It bothers me everytime I hear it. My choral group is planning to sing another arrangement and we tend to master it with accuracy from accent down to pronunciation. Thanks
This is a fantastic rendition of this song. I personally spent 2 years in Kenya and Tanzanian and speak this language (Swahili) fluently. Not only is this very musically pleasing, but it legitimately sounds Africanized. Also your pronunciation is stellar. well done!
Absolutely incredible voices. I am a 19 year old full time college student athlete suffering from chronic cardiovascular issues, I am unsure of when I may be on life support. It’s harder to keep up or when you’re trying to read the lyrics! XD I have to slow down to try to pronounce the longer words right and then just like that, they’re onto the next verse before I can sound out the word.
@@932ForeverLove Slow it to .5 speed, or .75 speed as needed, and read the lyrics as you listen! Really helped me over the past week as I worked on memorizing it off and on, and now I have about 90 percent of it down!
*So gorgeous, just phenomenal. Peter Hollens and Malukah finally singing together and its BABA YETU!!* Just could not be more epic. Improve your day, listen to this!!
Malukha always look like the kind of person you'd like to invite over for tea and a nice mellow conversation. And then maybe persuade her into singing.
My two year old stands totally still and listen. Suddenly she turns around and say wow, wow, beautiful. 🥰 And then she dances. I think that's a big yes to this song
Both my wifes's church choir (Wesley-Knox United Church, London, Ontario) and concert choir (the Karen Schuessler Singers) have sung this many times with a tenor chorister that has the Swahili down pat. It never fails to move people. The most surprising time I ever heard it was at the fountains beneath the world's tallest manmade structure, the Burj Khalifa in Dubia. I always wonder if the mostly Muslim audience was aware of what it was. Whatever, this rendition is amazing. I expect it took many takes to create the effect of a large choir. So wonderful. Kudos to all. H
My entire school choir sang this last year for my senior year. It has such and impact when the entire stage is full of people, singers lining the aisles and all of us singing. Its something that you don't get other than live, even though this is a close second.
And all this time when playing Civilization IV I have been listening to our Father being praised and I had no idea! Praise God and his son our Lord Jesus Christ!
I discovered this version of Baba Yetu about 2 weeks ago, and since then I've been listening to it on repeat every day!!! I absolutely love it, you guys are amazing. Malukah's smile when she sings is just so heartwarming and calms me down :) Thank you
The sad part is....i have now watchend over 100 versions of Baba Yetu - no joke - performed by choirs all around the world. And this is the goddamn only version that - doesnt sound like crap - has no problem with the audio recording - doesnt feature audience applauding or screaming midst performance - only features "typical" instruments like no piano, no e guitar etc. - features 2 genders singing I tried to find a version with a choir but it seems you 2 did the best version that exists on this planet. And this was the version i started with...could have told me that i wont find any better.
+Orkar Isber (Estar) If you can get the original done by Christopher Tin in a lossless format (like I do) and have good speakers, then THAT also sounds heavenly. Speaking of which...
This song has just reduced me to tears. If there will ever be the need of a hymn for an united earth - this will be my proposal. The fact of this being our LORDs prayer does make my argument more valid.
I first learned this song 40 years ago when I worked in Tanzania. This is a very refreshing rendition. I just discovered your music and it brings joy to my heart. Endelea vizuri!
Malukah consistently amazes me with her ability to sing in other languages. A native Spanish speaker who can sing in Spanish, English, Swahili, and even DOVAH from Skyrim.
Baba Yetu! Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cones ever composed. A melody that fills us with the best feelings. Music to be appreciated, heard and felt! This version is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. The pitch of the voices is beautiful! The arrangement is wonderful! The tone of the voices is pleasing to the ears and it moves like our interior. If all the voices were arranged and sung only by these two singers, they are to be congratulated! A wonderful work, but before being only a work is a gift to the noblest human senses. Thank you for having recorded such a beautiful song so that the song's message reaches the goal for which it was intended. A song, a good feeling, a lenitive, a prayer. Congratulations !!! Beautiful!!! /////////////////// Baba Yetu! Coupla things: 1) I love that you do projects and songs that YOU LOVE. Three and a half years later, and this beautiful song still sends my heart soaring through time. The way you both sing, so smooth and fluid, even in a strange language, gets the feeling across perfectly. You two truly are talents for the age.
Since I first heard this lovely song I have woken up every morning with it playing in my head. I now have an ear worm song LOL but what an amazing song! Much love to Peter and Malukah.
