Gotta be honest, beautiful sounding as it is if I stumbled across that it's just creepy enough that my fascination would be outweighed by the desire to start running before they picked a blood sacrifice for Cthulhu
Also, if the Olympics are ever held in Italy, this HAS to be part of the opening or closing ceremonies. I can see it already...a parade singing a capella, as facsimiles of Da Vinci's designs traverse the arena, and performers recreate the paintings of the Renaissance.
Olympics have been in Italy: 1956 Winter (Cortina d'Ampezzo), 1960 Summer (Rome), 2006 Winter (Torino). They will be in Italy again in the 2026 Winter Olympics (Milano Cortina). (They would have been in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the 1944 Winter Olympics, but those were cancelled due to WWII.)

Say what you will about the Civilization series, they get good compositions out of Christopher Tin. For those who don't know, the lyrics come from a poem by Leonardo da Vinci about flight. I can't imagine a more appropriate theme for this game, which is about the development of civilizations over great periods of time.
Lyrics by Leonardo da Vinci: "Sogno di volare (The Dream Of Flight)" "Once You Have Taken Flight You’ll Decide Gaze Towards The Sky You’ll Know That That Is Where Your Heart Will Feel At Home Once You Have Taken Flight You’ll Decide Gaze Towards The Sky You’ll Know That That Is Where Your Heart Will Feel At Home The First Great Bird Will Take Flight Toward The Sun Sweeping Over The Great Mount Ceceri Filling The Universe With Wonder And Glory Once You Have Taken Flight You’ll Decide Gaze Towards The Sky You’ll Know That That Is Where Your Heart Will Feel At Home Mankind Will Be Lifted By His Own Creation Just Like Birds Into The Sky Oooh Oooh Filling The Universe With Wonder And Glory Once You Have Taken Flight You’ll Decide Gaze Towards The Sky You’ll Know That That Is Where Your Heart Will Feel At Home Glory! Hey, I know you are just part of it. But for that I'd like to say thank you. This song touches my heart and ignites my soul, everytime. Really, thank you.
This song is one of the best songs I have ever heard. This is just a magical experience listening to this and it gives me goosebumps every single time I listen. This song even gets better the louder it gets... haha! Peter Hollens, shout-out for making me a true fan of your work. You are amazing!
Imagine this empty pile they're singing on is just next to a city of 18 and the citizens file a complain against violations of noise levels... Also, what wonder do I have to built to get this "great musicans" unit?
@@LauchTV2311 It's an inside joke for people that play the game Civilization (of which this video's song is the theme for - like it says in the title).

I totally agree! This song is so beautiful and powerful. It transcends language and culture. 😍 I’m also a big fan of Christopher Tin. He’s a genius composer. 🙌
@@illman8876 Baba Yetu is a very beautiful song, don't get me wrong, and I also love that one, but it's the Lord's prayer, whereas Sogno Di Volare is, in my opinion, more universal and aspirational. I find the message and tone of Sogno Di Volare to be a lot more inspiring.
Damn, this is overwhelmingly epic! Wonderful chorists and rich arrangement, once again you managed to turn Christopher Tin's pieces into acapella gold. Keep on slaying!
Maybe he was referring to Secondari's project, "I, Leonardo Da Vinci" where he wrote the exact same citation. Some believe that the quotes written by Da Vinci about dream of flying is merely fictional and the reason of people believing it was written by Da Vinci is because Secondari wrote those fictional quotes to his project. Who am i kidding, this world is full of mysteries :p
As an avid player of the Civilization since Civilization II .. ABSOLUTELY. UNEQUIVOCALLY, EPIC ON ALL POSSIBLE LEVELS. This captures everything that is Civilization, an incredibly astonishing feat you all have performed!! Absolutely loved this and had to save this video immediately!
"No, it's Iowa!", to quote the classic reply from the movie "Field of Dreams". Of course, wherever in the world this was filmed, Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt could build a city from Iowa close enough to there within a game of Civ 6.
Hilarious jokes and relevant commentary aside, I just have to say: this gives me shivers every time I listen to it. It's such a beautiful and awesome theme, but seeing a skilled choir perform it in action is breathtaking. Also, HEY! Culture is *my* tactic. Off and away with your angelic voices. - The cutaways where Peter is tenfold = the missionaries the AI sends en masse to convert my cities. Heathens!

Oh wow...I never played Civilization but heck, this sounds amazing!! Like a real top class choir with full orchestra. I got a big goosebumb while listening. Amazing job done everyone of them!!
I always tear up a little at "L'uomo verrà portato dalla sua creazione". Makes you feel proud at everything humanity has accomplished against all odds. One of the weakest species, with no tough hide or scales to protect itself, no sharp claws and teeth to attack. Just sheer willpower and creativity. And yet now we challenge even the very confines of our own planet, reaching places once thought only available to the gods. By our own creations we are risen. Gloria!
I don't think we are the weakest specie. If there was other intelligent species with other powers that would be true. But we have the two bests tools evolution has ever made, great brain and hands
I think of our own, good creations, such as children, as a glory to God since we were created in his image. Meaning that we share in his ability not only to create material items, but also other human beings. If anything, our creations should glorify God since he gives us this capability and gift.
I will say something in Italian just for this song: continuo ad ascoltarla e ad emozionarmi ogni volta. Grazie a Christopher Tin per quest’opera geniale!

