I LOVE YOU! Just finished an oversized twin for my nephew! trimmed it, cut Shannon, Cuddle 3 minky, into strips and bound all in such a short afternoon.
I think the yellow cuddle was the perfect choice for this quilt! It looks great! Thank you for going through the entire application process. I love seeing how other quilters apply their binding. Its something I need to improve!
Thank you Di :). I knocked out a baby quilt binding in minutes, binding your way and it is gorgeous. I made one of the same baby quilt bringing the cuddle to the front and it is pretty, BUT...the identical quilt I trimmed edges and then cut the cuddle 3, in 1 and 3/4" strips, once I stumbled across your video. the cuddle 3 binding quilt looks so much nicer!!! :) Thank you sew much!
What a wonderful idea to use the cuddle. I am making a baby quilt for my great great nephew coming in July and this will be so nice on his blanket. Can't wait to see your updated sewing room, how fun and exciting!
Cuddle is fantastic on baby quilts and they get so much use and so many washings. It holds up extremely well. Good luck with your great great nephews quilt and thanks for watching.😊❤️🐥
Wonderful binding with Cuddle tutorial. Thank so much. I made myself my first cuddle back quilt for christmas . I love how soft and cuddly it is. It is a Christmas quilt but i t is still in my living room because of how soft it is. Binding in this fabric would be a new challenge for me . Probably would be ver nice for child and baby quilts. Thank you for the video.😊
You are my kind of quilter, don't sweat the small stuff.Make it work somehow and don't tell anybody.I love your videos. I know you are gonna show us your new studio.Keep quilting those memory quilts.I have done so many for my own family losses. I have one more to do. Mine from my identical twin who died Jan 15 2020.I hope soon .Lo❤ to you and your family who allows you to have fun. .
I think the young lady is going to love your quilt Di, the yellow backing just brings out the colour of the top fabric and you gave a good tutorial o how to bind Thank you for sharing this with us 😊xx
This is so very nice. I love the softness that will give the quilt. I wish I had a quilt of my parents clothes. My parents divorced, and we're not in control when they died. My stepfather took everything and my aunt took my father's THINGS. This will be such a comfort. You are so kind to make it special. I am a newer quilter and this seems so out of my wheelhouse. You just keep working in your newer wheelhouse Lizy and before you know it you’ll be tackling all kinds of quilts. Thank you for watching my channel, I appreciate it😊❤️🐥
This was very informative. I have to tell you I love that sunshine on the back of the quilt. My grandpa and my new husband both call me their sunshine. I’m making my husband a quilt. I will have to send it to you to have you quilted so I can have sunshineon it for his birthday. How much lead time do you need? His birthday is December 21.
I did finish my heart quilt. It's so cute. I had not attempted this pattern as it looked complicated but you made it look so easy and it was! Thank you! I posted a picture on your Facebook page. Now how about a Shamrock? Hmmm

