i really appreciate your training, i am writing you from Colombia and i am really happy with the samurai engine repair engine, sorry my if my english is not pretty good, tank you i will repair my chevrolet samurai hard top engine model 96 with carburator here in Colombia, tank you very much.
Hey I just wanted to say thanks for this it helped me get the timing right. Was backfiring thru the carb just had to pull the distributor and rotate it 1 tooth over to get the timing right
Thanks for the helpful video, I am not able to find a tacometer, could you help me to find one, all I find is for small engines, I am not sure if they will work
Very good video, clear and well structured, clear diction, and appropriate emphasis where required. Only one thing - I could not easily locate the idle screw on the carbie, despite pausing the video, and trying to determine where it was on my Right Hand Drive Sierra (Australia). Found a slot head screw but not a Phillips head, and turning it made no difference. Again, great video, as are several others by you which I have seen.
John, Sorry I am not as familiar with the Right Hand drive Sierra as I am the Left and Drive Samurai. My understanding is they are basically the same. Only the badge and the Right Hand drive are different. That being said I think we can still help you. We have a full set of instructions on line that shows how to completely rebuild the carburetor. See link below. If you look at the picture in Tech Tip 32C you can see the idle speed screw. It is the phillips head screw that is just left of the upper end of the green punch. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting. www.lowrangeoffroad.com/instruction-sheets/samurai-instuctions/samurai-oem-hitachi-dfb306-carburetor-rebuild-kit.html
Thanks for viewing and commenting. I cannot see us doing a video on carb overhaul in the near future. It would probably take weeks to do. However, we have done full color step by step instructions that I am sure you will find helpful. Here is the link:www.lowrangeoffroad.com/instruction-sheets/samurai-instuctions/samurai-oem-hitachi-dfb306-carburetor-rebuild-kit.html We will add your other request to our "To-Do" list. Thanks again.
I noticed when you let the clutch out it started to make a noise like a bearing was possibly going out in the transmission? Mine is making that exact sound when I do that too, was wondering if this is normal or is something you guys addressed later with this vehicle? Thanks!
Suzuki says It is not necessary to disconnect and plug the vacuum hose. As long as your idle speed is correct you should be okay. However, if you want to disconnect and plug the vacuum, it would not hurt anything. Thanks for the comment.
I have a 1992 geo tracker and the ignition coil is different than the one you hook the tachometer up to. Can you show how to connect the tachometer to the '92 tracker coil? Thanks
Are you referring to the one in the fuel tank? If so that is on our list. We will either do a video of instructions with pictures. Which would you prefer?
We are sorry we did not meet your needs with this video. Perhaps we can do a video on how to check and set ignition timing on the fuel injected Samurai in the future.
It would be advisable to disconnect the vacuum advance as it eliminates any variance in ignition advance when setting base timing. At times a vacuum advance solenoid may be in poor condition and can add early or typically not enough total timing.
Gd day,, twice a year I tune-up my samurai w/ d power of internet it’s great for u guys around, no need to disconnect& plug d vac hose of distributor,, Cody is right!.. my G13 engine maintain its 15-16kms /Lit,, thanks guys!!
My Suzuki runs and is getting gas, but won't run around the block. What do you think could be causing the problem? It starts and idles but starts acting like it's not getting gas and dies, - if I try to drive it. I just had the carburetor rebuilt, by a professional carburetor shop. It ran great after that. I didn't drive it over the winter. When I tried to start it - it would not idle. I love my Suzuki Samurai's. I have another Suzuki Sidekick, - 89 model. Needs bearings. I will be ordering more things in the future from Low Range - as well as following you on the web. Thanks for the show.
+1234tric Sorry so slow in responding. Can you see the fuel level in the sight glass at the front of the carburetor. It should be close to the middle of that little round window. If it is below the window it could be that the fuel pump is not supplying enough fuel. Even if the fuel level is up at idle or even when the engine is not running, you may want to check fuel pressure with a pressure gauge at the carburetor fuel inlet. This inlet is on the driver side front of the carburetor. Hope his helps.
Thanks for that info. That helps. I got it home , after it died and wouldn't start - 4 mile away from home. It is running / idling, and has stalled, but started back up. I drove it back to my shop, in the back yard where I have parked it. I plain to pull the motor - shortly. If all else fails. I will put another carb on it. Once again thanks for the tip.
