each and I’m so happy with this harvest. I’m definitely growing them again next season. I had zero problems with pests. I’m always inspired when watching your videos and I’ve learned a lot from them, especially since you are in Ohio like me, it encourages me to try new techniques.
Wow that’s awesome!!
This video could be a professional tv show! Your content is always so good but the editing is really amazing. So nice to watch!
Really appreciate that, thank you!😊
They must have been Hollywood graduates.
@@rollinghillsslo 😂 Country kids learning as we go. But thank you ☺️
We don't get much rain in the summer. To keep the garden alive, I bought a timer and sprinkler. I set it to run very early in the morning so less water evaporate off. This has saved me hours and hours of watering time.
It is such a joy to see young homesteaders. All the channels I watch, almost everyone has greying hair (not because of the work, just their age). From a fellow Buckeye, keep doing what you're doing. God bless.
I really appreciate that you say.."in my opinion ". It is so refreshing to not have someone say, you should do this or that.
This family is filled with such spirit and pure awesomeness! Their videos are truly peaceful. Watching them brings me such a sense of calm. I also love how they protect their children through the way they film. They are perfect at showing us just enough to remind us that children are a beautiful part of this incredible life. Keep being YOU! Great job and many blessings to you!
Thank you so much!☺️
One of the things I enjoy about these videos is the remembrance and continued practice of forgotten storage techniques. Maybe I live under a rock, however it's not something I see or hear about all the time. Monoculture and the large grocery chains have spoiled us. I'm glad to see families such as this being a good example of living off the land.
You bless MY heart with your sweet videos. I was born on a farm in Illinois 72 years ago. Seeing your adorable family working together touches me and reminds me of a proud life my family had. THANK YOU for the work you put into taking and editing your videos. Blessings upon you❣️Sharon
Absolutely! Thank you!😊
I have been gardening and canninng for several years. Ever since I started to watch your videos, I have learned new ideas and ways to preserve my harvest. Thank you for the many ideas.
You’re welcome! Glad we could help!😊
It's always amazing how much your wonderful videos ground me after a long day at work. Thank you for that. You put so much work into your videos, I appreciate it so much. I am constantly learning and in doing so you not only enrich my garden but also my life. I look forward to every single video from you and am also happy about your great harvest. Have a nice week.
So glad to hear it!😊 Have a great week!
I'm in NC and we are a month plus ahead in our seasons. Trees are already turning in the mountains and never before this time of year!!! My Trees are already turning!!! Low 50's at night Here in the Piedmont.
Speaking of drought, I haven't yet noticed if you are collecting rain water. I have noticed this helps.
I’m from Australia and love watching all your videos. I would love to see more of Michelle’s herbal remedies.
you are my go-to homestead channel. Love to watch everything; very inspiring. You have so much energy though I don't know how you keep up with all the work but then I had more energy and worked all day when I was younger too. Wondering why you do so much wheelbarrowing when you have the tractor, but to each his own. I'm especially surprised that you don't seem to have any wasps or yellow jackets on your raspberries. That is always a problem for me, even with the traps catching thousands. You are very lucky there, but then I don't have any squash bugs ! Really love your basement cooler area too. Wish I could do that also but it's not an option. We all do the best we can with what we have. I have picked up some ideas from you like the green bag you wear when collecting produce. Tried it today with my bowl inside of it for picking raspberries. Works much better than what I was using. Have you thought of using Home Depot racks on your porch for drying things? Might give you more space for drying. keep up the good work and lifestyle. By the way, you mentioned you were going to get sheep. You will need to shave the wool every year or hire someone....just making sure you have considered that. God bless
You all have a ton to do every day!!! Both of are very knowledgeable about all that you do or you just admit that you just don't know yet. It's so nice when your children help with what ever is needed. Great video. Thanks.
The superb canning lids just feel better. They are thicker and the ring of stuff is thicker also. I just feel they are so much better than the ball lids. I also like the fact that they are made in America.
It's my understanding that ball is still made in America. A lot of people do not think this.. correct me if I am wrong though.
PS, outstanding results from your garden and homestead this season. Well done.
I'm burned out and battered, but my spreadsheet reveals that I've gotten $1,559 more that the money I put into my garden this season, and that number will grow. That's free, organic food my family has enjoyed. That's worth the slog.