Perfect timing and quite useful. I was sitting staring at a quilt with cuddle on the back and wondering if I should try to roll the excess over for binding or trim it and do a fabric binding. I am going to trim it and cut the leftovers to bind it as this video recommends. Wish me luck!
Everyone I tried to roll the back over to the front it got messy out goofed up. This way you have mucho more control. Good luck and thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
I am a beginner quilter. It is my dream to have a quilting business. Could you share how you began your business with the pros and cons ? Also your nails are so pretty. Once again great video.
Love minky!!! I’ve done two quilts with the minky but after I watched this video I did it the hard way. Will definitely do it your way. Thank you so much for sharing how you put the binding on. ❤
I think I understand that the nap of Miny is a lot like corduroy or velvet. What kind of thread do you sew Minky with? I was told that polyester will cut cotton. I know nylon fabric will (over time) cut most cotton threads. I am thinking of trying some Minky on the back of a small quilt (to see if I can quilt Minky on my Singer 301 and Singer 328 K). Those two Singer machines are easy for me to clean by myself. Those old clothes made a beautiful quilt in one of my old school colors.
Yes to that nap. I was sewing with Glide thread. I recall hearing that as a young woman but threads have also evolved. I use Superior Omni thread which is a thin, strong polyester on all of my quilts. The quilts are 100% cotton. I’ve not seen any cutting of fibers on any quilts and I have several with heavy use and lots of washings. Omni appears to be cotton, you could never tell by looking at it. Thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
How hard is it to keep the line straight on the front of the quilt, especially when you are muscling a big quilt under the machine? I am getting ready to piece a backing from 2 two-yard pieces of Luxe Cuddle. I have been procrastinating, both because of the mess and the fear of seaming Cuddle. (I will have to have at least 3 seams to make it large enough for the quilt I made for my hubby.) I learned a technique from Shannon trainer Theresa that should help minimize the mess, so we’ll see. Good luck with your remodel. It is so stressful and the waiting is so hard! Glad you have your longarm area to tide you over! I love your technique videos. 🙂
It depends on how slick the Luxe cuddle is. Your stitching line might show more in luxe so just use a stiletto and pull the threads out of the stitching and you’ll never see the line😱. Thanks for watching!!
Your videos Miss Di are so informative. Yes I decided to flip the cuddle from the back and yes I cut though the fabric. Ugh ugh ugh!!! Love your technique way more. Sounds like you’re on the home stretch 🙏🙏 but I don’t want to curse the remodel. 🫣🫣 oh, and what’s that adorable tote bag with your fuzz remover roller thingy in it??? That is so cute. Hint hint, maybe a new tutorial on it. 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ Bwahaha Love ya…have a marvelous weekend. Hugs to the fam. 🤗🤗
I love the bright yellow cuddle on thar quilt. It just screams (with indoor voice) happiness and warm hugs!! I thank you for showing us how to use cuddle as binding! I want to do that for my sons quilt and I was told it is to hard and does not look good .. boy were they ever WRONG! Thank you sewww much!!
Love this, Di! I will be trying this! Last year I put Cuddle on the back of quilts for two little girls. I copied a technique I saw on MSQC. Jenny was working with the Cuddle lady! It was so easy. Her’s was not a separate binding, but bringing the Cuddle over from the back! Your technique would also allow the use of a different color of binding! I like that idea, too! Thank you!
Oh my goodness! I made a baby quilt and backed it with cuddle. I wanted a cuddle binding, so I cut the normal 2.5" strips, folded them over.....dun dun dun.....DISASTER! I watched your video and had one of those "flat palm sharply applied to the middle of your forehead" moments. Geez - cut your strips at 1.25" - - who'd have thunk it! I’ve done the exact thing as well as wrapping from the back and know your pain and frustration. This looks great and is so easy. Thanks for watching and commenting😊❤️🐥
Loved this video, Di. The quilt turned out wonderful. I just love all your videos/tutorials. Stay strong through the remodel! Have a great weekend. You're the best. ❤😊
That binding and backing looks so cozy comfy! As I watched your video, I'm putting binding on my quilt. Just regular fabric. I'll have to try that method one day. I can't wait to see your finished remodel.
Happened upon this video today. I really enjoyed your content and presentation. I have some minky that I plan to use for backing and now will think about using minky for binding as well. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
My remodel started in november. It was supposed to take 2 months. Finished the middle of May. It was in 2020 during the covid lockdown but the contractors came and went. It was stressful at the time but now its done and i have a beautiful new kitchen. 😊
Love love love love, watching your tutorials ...I too am going to subscribe. Keep them coming. Good luck with your sheet rock project I know you're going to love your new sewing room. Lucky you enjoy❤❤❤