Yo tengo un suzuki sk 410 y los mecannicos ponen sellador de ampaquetadura en ambos lados y se filtra aceite por ciertos lugares, se debe poner a todoas las empaquetadoras siempre el sellador o no ?
This may sound crazy to you, but on the timing pulley, in front of the motor. What does each hash mark mean, and where is top dead center below 10 degrees?
+1234tric Each space is equal to 2° Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) or what is sometimes referred to as "Advanced". So 10° BTDC is 5 spaces away from 0°. Hope this helps.
hi Cody, Thnx for your video, may i ask you something. My 1.3 samurai engine is making the same weird noise as yours. Sounds like a bearing on the head or something. Your engine is making the same noise, do you know what this is.
My 1.6 swapped sami was doing the same thing and after scratching my head, I tried to think simple and realized the heat shield nuts on my header were rusted and rattling like crazy! Check that out before tearing down anything!
+1234tric I am assuming that you are referring the flywheel timing marks. Actually the white mark we made is on the 10° BTDC line. The marks made by Suzuki are a little misleading. The actual 10° line is below the "10" not above it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Leaving vacuum advance plugged in may or may not affect base timing. But, the best thing to do is unplug it just to be sure the vacuum advance feature of the distributor is disabled. If vacuum advance is affecting the timing while checking and adjusting the timing, you will not get an accurate reading or adjustment. Thanks for watching and commenting.
NOTE: I had issues with jumping on ALL tach meters due to meter / timing test wires too close to Engine Noise Supprressor / Capacitor Filter which is located (On MOST models) IN-LINE FREE-HANGING top area of firewall right above distributor. It looks grey with 3 wires approximately 1"x1/2"x1/4" with a resister & capacitor symbol on it. IF you move it too much, the ECM tries to compensate too much.
+Tom Montoya Good suggestion. We will add that to our "To Do" List. However, we do not have an EFI model in the shop right now. So it might be a while. But, thanks for the suggestion and for watching.
+lowrangeoffroad Hi, Firstly thank you for this video. I want to time my EFI G13BA Motor Samurai, I have managed to get it idling at about 800 warm (it was idling at around 1200 warm before and way over 2000 when first starting cold) simply by moving the distributor as shown in this demonstration, however as it is EFI is there still an Idle screw or does the computer work it out for itself? Is the procedure exactly the same for EFI but just minus adjusting a idle screw? It would be much appreciated if you could inform me of this, Although it would be great, I do not need a video, just some advice for now would help. Thanks alot!
How about now? Any EFI models to put a video together? I'm especially interested in knowing if the timing needs to be compensated for altitude like you did in the video; 1* for ever 2,000 feet of elevation change.
I have 1.3 suzuki samurai 1993. After putting ignition switch on I hear clicking noise at passenger side under dash (where ECU is) and nothing happens, starter doesnt activates. what can be a problem?
You forgot to disconnect the vacuum advance tube and plug it off. The timing is off still. Please check the print on the catalyst sticker at the bottom under tune up procedure and spec's. You have failed!!! But close.
Hi greetings , I am from Fiji 🇫🇯 islands 🏝. You guys in the USA including Tony from hwy83, are doing TDC at number 4, but I am doing it at number 1. It's much smoother idle, and the engine runs like a clock tiktiktik and saves fuel. Setting tdc at number 4 on a G13a Samurai is an horrible idea at the first place, and it will always give a rough idle and you guys will always try to use screwdriver to adjust the carbeurator idle screw and never find peace and happiness in your engines idle speed and smooth idle So go and give a shot give your g13a Tdc at number 1 piston and set your electronic distributors rotor above or slightly half inch before the number 1 plug tower on the distributor cap. Since the rotor rotates in a counterclockwise direction so upon cranking so about half inch away rotor positioning will also work but tdc at number 1 piston 😢and use the number 1 plug tower for detonation to occur to give you an instant start. You should have a 1/4 turn key, a tip start with no hesitation. When engine starts you can dial few mm advance or retard where you feel is the best idle running then tight that number 12mm bolt to secure the distributor Clockwise dial towards grill is retarding and opppsite twist towards firewall is advancing the distributor Good luck samurai owners. Hope my hints will help some folks save fuel and have the smoothest, pleasant idle ever on their G13a
Hi from Portugal. For me these series about suzuki rebuild are th best I can find on you tube.Congratulations to all of YOU.
I never understand timing briefly before this video. very well explained and demonstrated.
Excellent! Literally fixed my car with your help, you've earned a like and a sub :)