I got a story for you all: Back when I was in high school, during junior year as I recall, the school band was holding its annual concert in a few months. The music had no real theme, but one was Baba Yetu. As usual, they needed the official go ahead to make sure that they didn't suffer from copyright infringement. (It happened while I was in middle school, so I don't know the details.) So they called up Christopher Tin directly (don't know how) and he said that we could only do the song if HE conducted the song. The school agreed and we got to see him LIVE! I only watch the concert, but my friend, who was in the band at the time says that he's an awesome and nice guy.
Huge props for this... not just your musical ability, but you nailed the crescendo at around the 2 minute mark and when the song went back to the main chorus you kept that intensity going and kept my attention through the end of the song. That's true musical talent on top of the technical talent.
Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our, our Father who are) Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina (In heaven, our, our, amen) Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our, our Father, who are) Jina lako litukuzwe (Let's glorify your name) Baba yetu, yetu uliye (Our, our Father who are) Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina (In heaven, our, our, amen) Baba yetu, yetu, uliye (Our, our Father, who are) Jina lako litukuzwe (Let's glorify your name) Utupe leo chakula chetu (Give us today our food) Tunachohitaji utusamehe (We need you to forgive us) Makosa yetu, hey (Our errors, hey) Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe (As we do forgive those) Waliotukosea, usitutie (Who did us wrong, don't put us) Katika majaribu, lakini (Into trials, but) Utuokoe, na yule, milele na milele (Save us, with him, for ever and ever)

Can't stop listening to that song - it runs again and again. Amazing Peter and Malukah - it is so beautiful! Please continue on working together - the results are simply stunning!
Awesome song! Love this style - with the harmonies and African-style beats. To me it sounds like a song from a soundtrack, something that would make the audience really feel emotion and power!
***** When I first listened to the song it did not have "Civilization 1V Theme", only "Baba Yetu", so likewise I did not know it to be from a soundtrack. I was just making a point that soundtrack music for me feels powerful and full of emotion, and this performance did just that.
Here are the lyrics of the song in both English and Swahili. In case you're interested. Swahili English Baba yetu, yetu uliye Our Father, who art Mbinguni yetu, yetu amina! in Heaven. Amen! Baba yetu yetu uliye Our Father, M jina lako e litukuzwe. Hallowed be thy name. Utupe leo chakula chetu Give us this day our daily bread, Tunachohitaji, utusamehe Forgive us of Makosa yetu, hey! our trespasses, Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe As we forgive others Waliotukosea usitutie Who trespass against us Katika majaribu, lakini Lead us not into temptation, but Utuokoe, na yule, muovu e milele! deliver us from the evil one forever. Please please Peter, never take this song down. This is absolutely fabulous version of Baba Yetu that brings so much joy to people around the world.
Why would he take it down?
You should probably obtain local copies for offline enjoyment as well.
You have to appreciate the effort this must have taken. Two people sung a song made for a choir and its in a language neither are native to.
the pronunciation is even top notch - though they are both in a choir known for interpreting African hymns if I recall correctly
I don't think anyone who watches and knows the story behind the song actually questions the abilitiy of the two singers at hand.
Spot on...

Spiffleh Yes, but in civ 4, just about anyone could be an angry rampaging warlord, but Monty did it the most often. Shaka and Genghis came close.
Our church used this song as part of our World Communion Sunday worship this year. We set it to a video of prayer and meditation around the world. More than one person came to me and said the singing moved them to tears and the images didn't help anything either. So, thank you!
I use the song when I'm revisiting Civ IV and playing a warmongering nuke-wielding Ghandi
I can't believe that this is the Lord's Prayer in swahili. It's so angelical and peaceful...
By far the best non English version of the Lord's Prayer I have ever heard. Swahili is such a rich language.
Today I learned I am no joke doing this for my choir. After over 4 years, I knew I had to come back. Thank you for being a prophet, Peter Hollens.
Sent this to my Mom. I know she'll love it as she loves the Lord.

The funny thing is, in German you can read this as if it were German and it would almost sound the same :D
It is wonderful !
Asante sana for posting the words!
Robin Pierce Thank you thank you thank you!!!
The song is beautiful, the voices are beautiful, the editing is beautiful. Masterpiece.
Wow! That's our father who art in heaven prayer in swahili. Who is wstching with me now 2024
Seriously? My 2 favourite youtube artists doing a collaboration? Thank you! Please do more...
