Jackie it’s a pen case not pencil
I can't buy it either😢
Omg I’m a fan
OMGG I got a chance to reply to u!
Birthday is June 29, 2014🎉
Hey Jackie, long time watcher here, and I really have to comment about this box because I am a huge stationery nerd -- I don't know why you're disappointed with this set? It's an excellent stationery set IMO. You have gotten a lot of cute, fun, quality stationery items. You said you can't see the theme here, but there is a theme: this is all stuff stationery nerds like me salivate over for things like journaling, planner-keeping, lettering, and general day-to-day life stuff.
My partner and I love your channel so I say this as a fan and as a person with loads of respect for you: when you review stuff that doesn't interest you and give it a bad score or complain because you don't understand it, it doesn't feel good for those folks the stuff is made for. I wanted to come in just to let you know of the value of this set because it's a really good set -- absolutely amazing, actually.
Please consider the target audience for these products you review more when you review them; sometimes your reviews are unfairly slanted toward personal bias versus the quality of an item (even when you say you won't do this at the start of a video.) This has happened several times before but this is the first video I felt strong enough emotions to speak up. I know you care about us grains (and we care about you in return), so you don't intend to hurt anyone's feelings, but this video definitely stung a little, lol.
Maybe reviewing things that actually interest you for a while, rather than things that have gone viral, would be better? I know it might not get as many views, but you don't seem to enjoy a lot of the viral stuff because it doesn't pertain to your interests, which leads to a harsh take.
I do want to add that my household is still a fan after this video (I'm grumpy over some pens lol but I'm not going to unfollow you for it after all these years!) and we're always cheering you on and watching every video you produce! So I hope this comment doesn't offend.
I feel like she is chasing the viral trends too much without doing her research. It's sad. This box is lovely but just not her style at all, but that is something she could have found out by researching the company and reading the item description. She assumed since it was coming from Japan it would be cutie novelty items.
The only "disappointing" thing i can found about this box is the choose of the colors of some of the markers/gel pens. Except the fact that these colors can be or not liked by the person that receive the box, they work really well toghether except for the green ink pen and the green pencil. Yes, these two items can work together, but they feel a little "not in palette" with the other products, in my opinion.
Yeah, there's a reason why stationary is so hot over there. She seems pretty ignorant of Japanese work culture. (or at least narrow minded)
I agree, honestly it seems like a waste that she bought an advent calendar that could've went to someone who could truly appreciate the items just to criticise it because it doesn't suit her style. She really should've done more research instead of spending money and complaining about the items for a whole video, sounds like a waste of money and time for everyone.
Bro you wrote five paragraphs
It actually hurt a bit to see you destroy every single box of that beautiful calendar. I cannot believe that you have never used a fountain pen before! I hope you did not destroy it, the Pelikan pen was my favourite item. I also loved the cute little cleaning van!
Oh come one man it's just a box that isn't even yours
I think jackie has forgotten not only what Japanese stationary stores sell but also that she’s reviewing a stationary box and not an arts and crafts box 😂😂

I almost CRIED when you handled that fountain pen like that! Jackie, love, you handle fountain pens VERY gently.
Right? My heart was on the floor when she used it like a regular pen 😭
She has no respect
i did cry when she used it like that. Back in my school days we learned to write with a fountain pen and it hold so many fond memories to me. All the ink stained fingers, the bend tips when they fell down, the way your writing looked so much better than a gel pen could ever make it look...
@@dottieland7061Maybe she doesn't know? You have to keep that it mind.
Guys, she might not know how to use it, so keep that in mind.
Got goosebumps from Jackie handling the fountain pen like a roller pen 🫣
Pelikan is a well known brand here in the Netherlands. And I actually had to learn to write with a fountain pen it was mandatory...the times I had an ink explosion 😅
same for averyting
Yep had me almost crying with the way she was using it!
I actively cringed... I kept reaching out to the screen to try to correct her hold on it.
I came here to say the same thing 🤣
We had to use them in school. We would flick them at peoples back to get ink splatters on their white shirt 😂 they are so lovely to write with though.
I think the memo pad is a great addition to a stationary box, seeing as it is more geared towards someone that uses pens in an office type setting, and less so than someone that does art.
Jackie, the pen case is specifically called a pen case because it was designed to hold pens, not pencils. Most pens are shorter than most pencils are when you first get them. That's why your pencils don't fit.
Try true!
Yeah that would still make me mad though 😂
@@kajamaja7148 It’s a pen case. It’s meant for pens. That’s like shoving a circle in the square whole and being mad
lol she dum dum
@@pissum420 yeah i understood that. I'am just not in a need of that many pens that i would need a case for it. I rarely ever only have a pen on me. That's my point. Not saying it's not otherwise useful
I'm just a little confused at why Jackie was expecting art supplies or fun stationary since this is all high quality pens, which the box and description state that it would be. Stationary is not art supplies, so you're not going to get a sketch book haha. I personally love these brands, especially the Pilot G2!
Yeah, the box looked really elegant and serious. Not sure where she got the idea it would be a lol cute style Japanese art box. Even the stuff that was what she was looking for (the clips, the monkey eraser, and the copics) weren't good enough. This was a box for stationary, an adult gift honestly with really high quality items in it.
@ZombieMinion1992 I agree completely, and there are many options (cheaper too) of stationary kits that are the cute "kawaii" style that might suit what she expected more? Not to mention the cuter stuff still seemed decent quality. I really like that click fountain pen!
The pilot pen at 18:00 is made from recycled water bottles hence the water bottle like texture to it. I love those.