You the man Cody!!! Thank you, if you ever in FL.. free lunch!!!
I miss you guys being in provo.
Thanks, very helpful. I put a Samurai on tune with this video. Excellent video.
Thank you very much! This was a great video and now I can adjust the timing all by myself. Keep up the great videos! :)
Thanks for the helpful video, I am not able to find a tacometer, could you help me to find one, all I find is for small engines, I am not sure if they will work

Thanks for viewing and commenting. I cannot see us doing a video on carb overhaul in the near future. It would probably take weeks to do. I live up in vail Colorado about 7500 feet above sea level what should I do with the degrees
You add 1 degree for every 2000 feet above sea level. So you would be at 13.75 degrees advance.
Also, I lived in vail for a while as well. I love that place.

What about disconnecting and plugging the vacuum advance hose?
thanks for uploading this video it was very helpful, I just have a question is that the canister on the passenger side against the fire wall??
Yes, it is.
Which would you prefer?
i went through all your videos very excellent detailing
What if I got it in time but if I drop it lower than 1,300 rpm it stalls? I checked all vacuum hose and they are all good, also mixture screw is good
We are sorry we did not meet your needs with this video. Perhaps we can do a video on how to check and set ignition timing on the fuel injected Samurai in the future.
Please Help. How do I find TDC when I don't have nothing on my fly wheel?
Good video, must the vacuum advance not be disconnected when setting the timing on a dynamic method?
It would be advisable to disconnect the vacuum advance as it eliminates any variance in ignition advance when setting base timing. At times a vacuum advance solenoid may be in poor condition and can add early or typically not enough total timing.

Will this procedure work on a 1.6 8v on propane? RPM the same, ect...? Thanks for the great info.
10° btdc with vacuum advance? is that correct? or should I remove the vacuum advance hose while performing the adjustment of distributor? thanks
Remove the vacuum advance when timing
What are those sparks?
Does the metro Geo have a tapping noise ,that's normal w that type motor.?
Perfect how to video. Thanks.
I understand everything except the timing light part of it. Is it supposed to flash when the white mark on the flywheel is in the middle of the hole?
Yes

Merci pour votre vidéo vous expliqué bien.
Will this also work for an 82sj410
Question. I see 10 degrees, but you marked it below what I would consider 10 degree mark. What's up with that?

how do you test that on a fuel injected samurai? can you do a video on the 1992 samurai
Hi I have a daihatsu Japanese mini truck that I can't get started due to not in time. It's a 2cyl 2stroke how would I get this in time? Thanks
Does the vacuum advance have to be unplugged when adjusting the timing?

God bless you thank very much for you help us God help you
Very useful - thank you
Great video, but what about for an EFI ? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the suggestion! We will do our best to get this done.
why you didnt unplug vacuum advancer line?
I was going to ask the same thing.
thank you Cody, clear cut info.
Excellent information .👍
Excellent video
Awesome! Thanks for a great video
I have 1.3 suzuki samurai 1993. After putting ignition switch on I hear clicking noise at passenger side under dash (where ECU is) and nothing happens, starter doesnt activates. what can be a problem?
What was the reason for installing the ignition switch. Did it have this problem before installing the switch?
Great video thanks!
