Indiana Missed Field Goal Gives Duke Pinstripe Bowl Win

- Indiana missed a 38-yard field goal in overtime of the Pinstripe Bowl giving Duke its first bowl win since 1961. Indiana kicker Griffin Oakes thought the kick was good, but it was not reviewable, giving the Blue Devils the 44-41 overtime win in the Bronx.

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference in the United States in which its fifteen member universities compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA's) Division I, with its football teams competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the highest levels for athletic competition in US-based collegiate sports. Founded in 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina, by seven universities located in the South Atlantic States, the conference added additional members in late 1953, 1979, 1991, 2004, and 2013. The 2004 and 2013 additions extended the conference's footprint into the Northeast and Midwest. The most recent expansion in 2013 saw the additions of the University of Notre Dame, the University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University. In 2012, the University of Maryland's Board of Regents voted to withdraw from the ACC to join the Big Ten Conference. On November 28, 2012, the ACC's Council of Presidents voted unanimously to invite the University of Louisville as a full member, replacing Maryland.

+thomas buchanan, didn't you hear the announcer? It can't be reviewed if the ball is higher than the posts, for obvious reasons. But, even if reviewed, the decision would have stood. You can see that the ball would have hit an extended post dead center. That's a doink.
If i was the ref i wouldve reviewed the kick even if the rule says we can't do that I honestly believe that kick got in there is another angle that shows it

@@5roductionz14662020, Ohio State never played the full 6 games that were decided pre-season. They backed out of playing Michigan and was 5-0 vs Indiana’s 5-1 or 6-1 (can’t remember), but they played the required number of games. B10 still put OSU in the title game tho

There should be lasers pointing straight up from the goal posts and everything should be reviewable. Cameras should be focused up and down sidelines and goal lines.

Drill a small hole inside the top of the uprights, and put cameras inside them looking directly up. That is the only way to tell from replay if it went over. From our angles it looks good, but it's not definitive

I watched the same video you did, and it didn't look good to me. I stopped the action, and the ball is directly over the top of the post, which would have made it no good. The camera angle is a little deceiving though. The camera angle makes the ball appear farther to our right than it actually is, making it even farther off.

So what about when the ball is over the upright with some of the ball in and some out? Rule doesn't clarify, so it could go either way. The rule just isn't clear.

As a U. Of Maryland alum, I have no love for Duke University. But, I need to be honest to my thoughts on this bowl game, and quite frankly, Indiana just shot themselves in the foot in the last 20 minutes of that game. Someone help me here...was it I.U. wide receiver Cobbs who could not hold on to the pass in the end zone after one of the best "Trick" or creative plays I've seen from an offense in some time? Felt sorry for my mom, who attended Indiana back in the mid 50s. They killed the Terps in regular season play, and I really wanted them to beat Duke. They had it in their hands--literally--but could not finish off.
I'd add on to that by saying IU just shot themselves in the foot all season. Some of their games it seemed like they meant to get the lead and then just let it go. Here are some of their games.
VS Ohio State(#1 at the time) 34-27L
Had the ball at the 9 yard line with a chance to tie the game at 34 and there was a bad snap.
VS Rutgers 55-52L
Led 52-27 with 5:25 left in the 3rd quarter.
VS Iowa(#10 at the time) 35-27L
Was down 21-20 13:22 left in the 4th quarter and they were outs cited 14-7 in that time.
VS Michigan (#15 at the time) 48-41L(2OT)
Led 34-27 with 2:52 in the 4th quarter and Michigan got a touchdown to tie it. Later in the game in 2OT they're down 48-41 and it was 4th down from the two yard line. They didn't convert the touchdown and lost.
And of course against Duke which you mentioned. They led by a touchdown LATE in the 4th quarter and gave it up.
This team would not have been in this bowl game if they just finished off games. Not to mention they started 4-0.
This kick is the same of what happened in Boise State-Nevada in 2010

It looked wide to me and I'm someone who knows refs are crooked and bet on games. If you don't believe me, go check out the ending of Toledo vs. Syracuse where the PAT is clearly wide but crooked ref calls it good then the crooked replay ref also calls it good, then the crooked conference calls it good too! Syracuse won by 3 and the spread was -2.5. Wouldn't have covered if the PAT miss was correctly called.
