More correctly you can fertilize when a field changes "state". You can fertilize a fallow field once. You can plow (change state) and add more fertilizer. You can cultivate and add more fertilizer. You can plant (growth stage 1) and fertilize. Wait for a change in growth state (2-4), and fertilize after each state change. If you use oilseed radish, you can fertilize after you plant it, fertilize when it grows, and then fertilize as you cultivate it in. Yeah you can really go over the top with this stuff. When a device does [something] and fertilizes - it fertilizes as the last action. So you can fertilize and if you plant and fertilize the plant action happens first and changes the field state, then the fertilization happens. Same with the slurry/cultivator.
Great tutorial Arthur. I really enjoy these. To expand on what you already talked about, sprayers use mostly herbicides for weeds, insecticides for insects, and fungicides for mushrooms(i mean moulds mostly). I wouldn't irrigate with a sprayer, while theoretically possible, the fuel cost to haul enough water would be prohibitive. Fertilizer comes in four different types, nitrogen which is the solid white pellets, phosphorus which is usually dark grey pellets, potassium or potash which is dark reddish in color, and sulphur which is a whitish yellow. I am only aware of canola needing sulphur, there may be other plants that need it that I do not know about.
The reason RL farmers put stuff like manure on the field way ahead of planting is not "to give it time to soak in", it's because the high levels of nitrogen in the poop will burn the plants. The manure also has other nutrients in it that take time to be released, so a plant that gets a big dose of nitrogen but not much else will grow robust foliage and put less into making flowers and fruit. If you want your corn to make corn and your wheat to make fat grain, you need to give the manure some time so that the phosphorus and potassium come out.
For me even its hard even its took me 1 hour just to know 20% of the game its good for me because this game is like you may dind't love it but if you know the basic of the game you'll love it!, Like when im starting to play flight simulator with X-Plane 11 i dind't love it at first but when i know how to fly the plane and to know the basic at that time im starting to fly over the world! Conclusion: You may hate the game at first but for me its worth it with that price! so keep playing and you'll now everything!
Quick Recap: (Correct me if I’m wrong) AFTER HARVESTING: (plant bottoms still in ground) Fertilize 1 time Plant Oilseed Radish and cultivate Plow Sow Crops In first stage(s) of growing, spray IF SETTINGS ARE SET TO ONE, Spray crop bottoms after harvesting
If you do oilseed radish, that counts as one stage - so if you have "fertilize"set to 1, then you just need oilseed radish - If you have it set on 3, I would do 1 fertilizer type (probably solid or Manure, or Slurry), then plant oilseed, The again after your crop grows 1 stage (spray). That is closer to how they would do it in real life.
Grass (and this works only with 'seeded' grass and no other crops) can be weeded at any stage (once the plants are sprout) - so no need to fertilize at all for all grass related things. Just weed it once after mowing an once again next growth state or before mowing. ;) And for the sake of the video - you could have set the growth to off and forward time until daylight rises. ;) Nevertheless good guide! thumbs up.
Hello Arthur, just subbed, was looking for some guidance on farming and found your channel. Good stuff. Could you please put all your tutorials in a playlist on your channel? Would make things a bit easier. Thank you!
Here you go - sorry it took so long - Had to wait to get home from the airshow to give this to you. ua-cam.com/play/PLHOIp7_VO931Nk9z7Ez3Jf0_FbCOyHKSN.html
I don’t know anything really about farming. I have my own garden and I know common things. But, I want this game. It looks really really fun. I am worried I could miss a step in a process or not know what type of machinery to purchase.
There is a LOT to the game - but no worries, you can always learn as you go, and as a hint, always save your game before buying equipment, so you can go back if you buy the wrong thing.
Quick question: The bigger spreaders show those HP numbers. Is that a recommendation or does the tractor actually need 240 HP to activate the Veenhus Premium Integral II?
Hey Arthur Chapman, Could I ask a question? I've been fertilizing successfully after each corn harvest using a plow, then seeding/fertilizing a crop of oil radish to get back to Fert Level 1, plowing the radishes under to get to Level 2, then seeding/fertilizing a crop of corn to get back to Level 3. Now my question: Why do I have huge red squares in my field that are unwilling to accept any changes to their fertilization status? I even tried using a weeder after the corn started growing!
You can turn plowing off in the menu, but you will have to go to field with a harvester and tipper to harvest it - you could use "courseplay" if you are on PC and set up harvest routes so that the workers deliver it automatically.
you can get worker to grab manure from pig and cow and get worker to grab slurry from pig and cow works awesome you just have to put a little in spreader to get machine to hire worker
I would suggest you watch the video. If you are playing on easy, then you only need one fert level. If you play on any other level settings you will need at least 3 different fertilzers. The video shows you how to do that.
I feel like if the game offers an opportunity to steal straw from the field, then it's probably going to waste if you are not doing it. I mean, I probably don't care about animal slurry as long as biogas digestate exists
Yes - You will get used to doing the stages - also, don't forget that you can turn the easiness up and just make it one layer of fertilization if you want it to be simpler. Then you can just get a sprayer and spray on fert. Hope that helps!

