Man, that's been a thing *long* before deltarune. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes did that back on the GameCube and that's probably the best example in my opinion.
No break the targets, no trophies, no homerun contest, no proper all star mode, no platforming. Let’s stop pretending ultimate has everything. Content wise smash 4 actually had more modes. Ultimate is the best for characters, stages, and music but smash 4 had more modes by far.
This is the worst Smash for competitive game but the best for a casual experience. This is just the main reason why it is less popular on Twitch. If you forget the competitive aspect this is the best Smash in term of content and many people love this one.
The gameplay might not be as good as 4's but it has 100x more and better singleplayer content so I always preferred brawl over smash 4, it's just more fun when you're playing alone
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Brawl has the BEST sound effects in the series. There's just so much OOMPH to your hits in this title compared to Smash games that came before and after it.