DracoSalieri Any time :)
Malukha always look like the kind of person you'd like to invite over for tea and a nice mellow conversation.
And then maybe persuade her into singing.
I remember singing this song with a choir. I loved it. I always felt so happy and calmed singing it. I am very happy you covered it.
Me too!!
Swadakta Peter. Wimbo ni mtamu mno. Jina lake Baba yetu litukuzwe milele amina.
When you guys started singing i almost burst in tears
I have no idea why
-how introvert are you?
=We made an entire choir just the two of us.
A lot of Peter's stuff is done solo, sometimes with nearly as many voices.
Still 2 people.
Peter's Swahili is better than for most of us Kenyans..mad love 🇰🇪🇰🇪 the Lord's prayer has never sounded so perfect😍😍
I have the biggest Civ fan smile on my face right now.
On a side note, Malu totally just turned Swahili into the sexiest language ever.
Same
vote baba yetu for world national anthem!
LeDeadlySniper I love her voice; I just wish she put more emotion into her singing.
I didn't knew goats could youtube.... or play civ.....

Großartig absolut perfekt. So etwas zu zweit aufzustellen Unglaublich !! Ich danke euch! Und Gott segne euch !!!!!
This was so beautiful that I drooled a bit while listening to this
+Kazuto Kirigaya Now I understand why people call people like you weeaboos
+xShinobiii that makes absolutely no sense
Andrew Bondarenko You might wanna see a doctor if you are really that stupid to not get that
Weebo is a reference to those obsessed with Japanese culture, this is sung in Swahili. Your term doesn't match up.
Andrew Bondarenko ok
And all this time when playing Civilization IV I have been listening to our Father being praised and I had no idea! Praise God and his son our Lord Jesus Christ!
You can enjoy this song even if you are an atheist and don't understand the lyrics. Glory to mankind!
Big civ fan never had any idea this was a worship song.
which god to be exact? lol
@@Najlui The Christian God obviously
I discovered this version of Baba Yetu about 2 weeks ago, and since then I've been listening to it on repeat every day!!! I absolutely love it, you guys are amazing. Malukah's smile when she sings is just so heartwarming and calms me down :) Thank you
Thanks so much for this version, I listen to it so often to find my heart-space.
Wow... just, wow... This has to be the most beautiful version of the Lord's Prayer I've ever heard!
mandakay42 Thank you!
The sad part is....i have now watchend over 100 versions of Baba Yetu - no joke - performed by choirs all around the world. And this is the goddamn only version that
- doesnt sound like crap
- has no problem with the audio recording
- doesnt feature audience applauding or screaming midst performance
- only features "typical" instruments like no piano, no e guitar etc.
- features 2 genders singing
I tried to find a version with a choir but it seems you 2 did the best version that exists on this planet. And this was the version i started with...could have told me that i wont find any better.
I had the same experience. heard it here first and went looking for other versions. Should not have bothered. Hard to improve on perfection!
+Orkar Isber (Estar) If you can get the original done by Christopher Tin in a lossless format (like I do) and have good speakers, then THAT also sounds heavenly. Speaking of which...
+Orkar Isber (Estar) Christopher Tins original version with the Civ 4 music video.
jajjajjajaja
I love this song and I so agree with what u say
"Our Father. Who art in Heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done. On earth, as it is in heaven."~Baba Yetu (Swahili)
Amen!
Jesus loves us!
@@stefanieproll104 Jesus loves us, indeed! The Father of all loves all his children. Thank God somebody does!
This song has just reduced me to tears.
If there will ever be the need of a hymn for an united earth - this will be my proposal.
The fact of this being our LORDs prayer does make my argument more valid.
i literally cried because it was that good, im going to play Civ4 again
Civ4 is the best Civ game
wellllllllllllllllll that is arguable with civ 5
no play civ V
no play CIV VI next week
no wait 5 years and play CIV VII
i love this version... your Swahili sounds natural and fluent (Swahili is my first language so i would know)
good job!
Such a beautiful uplifting song, it always makes my day a little brighter.
Asante Sana ..kazi zuri love from Kenya
3 years later I am compelled to listen to this every time I run across it. What a wonderful rendition of a spiritually edifying piece.
I first learned this song 40 years ago when I worked in Tanzania. This is a very refreshing rendition. I just discovered your music and it brings joy to my heart. Endelea vizuri!
So beautiful, gave me goosebumbs!
Keep up the amazing work :) Greetings from Germany!
Thank you!

