  • So often people ask "when" and "how" do I cock my wrists in the backswing; in this video I show you how to use your wrists in the backswing. Golf are always looking for more consistency, better ball striking and lower their scores. Owning your backswing is the key to owning consistency.
    Longer drives and hitting more fairways will soon come to you when you understand how the levers in a golf swing work, and where the energy is derived from.
    I hope you enjoy!

    Hi Stuart. Ok, it’s only taken me 60 years but I’ve now realised how and why to cock the wrists on the backswing!
    If you just swing back like a pendulum and let the wrists cock naturally, as you start the forward swing, gravity will drop the club head below the plane and then you will have to manipulate it with your wrists to return it back on plane.
    If you apply an upward pick up of the club head on the back swing, this will offset the drop due to gravity in the transition and keep the club head on the right plane.
    BUT - if you just pick it up with your hands you will shrink your club arc - and probably separate your elbows.
    By pushing down on the handle to achieve this club head pick up, you maintain arc and keep a close arm position.
    I’ve worked this all out by watching this video together with your broom and band videos.
    Absolute genius for you to explain it so simply.
    To test, I just get a pitching wedge, do a short swing. After a foot or so, just push down slightly on the handle a bit to raise the club head very slightly to exactly offset the amount the club head naturally drops down due to gravity when you start the forward swing. It just returns the club head to the exact alignment at setup. And because you’re pushing, you keep your arc and the hands stay naturally inside.

    Great information again stuart and you actually performed what you were talking about for us (nice and slowly,which is refreshing) in a very clear and understandable way.I dont know how many times i have watched golf instruction in the past and then felt,what the hell it taught me,total head scratcher moments when i think back on them,nothing really sticks.But this with you works for me anyway, thx again stuart all the best butty.Pete from wales.

    Always amazed at insights making me wonder about years of “instruction “- you mention you are perhaps 6’2 and often show wider stance for most shots… as I perceive it. Is that part of your advice, wider base, or more a reflection of height and build?

    • @GoodGolfCoaching
      @GoodGolfCoaching  6 місяців тому +1

      Width of base is important, keeping it simple at “outside”’of shoulder width will be perfectly acceptable for 90% of shots Jack. Best wishes Stu 😊

    Great explanation. I find that my arms will collapse against my chest if I fail to have enough right leg extension, hip rotation and chest rotation in the back swing. A form of the arms reacting to lack of body flexibility and motion. A question for you. Training clubs with flexible shafts like the GForce and the Lag Shot preach that they train good timing. It seems to me that they help the golfer feel the weight of the club head due to the whip in the shaft which you talk about in many of your videos. Could you do a video assessment of these training tools. Do they help the golfer feel the weight of the head?

      Thanks so much for the fabulous insights of your golf, and hopefully my video was able to help understand why your feels have been helping you. I will for sure, do a review of the bendy shaft training aids, no issue at all! Thank you for the request! Best wishes Stu

    Thanks Stu, as always ‘that’s good coaching’. I think it is very easy to get lost with the golf swing, but what you have just demonstrated appears to simplify what is required of the arms and wrists in the back swing. My question is, is that it ?! What about wrist cock, ulnar deviation and all the other terms that we hear. I’ve invested, money and effort into my golf game this year and really haven’t gone anywhere. In some ways I have gone backwards and I am always keen to find videos that simplifies the fundamentals of maintaining a good golf swing. ⛳️

      It makes me wince when I hear such terminology in the golf swing; coaches with big words but very little understanding on how to articulate the message and the various pitfalls of using this language. Dutch it all Mark, make sure you understand your grip and what it will produce. As far as arm action, this is all you need my friend. Best wishes Stu 😊

    I have worked on adapting your left hand grip and it seems to be working well except getting my right hand on the grip seems to be problematic.
    Should the pad of the right hand be on top of the grip the same as the pad on the left ? How much pressure should the right hand exert on the grip and from what point?
    The side or the top?
    Just trying to get the grip feeling connected

      The right hand palm should face the floor; I’ve done any number of videos on this my friend. Start at the grip series and you’ll get a lot of keys there. 😊 best wishes Stu

    Hi Stuart, in the takeaway and backswing do the shoulders work on the correct plane automatically when we are feeling the theraband pressures and moving into and turning off the right hip correctly?

    • @GoodGolfCoaching
      @GoodGolfCoaching  4 місяці тому +1

      Hey Brian - Nothing ever happens naturally, everything has a reaction to something. Good posture, good grip, good hip rotation, with pressure on the handle and the right pressures on the grip with forearm rotation, the shoulders will stand more of a chance to behave. Yes 😊

      @@GoodGolfCoaching great thanks, I'll see how it goes because I've found that I've had an issue with the left shoulder not lowering properly early enough and then it feels too late. It also means I don't get the right hip deep enough to really load. The broom should help because anything heavy or a big medicine ball and I really notice the left shoulder moving down properly.