That is excellent info!
lol you just said what he did but explained it in detail and said hes wrong
I had no idea this gane would be so difficult. There is a lot to absorb!
Shed Keeper ikr I'm having a problem on making manure
I really appreciate 1. The no DLC, no Mods 2. Realistic play I love you Arthur CHapman
My pleasure. I try to make videos that work for everyone.

Thanks it really helped cuz i dident know that weeding and pdysy rhadis was fertilizeing so thank you : ]
Glad I could help!
Quick Recap:
(Correct me if I’m wrong)
AFTER HARVESTING:
(plant bottoms still in ground)
Fertilize 1 time
Plant Oilseed Radish and cultivate
Plow
Sow Crops
In first stage(s) of growing, spray
IF SETTINGS ARE SET TO ONE,
Spray crop bottoms after harvesting
If you do oilseed radish, that counts as one stage - so if you have "fertilize"set to 1, then you just need oilseed radish - If you have it set on 3, I would do 1 fertilizer type (probably solid or Manure, or Slurry), then plant oilseed, The again after your crop grows 1 stage (spray). That is closer to how they would do it in real life.
So spray with oilseed tops still in ground, or after cultivating oilseed radish?
So can you plow, fertilize, cultivate, fertilize, sow, fertilize in that order?
Or am I completely wrong?
Yup - that order works just fine.
@@Vbluguitar Thanks!

Yeah - I think I put a text up over that part saying you can weed at any time.
Thank u Arthor for this tutorial as most of the time it said helper completed task and just tested it now and it works thanks it's helped me a lot
Glad to hear it Mathew!

Castile hi and welcome. This is already part of an fs17 tutorial playlist. Let me get the link for ya

Can you make a video about combine harvesters on farming simulator 17 and 19 please,Arthur?
That is a good idea - I will.
Oilseed radish is a legume and it “fixes” atmospheric nitrogen.
I don’t know anything really about farming. I have my own garden and I know common things. But, I want this game. It looks really really fun. I am worried I could miss a step in a process or not know what type of machinery to purchase.

This was really helpful!
Quick question: The bigger spreaders show those HP numbers. Is that a recommendation or does the tractor actually need 240 HP to activate the Veenhus Premium Integral II?
I believe its recommended, though I do know that some combos won't work and you will get a message saying "not enough HP"
I think you can weed grass any time (except when it's just been planted and only dirt with seed in).
yes - I put a text over the video explaining my faux pas lol
I'm liking the look of "you need to weed" in FS19.

the red status means you need to plow, so I am wondering if you are using a cultivator and not a plow. You only need to plow once every 3 crops.
@@Vbluguitar You are brilliant!!!!!!!! Thank you!
Can you make a video about Combine harvesters 0n farming simulator 17 and 19
I will!
can someone just go like
stage 1 =
stage 2 =
stage 3 =
great explanation! but i kinda forgot
You can't really because there are so many different ways to do it.
Is there a setting for automatic plowing or harvesting without having to physically go to the field ?
You can turn plowing off in the menu, but you will have to go to field with a harvester and tipper to harvest it - you could use "courseplay" if you are on PC and set up harvest routes so that the workers deliver it automatically.
Which key is for fill the cistern, please?
Usually its the "r" key OR click the left joystick
@@Vbluguitar I tried type "R" in a place near the slurry tank, but it doesn´t work. It wrote something like "you must fill equipment first".
Whoever still plays fs17 is a legend
I still play it on my switch!
@@Vbluguitar I play it a lot too, 11 hours on my first save game with barley any progress. the game is still very fun though
@@Vbluguitar also, you're a legend for making these guides.
the side on the manure spreader will come down to aid in filling
Did not know that - won't that make it hold less?
you can get worker to grab manure from pig and cow and get worker to grab slurry from pig and cow works awesome you just have to put a little in spreader to get machine to hire worker
does not cost any more cause worker is grabbing from what you have
Oh yeah - forgot about that feature.
Do I need to fertilise? I think my seeder has fertilizer onboard?.
I would suggest you watch the video. If you are playing on easy, then you only need one fert level. If you play on any other level settings you will need at least 3 different fertilzers. The video shows you how to do that.
Dont you get fertilization when you plow also?
Not unless you plow under a growing crop.
I feel like if the game offers an opportunity to steal straw from the field, then it's probably going to waste if you are not doing it.
I mean, I probably don't care about animal slurry as long as biogas digestate exists
I feel overwhelmed with info, does it become normal after some time tho?
Yes - You will get used to doing the stages - also, don't forget that you can turn the easiness up and just make it one layer of fertilization if you want it to be simpler. Then you can just get a sprayer and spray on fert. Hope that helps!
