- Swapping out the stock handlebar for the mini-apes (5" rise). Turned out to be a bit more work than I expected.. Particularly the clutch cable! But worth the $350 I saved in labor.
I just installed mid rise bars on my 2017 chieftain limited and used your video. I greatly appreciate how detailed your instructions were. It made the job much easier....thank you
Glad to help!
OMG bro!!! You're a better man than I....I would have had the dealer do all that stuff!! My wrenchin' days are far behind me!!! Great video...great job!!!
Thank you for posting your project!! Looking forward to many more Indian How-To videos on UA-cam.
Posted a couple more since this... check them out...
Great video my dealer quoted me 6 hours and that was about what it took. Thanks a bunch
Oh yea... it's a bear of a job for sure! Glad you got it done! -chad
Great video!! After watching it, you've talked me out of replacing my bars LOL
LOL! It was a bit of work! There was another comment I can't find, where a guy had the dealer install risers. Much less expensive way to the same result.
After watching I decided to do it myself not a bad job at all
Thanks for posting. Looking forward to getting my Roadmaster! Subbed to see how you enjoy and mod your bike. Beautiful motorcycle btw.
“What the fuck is that” lol 😂. Great video
Wow! That's a lot of work for switching handle bars! Thank you for sharing this, good information. Was it worth it? do you like the new bars?
Very much worth it IMO! But I think it's more a preference in riding... I prefer arms straight out or slightly up when riding.
I have a roadmaster too, same color. I got those mid rise bars put on, so happy with them. Much better ride.
Excellent video. Very informative. You gave me the confidence to do it myself. Great job, enjoy the bike. Ride safe.
Great Video, hope you make more as you do stuff to your Indian. By the way, just bought the exact same bike. Take delivery in a few days...
Cheers
Absolutely LOVING the roadmaster! Be sure to head over to indianmotorcycles.net... lots of good info there.
Thanks for this video, I got KST 6” bars for my 2017 Roadmaster, been wanting taller bars for a long time. Your step by step video was the confidence boost I needed to go ahead!! The wiring was the biggest unknown, once it’s in the bar it’s lights out. Twisting the wire was very helpful, baby powder may also help? 👍😎😁
Greg Martisius I am starting my install of the KST 6” bars. How much wiring did you have out of the base of the bars? I have the throttle side installed and about 5” of wire bundle out of the base.
Any issue with the clutch side grip? See to have an issue with the screw alignment on the grip
Nice video. Just finished swapping my bars. My dealer quoted me a bit over $500.00 so no way was I paying that.
Chad, Did you use adhesive when you put the heated grips back on? I just bought a pair and I dont seem to think I actually need it...?? Awesome videos btw.. very informative.. did my header and slip-ons according to the last video i watched!!
Hmmmmm.. It's been a long time, but I don't think I did. It's certainly simple to add some later if you need it. ~chad
lol did you ever figure out what that beeping was LOL the random "what the fuck is that?" was funny
LOL.. Still not sure.... I think my wife's phone was connecting to my bluetooth speaker when I would video.
Chad not sure if you are monitoring this video from a couple years ago but … I had my bars replaced by the dealer yesterday (charged me 2 hours labor on my Chieftain), I went with Dirty Bird Concept bars. They weren't as tall/high as the Indian Midrise which was what I was shooting for. Anyhow, my question is on the clutch side control pod can that be adjusted easily to tilt the controls toward or away from you. I just questioned my dealer and he thought they might have an alignment pin and hole on the bars. He is going to check with the tech but thought I might get an answer from you as well. Can you just loosen the 3 bolts and rotate the control cluster in which ever direction you need?? Thanks.
There is an alignment pin... But, I see no reason a new pin hole couldn't be made in the bars... ~chad
Thanks Chad.
Hello, Does your navigation still work or did you have to get a subscription? Is it possible to connect your phone to the display for navigation.
Nav works fine. We mostly use my phone for nav. It doesn't have car-play, so display is on phone only.
Great video how long total working time did it take?
Man.. it's been a while... If I had it to do over again, I'd plan on 4 hours.
Congrats! I was about ready to give up about 3 times just watching the video. Makes you anxious when you attempt these things yourself?
You prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Holden Barrett instablaster :)
@Cody Jimmy Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Cody Jimmy It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out !
