World of Warships have pretty same crush depth for their subs. I believe it will be zero fun if it will be realistic - sub will simply go at 150-200m depth and will try to evade every depth charge it can and simply will end until battle will be finished.
Sucks that they modeled the fact that slower you go in SS less likely you to be detected, but did not made same thing for DD that the slower they go, more likely to detect the sub. You can go engines full ahead 65km/h+ and still be effective at detecting subs. That is not how it worked. Also crush depth on this sub was incorrect. I imploded at 120m while type 7 crush depth is ranging from 230 to 260m. Even in stat card they said 250m, and yet you die if you go 120. 3:10 ! exactly what i am talking about. It's nonsense.
It is just a event, so probably done so you dont go double+ what the depth charges currently go and leave the destroyers in your wake, but I completely agree
Not to mention the 2000m range torpedoes (irl it was 5000-7500m) on the whole i quite like it though, i think events like these are a great way to make naval more fun. perhaps a battle of latakia style one could be next
the g7e was electric and in many sub sims it has 5km range, but it has no wake so it should stay undetected for other players. The standard german torpedo which had wake was g7a and it range depended on the speed at which you set torpedo at launch, with slowest speed (30kn) it had range of 12.5km which is way longer than stupid 2km xd
IRL Uboats seldom made attacks outside ranges of 1.5-2.5km depending on conditions. In the game all you do is point the scope at something and it calculates = Cool beans & meme's, right? IRL they had a somewhat more... complicated procedure, in that all the target data had to be manually put into a Torpedo Data Computer. A computer is only as good as the data you put into it, they needed target AOB, speed, distance, torpedo running depth. For distance you needed mast height, which in simulators you get by reading ship recognition manuals, but IRL they didn't have that for anything but well-known warships, so they had to guesstimate. Hits at 2.5km in simulators like Silent Hunter and Uboat is possible, but by cheating with map tools showing all that data. And the further away, the more important all the data is dead-on accurate, if enemy changes speed or bearing, torpedo likely misses. IMO Gaijin is being more than fair with 2km range, given the difficulties the real Uboat/submarine crews faced.
Also, the fact that the torpedoes only launch in a direct way and don't have 3 speeds as well as there not being a fifth torpedo tube (the one at the back of the Boot VII C)
the spawns in this mode are awful, the destroyers don't have to protect the cargo ships at all, they just have to rush the clearly marked submarine spawnpoints, and they can freely lock them down with 0 effort. there needs to be like 5 in a semi circle out front and to the sides, and they need to not be visible to the destroyers. on the plus side, i learned you can make a 3x4 (-1) minefield grid in a spot, and then just full power forward and reverse as a sub, the noise will attract the destroyers who will gleefully cross over you without seeing the mines above you. i got 4 kills in one game off of the spawncamping destroyers this way

USA destroys Germany in this event quite often but this is still a fun event tbh. There's a few issues though such as the crush depth being inaccurate as altair3232 said in the comments along with Torpedo ranges, I'd also say that destroyers should not be able to spot submarines right below them since the destroyers sonar's blind spot is directly beneath the ship. Subs should also have passive sonar. But its a cool event and a nice way to test how fun Subs will be considering that in real battles there'll be islands to weave through. *I also found some cool submarine controls in the game's settings that I've yet to try out including Sub active sonar, torpedo active sonar, and torpedo homing*
True true. As ocasional naval player ( only two nations maxed out ) i can say that nazis are in big disadvantage here, i played 5 matches in subs and 5 matches as usa. Playing silent Hunter 3 for years helped me in this event.... It helped me to understand that this gamemode is nothing like silent Hunter xD they didnt even gave us acoustic torpedoes and other magic stuff while enemy has really good equipment to spot subs lol.
They nerfed subs so hard in this event. Torpedo range 2km instead of real 5km, starts taking damage at 56m depth, very slow underwater while destroyers yeet around with their arcade modifiers And if that wasn't enough, they made it almost impossible to hide, and even if you stay undetected somehow, the mission is time limited and you'll lose before you even reach the convoys. Still, i think it's a good thing Gaijin made this event, experiments like this can't hurt anyone.
the torpedoes also suck in this event, the g7e has a range up to 7km i think. yet can only do 2 in this event. i hope this becomes better when subs get released to the game
I mean it would be pretty bad if the subs could launch the torpedoes from their spawn and destroy most cargo ships before you could even fire back, but 2km is very garbage, 5 km would be ok
Good luck hitting anything at that range especially in an actual warthunder match. You would have to launch a salvo and get lucky with the spread. And I believe that German subs had a 2km range limit on the torpedo computer anything beyond that the computer didn't let you launch the torpedo.
Damn, I love this event so much, and the rewards are so fucking nice. I mean, you get a nice loading screen, a very nice account logo and the fucking U96 Emblem (the submarine in Das Boot)