Yeah! I thought It was really cool, honestly so much of this video felt like just judging things immediately and not even reading or actually looking at the items
@@HundWasser I thought the same thing tbh
Honestly it was my regular office pen for a while purely because if my B2P pen got stolen by somebody, it would be VERY obvious who yoinked it when seeing it around the office lol.
But honestly, I find it to be a well-writing, fun little pen that is neat-looking recycled stationary item.
YESS !!! I have that pen too and I love the creativity behind it. The fact that it’s made of recycled water bottles and is shaped like one. I love showing it to people.
Jackie I enjoy your videos but this one was a little hard to watch. As someone who is an avid Japanese stationary lover and art supplies lover…this box was being unfairly judged.
The pen holder/cup is not meant for pencils…as stated by its name. There’s also a limit to how many pens it can store, the limit is also mentioned at the box. That’s why they come in a variety of sizes. They have some that can hold pencils but those are usually the taller ones. These are targeted for office workers who works on the go so that they can access their pens easily no matter where they are working.
The memo pad is one of the best memo pads for those who enjoy writing with fountain pens. In my country, life noble memo pads and notebooks cost upwards to 100 ringgit (approx. 21 USD), plus expecting a sketchbook from this box is a little out of theme.
Also Iwako erasers are really popular in Japan for avid stationary collectors as they have unique themes and sometimes they collaborate with other food/anime, and they can be quite costly too…
The Curidas is a cheaper alternative to the more expensive pilot capless or vanishing point. I personally own both pens are they are great for people who love fountain pen but wishes to have the convenience of not losing their pen cap or posting it.
I genuinely feel that maybe this advent calendar is not geared towards someone like you but maybe it’s more so for someone who journals or writes a lot.
I think the post is long enough 😅because I could go on forever as I’m someone who has worked and lived in Japan and still appreciates the stationaries there and pay a fortune in my country to access them.
I wrote an equally long post by accident,. Thanks for joining me on the verbose side of the comments section. 😄
I feel this is 2023 version of the playdoh advent calendar.
I understand being 'salty' is the vibe and on brand for Nerdecrafter, but this was such a good stationary calendar. You can tell it'll be high end writing pens and more 'adult/plain' items due to the box style and the price!
And that notepad is perfe t for the pens? What good is a pen without a notepad...😅 and pleeease dont hold a fountain pen like that, way too much scratchy pressure!
agree ! While watching the video I literally thought to myself it feels like the play doh advent calendar which was actually so good but she was salty about the whole thing.
It's basically a "tell me you don't work in an office setting without telling me you don't work in an office setting".
That memo pad is amazing tbh, really faint lines just like I love.
And tombow brush pens are amazing at underlining without being too in your face and still be able to scan the docs or photocopy them.
That fountain pen held vertical and upside down ...
Everything absolutely works together perfectly for a STATIONARY kit...😂 Shes doomed to hate it all but me as a writer i cannot wait. I am obsessed with pens because of writing and work requires them alot
I could see my clients absolutely stealing the flower paper clips
I need a 10kg box
I feel like you weren’t judging this too fairly. You bought a stationary box and then were upset it wasn’t mostly art supplies. But art supplies aren’t the same thing as stationary. As someone who is really into proper stationary, like pens, pencils, and erasers, this box looks like it has a fair bit of variety basically everything in their is high quality and something I’ve happily used before.
Agree 100%. She chose to be salty and disappointed from the very beginning. Like when she was complaining pencils wouldn't fit in the PEN CASE. It's not meant for pencils. I'd love this calendar!
I kinda felt the same...got salty about stationary in a...stationary advent calendar
Yeah, this felt unfair. It was stationariy and not art supplies, also why it had a note pad and not a sketchbook. Also, calling a note pad retro? i use note pads on a daily basis.
Fr though, it felt entirely too judgmental at products that were up front about what they are (like the PEN case)
The constant complaining about one thing or another just got tiring after awhile
Especially whenever the "lack" of a theme was brought up
Cause the box DOES have a theme
Its stationary, the comment of "art or office stationary" doesn't make sense cause "art stationary" is literally just art supplies and it isn't advertising to be an ART calendar
stationary is already implied to be for office stuff or general uses
Usually it can be fun to watch negative reviews from her but this one fr felt like she was judging it based off assumptions and lack of knowledge most the video
@@lenopal yes exactly. unfair expectations and unfair review for a cool and upfront product.
Hey Jackie,
Been a longtime viewer and this is probably the first time I've disagreed with one of your reviews. I think you definitely got your money's worth and as others have mentioned, it's a nice introductory set for different brands and stationary. I fell into the stationary rabbit hole late last year and love or know a lot of the brands mentioned in this video. The nice thing about Japanese pens is that a lot of them are refillable! Instead of throwing away the pen after it's run out of ink, you can purchase the cartridge refills for relatively cheap to encourage you to keep using the same pen. There are no rules about mixing brands either especially if you have a favorite pen body style but might prefer a specific ink formula (Ballpoint, Gel pen, Rollerball).
Fountain pens can range anywhere from a few dollars to a couple of hundred depending on the brand, materials and even the nib type. I can't blame you for feeling a bit intimidated by the last one because vanishing points are usually seen in more expensive pens and can be intimidating for beginners or people unfamiliar with how to clean and maintain them.
And the Ocean plastics and pens made out of pastic bottles is just showing Japanese innovation for a global problem.
