I couldn't justify the expense of a pod before... but wanted one. Now I am headed to the store for a frying pan to make my own! Awesome $$ saving how-to! Much appreciated.
You are so welcome
great video!
esp. the wooden piece is really smart....thank you😊
Thank you! 😊
Nice tutorial, Moose! Well thought out and clearly explained. Thanks!
Hello Moose, thank you for sharing the reasons for the use of a ground pod, and the "how to" of making one. Outdoor greetings from Germany, Michael
@@MooseHenderson1 Yesterday I found your channel. Looked for "ground pod" in the search. Ant then discovered: you have a lot to offer for my Interest in beeing outdoors, making videos about this, and enjoying nature. --> made a "subscribe", and hav a lot of videos in front of me. Keep on makting the good videos. Greetings, Michael
Great video Moose Henderson i will be making my own soon and your video gave me good info not to use the thin stainless steel pans. i will be looking for a thicker pan so i dont run into flexing problems thank you again. you got me to subscribe cheers keep up the good work
I really like the idea of making something for a 1/10 to cost of buying it. Instead of using a hole saw one could also just approximate to spacer with a hand saw. Takes a little more time but can be done. Or just even a square block.
Just seeing this now great video, great way to save money for better glass.
Very useful tutorial. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Ingenious!
You could go to a garden center and buy a large plastic plate for putting under flower pots. That should be cheaper and you don't have to remove the handle.
Indeed, many solutions to this problem.
Thanks Moose! Great tutorial…gonna make these this weekend and save myself £80! ❤
Thank you so much, you are so kind. Let me know any problems or if I can provide any addition information. I have an ebook I can send you if you send me an email at moosehenderson@yahoo.com
Thanks! Nice and easy way of making a ground pod. But recently I was on a beach and wind was so fierce that at lower level, sand was hitting my feet like crazy. I ate lots of sand particles while standing. My backpack collected lot of sand in its netting and still dropping sand to the floor.
That happens 😀
Thank you very much!
Sure thing
Thanks for the video, think I will make one =)
hi moose just found your you tube site great information cheers
@@MooseHenderson1 thanks moose just purchased new tri pod after watching your video amazon uk deliver sunday cant beat that
Hi there nice idea, one thing I would do is use a flat head bolt so that would stop it catching on the ground., if you could not find a flat head bolt then you could hammer a bent in the pan to lift it off the ground.
I replaced the square head bolt with carriage bolt that is rounded
Hi Moose, as a dog photographer I've been looking at platypods...what a fabulously inventive idea to use a frying pan. Great video, well explained. Thank you.
I have done lots of dogs, I assume you will use a zoom like 70-200 or 100-400. I would recommend the larger frying pan as more stable and less likely yo tip if you need to help dog
I also like using potato chip bars, small foil like ones, for getting ears peaked up with dogs, not so good with grizzly bears, they want the smell of the chips and you risk an encounter. Of course, Rotties and Dobbies can also give a bit of an encounter
@@MooseHenderson1 Yes the latest Nikon 70-200 f2.8 on an ancient D3. Thank you for the tip, I really appreciate that. Thank you for your time. Thank you so much Moose.
@@MooseHenderson1 - Thank you for the extra tips on getting those winning dog shots. I really appreciate it. Thanks. I love your sense of humour, as far as I know there are no grizzly bears in the UK, but plenty of Grizzlies 😁. Really pleased I came across your channel. Thank you Moose.
@@heathermtaylor7683 The D3 is an awesome body, used it for a couple years during my two years in Siberia.
I just replaced my old 10 in, heavy frying pan with a new one. I used the old one to make this ground pod. It turned out very nice but at my age, I find it a little low. I may get a 6 in bolt to raise it up. Just curious, how does one get their face to the ground when the ARCA plate is about level with the pan?
@@MooseHenderson1 Moose, would you see any good reason or advantage to putting a ball head on the ground pod?
Hi! from the point of 5:33 in this video,I don't understand what you mean. what exactly is that rubber part, can you buy that?? Greetings
@@MooseHenderson1 Ok now I get it.Many Thanks. your idea is awesome, will tinker something tomorrow :)
I'm sure you could find a frying pan at a garage sale for even less
"It's probably best not to take one from the kitchen" LOL! 'cauze momma will hit you in the head with a frying pan!
Great video,
I just made my ground pod last week also used an old frying pan which my wife found for me.
I tested it with my D4 and 300mm VR II attached to it with a swing and not a ball head, it worked flawlessly and it makes me really happy.
I've put a link here to my FB page where I have some photos posted of my ground pod (if not aloud I'll delete the link)

I used 4 countersunk headed bolts to attach the spacer block onto the frying pan, the bottom of the pan stays flat because of the
countersunk headed bolts so you can also work with this ground pod on hard surfaces.
