Good for you mentioning the ADA standards and especially the space required for a wheelchair to turn around. When you build the ramp for your mom that is another opportunity to share some important information.
Thank you. I’m glad I found your channel. I’m 61 and I plan on buying an older house when I retire in two years. I don’t like bathtubs, so one thing I’m sure I’ll need to do is convert a tube into a shower.
Back in the day, my must see Saturday morning viewing was a PBS broadcast titled "This Old House". Unfortunately that broadcast has changed over the years to be nothing more than corporate advertising [IMO]. Luckily Stud Pack has arrived on the scene! Daily I check for a new episode. I've learn more from watching Stud Pack than any other channel on UA-cam. Has Stud Pack ever considered reaching out to your local PBS broadcaster? Your hands-on practical style and teamwork is always refreshing and rewarding to watch.
Fantastic channel chalk full of information. What a Great son, I'm sure mom is proud and appreciates the work. God bless her, and hope she makes a full recovery. My dad is 95, but he can't stand up at all anymore.
Awesome stuff! I like how you framed the recessed floor out, all great ideas. I’m sure those ledgers add some strength back after notching the joist out too. A tip from a non pro - ditch all the blades and get Diablo everything. They cut like butter and last forever. Even when you hit nails with that circular saw. Multi tool, saws, everything. They’re worth it.
This has got to be one of my new favorite channels. It's such a great energy for a channel, clear, practical and explanatory in a way that doesn't make me feel dumb or waste time.
I love the way you all pull together as a family. Hope your Mom is feeling better. She has some great kids and Mother's are a national treasure , enjoy every minute you have left. I wish I still had my Mother
For anyone redoing a bathroom, making the shower future ready is a great idea. It just take a small event for plans to change. If a shower is already ready at the house, it makes the transition that much easier. Great work guys!
Thanks for mentioning the walk in tub filling/draining issues, as this is often overlooked. We looked into those tubs when we first ran into some health and mobility issues with my mom (and she’s only 70!); the dealer kept calling and trying to pressure us into buying one for over 2 years. We’re doing a completely off grid home so water and energy conservation is a key area, and we won’t even have city pressure levels. I’m looking at having to set up a dual system with on demand propane hot water for summer and a water jacket and tank system off a wood cook stove for winter.
Agreed! the physics of just how much water those things use and how long it takes to fill is glossed over (or ignored) during sales pitches. This curbless shower is a MUCH better option! There's a big business ripping out those expensive walk-in tubs and replacing with regular showers.
@@yvongauthier4409 sorry I can’t find it, there’s a lot of comments! It’s good to know they are improving, but we will be running on rainwater catchment with a very, very small off grid plumbing system. 12v RV pump… we had planned for a bigger system initially, but life happens and things change.

Stud Pack you guys keep rockin' it! Keep up the great videos, great instruction, great tips, AND great "projects". Hats off to your editing that blasts through the slow and repetitive stuff!
I appreciate your wisdom. I'm doing the same thing for a friend. I have 40+ years in remodel construction and 30+ years in tile installation, and in all those years of work, the most important thing I've learned is that I never stop learning.

No joke! I tried to hire a few different builders, and I got the impression that they were thinking, "Not for any amount of money." So, maybe I'll do it. Can I borrow your tools? All I have is a miter saw
The way you take a mess of s worksite and make it manageable is really cool...and the way you've grown into your UA-cam channel feels just as organic and easy. Kudos to all of you!
Any reduction in strength of the floor joists by reducing their depth is more than compensated for by the members provided to each side to support the floor panels. Love the work you do.
Is that true? I would think that the only added strength related to those members comes from the sheer strength of the screws holding those boards. If the screws break, the boards fall to the ground. Therefore the boards themselves provide no support to fight against gravity, no?
Great looking shower! I have exactly the same problem with my linear drain, terrible terrible to clean, l agree with you a regular small round drain is much easier to deal with

Hey Studpack. I worry about your eyes. You both should be wearing the correct tint safety glasses when using lasers. Even low powered green lasers are strong enough to do damage.
I like your build you did an awesome job. Jordan, pay attention to dad when he explains things, demonstrates things, or summarizes his work. There is a reason for doing that and your it. Good point on the walk in tubs with the door. I never knew they take 20 plus minutes to drain before you can open the door to get out. Even the idea of getting inside then waiting for it to fill up.