I was honestly disappointed with Jackie’s attitude in all this. She even says she loves washi tape and then unboxing it she’s sour about it
‘There’s no theme’ ‘it’s all stationery’ stationery is the theme. Stationery is pens, pencils, notepads, highlighters, sticky notes - sometimes cute and kawaii but this one wasn’t advertised as cutesy kawaii stationery.
What Jackie wanted was art supplies with some cutesy stationery that doubles as desk decoration built in but it’s not an art supply advent calendar.
and it is cohesive in the fact that you’re getting a sampling of the items you can purchase from that website. Single brand calendars typically will have a theme, websites that carry a bunch of different brands will have a sampling of their wares so you find what you like and go back and purchase from them
Idk sometimes when Jackie doesn’t like something off rip it feels like that’s it there’s no deciding otherwise. Like yeah it wasn’t the calendar you expected but maybe go back, read a bit more, realize what the calendar is and then judge it based off that rather than judging it as if it’s like a zen pop box
exactly!!! i felt that she really was judging it so harshly and wrong, its specified as a stationery for a reason! i feel like no part of the box showed or gave off the impression it was going to be super cute an out there it was full of perfect stationery like it said not art supplies an seeing her get salty over things that were very much themed stationery was making me salty.
Yeah, if she actually researched the company or really any of the items she would understand. She got a stationary calendar. It isn't all cute gift shop pens and art items. I think she just realized that it wasn't going to be an "entertaining" box for her to show off and took it out on the product. The only cheap item in the box was the eraser and it was a novelty item. Which she probably wouldn't have minded if it had been an animal she liked.
Especially typically japanese ones. Zebra pens? Japanese. Tombow? Japanese. POSCA? Guess what. Japanese. lmao Literally ALL the brands in there - Japanese. The notepad? Very typical gift in Japan along with stationary. It all made perfect sense together. I would've loved it - even tho I already own most of these products. Even the Zebra pen that she called cheap - one of their absolute best sellers - because of how smooth it writes. It's one of the few pens I use daily. She just.. didn't hold it right lol
And those were fountain pens. Not.. calligraphy pens. x)
Exactly!
The desk vacuum is adorable!
Jackie: Today we’re looking at a stationary advent calendar!
Also Jackie: Why is this thing filled with so much stationary???
I was thinking this and found your comment 😂
Exactly !! I think she thought stationary equals art supplies, and was dissappointed it wasnt fully like that, maybe she should had tried the Arteza advent calendars instead xP
I was thinking the same. I love stationary, I have an absurd number of pens and notepads, cards and all sorts. I was confused why she was expecting lots of art supplies. Some of them cross over but like it’s stationary 😂. I almost never disagree with Jackie but today is the day I finally do.
Yeah... and the cute things are because... kawaii 🙂
seriously, this is *exactly* what I would want and expect out of a stationary advent calendar. I had to stop when she was mad she got a notepad instead of a sketchpad??? Why are you expecting a sketchpad lmao - that said, some of the items are boring and don't belong (looking at you Pilot G2 - I love you, but you don't belong in a $150 stationary set when I can easily buy a tub of 32 of you)
Copic Ciao markers are definitely refillable. They are less expensive than the Copic Sketch because they don’t hold as much ink, but they are refillable
Can confirm. Pretty much all my Copic markers are the Ciao ones. And i just refill them
They are basically Copic's budget line.
Yes this so much, I was so confused as well for a second
All Copic markers are refillable. Not sure where this idea that only Sketch can be refilled came from. Ciao are still cheaper tho.
@@genera1013 probably because they are advertised as the Budget line.
They do come in less colors than the Sketch ones do however.
Please say that I was not the only one who sat in cold sweat when Jackie was abusing that fountain pen 😭
That caused me terrible pain
Fully horrified 😭
🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Nope and it is my favorite brand as welll.
FOR REAL I was screaming " NO THATS NOT HOW IT WORKS!!!!! STOP HURTING THE POOR PEN!" TvT
Hey Jackie!
(I'm from Germany, where we used fountain pens at school and learned to write with them)
In the ink cartridge there is a small ball which you first push into the ink cartridge with the fountain pen (to open the ink cartridge and keep the ink itself liquid wich you did really good, considering you have never seen those pens before (you can shake it and the ball mixes the components of the ink again)) and you hold the fountain pen so that the silver side points forwards and away from you and the black side points towards you and therefore is closer to the paper. The ink comes out through the small slit at the very front of the fountain pen and after a little practice you can write and draw with it really nicely.
Love you and your videos!❤
(hope it helped😅)
yes in romania we also are thought to write with these pens!
In England we used them from an early age too.
Same in the Netherlands. I also used to write with them
Poland same!
And the colour is probably "Königsblau" (The kings blue) ... That is the standard blue ink
I love how she gets a stationary calendar tgen gets mad its full of stationary related items
Especially typically japanese ones. Zebra pens? Japanese. Tombow? Japanese. POSCA? Guess what. Japanese. lmao Literally ALL the brands in there - Japanese. The notepad? Very typical gift in Japan along with stationary.
I don't get the attitude. It's not a craft kit.
Hey Jackie,
The pale colours in Copic markers work well in blending transitions in tones when you are colouring. I find them essential. Another use is if you would wish to tone an area on a drawing, either making it brighter or knocking back the contrast, you may do so.
I’m curious since this was more of like a work/school/stationary set- why they didn’t pick color Copics that would work more in a business setting? I wonder why yellow and pink -unless they were meant to be like highlighters?
@@silverhoney6969 they make amazing highlights / granted you need to make sure you are putting it over the correct ink as they are alcohol based. but to highlight printouts they are great. so are the tombow twins.
