    love when I get recommended great videos like this
    timing is crazy too - I need to build my mom a handicap shower so I'm probably going to end up doing a full tear out and rebuild

    Great concise video and I'm going to use your technique if I ever run into a TJI subfloor. The one detail I'd add would be an 8" or so strip of Kerdi fabric half under the pan and half under the Ditra to protect that joint where the two meet, but you did you due diligence with the flood test so cheers.

    Not that my opinion matters, I would've NEVER thought of doing this. The way I would've done this would've taken longer, been more invasive, and been more work. Great job.

    Nice work and video detailing the trick of interplaying the pan with existing joists.

    So is it the shower pan system that has a slope in it to the drain?! Super cool

    Excellent video! I happened to come across a bathroom like this today and I was wondering what to do. Thank you very much!!
    I have a silly question, does the base you put in have any unevenness that makes the water go to the center? Thanks

    Question. Why use screws instead of a nail gun when bracing the floor?
    The reason I ask is because I’ve always used screws, and they’re a pain to me. I’ve been looking and getting a framing nailer.
    The end result looks so good!

      I think they said they glued and screwed the 2x4s. If using glue (construction adhesive) you want to use screws to press in the adhesive.

    Nice video. I'm currently remodeling our bathroom and we've got those same floor i-joists (14 in tall). Question for you: When you reinforced the webbing, did you have the 3/4-in plywood pieces flush with the bottom of the flange and then a gap at the top flange + how much gap should be there?

    • @CentennialRenovation
      @CentennialRenovation  9 місяців тому +2

      It doesn't matter if there's a little Gap or if it fits tight. The webbing reinforcing is not there to provide any additional strength to the TJI's (although it does). Its purpose is just to fill the void so that you can put a 2x4 on the side of the TJI and drop the subfloor.

      Cool, thanks! It's been challenging to find info on this subject. Some of the manufacturers even insist that you should use their own proprietary web blocking for this, but I can't see how it's any different from the OSB that you used..

  • @buck-johnson
    @buck-johnson 6 місяців тому

    That is not plywood, that is OSB. You're explain that you're filling in the web a few times but don't ever explain why. Did you rip the existing joists down? Did I miss where you said that? If so did you get an engineers report?

    Greenhorn question what’s on the bottom of the floor joist? Is that for insulating the floor ? I would have expected to just see grade or some sorts underneath the joist thanks or maybe this is on a second floor?

    • @CentennialRenovation
      @CentennialRenovation  9 місяців тому

      It's on the second floor. So that the drywall ceiling underneath.

    that Wood you use to the TJI with green color at the border? Is it plywood 7/8? Is it Flooring? Is it 7/8? How do i look for it? I cant find nothing to perfectly fit on TJI like that , at least on regular hardware stores.

    • @CentennialRenovation
      @CentennialRenovation  11 місяців тому +2

      I believe you are referring to the plywood (osb) that I used to fill in the webs? TJI floor joists come in different dimensions and you'll need to measure the distance between the web and the outside of the top cord to figure out what size plywood you need it. Mine was just standard 3/4 inch so I used the same plywood that I used for the flooring. You should find something close at your local hardware store.

    Construction adhesive on subfloor but Elmers wood glue on rough framing , {and minimal amount } ,DUDE REALLY !!

    • @cmmartti
      @cmmartti 11 місяців тому +1

      PVA glue on a tight wood-to-wood joint will be stronger than construction adhesive. Even still, he could have omitted the PVA glue and it would have been fine.
      The adhesive under the subfloor is mainly to prevent squeaks; it doesn't serve any structural purpose.

      What @cmmartti said, you beat me to it.
      @billhammilton7524, Yes, everything is glued and screwed together. The subfloor was glued down with sub-floor glue and nailed with ringshank nails. I am pretty confident that it isn't going anywhere. How would you do. It differently?