Wow!! That's amazing!
Thanks! That’s awesome! Hope you can get some rest and recovery.😊
Absolutely LOVED watching Michelle process her herbs! This is my first year growing them and I know I've missed out on harvests simply because I didn't know what to do with them. I probably harvested at the wrong time, but I finally took the plunge and dried some basil (VERY small leaves) and lemon balm. I got maybe a few tablespoons dried. I now have some peppermint, chocolate mint, spearmint, sweet lemon mint, thyme, and oregano drying. Next is catnip, sage, and rosemary. THANK YOU!!!
That’s great! Keep up the good work!
@morethanfarmers Can't wait to see how you use them - making medicinal teas, salves, tinctures, etc. Had to find an old video just to see how you harvest them. Seemed easy enough. Now just to work on timing.
I just discovered your videos. I am writing from Italy, I just bought a old house with a small plot and I am planning of building up a small vegetable garden (nothing like your great production!) so I am learning here and there. Your videos are so nice! I would love to be able to do even a small portion of what you do in my future. As per now... you keep being inspirational !
Welcome to the channel and thank you! Best of luck to you with your garden!😊
I love your waterer and feeder setup! Looks like it is great for keeping the hot sun at bay during the warmer months. It also gives them a place to hide from those pesky hawks.
I've been watching your videos, you're a kind of regenerative farming and without tilling you won't have to worry about your crops because the soil did his job maintaining nutrients and moist beneath the ground. You did a good job on taking care of your soil.
The technique you introduced at [9:45] is really creative! I’ll try applying it to my farm right away. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!😊
Love these kinds of videos!! I also watch Little Mountain Ranch…she has huge gardens and high tunnels, cows, horses, chickens, and cats. She takes us along when she harvests also. So much fun to watch y’all in your gardens!
Hello once again from Australia! Sorry to hear you've been in a drought, may it break soon!
It was really calm and nice to see a tour of your property at the moment. My children enjoyed this episode too. It was a good tip re how you watered your fruit trees filling a bucket on top and letting the water leak through the hole slowly. May I suggest you may like to clear the grass roots from around the base of those trees as they send out side roots and mulch on top - but you probably know that anyway so don't mean to tell a grandma how to suck eggs. So beautiful to see the preserves, my wife and I were excited for you looking at that, I bet it feels sooooo good to look at (hard work in bottles) and it is something you rejoice in and are thankful for! God bless you guys and looking forward to more as the seasons change and the trials / victories do too.
Apple mint is my favorite tea too!!! ❤ have u ever tried it cold? I add a little save and lemon verbena and sometimes pineapple sage. Add honey and lemon juice and chill. Omgggg it’s so addicting. I drink a whole pitcher myself everyday lol
The farm looks amazing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I live in California & love your video’s. ALL the canning, you do, you are such a trooper!! I was raised on an almond & walnut ranch. My Dad had another ranch of peaches & apricots, we didn’t live there, had renters. We canned a LOT of the fruit & gleaned tomato fields & canned a lot of tomato juice & chunks. I didn’t help in the nut harvest but we cracked out a lot to eat & bake with! We didn’t have a garden, yours is absolutely amazing!! I’m 85 yrs old, I help my daughters can, it is fun to still be a little involved! 😊
I appreciate how well you address common gardening mistakes and how to avoid them.
Thank yall for the video. LOVED seeing the homestead. Butternut squash for the win! And how about that basil mini-tree!? All the herbs and storage(and gallons and gallons of bounty you guys canned- i stink at canning. And us eating what i canned.just pulled somw jars from 2007. Lol) is wonderful, and amazing.
Good work!
We had a swarm of bees move into a hollow in one of our trees lasted spring. They're still there as of yesterday. We are doing our best to learn how to help them overwinter here.
(- thank you Google and youtube and all the folks who post there)
...
wow what an awesome channel ! Michelle you are quite simply inspirational. Keep up the good work guys.
Thank you so much!
I'm so grateful to have found your channel almost from your start the peace an honesty in your videos is what keeps me not only coming back but rewatching older video.. Michelle's honesty is so heart felt as I feel the same way❤❤❤🕊️
Toulle (like a ballerina skirt) works really great for keeping critters and pets out of your garden. I place it over my grapes this year, i only got 3 grapes last year something ate all of them. This year i have bunches galore.
