Gma Kathy here. Maliya - the Chicken Whisperer! And I loved seeing Maebel on the feather clipping. And then, Marley - you always make me smile! Good work, Papa and Ben - makes me happy to see your teamwork. Excellent video work, Brianne! 🩷

Love how the girls enjoy helping with all the chores. The new barn looks very nice. This grandma would like a railing on the other side too. Enjoy Papa's visit.

When I saw Maliya first crawl in to go after those chickens, I thought, Oh, what great experience! She's going to be a strong tough lady when she grows up to take on the world.

Wow! Nice work. Imagine doing all of that work before we had cordless drills and power tools!

I am sure it is nice having an experienced builder to help complete the barn and other projects around the homestead! Your girls are precious helpers, but their skills don’t quite top papa’s!

It must be so great to have your In Laws around and to be able to help where they can. I bet getting water to the barn will be a great load off your minds for this autumn and winter.
Is the black criss cross strap on your back a back support strap? Does it help?
In my Holt family, my Aunty had a boy and the uncles and my Dad all had girls. Do you have twins in your family Ben? Are your folks still around?
My Nan, Aunt and Uncle moved to Aus before i was born and my sister moved to the Netherlands about 20 years ago now. My half Uncle, the youngest, moved to Redding, CA from the UK a few years back, with their 4 boys and one girl. I used to travel a lot when i was younger on my own mainly. I guess it is a Holt gene! hehe.
We renovated our new house during late pregnancy and have been growing fruit and veg in our garden. It has always been a dream of mine to have chickens but living in London, it isn't allowed in a domestic garden. I have been considering quails but we have had a tough few years with pets and family passing so have been trying to heal, until we are ready again.
I personally feel like grounding yourself, keeps you humble and more accepting to learning new things.
    Anyway, sending best wishes!

Papa is great help! Cherish it! My dad was handy when young , even in his 80s he painted inside the house and he passed 86ish he couldn't do much, now he went to be with the Lord and I don't have him anymore! Blessings 💕🤗💕

Ben I think that you made a very important point for anyone thinking about the process of starting a new Homestead. Your introduction of your Father-in-law. And you are now you are able to do so much because you jumped in and just did it. Glad that you have the extra hands 👏

Great work day! re clipping wings - I thought the idea was to clip the wings on one side of the chicken (not both - so they can't fly balanced/keeps them more grounded).

That's the idea, and we tried it, but they still managed to fly over.

UBC are not UV stable and they go hard and split after a while.

Thanks for the info- is there a better option?

A concrete tank is the safest option for water for human consumption, but for stock plastic rainwater tanks are a good option, but make sure that they are made from UV stable material having a UV rating of 30 plus. Here we frequently bury them. I am in Australia and we are a dry country and we use water tanks a lot once you leave the cities. Oh and I am a poppy and love watching your kids grow up. Keep smiling, big hugs.@@GrowingUpHolt

Does anyone have an update on this family? I just started watching them. They are living out my dream. It’s great to watch.
