Forget about text-based telescope Hand Controllers. The best way to learn and navigate the sky is via a Planetarium App on your phone or tablet.
Planetarium Applications, such as SkySafari, can teach you all about the sky even without a telescope.
Hooked up to your telescope (via a wifi interface, which are becoming commonplace in computerized mounts) they really open up the sky to you.
Rather than having to go by a Tour (not a bad feature included in some mounts) or by preparing an observing list ahead of time, you can see what your scope is pointing to via a detailed map of the sky. A cross-hair/target symbol floats through the map.
If you know what you want to see (by catalog number or Common Name) the Planetarium App will point an arrow next to your cross-hair/target indicating the direction to push your scope. GoTo mounts will actually go there for you.
It's a great, simple, and education interface to the universe!
