  • The General Motors plant in Oshawa, On has a rich history of building vehicles that goes back over 100 years. Today, this is the only GM plant that builds both Silverado light duty and Silverado Heavy Duty on the exact same production line.
Watching new Silverados come together was interesting and of course we want to hear from you. Let us know your thoughts on Chevy Silverado production in the comments below.

Thanks for the tour, Steve and Howard. I toured the Oshawa car plant in ‘88 when they were building Buicks. Fewer robots at that time, of course. The “test” at the end of the line then was a room about 100 feet long, where the worker would goose the car, then slam on the brakes. Good to see GM still building in Oshawa.

Really enjoyed this tour. I took delivery last week on my 3500 srw and it was made in Oshawa. I ordered it back on September 4 and was afraid that the strike would delay it. Thank goodness Oshawa settled their strike faster than UAW America did. Love my new truck and your tour. Thanks.

Truck Kings, This is the video I have been waiting to see. I am thrilled the Lazarus factory up and running again. GM got the very pointed message and Canadians are building pickups again!!
I would like to see Ford and Chrysler/Stellantis get back to building trucks in Canada as they both did in the past. I would also like to take this opportunity to inform Toyota that Canadians could build Tacomas just as well as Mexicans! Canada is one of the world's biggest pickup markets, we ought to be building at least as many as we buy. Now we need production of pickups with 8 foot beds within our borders! 😁 🤩

It's been a while since I read the McLaughlin story, but he was very skilled at building axes. It was a good story about the history of GM Canada. The Canadian Military Pattern trucks were a surprise to me as it was GM and Ford Canada that built trucks to a British military specification.

I used to be a trucker and often though that that Oshawa was doomed because it was on the wrong side of Toronto, most of the parts would have to be delivered through Toronto and deal with all the delays on the 401 and then the same thing with the finished vehicles heading for the states.

It's awesome to see where the Silverado 3500HD I ordered on May 15th, 2023 was built. Now if they could actually ship it in a reasonable amount of time to my dealer that would great but it was completed on July 28th and has a shipping date of August-December. If I have to wait much longer, someone else will have to buy it. I told the dealer when I ordered it I needed it by September 15th because we head South for the winter and I would need time to put some miles on it before towing our 5th Wheel. They assured me I would have it before then. Now It's not looking very promising!

Oshawa isn't the only plant marrying truck bodies to frame with Fanuc robots. Flint, MI assembly has been doing it for years.

Don't know about now however Oshawa was constantly voted highest quality plant in Gm by JD Powers . It came as a shock when it closed down (for2 years) mostly to get rid of pension and health benefits that were paid for life

I've got GM truck examples from Mexico, Kentucky and Canada. The Kentucky built truck is built better e.g. body fitment, fewer electrical issues, no mechanical issues... But the Canuck is a close second.

Love the built-in rust features that if your from the North your truck just falls apart. Are they still doing that.🤔