That being said... i am sure this is also a box full of their BEST SELLERS and Copics are number one in that category and Twins have their own cult following. as well as Irojiten (the Japenese produced ones ... there is a difference in quality). They are all Cult favourites. Colours were probably open stock / open packs and random. Again... Advent calendars from a business perspective are to let you know about the product and try it... and hedge their bets on you going out and having brand recognition to purchase the colour you want from that product line you already tried.
I get why you were not too into this calendar, howeva, I am an avid pencil and pencil accessory collector. I would love this advent calendar if it just had more pencils than pens.
Tombow is a high-quality pencil line. The pencils can be used for sketching and writing. Mitsubishi has alot of collaborations with different companies like airlines and race cars. They aren't top of the line, but not the worst. It would have been nice if they got some of the cooler designed items for this box.
i have to correct you on Mitsubishi not being top of the line. Mitsubishi was a shipping company and as a shipping company they started acquiring SEVERAL business to aid in the export of goods out of Japan. Uni was one of the higher end acquisitions - they are a higher end product ESPECIALLY the pencils.
@rinlehtisaari6419 that is interesting, I was told differently, but after a little extra research, I see you are correct. Personally, I love the Mitsubishi pencils that I have. I love the designs, so I haven't used them much because I don't want to ruin it.
Nice to meet another pencil lover.
Until now I thought Im the only person that collects pencils 😊
Agree!
@@jennifermasson5125 finally someone said it
honestly... It's given you what it's advertised. It was advertised as a >stationery< calendar, not >art product< calendar. So I feel like it's exactly what it said it'd be, loads of stationary things you'd use in a pencil/pen case for homework, work and office related stuff.
Japanese stationary is on another level! That being said I'd rather take $150 and buy exactly what I want rather than getting random color pencil, random markers, clips.
the idea of advent calendars that are put out by companies is for you to get a taste... then shop their site or stores (or even on the companies part ... shop anywhere) and become a long term purchaser... thats how Cult Pens got it's name... literally a cult following.
The pain when she kept calling them caligraphy pens and almost ruined the tip of the first one. 😅
physically hurt me. same as looking at the production country for some of them - yet all were Japanese brands, which she likely didn't notice lol Even US and Canadian brands typically outsource production.. that's .. nothing new.
And the store she bought it from is specialized in selling the most popular stationary products. The whole calendar is designed to introduce stationary people to .. stationary products that are popular but they may not have tried before. Even the 'cheapest' of pens she criticized is one of Zebra's bestsellers lol
@@BassKittehz i like the zebra one. It's smooth and lightweight, writes lNike gel but doesn't smudge.
Not my absolute favourite, I like more tapered pens like Parker jotter and extra fine tips.
Heavy body pens are fine and fancy but if you write a lot they can be cumbersome.
"please give me something artsy" pleads Jackie, mere seconds after opening a FOUNTAIN PEN. 😂
And TO BE FAIR, the "pencil case" actually called itself a PEN case, so it's specifically designed for PENS. Which I think makes it a little unfair to criticize it for not fitting pencils. It wasn't designed for that!
I'm pretty into the whole Japanese stationary scene, and this is not only EXACTLY what I'd expect from a set like this, but also honestly a PHENOMENAL advent calendar! There's two freaking fountain pens in there! And one is so fancy it's nearly the cost of the entire box!! This is exactly the sort of variety I'd be hoping for with a box like this. Some markers, some pens, some pencils, some accessories... Not to mention TWO freaking fountain pens, one of which is the type people would make whole videos reviewing, and you didn't even try it because you're too unfamiliar with fountain pens! 😩
Jackie, you just weren't the target audience for this, and that's okay. But that doesn't mean it's bad. I'm the target audience and I would be ecstatic opening this, and every single item would be thoroughly used.
I loved it. I feel like this box was to introduce you to Japanese stationery from less expensive and not super practical, to more expensive and useful.
Dying when Jackie used the fountain pen the wrong way 😂 if the fountain pen is only 10 dollars it is not the highest quality they have. They have really pretty and expensive ones starting from 200-1000 dollars. They are good and I still have mine and have one from my great great granny. (Yes of course there are more expensive brands out there…)stationary is office stuff or study stuff for me, not something for creative use… maybe I am wrong. So for me, this would have a consistent theme, to be honest.
You are correct, stationary is used for offices and studying..it's writing and office work supplies! Things used for creativity projects (art) would be labeled as art supplies.
Ughh Jackie this one hurt. I feel like this beautiful Japanese stationary advent calendar was a gold mine. So many special pieces. I wish there was just a bit of research done in the moment before haphazardly testing all these amazing stationary tools. I understand not everyone knows how to use a fountain pen, but you kind of ruined the opportunity to ever try with that particular nib by scratching it all over the paper. It will certainly have to be replaced in order to use that pen properly. Also, I just want to mention, copic ink are refillable for ALL types of copic marker including the ciao. As for the pen case, I wouldn’t consider it a disappointment just because it did not fit the pencils. It is labeled as a pen case. I believe the point of this particular advent calendar is to to give you unique items that can be used with your existing tools and art/stationary, not to fit everything in the advent calendar into one category. I hope this doesn't come off as harsh! I certainly don't mean it that way. It was just disappointing for me to see many of my favorite products used improperly, then denigrating them based on user error instead of the quality of their functionality.
I guess l'm just a little salty about this one. 😂 But I still love you Jackie!!! ✊🏾
Spends $150 on a STATIONERY Advent calendar, then spends 25 mins complaining about the stationery items because they don't have a theme or aren't cute enough. What was the point of buying it? if you want something Kawaii, go to a store you know that sells Kawaii items.