I don't think it's misrepresenting the number. I think it is representing the iconic V from the name of the game itself: Civilization. Also, i think the developers used roman numerals for the same reason that i stated above. It fits in the name perfectly when it comes to the fifth and the sixth release of the game.

Grazie. Mi sono commosso. Complimenti per la ottima pronuncia dell'italiano.
Very cool. We recorded the theme for the original soundtrack and I am really impressed by this. ❤️Angel City Chorale
That's so cool!!
I would have loved to see Angel City Chorale sing this song on American's Got Talent.
Angel City's version is spectacular... saw it on UA-cam quite a while ago and fell in love with the beautiful melody. I, too, wish you could have sung it on America's Got Talent... you all deserved to at least get up into the top 10. Adore your chorus!
WTF, du was machst du denn hier?
Edit: LOL, es hat mich in 7 Monaten einfach niemand darauf hingewiesen, dass da ein „du“ zu viel ist
LMAO
@@LauchTV2311 It's an inside joke for people that play the game Civilization (of which this video's song is the theme for - like it says in the title).

Beautiful, but the V formation at the end should have been a VI formation :D
I feel like the V was to make up for him not covering Civ 5's theme. ;)
@@youtubingjaguar5082 There's still time for that.
@@Markwjansen I know. There still should have been a VI here though. ;)
Read my mind and beat me to it!
I think the formation is inspired by wild geese's V formation. Cuz this song is all about conquering the skies and stuff.
I'm pretty sure half people who listened to this launched their game after.
It's so damn good !
I hope so! :P
Ha, I launched it before

Well, i actually launched Civ5

Ever heard a song so beautiful that brings you tears even though you don't understand a single word of it? This is a good example. Big fan of Christopher Tin.
I totally agree! This song is so beautiful and powerful. It transcends language and culture. 😍 I’m also a big fan of Christopher Tin. He’s a genius composer. 🙌
And when you learn what the words mean it just raises it up to a whole new level. :)
All rise for the national anthem of humanity
Why are you not on top.
No, that's Baba Yetu
@@illman8876 Baba Yetu is a very beautiful song, don't get me wrong, and I also love that one, but it's the Lord's prayer, whereas Sogno Di Volare is, in my opinion, more universal and aspirational. I find the message and tone of Sogno Di Volare to be a lot more inspiring.
@@iurk0_streaming it is a beautiful song but Baba yetu has that Vibe of like, the unity of mankind
@@illman8876 Maybe, but its lyrics do have a traceable origin to a specific religion, which in my view, makes it divisive.
Wow... this was even more beautiful and amazing than usual... Well done to you and all the singers!!!!! Love from France 💛
Thank you so much Clady! That means a lot
I'm crying. There's no words I have for this. This is... just too beautiful
Damn, this is overwhelmingly epic! Wonderful chorists and rich arrangement, once again you managed to turn Christopher Tin's pieces into acapella gold. Keep on slaying!
Leonardo Da Vinci would be proud
Now that is a compliment!
Leonardo Da Vinci has nothing to do with this song; the citation was created by John H. Secondari
@@Ganliard wanst the lyrics written by da vinci?
Christopher Tin himself wrote the fact that the lyrics was based on Da Vinci's writing about dream of flight
Rest of the choir: *serious*
Peter Hollens: *feeling it*
Man, OSU seriously has incredible choirs. Zielke is one of my favorite directors I've ever worked with.
Thanks!
Imagine going to a field, hearing this theme song, seeing a choir. Is this heaven ?
"No, it's Iowa!", to quote the classic reply from the movie "Field of Dreams".
Of course, wherever in the world this was filmed, Abraham Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt could build a city from Iowa close enough to there within a game of Civ 6.
That patch of grass has achieved culture
Not long ago I heard the grass has started a grassroutes movement of distributing censored songs underground.
Danke!

Each time Peter Hollens covers a Civ song, the result bring tears to my eyes. It's beautiful ...

this Song realy helps me not giving up in this very hard lifetime today... Thank you so much Peter!!!
Oh wow...I never played Civilization but heck, this sounds amazing!! Like a real top class choir with full orchestra. I got a big goosebumb while listening. Amazing job done everyone of them!!
The best part is I was just playing this last night thinking about how great the theme was. This is awesome.
Exactly the kind of powerful performance to help me power through my Monday. Thank you for the music.

Gloria!
Best comment I've ever read, Gloria!
Opposable thumb and enhanced frontal lobe are enough but still yes, as humanity this song suits as anthem
Gloria!
Even now the epicness, the goosebumps, the feeling of energy surging, absolutely amazing!!!
Such a joy to listen to some superb voices. So uplifting Peter .xx
I will say something in Italian just for this song: continuo ad ascoltarla e ad emozionarmi ogni volta. Grazie a Christopher Tin per quest’opera geniale!
So, I wasn't crazy. The main menu's song is actually in Italian!
Christopher Tin’s interview about the message behind the song makes it that much more enthralling. Also, props to Leonardo da Vinci for lyrics.
well, 'italian' during the renaissance actually still kinda was (considered as) a form of '(neo-)latin'.

Was anyone else bothered by the team singing the Civilization VI theme making a big V at the end?
Well NOW I am
didn't have enough people to form the I
I don't think it's misrepresenting the number. I think it is representing the iconic V from the name of the game itself: Civilization.
Also, i think the developers used roman numerals for the same reason that i stated above. It fits in the name perfectly when it comes to the fifth and the sixth release of the game.