Definitely always best practice to remove damaged materials but On some applications the minwax penetration wood rot prevention is a option. Once it’s scraped out apply let dry and epoxy into area rot free if hard to reach areas - scab on a block to finish off -
How’s and Why’s, that’s the reason your channel is so valuable to the DIY community.
Really like the shower valve on the opposite wall from the shower head! No more getting wet turning on the shower. Pretty slick
And mum can't accidentally grab it for stability and unintentionally turn the temperature up!
I watch many, many videos. This is my favorite video. I am a master plumber of over 40 years. I learned volumes from this video. Great presentation and great cinematography! Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!
Just want to leave a comment talking about how good of a natural presenter you are. Don’t see enough praise for it but you are a great host. Feels like I’m watching a high production value tv show.
Agreed, no arrogance, obviously good natured and wise/plenty of foresight. Great combo in a human being and we are lucky they choose to share!
Absolutely agreed. This content is criminally underrated - be sure to sub and get alerts so it kicks him up a bit in the algos.
There was nothing New for me in this video, but it has been half a century since I last did any framing. A Review is always nice. I don't remember what I had for supper yesterday, however, it's nice to remember how I did my work in my teens.
Thank you.
Glad I found you. My son tried to explain the process of the new shower I want. Your video of your mothers new shower was exactly what I needed to see. Now I understand what he was explaining to me. With the exact same products you used. Thank you
It's nice listening to smart people for a change. Thank you!
I've been doing this kind of work for 40 years and have learned, like you have, not to let "the perfect be the enemy of the good". What I can't figure out is how you manage to make coherent and entertaining video while doing the job. Hat's off!!!
I agree, and to boot working with your son together as a team nice job!
I'm a tile installer in southern California, great video I appreciate your craftsmanship, integrity of your skill!! Keep rocking & rolling.
Cheers!
Luckily Stud Pack has arrived on the scene!
Your Mom is very lucky to have you as a son! God bless!
For anyone redoing a bathroom, making the shower future ready is a great idea. It just take a small event for plans to change. If a shower is already ready at the house, it makes the transition that much easier. Great work guys!
Your a good son. Speedy recovery to your Mom. Appreciate your work, I'm redoing my grandfathers 100 year old house and you give me encouragement.
Awesome thx Deborah 👍
There's a big business ripping out those expensive walk-in tubs and replacing with regular showers.
look for my comment... they have improved. I bought one in late 2021...
@@yvongauthier4409 sorry I can’t find it, there’s a lot of comments! It’s good to know they are improving, but we will be running on rainwater catchment with a very, very small off grid plumbing system. 12v RV pump… we had planned for a bigger system initially, but life happens and things change.
You are a very good teacher.
Thorough and easy to understand.
Thank you.
As a Tile Contractor who does this to get my slopes In I would be amazed if I was subbed out by you. Perfect base for tile work!
Aint that th truth! I think in 30 yrs i have maybe run across 4 or 5 floors that i didnt have to prep ! These guys would make it easy!
LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!! SUCH AN AMAZING FATHER & SON DUO❤❤ & PROVIDING YOUR MOTHER WITH A SAFE & BEAUTIFUL BATHROOM IS HEARTWARMING!!!! SHE IS BLESSED!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR ACT OF LOVE & KINDNESS!!! ❤
You are the dad that we all needed! Thank you for all the amazing videos.
Love the communication between you, the personality including humor, the why behind your choices, and the overall editing. Very nice!
Great explanations, clear, exact and easy to follow. I am looking forward to seeing more of your projects.
My favorite channel on UA-cam without question. God bless you guys.
Liked and subscribed. This *exact* project is what my parents need in their home, but I don't have the skills to take it on. However, after watching this, when I hire someone to do it, I know I'm going to be armed with the right knowledge to make sure that my parents get a safe and quality walk-in shower. Thank you StudPack! BTW, I love that you've got this as a family affair. A man knows he raised his boys right when they are best friends!
Thanks for sharing the reasoning behind all of your steps to building the shower. I learned lots of techniques and important ideas from this video.
Stud Pack you guys keep rockin' it! Keep up the great videos, great instruction, great tips, AND great "projects". Your remodels are almost always in the "practical" realm for DIY folks: attacking common "problems" that "we" want (or need) to attack also. Your instructional style keeps it moving quickly but still pauses to cover the key details very clearly, not only explaining HOW you do certain things but WHY.
I'm impressed with your building knowledge. Moreover, I'm very impressed with your relationships with your family. There is a lot of love and respect. You and your wife have done a magnificent job with your children.