Another Wonderful video! 💛You Two make a great team and one beautiful aspect is how LIKEABLE Both of You are! I feel peace and serenity and look forward to every video. Thank You for Sharing our beautiful homestead life with us!💖💚
Thank you so much!☺️
I get so much joy watching your videos and so inspired. Have a very small garden but do what I can with it. You make me dream bigger. Best wishes and prayers for increase in your health wealth and success ❤️
Glad to hear it! Keep up the good work!😊
Chamomile and ginger help my kiddos with flu/vomiting. The ginger helps with the nausea. My kids also enjoy peppermint tea (we need to try the chocolate peppermint!)
Again the best!!!! I can't say enough, awesome harvest!!! See y'all next week ❤❤❤❤❤❤
So many accomplishments & lovely family! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
Thanks!😊
Yall harvest is so beautiful and amazing! We put our house on the market and didn’t plant this year so my only gardening has been herbs-flowers-perineals - self seed and my chickens pooped out some tomato plants🤪 Therefore I’ve lived vicariously thru you and enjoying my year of rest!
I still have 3 butternut squash left from last yr😱. I’m just amazed!
Thank you! That’s great!😊
By far my favorite homesteaders to watch!
Thanks!😄
If you want to use up your ketchup, make a pot roast. I put a pint of ketchup and a pint of onion soup or onion soup mix( add water) halfway, season with garlic powder too or any seasoning to your liking. Cook on the stove top or crockpot on low for several hours. Meat melts in your mouth .
I really love not only your homestead but also your videos. Really nice editing and videography. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!😊
Hi Michelle you can try to make basil salt if you still have fresh basil,I tried it last season it was allsome,I actually wished I made a lot !
Watching from Northern New York. You all are such hard workers and what an awesome homestead! Love your videos😊 God bless
Thanks so much!😊
Thanks
Your garden is thriving under your care! 🌻
Talking about butchering old chickens, last fall we butchered the in laws old chickens & slow cooked them in the big cast iron kettle overnight on the fire, an it was delicious the meat just fell off the bones we it canned for soups, then we also had broth was such a winner!
Nice!
Your family should write a cook book! I would love to have your recipies. Let themids draw the pictures it would be a fun project!
12:08 You did an amazing job with this video, I loved it!
Thanks!😊
Learning so much about veg planting, harvesting, and storage from you guys! It's like being pre-prepared for my own journey! Thank you!
Absolutely! Glad we could help!
"Such an informative video! I never knew farming could be this innovative. Keep up the great content!"
Basil infused oil is delicious drizzled on salad or even a caprese salad. It makes a great gift too!
Great job! Thanks for all the updates!!! 🎉🎉🎉 The place looks amazing. You guys are doing a great job. You can't do it all. It's a farm. It will never be all done. I'm excited to see how the sweet potatoes turn out. I thought you had to wait till night before fall frost. You guys teach me something new every time. Again, awesome job!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!😊
LOVE watching and learning from you guys! You do SUCH good work! I check in weekly to get any updates. Keep doing the incredible things that you are doing and inspiring the rest of us 😍
Thank you! Appreciate you following along with us!😊
Your cattle would eat the dried corn stalks and save you on buying hay for sure. Of course you can pick the sweet corn ears first. If the corn turns too hard, that can be feed also for the chickens too.
Michelle .... I have no squash bugs this year! I have no idea why. I had such a problem the last few years that I decided to only grow I squash plant (Italian zucchini) and it's HUGE! And no bugs!! Wish I could show you a picture of the plant. Actually, hardly any bugs this year. Interesting.
As always, GREAT VIDEO!
Wow that’s awesome!😊
Your farm looks amazing and you have become such a wealth of information and skills. Well done wonderful humans!
Thank you so much!😊
Hey guys it would be helpful to post where you are, region-wise.
Thanks
Glad to see more like minded folks here
We are in central Ohio, zone 6a.
Since you are a tea person ;)... I have an evening tea I love. It's great for the nervous system too! Lemon balm, calendula, a little mint, lavender and chamomile. Local honey... so relaxing!
Sounds lovely!
