Ich habe Ende der 90er ein paar Jahre lang kaum noch Metal gehört, ich stand da eher auf Industrial und EBM. Aber irgendwann habe ich dann eine klassische deutsche Metal-Disco besucht und als ich reinkam, lief „Valhalla“ in voller Lautstärke. Beim Refrain habe ich dann die Gänsehaut meines Lebens bekommen und musste feststellen, dass ich im tiefsten Herzen einfach ein Metaller bin. Auch eine schöne Erinnerung.
Cara, comecei no metal com o Blind, em meados de 2000 e alguma coisa, ainda é uma das bandas que mais gosto, hoje, mesmo depois de conhecer tantas bandas e hoje estar mais do lado thrash/death, sempre admirei o Thomen, mesmo conhecendo tantos outros bateristas até melhores que ele, tudo isso por conta do estilo de tocar dele. Na época não existia UA-cam e se baixava os clipes e shows no Kazaa, Emule, etc. e eu sempre me impressionei com esse cara, ele tem uma pegada BRUTAL, parece que tem um peso de 20 kg em cada mão. Pelo que me lembro na época, ele saiu por divergências musicais, não é a toa, o BG partiu pro lado mais melódico e deixou de lado aquela pegada dos primeiros álbuns, o que definitivamente não combina com o estilo dele, enquanto o Frederik se encaixa bem no rumo que a banda levou, por conta disso acabei deixando de acompanhar a banda e concordo plenamente com você, realmente nunca mais foi a mesma sem o Thomen. Gostaria muito de ter visto ele com o BG ao vivo =/ Não conhecia o canal dele, fiquei feliz por ver que ele ainda tá tocando, mas por outro um pouco triste por ver como ele já envelheceu. :(
@@golande Personally I like them both. I've been a fan of Blind Guardian for about 22 years now and I was distraught when Thomen left. The band has changed, but definitely not for the worse. They're just different now. Dream Theater on the other hands completely went a different direction when Mike Portnoy left, and it wasn't a good direction.

You were my favorite musician in BG, I started in metal with this band, today I listen to more thrash and death bands, but you are still my favorite drummer of all time, your drumming style is incredible, very powerful. I have to say that it is incredible to see you playing at 50 as when you were younger. Thank you very much for your legacy at BG and Savage Circus, I can't play the drums due to a physical disability, but if I didn't, I would choose you as my teacher, it would be a real honor! Awesome! It has the kind of feel and depth you only can achieve with a "real" drummer working on a real kit. These guys nowadays who barely hit the kit and let a computer generate a sterile, clean sound, can never do that!
Just one word, SUPERLATIVE! You are a machine! Or better, a Terminator ;) Your precision surprises me everytime. I like the first and the second BG's albums, but still I don't love them. Valhalla is the exception, I heard it live so many times that now it's on my favourites list. What I I really love with every cell of my heart is the period from TFTTW till the And there was silence EP. Those were your truly mature Works, I think. I really hope you and your whole family are safe and well, in these crazy times! My cousine in Königswinter (Bonn) said to me that in Germany there are not so many problems, but here in Switzerland and especially in Italy, the situation is really tragic. I just hope in a true change of paradigm in this mad society and that people will learn that money is just pieces of paper, not as important as LIFE!!!!!. And that BG's Music will be recognized as a Force that spreads serenity. Thank you Thomen, once again! Everybody's got to be happy, everyone should sing...

I will always know your drumming by ear because of your bassdrums. You play your bassdrums like no other drummer I've ever heard. You have noticeably less of a tendency to use them in quadruplets than other drummers of similar bands.

Hey Thomen, great performance of this classic. Drummer question: I reckon the song is roughly in 170 bpm - A impossible speed for me :) Any tips how to get to that speed? Do you initiate the double bass roll with letting the heel fall down and then just use the force from your calves? Also, ooks to me like you use a light spring setting. Did I assume it correctly? many thanks and rock on!