@Holden Barrett happy to help :)
The volume on my laptop is very low so maybe I didn't hear you mention if you had to lengthen the wires for the new bars? Also, are these the "Mid-Rise Bars" Indian advertise as accessories?
Sorry about the volume.. it is a little low. The part number is visible at 0:28 (2881932).. yes.. Indian accessory. It comes with the slightly longer clutch cable. Everything else is already long enough to reach. Now that I know how to get the old clutch cable out, I could do the job in half the time.. Not too difficult, but definitely more work than any other mod I've done... Getting Stage 2 cams next week and will be making before and after sound comparisons as well as dynojet PVCX programming start to finish since I'll need to overwrite the dealer tune.
Got to add cams! What exhaust you going/went with? I'm torn between vance & hines and freedom performance.
Got the Vance and Hines Classics.. LOVE them! I have a video of installing them on here... good before and after sound comparison at the end.
Okay, took my 2017 RM to my dealer for its 15000 mile service. While there the tech put on a set of risers made by ROC, that I purchased from the good people at Witchdoctor.
He didn't have to take the fairing off, only went through the headlight housing.
Did not have to change any of the cables.
He had me sit on my bike and adjusted the handle bars to my liking.
I'm going on a 2000 plus mile road trip next month and believe this will make the ride much more comfortable for me.
Very cool! Love to see a pic if you have a link to it posted somewhere... Or email info@changinglanesrv.com
Changing Lanes , I would send you a photo in a second, but I'm pretty much cyber special ed. I'll get my 14 year old grand niece to show me how.
So please tell us, how do you like the risers? I installed apes on my last bike. a Harley. Holy cow what a project especially wiring them myself. totally worth it for ride comfort but damn. Just bought a roadmaster and bars just a little low for me. if risers do the trick Im all in.
I love them! Just don't like my hands down that low either. If you have an indian dealer nearby, they will sometimes have one on the floor with the riser bars. Might not be a roadmaster, but it will be a 111 model and you can get a feel for them. Side Safe! -chad
Awesome walk through, helps to prepare, how do you get your hands on the printed directions you have?
Those came with the handlebars.
Chad Florian I'm sure I would know that if I opened up the box hahah
14:42...pizza's ready!
LOL! I forgot about that!
Thank you for filming this. It seems yer the only one whose got a thorough "How To" for Indian Chief. I have a 2016 Classic and wanna change the bars. Yer video is invaluable!
Glad I was able to assist! If you're interested in seeing how we travel around the country with our indian, my wife and I have a channel: ua-cam.com/users/changinglanes Keep the shiny side up! -chad
do you find you hands in the wind more and that to be annoying? someone mentioned this to me. Im Trench from the indian forums btw
Hands are in the wind a bit more but I was already used to that. The occasional bug strike to the knuckles is worth the more comfortable position IMO.
How wide are those handlebars? I’m thinking about picking up a set
Center grip to center grip is 35" (total width is 40")
That’s what she said 😂👍🏽
😎
What’s the brand of the handlebar?
Indian. 👍🏼
@@ChadsStuff how tall is it? Can you share the link please?
I believe it's this one: www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/shop/accessories/handlebars/mid-rise-handlebar-kit/?pid=2882923-410
But, it says that it doesn't fit the roadmaster. I would talk to your dealer. Things hight have changed in the last few years.
Winy not just put risers on instead of new bars?
Don't think risers would work with the way the bars are routed through the fairing. -chad
Changing Lanes Really? I bought risers that said they were made for the Roadmaster and was going to have my dealer put them on.
Well, I reckon ill find out if they'll work or not.
Thank you for getting back with me.
Hmmmm.. I mean, I could be wrong. But having taken it apart, I can't imagine risers would work. If they do, it would certainly mitigate unwiring and rewiring. Keep me posted. Really curious now. 😎 -chad
Changing Lanes ,Okay, yes, I will. Taking it in this Thursday for service. Ill give you an update .
Changing Lanes, Forgot to mention that the risers I got are made by ROX.
How dare you assume the gender of those connectors? 🤣
LOL! True! I'm so insensitive! 😜
good vid, but your audio sucks
yep! sure does! LOL My motorcycle vids are all quick and dirty vids using an iphone.
