I met one of these "ballot boys", when he asked me with his rifle on a sling and un-armored airsoft vest, who I was voting for - I had to stop in my tracks, scratch my head for a moment before saying clearly to the lad: "Whichever pisses you off." before droppin' my blue vote off.
I heard him mutter as I was walking away, "I'll gun you down..."
I said nothing in response, but - as I am writing this here, today, he did no such thing.

Maybe if some people turned up on the rooftops with Remington 700s and thermal vision, you know, the best defence against a bad guy with a gun is good guys with guns... would it be an uncomfortable thought to ballot watchers that someone is watching them?
Thermals in during the day? Comical, man. That idea in of itself would simply backfire, anyway. The answer isn't simply "more guns".
I get it sounds easy to stand by the old mantra,
"The best defense against a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun."
But that argument leaves out so many other facets, disregarding consequence.
I get that ballot boy was way out of depth with that intimidation, but I can't see the answer to that being another threat.

Oh, it was terrifying. I can see how voters would simply turn around and go home after pulling up and seeing somebody like that at the box.
It should be codified into law that election deniers don't get to run in elections. No more of "heads I win, tails you lose." They can find candidates who respect the democratic process.
(P.S. Didn't think it needed to be said, but for anyone out there who couldn't read beneath the surface, obviously candidates should be allowed to bring legitimate action to the courts if there is demonstrable doubt. That does not mean they should be able to poison the well leading up to the election by claiming without evidence both fraud and victory)

NOT TO BRAG BUT : As a former cashier who had to separate thin plastic bags for years - I immediately knew what that wet sponge was for the first time we saw Wally with it.
I have a pair of fingerless gloves that have little rubber dots on the palms that are excellent for this.
Reading this reminded me of when I was doing a self check out at Krogers & for the life of me could not get the bag unstuck from the others. It was at the height of COVID & I couldn't help but to think of all the looks I would get from licking my finger to get it. So I just continued to try until I finally got it. It felt like forever & was beginning to get looks anyways from those waiting, wondering what in the world was wrong with me. Lol

I have the cue card from the "tiny wet sponge" part of this segment! It was originally "tiny sponge", but they put white tape over those words and changed it to "tiny wet sponge". Seth's lines are in black, Wally's are in red, so somebody else must have been handling the cards for that part.
It's just sanity vs. insanity this year. Heaven help us.

I live in AZ, and I voted by mail more than a week ago. The people in my family take our ballots directly to the post office instead of the ballot drop boxes. We got our emails and text messages from Maricopa Count Elections the day after, saying that they received our ballots and verified our signatures. Post offices are government buildings, so it would look way weirder for the crazies to be hanging around outside with guns. PS - We all voted Democrat for every office. It was partly out of spite on my behalf, but mostly because I'm just completely sick to death of all the BS, and I've completely, 100% given up on Republicans.

Thankfully the existence of fringe parties in Australia like the UAP has allowed the election denialism to be quarantined politically, and the AEC taking action on groups like Advance Australia with massive popular support looks likely to keep it there.

I live in Arizona, and I voted for Biden! Everyone in my immediate family also lives here and voted for Biden. Most of my friends also voted for Biden. I used to be Republican and vote Republican, but I'm well past being tired of all the BS and crazy conspiracy theories. I just haven't mentioned it to GOP politicians because none of them are my friends or confidants.

As a legal secretary/assistant for over 4 decades, I can relate to the sponge as before there were self-sealing envelopes (and most still aren't), I kept a specifically made bottle of water with a sponge tip at my desk to seal envelopes. There is also an office product called "Sticky Fingers" that is used to flip through papers, or you can use your sponge.

Boxes have cameras. The presence of people is purely for intimidation purposes. They should be required to stay 50 feet away in their exercise of their rights to do what they want. Record and report if you must. Do not interfere. Let officials cross reference the videos with the contents of the box. This should satisfy you if your intentions are good.
Why is this even a thing?
They shouldn’t be able to film people or their license plates. There are the official cameras so if they think they’ve seen an offence they can just note the time and what they saw. The sponge is not disgusting. Licking your fingers to turn pages is what's disgusting. I never understood why people do it, it is completely and utterly unnecessary for the turning of pages. It is completely habitual, nothing else. Once I observed a guy licking the fingers of his left hand, but still using his _right_ to actually leaf through the pages.