I made your BBQ sauce for the first time yesterday. It was a hit! I didn’t have any coconut aminos, and have no idea of the flavor of it, so subbed 2 heaping TBs of brown sugar and a pfffft of yellow mustard. I also added about a quarter tsp of chipotle chili powder. My husband, Mr. Picky, liked it. Win/win!!
Yay! That’s awesome!😊
I am in zone 6B, Souotheastern Indiana, and I am growing many spices. Try adding lemon balm and lemon verbena for teas and lemonades. I've also found a trailing rosemary that I can grow in the corners of my raised beds and they will hang over the edge. My apple mint got some kind of mildew that I cannot kill and I bought it at a garden center. I have fresh seed that I purchased and will grow it from seed next year.
Thanks so much for all the footage on herbs....makes me want to up my game with herbs next year!
You guys!! Those Butternuts are crazy good, I have never had ones so big, maybe one day 😅 Thanks for the video, loving it.
Hello from Fly Ohio! South eastern Ohio 5 miles from Ohio River. Liking your channel. We finally got some rain yesterday. About an inch. Garden was happy!
Love, love, love your videos--we are from California where we don't get rain after March. We may get rain in November-March. Weather is wonderful, though-no humidity or bugs.
I am so wishing for weather that is not 90-100 degrees so I can begin my fall garden and get those beautiful green plants!
Yall are so wholesome and pleasant to watch. :) Congrats on all your success! Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you so much!
You guys do an excellent job raising food and have a great family.
Thank you!
Since you love herbs, you'd love dried dandelion root. Dig it up, clean it, let it try out, chip it up, and put in oven 350 for 30 minutes. Grind that up further, and you've got a nice coffee/tea filler that to me tasted like chocolate.
I just learned that you can eat sweet potato vines like greens. I tried it and it’s delicious. Just season however you like.
That was a monster squash. Congratulations on a successful crop this year!
Grandma says: if you want a soft loofah harvest it green, peel and dry… if you want a hard loofah wait until it’s skin is brown and dry then peel and shake out the seeds!!!!…you can also try for an in between hardness!!! 😊
Thanks for the tip!
Great video family, always a play pleasure watching you once a week videos come out on Mondays. Thank you for sharing. Till next time God Bless.
Thanks!😊
Try those young sweet potato leaves, blanch them and put in tomato salad. Pack with vitamins and taste good.
I watch lots of different types of content, I’m not sure what it is about your content, but it’s one of my favorite channels I always enjoy your content. I’m from south central Pennsylvania so our weather is similar. I wish you guys the best.
Glad to hear it!☺️
I love the way you guys do your videos. So informative. I also watch Sage and Stone Homestead and a smaller homestead channel, Yellow Door Urban Homestead. So helpful.❤
Michele ,,,here in nc we had a terrible drought this whole summer ,,I have a well and two hundred tomato plants and this summer my power bill was 350 a month and during a normal summer with little or no watering it’s usually 140 a month,,,so we feel your pain. August was a great month with 6 inches of rain so we got some relief.
Thank you guys
I’ve had a great year for cucumbers. I tried your pickle recipe. My first time to make pickles and we love them!
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
Binge watching Sunday, 5 video’s I missed, thanks🙌🏼
You guys are absolutely wonderful to watch
We might be moving our milk cow too!! Glad you can still get milk.
I don't grind my herb leaves until using them to help keep the flavor a bit stronger and longer.
Nana always used old hens for soup and stock.
I have a question about the drying rack. Do you not worry about dust or bugs/spiders on the herbs. I can get a layer of dust on surfaces after a day in my house, so that's all I can think about when I see you drying herbs lol. Am I over thinking it and a little dust won't hurt me?? I know the zipper pouch drying rack will prevent bugs, but what about dust?
Wow!! those butternut squash are a beauty. Love love them!!
You two are inspiring! Keep up the good work.
Idea for your Join community. how about a quarterly PDF with all the tips, tricks, how to, etc. in an organized place? This would be a great value that would mostly come from your scripts.
Great video. Full of info as usual 😊.. Thank you for sharing. Ps. The herb drying racks are great tool.
Can you please do an entire "medicinal gardening" video plus recipes?🥰🥰
I look forward to watching your videos. Your butternut squash looks amazing!
Man up Cody. That's so funny. Love you guys. Much love from Appalachia Kentucky.