Amen.
Paul, you get the come on man award. You should have been inspecting your mom's house. When my dad and older brother died. I made sure I drove them 2 hrs to inspect my mom's house. Great work, and great tips.
I died laughing at the photoshopped six-pack on Paul 😂 awesome sense of humor on these two. Great work guys, hope your mom/grandma recovers well and gets to enjoy her new shower for many more years!
'Shopped??? You mean to tell me that wasn't real??? Oh, the horror!!!
@@kensherwin4544 😎
the great thing is that you are speaking with a lot of respéct concerning your mother , very nice , lo bonito es que usted habla con mucho respeto de su madre , esto es padre
Wow!!! These videos are always awesome and super helpful to watch!!! I’m actually trying to do a repair now with no knowledge of what to to do!! Keep up the videos guys and the good vibes while making these videos!!
Love how you broke everything down step by step with why each step was taken. Thank you so much for putting out content like this!!!
Cool thx General 👊
This is really impressive. I can guarantee if you had hired someone to do this they would not have gone squeezing into that tiny space to make it work. You're a good son to take care of your mom in this way!
@@m.zehner7145 the boards were also extended to the frame of the house on the far end as well for support, but very good questions.
They put ledger boards, if there’s a leak to rust the screws there’s bigger problems.
Great looking shower! I have exactly the same problem with my linear drain, terrible terrible to clean, l agree with you a regular small round drain is much easier to deal with
Really like watching you guys work your way through problems, very helpful!
God bless you, sir, for taking care of your mother.
Amazing work, guys. I have such a deep appreciation for how thorough your work is. Your dedication to your craft is exemplary and encouraging. I humbly offer you a motto for your business: “StudPack: Where Excellence and Integrity Meet!” (Still praying for your mom❤️)
18:22 minutes into the video. My favorite part. I've always wondered how to utilize a lazer level to its fullest and that board trick was spot on. Thanks for another tool for the toolbox. I love what you guys do. Keep posting.
Hey Studpack. I worry about your eyes. You both should be wearing the correct tint safety glasses when using lasers. Even low powered green lasers are strong enough to do damage.
These video are great. Very educational. Love that you went and found matching tile instead of tearing down the whole house.
"Easier to build the wall than to change their minds." 😉😀
I like your build you did an awesome job. Jordan, pay attention to dad when he explains things, demonstrates things, or summarizes his work. There is a reason for doing that and your it. When you begin doing your own projects you have a good foundation to reference. He is a good man to learn from. Hope Mom gets better soon I know she will love it.
"Its alot easier to build a wall than change a woman's mind" - put that on a T-shirt!
Thank you for sharing this. I’m actually having a curbless ADA shower built in my 1/2 bath & closet now. Knowing about what all goes into this is really helpful. Mine is underneath the staircase & next to the under stairs compartment so yes lots of things being moved around & relocated such as doors, plumbing & electrical.
Instructions unclear. I built my shower without curbs and my neighbors car drove into it because there was nothing stopping them.
If you are not into construction you should think about starting a new career. You’ve already got the sense of humor lol I’m sure the trades would love to have you.
Good point on the walk in tubs with the door. I never knew they take 20 plus minutes to drain before you can open the door to get out.
Even the idea of getting inside then waiting for it to fill up.
I love how you describe the details of the measurements in regards to the materials you are using, very helpful.
Thanks, Chuck
I restored a 100+ year old house. There wasn't a straight line in the place. I learned quickly to use story poles to make measurements. Great job!
Thank Goodness for the impact drill driver, airgun nailer and oscillating tools....Very nice project....design build. Most every project don't go according to plans. Great job!
I'm an amatuer, but do allot of my own work. This is the ONLY post I have watched all the way thru. EXCELLENT JOB sir!!!
Watching you guys is like drinking an ice cold beer on a really hot day. So Smooth, Im Loving it! Im 66, been in home Improvement 25 years, still going strong.
Your one of,the guys that’s actually a professional on UA-cam. And you seem like a great dude. Good job