I really wish they would bring subs to the game and have battles play out like this. I don't play naval at all just like most players don't, but this event is VERY fun to me. Constantly feel like I'm in Das Boot or Greyhound.
Definitely some issues in the event, more in favor of the DDs, but this is a Hella fun event. And while those submarines should have a deeper depth range, I usually found that gliding at 57m is sufficient to be safe most of the time. Depth of 45m is the limit for mines though, so you need to be a bit higher to try and fight back.
At the start of the event where no one quite knew what they were doing it was a pretty even matchup if not even slightly in the favour of the subs but as people have played it longer it’s become more and more of just the DDs absolutely smashing the subs.
Because DDs were the counter to subs in real life. In reality destroyers just dropped depth charges on subs and it destroyed them. Same with Catalinas. In fact the PBY Catalina’s primary purpose was anti submarine warfare alongside search and rescue.
best luck ive had so far as a frigate was 4 Uboats running bunched up side by side, i drove over the top of them dropping depth charges and got a quad kill.

As a silent hunter III player, I find War thunder's showing of u-boats as 'disgusting'. The crush dept, the destroyers finding us while at full ahead, etc etc. It's just complete buffoon
I think the 2 things i was most disappointed by in this event weren't the inaccurate submarines or terrible spawns (seriously, waaaayyy too close). No, It was A: the "mine" you can drop is just your stern torpedo tube not functioning, (even though tube switching is already a common feature on ships), your stern torpedo tube instead of firing a fish at foolish pursuers, the torpedo just drops out backwards and floats to the surface. B: the depth charges have proxy. IRL depth charges require depth setting, a tedious process (that the player should be in charge of imo, like setting the range in the tank sight) that could take up to a minute to complete and would tell the depth charges when to explode. If this was modelled correctly in game a submarine could quickly drop from 20m to 50m and evade the first depth charge pass, then quickly rise to 10m on the second pass and evade again, now having a good shot at the ships rear if they came from behind you. In essence you can now dodge depth charges vertically. Instead in game the depth charges just magically detonate within 10m of your depth even if you're rapidly changing depth.
And then there's me surfacing right in front of enemy destroyers captain Torres style. They never expect it and it's fun watching them panic as they try to dodge an entire salvo of torpedoes

Event is kinda fun. Wish a few things. 1 that max depth on subs was deeper and more realistic. 2 that destroyers had to slow down, to detect. Possibly with a longer range, forward only ping. 3. torpedoes need a minimum arming distance. And finally 4, perhaps a longer battle time and physically longer map. Defender spawns stay on the flanks of the convoy. But subs can spawn ahead, aft, or to the sides of the convoy (as though they were really attacking from all directions)
As someone who owns a good PC. I’ve been playing a lot of war thunder mobile for navy (tanks are ass in mobile) and it’s 5vs 5 and half the games there are two enemy submarines. Shit is so annoying because it ends up as 5vs2 and nobody has depth charges and the submarines just hide till the 15 minutes is up. And even worse, they somehow win.
this event is great it would be amazing if they added this to the game and allowed depth and fuse types to the uboats and a deck gun imagine the chaos you could cause
Fun fact, the game’s sub description says the submarine can dive farther than what War Thunder currently allows you to. I bet that’s because it’s a test and everything is bare mins but big plans are ahead!
The subs were too easy to kill and you should have crush debt of something with 200 metres. You could go about 150 metres deep with a Typ VII sub without damage. When you are this deep it also becomes a lot easier to dodge debth charges. If they want to balance it they can introduce hedgehogs to the asw crafts. I would also remove the mines from the sub and making it a homing torpedo instead.
@@smigoltime This. Yeah they addressed some issues. But the stuff that makes the gameplay awful for players with a WR above 45%, hasn't changed at all.
I don't like how they made the sonar system for destroyers. You should have passive sonar to listen and dial in the sound of subs and have barings on the sonar screen to give an idea direction. And use regular sonar to ping the depth to target.