Peter´s songs bring joy to everyone. I love this song... Thank you Peter :-)
This is one of my favorite Civilization songs! I love listening to it...It's so beautiful in music and words.
Lindo!!!
this makes me happy. new civ comes out in 1 hour! BABA YEEEEEETUUUUU!!!!
Wow God is great
I wish i study in east africa to learn
Kswahili but no problem one day in heaven we will sing in all language
Coupla things: 1) I love that you do projects and songs that YOU LOVE. So many UA-camrs have limited themselves to covering certain genres of music (i.e. only pop) but you've proven that out of the box means out of this world! 2) I am impressed that you went the extra mile at the end of this vid to include Malukah and Christopher Tin. Classy respect is what brings awesome people together so I have no doubt that you'll continue to draw awesome peoples to collab with you.3) I'm proud to be a part of your fan family and I look forward to proving it through Patreon as soon as my job starts rolling. :) :) #stayclassy #stayyourself #rockon #pureawesomeness
Thank you so much on all accounts!
Three and a half years later, and this beautiful song still sends my heart soaring through time. The way you both sing, so smooth and fluid, even in a strange language, gets the feeling across perfectly. You two truly are talents for the age.
This never gets old. Still blows my mind how you 2 sound like a full blown choir. Thank you.
I shared this with my Swahili friends in Kenya--they were amazed at their language being sung in such a beautiful way! Absolutely beautiful!!
Since I first heard this lovely song I have woken up every morning with it playing in my head. I now have an ear worm song LOL but what an amazing song! Much love to Peter and Malukah.
I love my swahili language now more than ever. THANKYOU.
Peter and Malukah...
FINALLY MY POWER IS COMPLETE AND I CAN WILL THINGS INTO EXISTENCE!
Now where's my 10000 billion dollars.
Today is here. Rejoice for it is a magnificent achievement! You can cherish every new day.
I got a story for you all: Back when I was in high school, during junior year as I recall, the school band was holding its annual concert in a few months. The music had no real theme, but one was Baba Yetu. As usual, they needed the official go ahead to make sure that they didn't suffer from copyright infringement. (It happened while I was in middle school, so I don't know the details.)
So they called up Christopher Tin directly (don't know how) and he said that we could only do the song if HE conducted the song. The school agreed and we got to see him LIVE! I only watch the concert, but my friend, who was in the band at the time says that he's an awesome and nice guy.
That is AWESOME! Good for your friend to be part of that experience and I hope you enjoyed seeing Chris lead the band in your school! :D
No way you did this song!!! I'm doing this for choir!!! I got all the solos
Wow, congrats! You must have an amazing voice to get all the solos. I hope you have fun and enjoy singing it. 😊
Huge props for this... not just your musical ability, but you nailed the crescendo at around the 2 minute mark and when the song went back to the main chorus you kept that intensity going and kept my attention through the end of the song. That's true musical talent on top of the technical talent.
Nah its a cover.

Awesome song! Love this style - with the harmonies and African-style beats. To me it sounds like a song from a soundtrack, something that would make the audience really feel emotion and power!
it's the opening/main theme for civilation 4 ... a videogame^^
It helps to read the title LOL
***** When I first listened to the song it did not have "Civilization 1V Theme", only "Baba Yetu", so likewise I did not know it to be from a soundtrack. I was just making a point that soundtrack music for me feels powerful and full of emotion, and this performance did just that.
Here are the lyrics of the song in both English and Swahili. In case you're interested.
Swahili English
Baba yetu, yetu uliye Our Father, who art
Mbinguni yetu, yetu amina! in Heaven. Amen!
Baba yetu yetu uliye Our Father,
M jina lako e litukuzwe. Hallowed be thy name.
Utupe leo chakula chetu Give us this day our daily bread,
Tunachohitaji, utusamehe Forgive us of
Makosa yetu, hey! our trespasses,
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe As we forgive others
Waliotukosea usitutie Who trespass against us
Katika majaribu, lakini Lead us not into temptation, but
Utuokoe, na yule, muovu e milele! deliver us from the evil one forever.
Ufalme wako ufike utakalo Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
Lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni. On Earth as it is in Heaven.
(Amina) (Amen)
this is undoubtedly a beautiful song and very well preformed. but another way to appreciate it is to watch UA-cam try and decipher swahili
it gives up about halfway through
i just did that wow it's the best
Great. Now when I sing it I'll be thinking of "take battery bikini".
That is hilarious.