I don't think she read the description for the item at all and just assumed it was from Japan so it would be novelty items and art supplies.
@@ZombieMinion1992 Not to say.. she may have thought "oh it's japanese, so it must be stereotypical kawaii" lol
it means she lack of knownledge about Japanese culture you know, for the entire video, she make me want to scream, like "NOT EVERYTHING ABOUT STATIONERY, ESPECIALLY JAPANESE PEOPLE ALWAYS CUTE, OPEN YOUR EYES PLEASE!" even me who likes about art, especially art supplies/stationary because i'm visual art bachelor degree, really really surprise for the best qualities of those stationery, even get lil mad when she handle those with careless hands of her :'( (im sorry if my english isn't thay good..)
@@intankodewyes, especially because she loves Japan and even speaks some Japanese its like…. she should know not everything from Japan is shaped like a cat, people in Japan also work in offices.
I yelled stopp and covered my eyes at how Jackie just used that fountain pen. i need a break before i continue the video. anyways the brand Pelikan is very well known in Europe or at least half of Europe.
This advent calendar seems geared more towards people who do bullet journals and travel journals. When I was very into my bullet journal era I would have loved all of these items. Even now doing a lot of mixed media work I can see where I would get a lot of use and enjoyment out of using them.
This is exactly what I would expect from a stationary advent calendar. I really liked it!
Here in Eastern Europe we learn to write using the fountain pen. It is specifically requested by the school. Pelikan is a well-known brand for such pens. The last pen looks incredible. as someone who loves to write with such pens, I am impressed.
I live in the Netherlands, I also grew up using the fountain pen at school. Did you also used to collect the balls from empty inkt capsules?
@@esmaystokhof Yessssss
omg u unlocked a memory 🥹
Pelikan is one of THE brands for "Füller" (Ink Pencil) in Germany. Kids start to write with normal pencil and switch to an Füller when they become more proficient with their writing. At least that was the case when I went to school. But "Pelikan" oder "Lamy" bring back memories :D
feel you a lot there, I still write with "füller" even in uni even though I've long switched from my lamy bc of the different cartridges
LAMY CREW!!!! hahaha
Jackie is simply not the target audience for this box. This is for the people who geek out over pilot G2s, kaweco sports, rhodia notepads, hate moleskine notebooks and are terrified of baystate blue. If you don't know what are those, you are not the target audience.😉
Honestly I think this Advent calendar is really worth it as somebody who's into art supplies and stationary I think it depends on what end of it you are on though
Idk I feel like it’s not worth it and I wouldn’t call this as a whole a bunch of art supplies. Yes you can absolutely with pens but that’s pretty much all it was. Wasn’t enough art support supplies to mention. And I don’t even fully wanna call this a stationary advent colander either. The quality of the items is good but there’s no variety. You literally just spent $150 on pens…. And as much as it’s nice to have good pens and you don’t have to just use them to write, I know most people wouldn’t want to spend that money on just pens. And even if they were inclined to do so I’m pretty sure people would prefer to choose the type of pens and ink colors. Throwing in one color pencil or one notepad in my opinion doesn’t justify calling it neither Art nor stationary supplies. Stationary and art is more than just pens and that’s all we got. No stickers. No stamps. No envelops….no paint or paint brushes. No sketch book. So I understand and agree with Jackie’s disappointment. Regardless the quality of then items inside I feel like this was underwhelming. And unless u have some type of pen collection, or if u r yuri (iykyk), then u won’t really be able to appreciate this whether it was a gift or not.
@@MochiSyrup I think that's where the thing lies though as an artist I've easily spent close to $150 on pens before for good liners and such. I also think the people who are really into note-taking might like it I think it all depends on audience at the end of the day. When Jackie mentioned splitting it up into more art base versus office stationary I think that was probably the best deal that it could have done. Me personally I like office stationery and I don't really care as much about washi tape or having fun little stickers I like good pens.
I disagree, most items were totally random (do you need ONE colored pencil, in CACTUS GREEN?? A pen in PURPLE? 2 recycled pens that will sit in your drawer forever??). Also if you are someone who writes a lot, you don't need 10 pens, odds are you already have one brand/pen you love. I'm someone who writes very fast and very fine and there were maybe 2 items I would like to try, I think most of you associate "japanese stationaries = quality" regardless, this was disappointing.
@@melindahahn7625 I disagree. I'm an artist. There's no way even when I was more focused on traditional would I consider a biz of random pens with little variation an art box. I also live writing. Always have always will. Still don't think it's worth it. It's just random. Even the "fun@ stuff like posca and the few colorful pens weren't enough. U can do a lot with a little but none of that sparks any creative. Not saying no one would enjoy this but I respectfully think that argument is weak and if u disagree that's fine. I just don't see how paying for a box and all u get is pens as an enjoyable exoeruende for an advent calendar is exciting
@@stil57609 exactly. Plus there's so many cute and exciting Japanese products especially stationary. Many people might not know where to or be able to get access to certain products. If ur gonna call it Japanese stationary I'm gonna expect a variety of items for that price. At that point just call it a Japanese pen box. It's like getting an assortment if pasteries only to open and find it's just a bunch of bread with maybe one cream puff mixed in and then there barely being a variety of textures and flavors between each bread at that. U can love bread, it could taste great, but if u wanted bread u would've just bought it. Quality is important this advent xakanders are also about the experience. Getting something u can't always get it get easily. Discovering something new... Just throwing in pens is boring and lazy. No matter what qualityblevel u can always find pens
Im impressed this advent has the biggest price on the last day. Not many advents do that. Its a pretty neat box for people who like stationaries. Id be stoked to get this box.