I loved it so much
Can we just take a minute to appreciate the master piece that is the OG Das Boot in german
Bro greyhound is such an underrated movie
As someone who owns a good PC. I’ve been playing a lot of war thunder mobile for navy (tanks are ass in mobile) and it’s 5vs 5 and half the games there are two enemy submarines. Shit is so annoying because it ends up as 5vs2 and nobody has depth charges and the submarines just hide till the 15 minutes is up. And even worse, they somehow win.
It's literally me, good edit!
When sudenly greyhound soundtrack started☠️☠️
When flying the catalina in this game mode i like blasting black cats them from cod world at war
It reminds me of good ol' days with Silent Hunter series =)
ALARM!!!!
das boot my beloved
Wir haben Wasser einbrough, Herr Kaleun!
Kritische Tiefe!
This event just baits out the Das Boot fans from the depths
Enjoy it, lads 👍
I can confidently say I have carried my team as a submarine more than once and have also gone rampaging as a Farragut and Catalina
There is a lot of tweaking they need to do, but I am sure that subs have a future in WT (especially in EC).
this event is great it would be amazing if they added this to the game and allowed depth and fuse types to the uboats and a deck gun imagine the chaos you could cause
The Hardcore lord of the beat at the end made laugh😂 hahahaha.
tbh last time I played subs managed to win somehow, I spamed torps at start since atleast one tends to hit and you end up reloading anyway
never tried naval battles, now I want to
ALLLLAAAAAAARM!
Fun fact, the game’s sub description says the submarine can dive farther than what War Thunder currently allows you to. I bet that’s because it’s a test and everything is bare mins but big plans are ahead!
They better give the subs their accurate maximum depth
The subs were too easy to kill and you should have crush debt of something with 200 metres. You could go about 150 metres deep with a Typ VII sub without damage. When you are this deep it also becomes a lot easier to dodge debth charges. If they want to balance it they can introduce hedgehogs to the asw crafts. I would also remove the mines from the sub and making it a homing torpedo instead.
Guys don't be angry over the inaccuracies, it will be fixed it's just an event!
Dude these are two of my favorite movies….I need this event to be longer than 9 days
And I thought my jokes about it either being Tom Hanks in Greyhound simulator or Das Boot simulator were original
Smigol how do you feel about the changes War Thunder has been making since the strike and review bombing a while ago?
mostly decent changes but still don't address the issues that I find mostly annoying
@@smigoltime This. Yeah they addressed some issues. But the stuff that makes the gameplay awful for players with a WR above 45%, hasn't changed at all.
@@smigoltime That’s fair, there’s a lot of work to be done, but the changes so far have gone a long way to restoring my faith in gaijin.
@@PrivateMemo What's this? I haven't heard of this before.
i spent most of the time trying to figure out how to stay at certain depth
Greyhound is such a banger.
How there is no "Hunt for the Red October" meme yet baffles me.
I was literally listening to the Das Boot theme (from the series, not the film)
The Smigmarine 😳ahoy sea lubbers 😼
I knew somebody was going to make a video like this ahahah
good crossovers
I don't like how they made the sonar system for destroyers. You should have passive sonar to listen and dial in the sound of subs and have barings on the sonar screen to give an idea direction. And use regular sonar to ping the depth to target.
surface attacks go hard
Just a reminder to everyone playing, at 56m the depth charges can't hurt you.
Looks fun. Sure wish I could play it instead of my destroyer being stuck traveling in a straight line a 42kn…
Fire as they bear!
Well I’ll say this. I do play the, ‘Das Boot’ soundtrack when I participate in this event xD
"I thank you, my Heavenly Father
That you graciously kept me this day
And into your hands I commit myself
My body and soul. Amen" (c) cultured players on the American team after winning.
I like those odds