Not any more than cotton thread and batting leaves. I clean my machine out so often anyway that I don’t notice any extra from Cuddle. Thanks for asking😊❤️🐥
I sure wish I had seen this video yesterday! I just finished a quilt with cuddle on the back & did a traditional flanged binding but I could have used cuddle as I’m sure I have enough! Thanks Di! I’ll have to remember this for next time. ❤ Question tho…would it have worked as well if the Minky I used was from JoAnn’s?
Yes, it would have worked. Tracy from The Sewing Channel uses that kind all the time. Just make sure the stretch is going the right way. Thanks for watching!!!
@@sisterchicksquilting thanks Di. Yes I saw the one she made for her granddaughter which made me want to use it too. This is for a friend who is recovering from a stroke & I thought the Minky would be nice & soft. I like the way you did the binding. Tracy wrapped hers over from the back. Just another option!
i love this binding i am going to try it i said i would never use minky again but i will try oh and by the way did you get the ping pin out of the quilt lol
I noticed on the binding seam you didnt line the ends exactly but did one end at an inch the other at half an inch then sewed, which would spread the bulk. The quilting pattern is perfect for that gorgeous happy yellow. Perfect timing for this excellent video, appreciated ty. Our 3 day day paint job took 2 weeks, our 3 day dry wall took 10 days.
It wasn’t intentional, rather a happy mistake because the cuddle slips. I just go with it. I have a feeling my time line might be similar to yours🤣. TFW😊❤️🐥
Yes I’m a batting believer, the threads need a home to lock in and it adds stability. I use a lightweight poly with cuddle, especially in a child’s or baby quilt as they get washed a lot. Thanks for asking and watching my channel Delores😊🐥❤️
I used a Hobbs lightweight poly. I like the feel of the batting even with a Minky/Cuddle backing. It gives the threads a place to lock and a substantial feel to the quilt. And it will wash and dry better in my opinion. Tracy (The Sewing Channel) and I disagree on this point, however, I love her guts still the same. Thanks for asking and watching!!!

@@sisterchicksquilting I agree with you. I loved the puff around the stitching on the top, looks comfy and cozy. I think Tracy does it that way to save money.
Yes, I did. I carry it as an option for my customers who want Cuddle backing on their quilts. I have quite a few quilters who who started using my longarm quilting because quilting we're so good at quilting on Cuddle. Will I be quilting for you in the future Zippy Zippy?
I did get it out. And you should try it.
TFW😊❤️🐥
Love from another Engineer …who’s a tiny 🐥 too.
Hey 👋 Tiny Engineer Chick 🐥. Thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
Do you use cuddle and batting?
Yes I’m a batting believer, the threads need a home to lock in and it adds stability. I use a lightweight poly with cuddle, especially in a child’s or baby quilt as they get washed a lot. Thanks for asking and watching my channel Delores😊🐥❤️

Do you use the same method for corners when using quilting cotton?
No, I fold my corners over and pivot the needle so it’s a seamless corner. Thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
Did you put a sheet inside your quilt?
No, I always use batting, lightweight poly in this case. Batting gives stability & a place for the threads to lock. Thanks for watching. 😊❤️🐥

Love this!! What batting did you use? Ty so much
I'm guessing no batting since the back is minky
I used a Hobbs lightweight poly. I like the feel of the batting even with a Minky/Cuddle backing. It gives the threads a place to lock and a substantial feel to the quilt. And it will wash and dry better in my opinion.
Tracy (The Sewing Channel) and I disagree on this point, however, I love her guts still the same. Thanks for asking and watching!!!

@@sisterchicksquilting I agree with you. I loved the puff around the stitching on the top, looks comfy and cozy. I think Tracy does it that way to save money.
DId you say that you "sell" the Shanon Cuddle material?
Yes, I did. I carry it as an option for my customers who want Cuddle backing on their quilts. I have quite a few quilters who who started using my longarm quilting because quilting we're so good at quilting on Cuddle. Will I be quilting for you in the future Zippy Zippy?
Thanks for watching my channel :) :) !!