The fountain pen gave me flashbacks to my childhood. When I was in primary school it was mandatory to write with a fountain pen. I saw you struggling with the ink stick and I was like ''noo noo you gotta click it innn so the ball comes off'' I used to collect those little ball thingies. :"D goodness. The memories. Oh goodness and the way you write with it at the start. I was told off SOOOOO much when I was young because I used to write like that and had to learn to write with it the right way. (The metal top has to face up) kind of a childhood trauma lol. whenever I see someone write with it the other way I automatically get stressed out lol
You're killing me Jackie!! When you started using the fountain pen backwards...those are so so finicky and the nibs 'break' very easily and it still gives me nightmares on the number of broken nibs I have had. Pelican makes some great fountain pen ink.
The little cleanup van is adorable! I would totally buy and use one of those!
Same :)
I would play with the desk sweeper van through the whole meeting!
I feel like this would be perfect for someone who loves to jernol and be creative with it. The light color Coptic would be perfect for highlighting.

I think this would be a great set for people who love to bullet journal. The ruler and washi tape would be helpful for that. I would love this set! Too cute!
Copic Ciao markers are refillable just like Sketch markers, they just hold less ink so you have to refill them more often. The nibs are also replaceable.
YES PLEASE EVERY REFILL YOUR CIAOS! DO NOT TOSS THEM
The calligraphy pen is from the german brand Pelikan :) we call it "Füller" here and it goes with ink . the containers of the ink usually have a tiny plastic ball inside that acts like a lid. You need to press the non-flat end into the pen so the ball pops into the container (you usually hear or feel a slight *click* inside. that way you know the container popped open.) It often helps to dip the pen tip ("feather") into the ink of the container to get the ink flowing!
They basically imitate the feeling of "feather and ink". Hope that helps!
Greetings from Germany!
I bought two bottles of ink from them, they’re legit and well known in the pen community 😊
Ah that makes sense!
They were known for the place to go for the japanese products you could not get in North America. That gap as been quickly closing as the world has been made much easier for exporting goods. The name is based off just that... Japenese stationery that had a Cult Following for curtain products.
I've bought at least a dozen bottles of ink from them, also some TWSBI pens and some individual polychromos pencils. One of my favourite online stores.
The green colored pencil isn’t used for coloring it’s used for doing a sketch that you later line over, it’s just for sketching makes it lighter and harder to see on final projects
Cultpens is an excellent store, but I haven't bought any of their calendars. As their name suggests, the supplies are 'cult favourites' or 'cult classics' so they can be very niche. I'm not that into Japanese stationery and I don't use that much ink so putting that big of a stack of bills into random supplies hasn't been the best option. 😅 Maybe some day!
I would've loved this box. It's exactly what i would've wanted from this kind of box.
As a huge stationery nerd I'm goona say that this is an amazing stationery box. If you use journals and planners this box is perfect for that.
Fountain pens are for general everyday writing and not really for calligraphy (though there are some calligraphy fountain pens - those with flex nibs or broad nibs). Think of fountain pens as the ancestors of modern day pens. Starting from feather quills (like the ones they use in Harry Potter) to dip pens with metal nibs (like the ones used for calligraphy) to fountain pens (used by most until the 1960's-70's) to present day roller ball/ball point/gel pens.
IM SCREAMING WHY- JAKIE UR KILLING ME BY USING THE FOUNTIAN PEN LIKE THAT AHHHH
18:50 Tombow Dual End ABT are really nice pens for both calligraphy and art, as someone who loves watercolour supplies they have some beautiful, bright and pastel inks that are really hard to find in a lot of watercolour sets. They blend well with just a watercolour pen or brush for watercolour effects, you don't need the colourless blender but they do make one in case you'd rather use them as markers. And you don't need a lot of pigment laydown, they're highly pigmented.
(And they don't have an odor like alcohol markers, so if you're sensitive to smells or want to use them in a smaller space, they're a really great alternative to copics, ohuhu etc.)
They're not lightfast, as most watercolour mediums aren't (except for some of the high-end watercolour pencils and tubes) they're not refillable (Ecoline brush pens are though. but they lack a bullet tip end, if it matters to you.) and they can run very expensive in a complete set, but you can buy them individually and in smaller sets to build up a collection. (I bought mine when I found them on clearance.)
Ooo... Jackie... As a calligraphy pen collector, that made my skin crawl. lol So! 13 was a fountain pen with a calligraphy nib. When you use it, keep the metal up at all times. With your artistic abilities, I can see you doing great things with the Pelikan pen. Oh, wow! That platinum pen looks interestingly cool.
French grain here ! It was also mandatory for us to learn to write with a fountain pen. I remember collecting the small balls of the cartridges and putting them inside the pen. Fun times! Except when your pen wore down or when you didn't put the cartridges correctly and the ink spilled everywhere...
