      This song has amazed me for over 40 years. When I first heard it I felt like I was experiencing something completely from another plane of reality, like hearing the musings of some strange, never before seen god.

      You’re exactly correct that’s what’s special about this record & KC era
      it just landed on earth with its own thing
      I saw the tour in 1982 and I still marvel that not only was the music crazy but all four guys were playing instruments and/or devices that didn’t look or sound like what other people had (stick, guitar synths, Simmons electronic drums, ring mod boxes with new controls, etc)
      and that’s still true looking back at the video 40+ years later

    I was 16 when I bought this album (from my hard-earned money working as a supermarket assistant). I did that based on a favorable review in some magazine, and a desire to widen my musical horizon. In my 'circles' it wasn't normal back then to buy King Crimson albums, but I just thought 'What the heck' and shelled out the cash.
    Boy, was I happy when I got home, my parents weren't there, and I could play the music as loud as I could stomach. It sounds funny, but I felt 'proud' to have gotten this music into my life.
    So I made a cassette tape and took it up to school. We had a cantina where we could play our own music on Friday afternoons. I pushed 'play', 'Elephant Talk' came up, and right away I saw the most beautiful girl of the school get up and dance, with movements that made me weak in the knees. I took that moment as a reward for having had the guts to delve into King Crimson. A moment to never forget.

    I've never believed the doom-and-gloom stuff. Certainly Mr. Fripp can be very serious indeed, but I don't think you or Belew or Tony Levin would even have joined the band in the first place, if being in it felt like a German expressionist film--let alone *stayed* in the band and made so much amazing music together. Speaking of which: Thank you for sharing this excellent performance.

    • @sunsetman22

      I think the doom and gloom stuff only applies to the early era of the band, especially around Lizard. 80's Crimson though? they were having the time of their lives. the fact that this particular iteration of KC stayed together for so long proves that in my opinion. they were magic together.

    • @MarceloKatayama
      @MarceloKatayama 2 роки тому +18

      @@sunsetman22 They always had fun on stage. It was studio recording that presented the biggest hurdle to the band. Sadly, the 80s were no exception. They had a great time recording discipline, with Fripp reportedly being "very excited". However, when it came to recording beat, friction within the band started to form. Apparently, Adrian even dismissed Fripp from the studio, told him to get out. Fripp, subsequently, disappeared for 3 days after the incident. They got him back into the studio and they finished the album. By all accounts, King Crimson had broken up by 1982. Yet, somehow, they just kept going to produce three of a perfect pair on 1984.

Eso les abrió las puertas a otros horizontes y lograron la suficiente inspiración para conseguir algo genial.

This is really the primary lineup that I am familiar with, but many of the earlier and later configurations I honestly have no idea. That would be most kind and helpful Good sir, since you are already taking the time to add your insightful thoughts along with the performances, *PLEASE*, if you would, if you could just take a few seconds to add these helpful details that would round out these lovely experiences perfectly, thank you! 😊

Really fantastic, and I sticked to it, until today, I still enjoy this set up and the albums you did altogether. THANK YOU very much.
