Unbelievably, I was the Producer on this game when I worked for the Learning Company back in the day. I designed the entire thing, from beginning to end. I came up with the names Disasteroid, Sun Drop and Star bucks. I named Queen Astral and wrote the entire beginning story. Thank you so much for this runthrough -- running through it again made me cry! I only wish they allowed people to make games like this that emphasized education over assets.

Seriously? What have you been up to since then? I loved this game!

Also, I have worked on educational games within the past 5 years as well. It's really difficult to get anything done anymore creatively. The funding all comes from big wealthy government or medical companies and there's too many stakeholders trying to make the game very specifically accessible by literally anyone. It also has to have analytics in it and be super cut and dry. People want 'realistic' and photos of real kids for them to relate to. Good luck creating original characters or text for stories or making the game not easy enough for "all kids". Again, loved this game, and if you really worked on it, go you. Any other games you work on?

@@starogre Yeah... that was me! This was the last in the Treasure Series and I was tasked with finding additional "Math" subjects that weren't covered in Treasure Mountain, Cove and MathStorm (on which I was the Associate Producer). I tossed Temperature as a subject because, obviously, it didn't work well with a computer environment. At the Learning Company, I also made Reader Rabbit: Ready for Letters. Here's a silly tidbit -- Shortly before I left TLC, I was doing all the upfront work for a new series that eventually was known as the Cluefinders Adventures. The last thing I did was do some character testing -- the artists on my team designed girls and boys from different ethnicities (Asian, Hispanic, Black, etc). As a joke, they designed a character that looked like an old picture of me I kept on my desk -- white, red-haired girl with braids and glasses. The company didn't know that was a joke and they tested it, it scored really high and THEY USED IT! So, if you look at the cover of most of the Cluefinders, you'll see my younger self!! I've not really been able to design any educational software after that. That's the most disappointing thing about all this. I'm glad to see you have the itch -- good luck!

This game was fantastic! I have extremely fond memories of it, and I played it all the time when I was about 5-10 or so. I feel like it helped me a ton with math in ways I'm sure I can't even remember at this point. I still love the art style to this day, it's perfectly eye-catching and fun for kids. Thank you so much for such a great educational game!
By the way, did you have anything to do with Treasure Cove? Because I loved that game too!

@@CoolRobbit No. I wasn't the Producer on Treasure Cove. It was released while I was working on Treasure Mathstorm, the 3rd game in the series. After that, I produced Treasure Galaxy. It's so satisfying to hear that you enjoyed it so much. One of the most profound moments of my professional life was watching a bunch of 5-9 year olds play my game and tell me how they made it theirs. It could have been you! I modeled the outer space art style on the Jetsons cartoon series (that's why I code named the project "Astro") We were limited at that time by disk space (it was before CDs!), so the art had to be creatively designed. Let me know if you'd like to hear more -- otherwise, I really appreciate your comment! Take care...

Time flew by way too fast. Even though I am an adult now, I still remember playing these games with my siblings when we were kids. They really helped give us like a edge when we were in school. The learning company made lots of amazing educational computer games.

Hey Trevor! I was the producer/ designer on Treasure Galaxy (I posted some other comments here as well). I totally agree with you! I designed the Shape Shack to be a Tangram puzzle! I was addicted to them when I was a kid and I felt they would be a great introduction to Geometry for younger kids.

I remember playing this game at school when I was around 6 years old and thinking to myself, "hey they named that after the coffee place?" whenever I saw that "Star Bucks" title. This was back around 1998 and I'm from Seattle. I also remember "Treasure Mountain!" I'll be turning 25 soon... damn, time flies... thanks for the memories.

Yeah that makes sense 'cuz that's where Starbucks came from. Seattle, WA. Mostly 'cuz it rains A LOT there and most people there get depressed and/or sleepy from constant rainy days and so they got Starbucks to help out with coffee and such. ^^

It's so funny coming back to this game after all these years! For one, I'm surprised to find that others remember it, and for two, I noticed quite a few similarities between this game and Super Mario Galaxy! Queen Astral - Rosalina (Princess), the Sun Drops - Luma, Master of Mischief - Bowser, the Crystal Palace - Rosalina's Spaceship. Not everything's a perfect one to one, but it's just something I found amusing!

You know, the Code Satellites part of this game can also teach spelling, because one can figure out the code by guessing the word by guessing all 26 letters until they get the right one space by space. In the beginning levels, one may not need to zap a sundrop to get the code-just guess the word in the Code Satellites by guessing all 26 letters until they get the right one space by space, then at later levels zap the sundrop first, then obtain the rest of the code by guessing the letters to the words in the Code Satellites by guessing all 26 letters until they get the right one space by space.

That may be true, but, as the one who created this, I can tell you that kids 5 - 9 don't generally have that kind of patience! And besides, capturing the Sundrops is fun!