That’s an amazing box, I use a lot of high quelite stationery, specially Japanese brands. I love them. Is not a box make for crafters, but rather for planner community, journaling, and stationery lovers in general. If you compare this brands in the box with the stationery than comes in the real littles or mini brands you’ll see the differences… and there are a lot. Pencils and colored pencil’s quality are “measured” in smoothness, resistance of the lead (how easy it breaks), and if when you are sharpening the pencil the shavings hold its shape, that’s a good quality wood. For gel pens you want to look for smoothness, “railroading”, smears, among others. It’s a whole wonderful word ❤
The paper in that memo pad is really good quality. Again, is not an art box 😅
There are uninteresting items, but the good ones compensate 😅
The platinum curidas is a really beautiful fountain pen (not calligraphy pen 😅), and it is a engineering work of art by itself, retractable fountain pens are very valued in the fountain pen community, and this one is very affordable and amazing quality. The next tier price for this kind of pen is about twice as much I think.
The irony of this is that, when I was a kid, getting stationary as a gift was considered a crap gift…
Now there’s an advent calendar for it…
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻🤣
I think the theme is stationary which is completely different from art supplies, definitely think this was judged waaay to harshly!
Cult Pens are very well known in certain circles and their focus is much more on the 'serious' stationery for writers, planners and journallers (we use those kinds of copic colours as highlighters/mildliners). They cover every type and budget of pens, pencils and inks from the generic to the specialised and coveted. They get a lot of exclusives from some of the big brands in this field. This calendar is what I would have expected from them given the other 'surprise' boxes they curate through the year and it's definitely not overstock, there are whole communities out there for this stuff. It clearly missed the mark with you, and that's fine. I wouldn't appreciate an art box as I don't art, but would have been overjoyed with this one. We don't all have to like and appreciate the same things. Just be nice to the Curidas 😉
It's a stationery advent calendar, so I myself would expect pens and pencils the most, though more erasers would be nicer! :D But I think you might be disappointed because you went on with hopes that it would be unique or fun stationery or maybe even art supplies, instead of what's written in the description, which is useful stationery. Not saying something fun and unique can't be useful, but Im just saying, it fits the description of 'top quality' and 'useful' stationery. I'd argue just one colored pencils are not that useful but those pens and pencils definitely are. Even memo pads being there instead of a sketchbook makes sense since it fits the theme of 'useful' stationery
Those Pilot G-2 pens are my FAVORITE!! And they make them in so many colors. The ink is indelible, too, so I can use them at work. 💜
This is hands down the prettiest advent calendar I've ever seen. Glad I can see what was included though, as I already have brtter pens so I'm not mad. Love a good fountain pen, though! They feel so good to use.
This would be a fun one for me because I love doing puzzle books and mazes with fancy pens. The metallic Gelly Rolls are perfect for making my picture mazes look like stained glass because I can go over the black lines with gold or silver when I am done. When I am done the gold and silver look like the lead came in stained glass works. 😊
I think it’s a cute concept idea for anybody who wants to use Japanese stationary supplies, then I’m for it🥰🥰🥰
I'm an artist and I don't consider most stationary to be art supplies. Most of it seems to be more office/school appropriate, at least to me. Having said that, I loved this advent calendar! It was fun and entertaining and the eraser sweeper was too cute.
In Japan there are PEN cases AND pencil cases, they are not the same thing in that the pen ones are shorter Jackie. xD Kinda bummed my day is the ruler but this calendar has really nice stuff in it. Everything in this would be very normal for an office, even the Sakura gel pens. Sakura is the brand on those Jelly Rolls, Jelly Roll is just the specific type of Sakura pen.
There was so much wrong in this video and I don't mean the calendar with it.
Apart from a few cheap pens, the rest was absolutely great and the value was very good.
Also don't abuse a Pelikan pen like this ever again, thank you!
As a Artist, I definite likes those pens and pencils for a reason: To Draw! The Stationary box is exactly what "Stationary" box really is, all these pens, pencils, erasers, memo notepad, pen case, etc! I wouldn't be surprised that they are meant for the office or school rather than "art supplies".
You have to push the ink cartridge in until it clicks then the ink can come out the fountain pen nib. I used fountain pens at school, I actually think we were taught how to use them, my favourite was my Ninja Turtles pen. The clean up van is adorable 😍😍
The Pelikan fountain pen is a German brand :) children use them in school to learn how to gain a good handwriting skill (note: Germans learn cursive-script ((Joined-up writing))at the 3th grade for writing)
I grew up having to use a fountain pen at school and being left handed it was a nightmare not to smudge the ink even with blotting paper. On the plus side, we used to keep the balls from the ink cartridges and put them in the bottom of our UHU glue sticks as they had a cap at the bottom which made a nice secret compartment.
The ruby pen is absolutely beautiful if I had a 150 dollars laying around I would buy this the stationary is nice.
Hats off to Jackie for reviewing a 150 dollars advent calendar just so that we don't have to spend a lot of money. 🥺❤️ She is the best ✨🔥
Your expectations are…. ahhhh. Jackie. My love. NerdECrafter. The whole thing is more suited towards someone who bullet journals than crafts. More suited towards an high school student than an elementary student!
What you keep calling calligraphy pens are fountain pens & are super super fancy! JetPens has a bunch of fountain pen videos if you need to know more!
For anyone here interested in fountain pens - yes, they're still a thing! They are a level up from ball point and you have unlimited ink options including shimmer and sheen! I recommend going down the fountain pen rabbit hole 😊
My sib got me a nice one for Christmas last year and I love it...don't use itnmuch. :/
I love using fountain pens! Although I always manage to get ink on my fingers no matter how careful I think I am 😂
@@nonsensicalname you can even get fancy inks in bottles for them. Some use cartridges. Some have a suction piston you need to twist
I have a few of them, I find my handwriting is much better with them that with ball pens lol
Not to forget the scented ink
I think this is more of a specialty advent. I've bought from cult pens several times to buy refills, they're a great company and that final fountain pen looked amazing! I bet it writes like butter!
