- Malaysia has installed Sultan Ibrahim from Johor as its 17th king, in a grand ceremony at the National Palace in Kuala Lumpur. The traditional event attended by hundreds of guests showcased the rich history of the Malay sultanate. Afifah Ariffin tells us more.

Installed?. I never knew a king is some kind of app... What happen to "crowned" ?.. Is there a good reason to use term "installed" In this day and age?. So the king before this has been uninstalled then?
You are over thinking it. For one it could a translation of their own terms. For another installing refers to an authority or another group setting up governments or in this case rulers. Such as a geographic power installing a chosen ruler in a client state such as in Machuria with Japan. Or a a military coup establishes a junta.
However I will grant that this term has a certain western Chauvinism. Their kings are crowned or ascend to a throne. Prime ministers appointed and President sworn In. 😊

I knew that some words are more then just for one context only. But still could be better for them to use a term that already known by the viewers...
@saktinoinoi8026 that is why I granted in the end the low key chauvinism of the word installed. It implies a lot of times an imposition. Like USA installing a pro USA dictator in South Korea. A painful trauma for that nation after the trauma of the second world War under Japan and then the Korean and the many regimes installed by the USA.

Congrats, to who ever this guy is. I'm more familiar with the prime minster then the royal family of Malaysia,
I wonder why we still have kings and queens when most of them do not actively hold power to lead countries, that falls to the prime minister mostly.
Tradition, and also for ceremonial. Agong is also part of malay culture and the best part according to 75% of malaysian citizen. This culture make the people of the state feel honor and such more.
If the government runs smoothly, the kings have not much to do. The previous king however had to deal with one of Malaysia's worst political turmoil bringing back relevance to the national palace when it was needed most - to be the payung rakyat (umbrella of the people). Ultimately, the king's word if even ceremonious, is VERY influential. Sultan Ibrahim has the burden to earn the respect of the nation as the previous king did.