20:00 Day 20 is my absolute favorite, sometimes you just need something on your desk that brings a smile to your face on those difficult days. The eraser pushbroom car is just that, how can you use it and not smile.

i feel you were too mean to this advent calendar! everything is such high quality stationary with very much so a running theme, aka stationary.
not everything from japan is going to be super crazy insane, quirky or weird. it upset me when you said the car cleaner was what you expect from something Japanese 😭 it’s a common stereotype.
amazing advent calendar, and i’d be happy to get it with the intention of knowing it’s for stationary.
It's a stationary calendar so I wouldn't expect "fun" art supplies x3
As a pen nerd I squealed at this! I'd loose my mind if I had it 😅
My day is 13 and I got the blue pen with the turtle. I love that you open the random things. We all know your obsession with stickers, stationery and japan. This box gives you all of it. Plus the random moneky stuff is hilarious 😂
I’m March 13th :)
@@hjs1689 lol jackie said she didnt want months or years but Im a june baby
I know. :) That’s why I only commented 13th in the general comments section. I only included March in your reply comment.
I like the colorful and adorable erasers and pencil cases; the pencils, and pens, are cute too. 😍👍
I loved and was watching with my eyes wide open at the last item as she's saying it feels cheap and that it is plastic and us viewers knowing the price before she says the price in the end.
Pelikan is a German brand, hence the "k". It's pretty nostalgic for me because we all learned writing with fountain pens (a chonkier type though). You have to twist in the ink cartridge to make sure the top is open, then gently use it until it works.
Everyone pretty much telling Jackie "you're doing it wrong" 😂😂😂😂😂
So I fell asleep or watching your videos last night I went for like six of them. Yeah I now I need to go back to rewatch with those
I love that my videos can help you relax/feel safe to sleep to! I have comfort UA-camrs too
The pen with the nib is called a cartridge pen because of the ink cartridge inside. I haven't seen one of those in decades. But you got it right. When you screw on the top it pierces the cartridge so the ink comes out.
Number 19. I got two coloring markers. I've never used anything like this before, but I'm pleased with my surprise : )
I can't believe that last pen costs so much!
I would call this advent calendar a Pen and Pencil Sampler box. Not the kind of calendar I would want to buy.
We actually call them fountain pens more commonly in english. Still incredibly popular - but typically more of an aficionado kinda thing.
Fountain pens were the precursor of the cartridge pen. I'm 70 and had a fountain pen way back when : ) It had a tiny lever on the side of the pen. You would open the lever, dip the pen in the bottle of ink, then close the lever. I guess it was like a miniature pump. I loved writing with it, but the ink was messy. That's why we used to have these huge blotters on our desks. I was glad when they came out with cartridges.@@BassKittehz
Honestly, I don’t think it’s lacking too much of a theme! There are a couple odd balls of course- but I think people into bullet journaling or even general note taking would actually love this box. Lots of pens, a few fun things thrown in for pops of color and highlighting- it really felt like a bullet journal advent calendar to me haha
I used Pelikan inks years ago when I was dabbling in calligraphy. They've been around for a while in the USA. Nice quality.
Why do I always find out about these advent calendars too late? 😭💕 I would've been all over this!!!
Oh, didn't expect you to be here for some reason! 😂❤
@@weehoozy4454 Are you kidding? Hahaha I watch almost all of Jackie's videos xD I'm an avid NerdECrafter viewer! ehem.. salt shaker/grain
@@CreativeCarrah I should have known you'd be a grain! 😂 I love your art ❤
Zebra pens are very common in the UK. They're known for being cheap but reliable. They're the most common pens in school for that reason. Almost everyone I know used one for GCSEs
I absolutely love that you are trying to fit pencils into a pen case. Specifically for pens.
Those Tombow pencils are absolutely amazing. I have the full collection except for the last 10 because they put them out separately after I bought the full set and they are some of my favourite colour pencils
It's kind of frustrating to keep hearing, "I see it at the dollar store" because while you might see the lower end of the *brand* at the dollar store doesn't mean every item from the company is going to be dollar store quality. Also, the calendar seems more like it's a sampler of items so you can get an idea of what you might want to buy from them individually. And washi tape can have differences. Does it stick well? Does it stick too much and tear the paper? Drafting pencils have a longer lead sleeve, which allows for a thinner lead and are for precision. The wooden pencil you got is specific to sketching, not just "a pencil." I feel like there were a lot of misses in this review.
this didn't feel like overstock at all, I'm an avid Japanese stationary user and I've used a majority of the products featured and have others in my wishlist. Your review was particularly abrasive this time around-- I kind of wish you hadn't reviewed it at all if it was going to be this unpleasant for you. I hope you can find an art supply box that is more suited towards your taste. I actually didn't know this box existed or I would have purchased it myself as it looks like a fantastic set for stationary lovers.
Jackie i feel like you weren't judging this box fairly. That box is not artsy theme its design for office/or high school and the pensil case is not made for everything its made for pens only since somd pens are shorter than pencils
I’m in the UK, in school (90s & early 00’s) we were required to write only with fountain pens (the calligraphy pen) and had to use blue ink. I’m left handed & i would smudge my work constantly because the ink stays wet for a few seconds (I had so many ink remover pens for emergency’s) Now, times have changed & kids can use the proper handwriting pens instead of faffing with cartridges & posh Parker’s 😆
I think this advent calender was for Stationery hoarders. Specially since japanese stationery is very nice. So i think it was a very nice advent calender.
